'It is Finished!'

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 21st

I have finished the work which You have given Me to do —John 17:4

The death of Jesus Christ is the fulfillment in history of the very mind and
intent of God. There is no place for seeing Jesus Christ as a martyr. His death
was not something that happened to Him— something that might have been
prevented. His death was the very reason He came.

Never build your case for forgiveness on the idea that God is our Father and He
will forgive us because He loves us. That contradicts the revealed truth of God
in Jesus Christ. It makes the Cross unnecessary, and the redemption "much ado
about nothing." God forgives sin only because of the death of Christ. God could
forgive people in no other way than by the death of His Son, and Jesus is
exalted as Savior because of His death. "We see Jesus . . . for the suffering of
death crowned with glory and honor . . ." (Hebrews 2:9). The greatest note of
triumph ever sounded in the ears of a startled universe was that sounded on the
Cross of Christ— "It is finished!" (John 19:30). That is the final word in the
redemption of humankind.

Anything that lessens or completely obliterates the holiness of God, through a
false view of His love, contradicts the truth of God as revealed by Jesus
Christ. Never allow yourself to believe that Jesus Christ stands with us, and
against God, out of pity and compassion, or that He became a curse for us out of
sympathy for us. Jesus Christ became a curse for us by divine decree. Our part
in realizing the tremendous meaning of His curse is the conviction of sin.
Conviction is given to us as a gift of shame and repentance; it is the great
mercy of God. Jesus Christ hates the sin in people, and Calvary is the measure
of His hatred.

“I go to prepare a place for you,” Jesus told His disciples (John 14:2). We all
share the desire—really a deep-down yearning—to be in that glorious home
forever. It is a place of indescribable bliss. And the supreme blessing will be
the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself! —Vernon C. Grounds

Evening... References:-->Job 23:3
O that I knew where I might find Him! In Job's uttermost extremity he cried
after the Lord. The longing desire of an afflicted child of God is once more to
see his Father's face. His first prayer is not "O that I might be healed of the
disease which now festers in every part of my body!" nor even "O that I might
see my children restored from the jaws of the grave, and my property once more
brought from the hand of the spoiler!" but the first and uppermost cry is, "O
that I knew where I might find HIM, who is my God! that I might come even to His
seat!" God's children run home when the storm comes on. It is the heaven-born
instinct of a gracious soul to seek shelter from all ills beneath the wings of
Jehovah. "He that hath made his refuge God," might serve as the title of a true
believer. A hypocrite, when afflicted by God, resents the infliction, and, like
a slave, would run from the Master who has scourged him; but not so the true
heir of heaven, he kisses the hand which smote him, and seeks shelter from the
rod in the bosom of the God who frowned upon him. Job's desire to commune with
God was intensified by the failure of all other sources of consolation. The
patriarch turned away from his sorry friends, and looked up to the celestial
throne, just as a traveller turns from his empty skin bottle, and betakes
himself with all speed to the well. He bids farewell to earth-born hopes, and
cries, "O that I knew where I might find my God!" Nothing teaches us so much the
preciousness of the Creator, as when we learn the emptiness of all besides.
Turning away with bitter scorn from earth's hives, where we find no honey, but
many sharp stings, we rejoice in Him whose faithful word is sweeter than honey
or the honeycomb. In every trouble we should first seek to realize God's
presence with us. Only let us enjoy His smile, and we can bear our daily cross
with a willing heart for His dear sake.November 20

Morning... References:-->Lamentations 3:58
0 Lord, Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul. Observe how positively the
prophet speaks. He doth not say, "I hope, I trust, I sometimes think, that God
hath pleaded the causes of my soul"; but he speaks of it as a matter of fact not
to be disputed. "Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul." Let us, by the aid of
the gracious Comforter, shake off those doubts and fears which so much mar our
peace and comfort. Be this our prayer, that we may have done with the harsh
croaking voice of surmise and suspicion, and may be able to speak with the
clear, melodious voice of full assurance. Notice how gratefully the prophet
speaks, ascribing all the glory to God alone! You perceive there is not a word
concerning himself or his own pleadings. He doth not ascribe his deliverance in
any measure to any man, much less to his own merit; but it is "thou"-"O Lord,
Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; Thou hast redeemed my life." A grateful
spirit should ever be cultivated by the Christian; and especially after
deliverances we should prepare a song for our God. Earth should be a temple
filled with the songs of grateful saints, and every day should be a censor
smoking with the sweet incense of thanksgiving. How joyful Jeremiah seems to be
while he records the Lord's mercy. How triumphantly he lifts up the strain! He
has been in the low dungeon, and is even now no other than the weeping prophet;
and yet in the very book which is called "Lamentations," clear as the song of
Miriam when she dashed her fingers against the tabor, shrill as the note of
Deborah when she met Barak with shouts of victory, we hear the voice of Jeremy
going up to heaven-"Thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed
my life." O children of God, seek after a vital experience of the Lord's
lovingkindness, and when you have it, speak positively of it; sing gratefully;
shout triumphantly. Exodus 32:1-5(1) Now when the people saw that Moses
delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron,
and said to him, "Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this
Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what
has become of him." (2) And Aaron said to them, "Break off the golden earrings
which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring
them to me." (3) So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in
their ears, and brought them to Aaron. (4) And he received the gold from their
hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf. Then
they said, "This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of
Egypt!" (5) So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a
proclamation and said, "Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD."
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
As this episode began, the people were not really asking for a change of gods
but rather a new human leader. Moses had borne much of the brunt of Israel's
discontent, and now he had disappeared! In their impatience, they wanted to
entrust their leadership to one who could make a god. But this highly offended
the true God and Moses! To them the golden calf was an attempt to redefine God's
nature and control Him according to their desires.
In like manner, the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant churches say the
ornaments, icons, crucifixes, Madonna statues, and Christmas trees are only to
keep God in mind. But this is the same principle involved in Exodus 32! It is
not long before people associate the image with God.
In the Golden Calf episode, the first and second commandments were directly
broken. Aaron proclaimed it "a feast to the LORD." The churches say, "These
things are dedicated to worshipping God." The true God says in verses 7-8 that
they had "corrupted themselves . . . and worshipped it." This sounds like
today's Christmas observance. The people corrupted themselves by redefining
God's nature and His way of worship according to their desires and ends.

The Forgiveness of God

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 20th

In Him we have . . . the forgiveness of sins . . . —Ephesians 1:7

Beware of the pleasant view of the fatherhood of God: God is so kind and loving
that of course He will forgive us. That thought, based solely on emotion, cannot
be found anywhere in the New Testament. The only basis on which God can forgive
us is the tremendous tragedy of the Cross of Christ. To base our forgiveness on
any other ground is unconscious blasphemy. The only ground on which God can
forgive our sin and reinstate us to His favor is through the Cross of Christ.
There is no other way! Forgiveness, which is so easy for us to accept, cost the
agony at Calvary. We should never take the forgiveness of sin, the gift of the
Holy Spirit, and our sanctification in simple faith, and then forget the
enormous cost to God that made all of this ours.

Forgiveness is the divine miracle of grace. The cost to God was the Cross of
Christ. To forgive sin, while remaining a holy God, this price had to be paid.
Never accept a view of the fatherhood of God if it blots out the atonement. The
revealed truth of God is that without the atonement He cannot forgive— He would
contradict His nature if He did. The only way we can be forgiven is by being
brought back to God through the atonement of the Cross. God’s forgiveness is
possible only in the supernatural realm.

Compared with the miracle of the forgiveness of sin, the experience of
sanctification is small. Sanctification is simply the wonderful expression or
evidence of the forgiveness of sins in a human life. But the thing that awakens
the deepest fountain of gratitude in a human being is that God has forgiven his
sin. Paul never got away from this. Once you realize all that it cost God to
forgive you, you will be held as in a vise, constrained by the love of God.

The lesson for followers of Christ is clear. When fellow Christians stumble and
fall, we need to follow the example of these ballplayers. Reach out. Lift them

Evening... References:-->Psalm 93:2
Thou art from everlasting. Christ is EVERLASTING. Of Him we may sing with David,
"Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever." Rejoice, believer, in Jesus Christ,
the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever. Jesus always was. The Babe born in
Bethlehem was united to the Word, which was in the beginning, by whom all things
were made. The title by which Christ revealed Himself to John in Patmos was,
"Him which is, and which was, and which is to come." If He were not God from
everlasting, we could not so devoutly love Him; we could not feel that He had
any share in the eternal love which is the fountain of all covenant blessings;
but since He was from all eternity with the Father, we trace the stream of
divine love to Himself equally with His Father and the blessed Spirit. As our
Lord always was, so also He is for evermore. Jesus is not dead; "He ever liveth
to make intercession for us." Resort to Him in all your times of need, for He is
waiting to bless you still. Moreover, Jesus our Lord ever shall be. If God
should spare your life to fulfil your full day of threescore years and ten, you
will find that His cleansing fountain is still opened, and His precious blood
has not lost its power; you shall find that the Priest who filled the healing
fount with His own blood, lives to purge you from all iniquity. When only your
last battle remains to be fought, you shall find that the hand of your
conquering Captain has not grown feeble-the living Saviour shall cheer the dying
saint. When you enter heaven you shall find Him there bearing the dew of His
youth; and through eternity the Lord Jesus shall still remain the perennial
spring of joy, and life, and glory to His people. Living waters may you draw
from this sacred well! Jesus always was, He always is, He always shall be. He is
eternal in all His attributes, in all His offices, in all His might, and
willingness to bless, comfort, guard, and crown His chosen people.November 19

Morning... References:-->Titus 3:9
Avoid foolish questions. Our days are few, and are far better spent in doing
good, than in disputing over matters which are, at best, of minor importance.
The old schoolmen did a world of mischief by their incessant discussion of
subjects of no practical importance; and our Churches suffer much from petty
wars over abstruse points and unimportant questions. After everything has been
said that can be said, neither party is any the wiser, and therefore the
discussion no more promotes knowledge than love, and it is foolish to sow in so
barren a field. Questions upon points wherein Scripture is silent; upon
mysteries which belong to God alone; upon prophecies of doubtful interpretation;
and upon mere modes of observing human ceremonials, are all foolish, and wise
men avoid them. Our business is neither to ask nor answer foolish questions, but
to avoid them altogether; and if we observe the apostle's precept (Titus 3:8) to
be careful to maintain good works, we shall find ourselves far too much occupied
with profitable business to take muc h interest in unworthy, contentious, and
needless strivings. There are, however, some questions which are the reverse of
foolish, which we must not avoid, but fairly and honestly meet, such as these:
Do I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Am I renewed in the spirit of my mind? Am
I walking not after the flesh, but after the Spirit? Am I growing in grace? Does
my conversation adorn the doctrine of God my Saviour? Am I looking for the
coming of the Lord, and watching as a servant should do who expects his master?
What more can I do for Jesus? Such enquiries as these urgently demand our
attention; and if we have been at all given to cavilling, let us now turn our
critical abilities to a service so much more profitable. Let us be peace-makers,
and endeavour to lead others both by our precept and example, to "avoid foolish
questions." Galatians 3:19(19) What purpose then does the law serve? It was
added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise
was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
It must be understood that Paul uses the terms "law" and "covenant"
interchangeably, and one must use the context determine whether he is talking
about a single statute, a body of laws, a covenant/agreement, or the Penteteuch.
Even in the Old Testament, "law" and "covenant" were often used interchangeably.
For example, in II Chronicles 6:11, Solomon says, "And in it [the Temple] have I
put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that He made with the children
of Israel." But just a chapter earlier it is recorded, "There was nothing in the
ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb, when the LORD made a
covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt" (II
Chronicles 5:10). Solomon refers to the Ten Commandments on the two tablets of
stone as being "the covenant."
Also consider how Paul uses the term "law" later in the book of Galatians:
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is
written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a
freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of
the freewoman was by promise. (Galatians 4:21-23)
The births of Isaac and Ishmael are recorded in Genesis chapters 16 and 21,
hundreds of years before the Old Covenant was given. Yet Paul refers to that
portion of scripture as "the law"! Obviously, in this example Paul uses "law" to
mean the entire Pentateuch or Torah (the first five books of the Bible), not
just the commandments. In Galatians 4:24, he specifically mentions the Old and
New Covenants.
The end of Galatians 3:19, as well as verse 20, show that this was not just
instruction to a group of people by a superior—the reference to a mediator shows
that there was an agreement being discussed. If a king makes a law, there is no
need for a process of mediation because the matter it is not open for discussion
with the people. A mediator is only necessary when both parties have to agree to
something, which clearly indicates a covenant rather than just a decree or law.
The Old Covenant was in addition to the one that God made with Abraham ("it was
added"). It was not the first time that God's law had been taught, though; the
Bible says specifically that Abraham kept God's commandments (Genesis 26:5). It
shows Abraham and Jacob both tithing. It shows Abel and Noah already having an
understanding of clean and unclean animals. The Sabbath harkens back to
Creation, and was given to Israel again after they left Egypt but before the Old
Covenant was proposed (Exodus 16). Reading through Genesis and Exodus, it is
very clear that there was a codified set of rules—laws—long before they were
officially recorded at Mt. Sinai.
The Old Covenant was added because of transgression—sin. It was added, not to
provide a means of justification, but to demonstrate to Israel what was right
and wrong, because their "moral compass" had been badly damaged through their
experiences in Egypt. The children of Israel sojourned in Egypt for 400 years,
and during that time they lost the knowledge of God's way. They forgot His
instructions to such a degree that God had to teach them all over again the way
of life that was pleasing to Him. They had been so immersed in the pagan
Egyptian culture that all of these laws, statutes, judgments, instructions,
etc., were completely new to them. God added the Old Covenant to the one He made
with Abraham as a sort of "booster shot"—Israel was so off track that God had to
realign them with His ways by means of this temporary covenant, which would be
in effect until Christ came. After Christ came, the Holy Spirit of God was
available to those whom God called and made this New Covenant available to, and
thus God was able to write His laws—still in existence and effect!—into the
hearts of His chosen people (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10; 10:16).
It is evident that the Old Covenant has served its purpose, and now it is
obsolete, replaced by an infinitely better covenant (Hebrews 8:6-10, 13). But it
is also evident that even though the covenant—the agreement—is no longer in
effect, that does not mean God's law has become obsolete. The law and the
covenant, in practice, describe two different things. The law is the codified
standard of conduct God gave to His people; the covenant was the agreement in
which Israel agreed to abide by God's laws. The abolition of the agreement,
though, does not abolish the standard of conduct! The New Testament abounds with
examples of God's law still being in effect (Matthew 19:17; 23:23; John
14:15,21; 15:10; Acts 21:24; 24:14; 26:19-20; 28:23; Romans 3:31; 6:1-2,15;
7:12,22,25; 8:7; I Corinthians 7:19; Ephesians 5:5; I Timothy 1:8-11; II Timothy
2:5; Titus 1:16; 2:11-14; Hebrews 8:10; James 1:22-25; 2:8-12; 2:14-26; I John
2:3-6; 3:22-24; 5:2-3; II John 1:6; Revelation 12:17; 14:12; 22:14).
Christ Himself stated clearly that He did not come to destroy the law, but to
show how to fulfill it—keep it in its entirety (Matthew 5:17-20). He then goes
on to demonstrate the intent, or spirit, behind some of the laws. James
admonishes each to "fulfill the royal law of liberty"—and there is no hint that
he means we should individually "do away" with it!
The Old Covenant was "ordained" by angels (Acts 7:53; Hebrews 2:2; Acts 7:38;
Psalm 68:17; I Corinthians 10:4). "Ordained," diatageis (NT:1299), usually means
to arrange; to dispose in order; and is commonly used with reference to the
marshalling of an army. A similar word, diatagas (NT:1296), is used in Acts
7:53, where it is translated "disposition." It properly means the "constituting"
or "arranging" of an army; disposing it into ranks and proper divisions. Hence,
it has been supposed to mean that the Covenant was given "amidst" the various
ranks of angels, being present to witness its transmission.
Deuteronomy 33:2 also shows God with His "holy myriads"—literally "ten thousands
of holiness." God was attended by a vast army of intelligent beings, witnessing
the ratifying of the Old Covenant with Israel and helping with prescribing,
ordering, and arranging the covenant.
The covenant was "in the hand" or "under the control" of a Mediator, one who
intervenes between two parties, either as an interpreter, intercessor, or
reconciler. In the New Testament, in all the places where it occurs, it is
applied to Jesus Christ, the great Mediator between God and man (I Timothy 2:5;
Hebrews 8:6; 9:15; 12:24).

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 19th

When He has come, He will convict the world of sin . . . —John 16:8

Very few of us know anything about conviction of sin. We know the experience of
being disturbed because we have done wrong things. But conviction of sin by the
Holy Spirit blots out every relationship on earth and makes us aware of only
one— "Against You, You only, have I sinned . . ." (Psalm 51:4). When a person is
convicted of sin in this way, he knows with every bit of his conscience that God
would not dare to forgive him. If God did forgive him, then this person would
have a stronger sense of justice than God. God does forgive, but it cost the
breaking of His heart with grief in the death of Christ to enable Him to do so.
The great miracle of the grace of God is that He forgives sin, and it is the
death of Jesus Christ alone that enables the divine nature to forgive and to
remain true to itself in doing so. It is shallow nonsense to say that God
forgives us because He is love. Once we have been convicted of sin, we will
never say this again. The love of God means Calvary— nothing less! The love of
God is spelled out on the Cross and nowhere else. The only basis for which God
can forgive me is the Cross of Christ. It is there that His conscience is
satisfied.

Forgiveness doesn’t merely mean that I am saved from hell and have been made
ready for heaven (no one would accept forgiveness on that level). Forgiveness
means that I am forgiven into a newly created relationship which identifies me
with God in Christ. The miracle of redemption is that God turns me, the unholy
one, into the standard of Himself, the Holy One. He does this by putting into me
a new nature, the nature of Jesus Christ.

A rare and delicious fruit may bring a premium price in the marketplace, but
Christlike character is of far greater worth. As we confess all known sin and
yield to God’s indwelling Spirit, our lives will be transformed to the likeness
of Christ (1 John 1:9; Eph. 5:18). This spiritual fruit will fill our lives with
joy, bless those around us, and last into eternity. —Dennis Fisher

Think not alone of outward form;
Its beauty will depart;
But cultivate the Spirit’s fruits
That grow within the heart. —D. De Haan

Fruitfulness for Christ depends on fellowship with Christ.

Evening... References:-->Ecclesiastes 10:9
He that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. Oppressors may get their will
of poor and needy men as easily as they can split logs of wood, but they had
better mind, for it is a dangerous business, and a splinter from a tree has
often killed the woodman. Jesus is persecuted in every injured saint, and He is
mighty to avenge His beloved ones. Success in treading down the poor and needy
is a thing to be trembled at: if there be no danger to persecutors here there
will be great danger hereafter. To cleave wood is a common every-day business,
and yet it has its dangers; so then, reader, there are dangers connected with
your calling and daily life which it will be well for you to be aware of. We
refer not to hazards by flood and field, or by disease and sudden death, but to
perils of a spiritual sort. Your occupation may be as humble as log splitting,
and yet the devil can tempt you in it. You may be a domestic servant, a farm
labourer, or a mechanic, and you may be greatly screened from temptations to the
grosser vices, and yet some secret sin may do you damage. Those who dwell at
home, and mingle not with the rough world, may yet be endangered by their very
seclusion. Nowhere is he safe who thinks himself so. Pride may enter a poor
man's heart; avarice may reign in a cottager's bosom; uncleanness may venture
into the quietest home; and anger, and envy, and malice may insinuate themselves
into the most rural abode. Even in speaking a few words to a servant we may sin;
a little purchase at a shop may be the first link in a chain of temptations; the
mere looking out of a window may be the beginning of evil. O Lord, how exposed
we are! How shall we be secured! To keep ourselves is work too hard for us: only
Thou Thyself art able to preserve us in such a world of evils. Spread Thy wings
over us, and we, like little chickens, will cower down beneath Thee, and feel
ourselves safe!November 18

Morning... References:-->Song of Solomon 4:12
A spring shut up, a fountain sealed. In this metaphor, which has reference to
the inner life of a believer, we have very plainly the idea of secrecy. It is a
spring shut up: just as there were springs in the East, over which an edifice
was built, so that none could reach them save those who knew the secret
entrance; so is the heart of a believer when it is renewed by grace: there is a
mysterious life within which no human skill can touch. It is a secret which no
other man knoweth; nay, which the very man who is the possessor of it cannot
tell to his neighbour. The text includes not only secrecy, but separation. It is
not the common spring, of which every passer-by may drink, it is one kept and
preserved from all others; it is a fountain bearing a particular mark-a king's
royal seal, so that all can perceive that it is not a common fountain, but a
fountain owned by a proprietor, and placed specially by itself alone. So is it
with the spiritual life. The chosen of God were separated in the eternal decree;
they were separated by God in the day of r edemption; and they are separated by
the possession of a life which others have not; and it is impossible for them to
feel at home with the world, or to delight in its pleasures. There is also the
idea of sacredness. The spring shut up is preserved for the use of some special
person: and such is the Christian's heart. It is a spring kept for Jesus. Every
Christian should feel that he has God's seal upon him-and he should be able to
say with Paul, "From henceforth let no man trouble me, for I bear in my body the
marks of the Lord Jesus." Another idea is prominent-it is that of security. Oh!
how sure and safe is the inner life of the believer! If all the powers of earth
and hell could combine against it, that immortal principle must still exist, for
He who gave it pledged His life for its preservation. And who "is He that shall
harm you," when God is your protector?

Leviticus 18:26-28(26) You shall therefore keep My statutes and My
judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your
own nation or any stranger who dwells among you (27) (for all these abominations
the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is
defiled), (28) lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it
vomited out the nations that were before you.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
Because of man's lawlessness, this law of the universe has too often gone into
effect. As a law of an impartial God, it will soon descend upon the nations of
Israel in the form of "a nation of fierce countenance" (Deuteronomy 28:49-50).
It is only a matter of time.
When a nation descends into perversions like homosexuality, its decline
accelerates, its fibers weaken, and it becomes ripe for disaster, either natural
or political/military. If the leadership of a nation participates in these
perversions, the immorality spreads like a cancer among the people, accelerating
the collapse. The leaders, already perverted personally, make immoral and unwise
decisions regarding the nation's direction and conditions grow worse (Romans
1:26-32; II Timothy 3:13).
Knowing the nation's destruction is so near, Christians have a responsibility to
"sigh and cry over all the abominations" (Ezekiel 9:4), preparing for the time
when we will rule with Christ in a just and holy government (Revelation 5:10; I
Peter 2:9; I Corinthians 6:2-3). Fortunately, God has made provision for
homosexuals to repent, maybe not now but in the resurrection, if their minds
have not been totally perverted (II Peter 3:9; I Timothy 2:4; 4:2; Hebrews
10:26-31).

Winning into Freedom

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 18th

If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed —John 8:36

If there is even a trace of individual self-satisfaction left in us, it always
says, "I can’t surrender," or "I can’t be free." But the spiritual part of our
being never says "I can’t"; it simply soaks up everything around it. Our spirit
hungers for more and more. It is the way we are built. We are designed with a
great capacity for God, but sin, our own individuality, and wrong thinking keep
us from getting to Him. God delivers us from sin— we have to deliver ourselves
from our individuality. This means offering our natural life to God and
sacrificing it to Him, so He may transform it into spiritual life through our
obedience.

God pays no attention to our natural individuality in the development of our
spiritual life. His plan runs right through our natural life. We must see to it
that we aid and assist God, and not stand against Him by saying, "I can’t do
that." God will not discipline us; we must discipline ourselves. God will not
bring our "arguments . . . and every thought into captivity to the obedience of
Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5)— we have to do it. Don’t say, "Oh, Lord, I suffer
from wandering thoughts." Don’t suffer from wandering thoughts. Stop listening
to the tyranny of your individual natural life and win freedom into the
spiritual life.

"If the Son makes you free . . . ." Do not substitute Savior for Son in this
passage. The Savior has set us free from sin, but this is the freedom that comes
from being set free from myself by the Son. It is what Paul meant in Galatians
2:20 when he said, "I have been crucified with Christ . . . ." His
individuality had been broken and his spirit had been united with his Lord; not
just merged into Him, but made one with Him. ". . . you shall be free indeed"—
free to the very core of your being; free from the inside to the outside. We
tend to rely on our own energy, instead of being energized by the power that
comes from identification with Jesus.

After Adam and Eve sinned, God continued working in and with mud, sending His
Son Jesus to die for humanity and then regenerating those who receive Him so
that we can enjoy fellowship with Him. In gratitude, let’s use our hands to do

Evening... References: -->Isaiah 33:17
Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty. The more you know about Christ the
less will you be satisfied with superficial views of Him; and the more deeply
you study His transactions in the eternal covenant, His engagements on your
behalf as the eternal Surety, and the fulness of His grace which shines in all
His offices, the more truly will you see the King in His beauty. Be much in such
outlooks. Long more and more to see Jesus. Meditation and contemplation are
often like windows of agate, and gates of carbuncle, through which we behold the
Redeemer. Meditation puts the telescope to the eye, and enables us to see Jesus
after a better sort than we could have seen Him if we had lived in the days of
His flesh. Would that our conversation were more in heaven, and that we were
more taken up with the person, the work, the beauty of our incarnate Lord. More
meditation, and the beauty of the King would flash upon us with more
resplendence. Beloved, it is very probable that we shall have such a sight of
our glorious King as we never had before, when we come to die. Many saints in
dying have looked up from amidst the stormy waters, and have seen Jesus walking
on the waves of the sea, and heard Him say, "It is I, be not afraid." Ah, yes!
when the tenement begins to shake, and the clay falls away, we see Christ
through the rifts, and between the rafters the sunlight of heaven comes
streaming in. But if we want to see face to face the "King in His beauty" we
must go to heaven for the sight, or the King must come here in person. O that He
would come on the wings of the wind! He is our Husband, and we are widowed by
His absence; He is our Brother dear and fair, and we are lonely without Him.
Thick veils and clouds hang between our souls and their true life: when shall
the day break and the shadows flee away? Oh, long-expected day, begin! November

Morning... References:-->Romans 11:36
To whom be glory for ever. Amen "To whom be glory for ever." This should be the
single desire of the Christian. All other wishes must be subservient and
tributary to this one. The Christian may wish for prosperity in his business,
but only so far as it may help him to promote this-"To Him be glory for ever."
He may desire to attain more gifts and more graces, but it should only be that
"To Him may be glory for ever." You are not acting as you ought to do when you
are moved by any other motive than a single eye to your Lord's glory. As a
Christian, you are "of God, and through God," then live "to God." Let nothing
ever set your heart beating so mightily as love to Him. Let this ambition fire
your soul; be this the foundation of every enterprise upon which you enter, and
this your sustaining motive whenever your zeal would grow chill; make God your
only object. Depend upon it, where self begins sorrow begins; but if God be my
supreme delight and only object, "To me 'tis equal whether love ordain
My life or death-appoint me ease or pain." Let your desire for God's glory be a
growing desire. You blessed Him in your youth, do not be content with such
praises as you gave Him then. Has God prospered you in business? Give Him more
as He has given you more. Has God given you experience? Praise Him by stronger
faith than you exercised at first. Does your knowledge grow? Then sing more
sweetly. Do you enjoy happier times than you once had? Have you been restored
from sickness, and has your sorrow been turned into peace and joy? Then give Him
more music; put more coals and more sweet frankincense into the censer of your
praise. Practically in your life give Him honour, putting the "Amen" to this
doxology to your great and gracious Lord, by your own individual service and
increasing holiness.

(7) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there
will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.Verse 7 presents a challenging
proposition regarding prophecy and God's active involvement in the governance of
His creation. Jesus can say this only if God will use His powers purposely to
increase the number and intensity of these plagues in a variety of places, even
where they are not normally experienced. No study has ever shown that these
things increase or decrease according to uniform law, especially in widely
divergent places. Jesus intimates that they will increase unusually and rather
suddenly.
Psalm 147:15-20 shows God actively exercises His sovereignty daily in good times
and bad. His involvement is not limited to the big disasters we call "acts of
God," though they are certainly included:
He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives snow
like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; He casts out His hail like morsels;
who can stand before His cold? He sends out His word and melts them; He causes
His wind to blow, and the waters flow. He declares His word to Jacob, His
statutes and His judgments to Israel. He has not dealt thus with any nation; and
as for His judgments, they have not known them. Praise the LORD.
Regarding "acts of God," Amos 4:6-9, 13 provides arresting insight into why God
uses them to intervene in the affairs of men:
"Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities. And lack of bread in all
your places; 'Yet you have not returned to Me,'" says the LORD. "I also withheld
rain from you, when there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain
on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, and
where it did not rain the part withered. So two or three cities wandered to
another city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not
returned to Me," says the LORD. "I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your
gardens increased, your vineyards, your fig trees, and your olive trees, the
locust devoured them; yet you have not returned to Me," says the LORD . . . .
For behold, He who forms mountains, and creates the wind, who declares to man
what his thought is, and makes the morning darkness, who treads the high places
of the earth—the LORD God of hosts is His name.
Is God involved? Certainly! He does these things to grab people's attention and
turn them back to Him!

The Eternal Goal

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 17th

By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing . . . I
will bless you . . . —Genesis 22:16-17

Abraham, at this point, has reached where he is in touch with the very nature of
God. He now understands the reality of God.

My goal is God Himself . . .
At any cost, dear Lord, by any road.

"At any cost . . . by any road" means submitting to God’s way of bringing us to
the goal.

There is no possibility of questioning God when He speaks, if He speaks to His
own nature in me. Prompt obedience is the only result. When Jesus says, "Come,"
I simply come; when He says, "Let go," I let go; when He says, "Trust God in
this matter," I trust. This work of obedience is the evidence that the nature of
God is in me.

God’s revelation of Himself to me is influenced by my character, not by God’s
character.

’Tis because I am ordinary,
Thy ways so often look ordinary to me.

It is through the discipline of obedience that I get to the place where Abraham
was and I see who God is. God will never be real to me until I come face to face
with Him in Jesus Christ. Then I will know and can boldly proclaim, "In all the
world, my God, there is none but Thee, there is none but Thee."

The promises of God are of no value to us until, through obedience, we come to
understand the nature of God. We may read some things in the Bible every day for
a year and they may mean nothing to us. Then, because we have been obedient to
God in some small detail, we suddenly see what God means and His nature is
instantly opened up to us. "All the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him
Amen . . ." (2 Corinthians 1:20). Our "Yes" must be born of obedience; when by
obedience we ratify a promise of God by saying, "Amen," or, "So be it." That
promise becomes ours.

Jesus said, “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to
be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. . . .
But when you do a charitable deed, . . . may [it] be in secret; and your Father
who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matt. 6:1-4). —David H.

Still Human!

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 16th

. . . whatever you do, do all to the glory of God —1 Corinthians 10:31

In the Scriptures, the great miracle of the incarnation slips into the ordinary
life of a child; the great miracle of the transfiguration fades into the
demon-possessed valley below; the glory of the resurrection descends into a
breakfast on the seashore. This is not an anticlimax, but a great revelation of
God.

We have a tendency to look for wonder in our experience, and we mistake heroic
actions for real heroes. It’s one thing to go through a crisis grandly, yet
quite another to go through every day glorifying God when there is no witness,
no limelight, and no one paying even the remotest attention to us. If we are not
looking for halos, we at least want something that will make people say, "What a
wonderful man of prayer he is!" or, "What a great woman of devotion she is!" If
you are properly devoted to the Lord Jesus, you have reached the lofty height
where no one would ever notice you personally. All that is noticed is the power
of God coming through you all the time.

We want to be able to say, "Oh, I have had a wonderful call from God!" But to do
even the most humbling tasks to the glory of God takes the Almighty God
Incarnate working in us. To be utterly unnoticeable requires God’s Spirit in us
making us absolutely humanly His. The true test of a saint’s life is not
successfulness but faithfulness on the human level of life. We tend to set up
success in Christian work as our purpose, but our purpose should be to display
the glory of God in human life, to live a life "hidden with Christ in God" in
our everyday human conditions (Colossians 3:3). Our human relationships are the
very conditions in which the ideal life of God should be exhibited.

Evening... References: -->Psalm 68:28
Strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. It is our wisdom, as
well as our necessity, to beseech God continually to strengthen that which He
has wrought in us. It is because of their neglect in this, that many Christians
may blame themselves for those trials and afflictions of spirit which arise from
unbelief. It is true that Satan seeks to flood the fair garden of the heart and
make it a scene of desolation, but it is also true that many Christians leave
open the sluice-gates themselves, and let in the dreadful deluge through
carelessness and want of prayer to their strong Helper. We often forget that the
Author of our faith must be the Preserver of it also. The lamp which was burning
in the temple was never allowed to go out, but it had to be daily replenished
with fresh oil; in like manner, our faith can only live by being sustained with
the oil of grace, and we can only obtain this from God Himself. Foolish virgins
we shall prove, if we do not secure the needed sustenance for our lamps. He who
built the world upholds it, or it would fall in one tremendous crash; He who
made us Christians must maintain us by His Spirit, or our ruin will be speedy
and final. Let us, then, evening by evening, go to our Lord for the grace and
strength we need. We have a strong argument to plead, for it is His own work of
grace which we ask Him to strengthen-"that which Thou hast wrought for us."
Think you He will fail to protect and sustain that? Only let your faith take
hold of His strength, and all the powers of darkness, led on by the master fiend
of hell, cannot cast a cloud or shadow over your joy and peace. Why faint when
you may be strong? Why suffer defeat when you may conquer? Oh! take your
wavering faith and drooping graces to Him who can revive and replenish them, and
earnestly pray, "Strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us."

Morning... References:-->Lamentations 3:24
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul. It is not "The Lord is partly my
portion," nor "The Lord is in my portion"; but He Himself makes up the sum total
of my soul's inheritance. Within the circumference of that circle lies all that
we possess or desire. The Lord is my portion. Not His grace merely, nor His
love, nor His covenant, but Jehovah Himself. He has chosen us for His portion,
and we have chosen Him for ours. It is true that the Lord must first choose our
inheritance for us, or else we shall never choose it for ourselves; but if we
are really called according to the purpose of electing love, we can sing- "Lov'd
of my God for Him again
With love intense I burn;
Chosen of Him ere time began,
I choose Him in return." The Lord is our all-sufficient portion. God fills
Himself; and if God is all-sufficient in Himself, He must be all-sufficient for
us. It is not easy to satisfy man's desires. When he dreams that he is
satisfied, anon he wakes to the perception that there is somewhat yet beyond,
and straightway the horse-leech in his heart cries, "Give, give." But all that
we can wish for is to be found in our divine portion, so that we ask, "Whom have
I in heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside Thee."
Well may we "delight ourselves in the Lord" who makes us to drink of the river
of His pleasures. Our faith stretches her wings and mounts like an eagle into
the heaven of divine love as to her proper dwelling-place. "The lines have
fallen to us in pleasant places; yea, we have a goodly heritage." Let us rejoice
in the Lord always; let us show to the world that we are a happy and a blessed
people, and thus induce them to exclaim, "We will go with you, for we have heard
that God is with you."

(2) “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear
those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are
not, and have found them liars;
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.The implication from Revelation 2:2, 7 is
that the works of which Christ is concerned are the works of
overcoming—overcoming human nature or, as in I John 2:15-17, overcoming "the
lust of the flesh, the lust of eyes, and the pride of life." In addition, we
must work to overcome the persecutions, deceits, and persuasions of Satan and
the influences of the world.
Using God's love is hard work because there is a constant downward pull in these
three areas: the self, the world, and Satan. The influence to go that way is
always there. It is constant.
It was no accident, no coincidence, that Christ places the message to Ephesus
first in order, and that its subject is love in context with overcoming. Christ
says in John 14:15, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." It takes the love of
God to keep the commandments in the spirit—in their intent—and it is love
working and active when they are kept. I John 5:3 says, "This is the love of
God, that you keep His commandments." So, when we keep His commandments, we are
expressing love. It is working, in action.
If a person's love for Christ—keeping the commandments—diminishes, what happens?
If the love for Christ diminishes, does that not imply the keeping the
commandments will be less frequent? Doing the right works will begin to
diminish. Here is the connection between love and right works. If the love is
present, the right works will be produced.
If a person loses his love for Christ altogether, he is in bad trouble—"Goodbye,
Christianity! Sayonara!" That is the end.

"What Is That to You?"

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 15th

Peter . . . said to Jesus, ’But Lord, what about this man?’ Jesus said to him,
’. . . what is that to you? You follow Me’ —John 21:21-22

One of the hardest lessons to learn comes from our stubborn refusal to refrain
from interfering in other people’s lives. It takes a long time to realize the
danger of being an amateur providence, that is, interfering with God’s plan for
others. You see someone suffering and say, "He will not suffer, and I will make
sure that he doesn’t." You put your hand right in front of God’s permissive will
to stop it, and then God says, "What is that to you?" Is there stagnation in
your spiritual life? Don’t allow it to continue, but get into God’s presence and
find out the reason for it. You will possibly find it is because you have been
interfering in the life of another— proposing things you had no right to
propose, or advising when you had no right to advise. When you do have to give
advice to another person, God will advise through you with the direct
understanding of His Spirit. Your part is to maintain the right relationship
with God so that His discernment can come through you continually for the
purpose of blessing someone else.

Most of us live only within the level of consciousness— consciously serving and
consciously devoted to God. This shows immaturity and the fact that we’re not
yet living the real Christian life. Maturity is produced in the life of a child
of God on the unconscious level, until we become so totally surrendered to God
that we are not even aware of being used by Him. When we are consciously aware
of being used as broken bread and poured-out wine, we have yet another level to
reach— a level where all awareness of ourselves and of what God is doing through
us is completely eliminated. A saint is never consciously a saint— a saint is
consciously dependent on God.

Second Corinthians 5:9 teaches us to “make it our aim . . . to be well pleasing”
to God. As we, by faith, believe in Him and give our lives in service to Him, He
is pleased (Heb. 11:6). That’s our reward, because God’s approval is always
sweeter than the applause of the crowd. —Cindy Hess Kasper

Look not to the people around you,
Nor wait for their laurels of praise;
Enough that the Savior has found you
And calls you to serve all your days. —Hess

The deeds God finds pleasing are those done in service for Him.

Evening... References: -->Genesis 29:26
And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger
before the firstborn. We do not excuse Laban for his dishonesty, but we scruple
not to learn from the custom which he quoted as his excuse. There are some
things which must be taken in order, and if we would win the second we must
secure the first. The second may be the more lovely in our eyes, but the rule of
the heavenly country must stand, and the elder must be married first. For
instance, many men desire the beautiful and well-favoured Rachel of joy and
peace in believing, but they must first be wedded to the tender-eyed Leah of
repentance. Every one falls in love with happiness, and many would cheerfully
serve twice seven years to enjoy it, but according to the rule of the Lord's
kingdom, the Leah of real holiness must be beloved of our soul before the Rachel
of true happiness can be attained. Heaven stands not first but second, and only
by persevering to the end can we win a portion in it. The cross must be carried
before the crown can be worn. We must follow our Lord in His humiliation, or we
shall never rest with Him in glory. My soul, what sayest thou, art thou so vain
as to hope to break through the heavenly rule? Dost thou hope for reward without
labour, or honour without toil? Dismiss the idle expectation, and be content to
take the ill-favoured things for the sake of the sweet love of Jesus, which will
recompense thee for all. In such a spirit, labouring and suffering, thou wilt
find bitters grow sweet, and hard things easy. Like Jacob, thy years of service
will seem unto thee but a few days for the love thou hast to Jesus; and when the
dear hour of the wedding feast shall come, all thy toils shall be as though they
had never been-an hour with Jesus will make up for ages of pain and labour.
Jesus, to win Thyself so fair,
Thy cross I will with gladness bear:
Since so the rules of heaven ordain,
The first I'll wed the next to gain. November 15

Morning... References:-->Deuteronomy 32:9
The Lord's portion is His people. How are they His? By His own sovereign choice.
He chose them, and set His love upon them. This He did altogether apart from any
goodness in them at the time, or any goodness which He foresaw in them. He had
mercy on whom He would have mercy, and ordained a chosen company unto eternal
life; thus, therefore, are they His by His unconstrained election. They are not
only His by choice, but by purchase. He has bought and paid for them to the
utmost farthing, hence about His title there can be no dispute. Not with
corruptible things, as with silver and gold, but with the precious blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord's portion has been fully redeemed. There is no
mortgage on His estate; no suits can be raised by opposing claimants, the price
was paid in open court, and the Church is the Lord's freehold for ever. See the
blood-mark upon all the chosen, invisible to human eye, but known to Christ, for
"the Lord knoweth them that are His"; He forgetteth none of those whom He has
redeemed from among men; He counts the sheep for whom He laid down His life, and
remembers well the Church for which He gave Himself. They are also His by
conquest. What a battle He had in us before we would be won! How long He laid
siege to our hearts! How often He sent us terms of capitulation! but we barred
our gates, and fenced our walls against Him. Do we not remember that glorious
hour when He carried our hearts by storm? When He placed His cross against the
wall, and scaled our ramparts, planting on our strongholds the blood-red flag of
His omnipotent mercy? Yes, we are, indeed, the conquered captives of His
omnipotent love. Thus chosen, purchased, and subdued, the rights of our divine
possessor are inalienable: we rejoice that we never can be our own; and we
desire, day by day, to do His will, and to show forth His glory.

Psalm 14:1-5 (New King James Version) Change American Standard Version
Amplified® Bible Contemporary English Version Darby English Version Good News

Young's Literal Translation

(1) –To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good. (2) The LORD looks down from heaven upon the
children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
(3) They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one. (4) Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the LORD?
(5) There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.

Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.Let us hope that none of us is this
"blind." From my experience as a minister, it is possible that Christians can be
what David describes as a "fool." One may say, "Well, since my conversion, I
have never said that there is no God." Maybe we have and never realized it!
How could that happen? "Fool" here is nabal. Remember the story of David and
Abigail? Abigail's husband was named Nabal, and he was a fool. It means someone
who is contemptible, someone who is empty. It does not mean "an atheist" or one
who has no contact with God. It does not even mean that such a person does not
see God in His creation. The fool that David describes here may readily admit
that God is Creator and claim that this belief plays a major role in his life.
This person, this "fool," though not an atheist, lives as if he believes no God
exists, either to bless with reward or to curse with punishment. A nabal is not
stupid; he is not a person who does not reason at all. He is a person who
reasons wrongly. A nabal is a person who chooses or assumes to ignore the fact
of God's authority over his life. He sees God as an "absentee landlord" who may
be safely disregarded because he assumes that God is not really active in His
Creation. Now that is foolishness!
In biblical contexts, foolishness can be sin! The fool's problem is not with his
brain but his heart. The fool is capable of grasping the things of God, but he
possesses no real fear or reverence for God and the things of God. This results
in nothing less than a "practical atheism." Even though he may readily admit
that God is Creator, he lives his life as though God is nowhere around. He has
produced a dichotomy between what he intellectually knows and the way he lives.
God says such a person is a fool. He is, in reality, saying in his heart, "There
is no God."
That is sobering because any of us can fall into this state, as Psalm 14:5
implies: "There [fools] are in great fear, for God is with the generation of the
righteous." Like us, the fool is aware of God. When the punishment, the curse,
for sin comes—when God begins to reveal Himself as the Judge of sinners—then the
fool, because of what He knows of God, also knows great fear. If he truly
thought, "There is no God," the fear would not exist, but he knows that there
really is a God, though his life belies it.

Evening... References: -->Luke 18:1
Men ought always to pray. If men ought always to pray and not to faint, much
more Christian men. Jesus has sent His church into the world on the same errand
upon which He Himself came, and this mission includes intercession. What if I
say that the church is the world's priest? Creation is dumb, but the church is
to find a mouth for it. It is the church's high privilege to pray with
acceptance. The door of grace is always open for her petitions, and they never
return empty-handed. The veil was rent for her, the blood was sprinkled upon the
altar for her, God constantly invites her to ask what she wills. Will she refuse
the privilege which angels might envy her? Is she not the bride of Christ? May
she not go in unto her King at every hour? Shall she allow the precious
privilege to be unused? The church always has need for prayer. There are always
some in her midst who are declining, or falling into open sin. There are lambs
to be prayed for, that they may be carried in Christ's bosom? the strong, lest
they grow presumptuous; and the weak, lest they become despairing. If we kept up
prayer-meetings four-and-twenty hours in the day, all the days in the year, we
might never be without a special subject for supplication. Are we ever without
the sick and the poor, the afflicted and the wavering? Are we ever without those
who seek the conversion of relatives, the reclaiming of back-sliders, or the
salvation of the depraved? Nay, with congregations constantly gathering, with
ministers always preaching, with millions of sinners lying dead in trespasses
and sins; in a country over which the darkness of Romanism is certainly
descending; in a world full of idols, cruelties, devilries, if the church doth
not pray, how shall she excuse her base neglect of the commission of her loving
Lord? Let the church be constant in supplication, let every private believer
cast his mite of prayer into the treasuryNovember 14

Morning... References:-->Zephaniah 1:5
I will cut off them that worship and that swear by the Lord, and that swear by
Malcham. Such persons thought themselves safe because they were with both
parties: they went with the followers of Jehovah, and bowed at the same time to
Malcham. But duplicity is abominable with God, and hypocrisy His soul hateth.
The idolater who distinctly gives himself to his false god, has one sin less
than he who brings his polluted and detestable sacrifice unto the temple of the
Lord, while his heart is with the world and the sins thereof. To hold with the
hare and run with the hounds, is a dastard's policy. In the common matters of
daily life, a double- minded man is despised, but in religion he is loathsome to
the last degree. The penalty pronounced in the verse before us is terrible, but
it is well deserved; for how should divine justice spare the sinner, who knows
the right, approves it, and professes to follow it, and all the while loves the
evil, and gives it dominion in his heart? My soul, search thyself this morning,
and see whether thou art guilty of double-dealing. Thou professest to be a
follower of Jesus-dost thou truly love Him? Is thy heart right with God? Art
thou of the family of old Father Honest, or art thou a relative of Mr. By-ends?
A name to live is of little value if I be indeed dead in trespasses and sins. To
have one foot on the land of truth, and another on the sea of falsehood, will
involve a terrible fall and a total ruin. Christ will be all or nothing. God
fills the whole universe, and hence there is no room for another god; if, then,
He reigns in my heart, there will be no space for another reigning power. Do I
rest alone on Jesus crucified, and live alone for Him? Is it my desire to do so?
Is my heart set upon so doing? If so, blessed be the mighty grace which has led
me to salvation; and if not so, O Lord, pardon my sad offence, and unite my
heart to fear Thy name.
Matthew 13:33(33) Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven
is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was
all leavened."
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
The woman in the Parable of the Leaven is interesting because in all the other
parables a man is the main character. What is "a woman" in Scripture?
In Revelation 12, a woman is symbolic of the nation of Israel, and in Revelation
17 and 18 she represents the false system of Babylon. In Isaiah 47, a woman is
again symbolic of Babylon (whether the nation or the system of Babylon). In
Galations 4:21-31, Paul uses "women" to symbolize the Old Covenant and the New
Covenant. In Ezekiel 16, God uses a woman to symbolize Israel: "Aholah" is the
kingdom of Israel and "Aholibah" is the kingdom of Judah.
What can we understand from this? Every time a woman is used as a symbol, the
common denominator is the idea of a system of beliefs and practices that
influence other people. A church or religion is a system of beliefs and
practices. A nation has a character and way of doing things. This world as a
whole has a system of beliefs and practices that go contrary to God. To find out
what kind of system is being referred to, we must look at the context to see how
the system works, how it reacts, and what it does.
What are the characteristics of this woman in the parable? First, she took
leaven. This is the common word used to mean "to come into possession of." It is
a common Greek word, but it can also have the connotation of "to seize," "to
take by force." The text does not say which connotation is correct here.
The next verb is "hid" (Greek, enkrupto), an interesting word. It means "to hide
in" or "to mix." Enkrupto is used only this way here. Enkrupto is the same word
from which we get our word "encrypt." A general tells his lieutenant, "Encrypt
this message and take it to the colonel at the front line." What does the
lieutenant do when he encrypts it? He mixes up the letters according to a code,
and only a person with the key to the encryption knows what the message is
saying.
The root word for enkrupto is krupto, which means "to cover, to conceal, to keep
secret." Its major connotation is "to be sneaky" or "to be secret, covert, or
surreptitious." It seems from the usage of these words that this woman is up to
no good whatsoever. First, she takes something, then she hides it. She is a bad
lady, a bad system.
She hides the leaven "in three measures of meal." That Jesus uses the very
phrase "three measures of meal" is quite interesting—and it is a key, because
this told His Jewish audience something that He did not have to explain, as they
were familiar with it. It was a normal practice and meant something to them.
It has been suggested that He used this amount because it is the average
quantity of meal a housewife would employ in her daily baking. This suggestion
is pretty ridiculous when we consider that three measures of meal equal about
two gallons of meal (7.3 liters)! That seems like a lot of bread each day.
An average loaf of bread contains about three cups of flour. Two gallons of
meal, which is the equivalent of about eight quarts or thirty-two cups, would
make nearly eleven loaves! Even the most bread-gorging family on this earth
would not eat eleven loaves each day. Normally, one loaf would suffice for one
person for a day, if he ate nothing else. Jesus, then, is probably speaking of a
special occasion.
Genesis 18 contains the first biblical usage of "three measures of meal." This
is the occasion when the One who became Jesus Christ and two angels came to
Abraham, and he made them a meal. Jesus tells him in verse 5, "Go ahead and make
a meal." "So Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah and said, 'Quickly, make
ready three measures of fine meal'" (Genesis 18:6).
What was "three measures of meal"? There is a principle of Bible study (the law
of first mention) that says, "The first time a thing—a word, a phrase—is
mentioned in the Bible influences how it should be interpreted throughout."
Here, "three measures of meal" is used in the context of a fellowship
meal—giving hospitality, in this case, to God—so it has a spiritual connotation.
The law of grain offerings in Numbers 15:8-9 provides some instruction. We need
to learn a little bit about Israelite measures. The smallest unit of measure is
an omer. Three omers equal one seah. This seah is what is translated "measure"
in Matthew 13:33, except it is in Greek—saton. There is also the ephah, which is
ten omers. Three omers equal one seah. Three seahs made up of three omers equal
one ephah. These verses show that the smallest meal offering that could be given
was one seah—three-tenths of an ephah. It had to be of fine flour. Abraham gave
three seahs—three measures. He went above and beyond what was required for the
meal offering.
Judges 6:18-19 shows Gideon's offering to the Lord. How much did he give? Gideon
gave an ephah—three measures of meal. I Samuel 1:24 tells of Hannah's thank
offering. How much? Hannah's offering was one ephah—three measures of meal. In
Ezekiel 45:24 and 46:5, 7, 11 are the offerings given at the Feast during the
Millennium. How much is given? An ephah—three measures of meal—is given.
With these examples in mind, we can understand that Christ's use of this phrase
would have made His Jewish audience think immediately of the meal offering in
Leviticus 2—and they would have been absolutely shocked out of their shoes to
find that someone had the audacity, the blasphemy, to put leaven in a meal
offering! That was not kosher! It simply was not done! A person who did so could
expect to be zapped by the next lightning bolt out of heaven. It was sin. What,
then, would the normal Jew have thought? He would have understood immediately
that the Kingdom of Heaven would be subverted. Something good had been
corrupted.
"Three measures of meal," the meal offering, represents the offerer's service
and devotion to fellowman, and it is typified by what Christ did throughout His
whole life by offering Himself in service to fellowman. Symbolically, it
represents the second great commandment, "You shall love your neighbor as
yourself." It is devoted service toward others.
If "three measures of meal" represents our love, service, and devotion to
fellowman, this parable warns us that the false system will make a concerted and
covert effort to corrupt the true church through false doctrine aimed at how we
treat each other. It will lunge directly at the church's jugular—how we treat
one another.
The "three measures of meal" represents the church's teachings. This squares
with our understanding of what Christ is. He is the Word, and one of His titles
is "the Bread of life." The church's teachings come from the Word of God, which
is our daily bread. Fine meal is the major component of bread. Satan would try
to corrupt the word, the teaching, so that church members would not treat each
other well, offend one another, and maybe some would lose their salvation.
And the woman succeeds! Jesus says, ". . . till it was all leavened!" Sobering,
is it not?
The church has been fairly successful in guarding the major doctrines that have
to do with its identity: the Sabbath, the nature of God, the identity of Israel,
the holy days, God's plan. Where has the church shown its greatest weakness? In
the area of personal relationships. What do we hear about among and within the
congregations? Distrust, offense, marriage problems, disunity, selfishness,
gossip, rumor, tale-bearing, judging and condemning, comparing ourselves among
ourselves, giving place to wrath, etc. These are the works of the flesh—they
reflect how we treat one another. All of these are part of the meal offering—our
service and devotion to each other. In these areas we need to focus our greatest
attention, overcoming how we treat each other, growing in our devotion and
service. We must get along with one another as God intends, or we might not be
around to enter His Kingdom.

Discovering Divine Design

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 14th

As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me . . . —Genesis 24:27

We should be so one with God that we don’t need to ask continually for guidance.
Sanctification means that we are made the children of God. A child’s life is
normally obedient, until he chooses disobedience. But as soon as he chooses to
disobey, an inherent inner conflict is produced. On the spiritual level, inner
conflict is the warning of the Spirit of God. When He warns us in this way, we
must stop at once and be renewed in the spirit of our mind to discern God’s will
(see Romans 12:2 ). If we are born again by the Spirit of God, our devotion to
Him is hindered, or even stopped, by continually asking Him to guide us here and
there. ". . . the Lord led me . . ." and on looking back we see the presence of
an amazing design. If we are born of God we will see His guiding hand and give
Him the credit.

We can all see God in exceptional things, but it requires the growth of
spiritual discipline to see God in every detail. Never believe that the
so-called random events of life are anything less than God’s appointed order. Be
ready to discover His divine designs anywhere and everywhere.

Beware of being obsessed with consistency to your own convictions instead of
being devoted to God. If you are a saint and say, "I will never do this or
that," in all probability this will be exactly what God will require of you.
There was never a more inconsistent being on this earth than our Lord, but He
was never inconsistent with His Father. The important consistency in a saint is
not to a principle but to the divine life. It is the divine life that
continually makes more and more discoveries about the divine mind. It is easier
to be an excessive fanatic than it is to be consistently faithful, because God
causes an amazing humbling of our religious conceit when we are faithful to Him.

WoRD OF GOD
... through Bertha Dudde - 30.8.1954

New Revelations.... Reason.... Bible....
It is very dangerous when My Word gets wrongly interpreted, when the
meaning of My Word becomes distorted and this misinterpretation is then used as
a foundation again. For then My adversary will have easy access by
confusing people's thoughts more than ever and distance them ever further from
the
truth.
No-one will ever be able to quote a Word from the Scriptures which proves
that the Father will never speak to His children again because He has
already declared His will in the Scriptures....
There is no Word which could give people the right to deny new Words of
love by God.... there is no Word which would support the opponents of My New
Revelations, for I would never have spoken such a Word, because only I know
that My living creations on earth will require My Word time and again in
order to reach the objective of becoming My children....
I speak to people in different ways indeed, and therefore not every human
being needs to hear My voice directly; yet if I didn't speak to people time
and again only few would, in fact, reach their goal.... For without the
working of My spirit people would be unable to think correctly, to separate
truth from error and even to understand the Scriptures correctly....
Thus I also address people when I teach them to think correctly and
establish the right goal for their feelings, but whatever a person thinks who
is
guided by My spirit he will also be able to voice it, and this
communication through a human mouth is then likewise a revelation from Me, for
then it
is My Word which was imparted to the human being by My spirit. For I want
to speak to people, and if someone willingly places himself at My disposal
by wanting to proclaim My Word to people.... then My Word will be voiced
through this person's mouth....
Every true messenger of My Word offers Me the opportunity of revealing
Myself anew.... And likewise, I can voice My Word when someone is willing to
listen to Me.... when a person attentively listens within himself and
desires to be addressed by Me....
Would a loving Father stay quiet when His child desires to hear Him?....
Does My love limit itself?
Am I not a Lord of infinite riches which I Am constantly willing to
bestow?
Do you humans want to impose restrictions on Me or deny Me to speak when
and to whom I want?
If you believe that I can be present with you, then you also have to
believe that I will reveal Myself when I Am with you, and yet you want to argue
that I speak to people who want to hear Me....
But I have promised you My presence with the Words `Whenever two or three
of you come together in My name I Am there with you....'
And what will you talk about then?
Will you discuss worldly affairs?
No, you will make Me the subject of your conversation, you will speak
righteously, and you will say what I put into your mouth, for I Myself will
speak through you so that you recognise My presence.... And thus I Myself will
be wherever people unite to hear My Word.... wherever I Am allowed to
speak, wherever My spirit can work, and you humans will always receive the same
Word since it is your desire to hear Me....
I know how much people need My Word, and therefore I will never stop
conveying My Word to you, and I will enlighten people about error and
misinterpretation of the Scriptures; I will impart My pure Gospel Myself to
those who
open themselves to Me, thereby wanting to be of service to Me and their
fellow human beings.... for I will bless every good will and every desire for
truth, and My blessing consists of speaking to them Myself just as I once
spoke to My disciples, and I will give all those who are able to hear Me
the task to spread My pure Gospel, for I speak through them to everyone who
wants to hear Me....
Amen

How Do We Get Our Children to Dream Bold Dreams?

Join Judge Glenda Hatchett in the movement to post the dreams of one million
children!

This month, Judge Glenda Hatchett (www.parentpowernow.com), one of the most
powerful voices of daytime television, is challenging parents around the world
to "Cheer for Our Children" with the launch of the DREAMPOST Campaign, a
movement to mobilize parents and influencers to post the dreams of one million
children and teens.

"The path to greatness begins with a dream," said Judge Hatchett. "We have to
encourage our children to dream without limits, tell them we believe in them,
and tell them often. If one million parents join our campaign to post our
children's dreams, we won't ever have to worry about posting their bail in the
midnight hour."

The goal of the DREAMPOST Campaign is to inspire greatness in America's
children. To participate, parents and influencers simply download a free copy of
the "handprint of greatness," at www.parentpowernow.com and then ask their child
or a child in their circle of influence, "What is your dream for your life?"
They then write the dream on the handprint and place it on the child's ceiling
above their bed in a posting ceremony so that it's the last thing the child sees
every night, and the first thing they see each and every morning. The last step
is to post a dream for every child in their circle of influence and encourage
other parents to post their children's dreams.

Parents, teachers, mentors, clergy, coaches and others committed to positively
impacting our youth are encouraged to participate in the DREAMPOST Campaign.
Visit www.parentpowernow.com to download your free "handprint of greatness" and
place a positive handprint on the futures of our children and teens today!

Faith or Experience?

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 13th

. . . the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me —Galatians 2:20

We should battle through our moods, feelings, and emotions into absolute
devotion to the Lord Jesus. We must break out of our own little world of
experience into abandoned devotion to Him. Think who the New Testament says
Jesus Christ is, and then think of the despicable meagerness of the miserable
faith we exhibit by saying, "I haven’t had this experience or that experience"!
Think what faith in Jesus Christ claims and provides— He can present us
faultless before the throne of God, inexpressibly pure, absolutely righteous,
and profoundly justified. Stand in absolute adoring faith "in Christ Jesus, who
became for us wisdom from God— and righteousness and sanctification and
redemption . . ." (1 Corinthians 1:30). How dare we talk of making a sacrifice
for the Son of God! We are saved from hell and total destruction, and then we
talk about making sacrifices!

We must continually focus and firmly place our faith in Jesus Christ— not a
"prayer meeting" Jesus Christ, or a "book" Jesus Christ, but the New Testament
Jesus Christ, who is God Incarnate, and who ought to strike us dead at His feet.
Our faith must be in the One from whom our salvation springs. Jesus Christ wants
our absolute, unrestrained devotion to Himself. We can never experience Jesus
Christ, or selfishly bind Him in the confines of our own hearts. Our faith must
be built on strong determined confidence in Him.

It is because of our trusting in experience that we see the steadfast impatience
of the Holy Spirit against unbelief. All of our fears are sinful, and we create
our own fears by refusing to nourish ourselves in our faith. How can anyone who
is identified with Jesus Christ suffer from doubt or fear! Our lives should be
an absolute hymn of praise resulting from perfect, irrepressible, triumphant
belief.

Evening... References:-->Luke 6:12
And it came to pass in those days, that He went out into a mountain to pray, and
continued all night in prayer to God. If ever one of woman born might have lived
without prayer, it was our spotless, perfect a Lord, and yet none was ever so
much in supplication as He! Such was His love to His Father, that He loved much
to be in communion with Him: such His love for His people, that He desired to be
much in intercession for them. The fact of this eminent prayerfulness of Jesus is
a lesson for us-He hath given us an example that we may follow in His steps. The
time He chose was admirable, it was the hour of silence, when the crowd would
not disturb Him; the time of inaction, when all but Himself had ceased to
labour; and the season when slumber made men forget their woes, and cease their
applications to Him for relief. While others found rest in sleep, He refreshed
Himself with prayer. The place was also well selected. He was alone where none
would intrude, where none could observe: thus was He free from Pharisaic
ostentation and vulgar interruption. Those dark and silent hills were a fit
oratory for the Son of God. Heaven and earth in midnight stillness heard the
groans and sighs of the mysterious Being in whom both worlds were blended. The
continuance of His pleadings is remarkable; the long watches were not too long;
the cold wind did not chill His devotions; the grim darkness did not darken His
faith, or loneliness check His importunity. We cannot watch with Him one hour,
but He watched for us whole nights. The occasion for this prayer is notable; it
was after His enemies had been enraged-prayer was His refuge and solace; it was
before He sent forth the twelve apostles-prayer was the gate of His enterprise,
the herald of His new work. Should we not learn from Jesus to resort to special
prayer when we are under peculiar trial, or contemplate fresh endeavours for the
Master's glory? Lord Jesus, teach us to pray.November 13

Morning... References: -->John 15:4
The branch cannot bear fruit of itself. How did you begin to bear fruit? It was
when you came to Jesus and cast yourselves on His great atonement, and rested on
His finished righteousness. Ah! what fruit you had then! Do you remember those
early days? Then indeed the vine flourished, the tender grape appeared, the
pomegranates budded forth, and the beds of spices gave forth their smell. Have
you declined since then? If you have, we charge you to remember that time of
love, and repent, and do thy first works. Be most in those engagements which you
have experimentally proved to draw you nearest to Christ, because it is from Him
that all your fruits proceed. Any holy exercise which will bring you to Him will
help you to bear fruit. The sun is, no doubt, a great worker in fruit-creating
among the trees of the orchard: and Jesus is still more so among the trees of
His garden of grace. When have you been the most fruitless? Has not it been when
you have lived farthest from the Lord Jesus Christ, when you have slackened in
prayer, when you have departed f rom the simplicity of your faith, when your
graces have engrossed your attention instead of your Lord, when you have said,
"My mountain standeth firm, I shall never be moved"; and have forgotten where
your strength dwells-has not it been then that your fruit has ceased? Some of us
have been taught that we have nothing out of Christ, by terrible abasements of
heart before the Lord; and when we have seen the utter barrenness and death of
all creature power, we have cried in anguish, "From Him all my fruit must be
found, for no fruit can ever come from me." We are taught, by past experience,
that the more simply we depend upon the grace of God in Christ, and wait upon
the Holy Spirit, the more we shall bring forth fruit unto God. Oh! to trust
Jesus for fruit as well as for life.

Young's Literal Translation

(7) Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will
also reap. (8) For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption,
but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.What a man sows follows the universal law
of "kind reproduces kind." We cannot get cabbage from brussels sprout seeds, nor
carrots from radish seeds—no matter how much the seeds may look alike. They are
simply not of the same kind.
If we planted corn and got pumpkins, we would be greatly surprised. Similarly,
if we gossip about our friends, we should not be surprised to find that we do
not have as many friends as before or that people are more guarded in their
relationships with us. The seeds of gossip can produce only one kind of
fruit—bad! Every action produces results, and every result tends to be of the
kind that was sowed.
Jesus confirms this principle in human conduct:
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or
figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree
bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good
fruit. (Matthew 7:16-18)
A second principle is at work on this earth among living things. In the
reproductive process there is a powerful tendency toward increase. Simple
observation of our lawns establishes this truth—weeds!
When we put these two principles together, we find that no matter what a man
sows, unless something intervenes to interrupt the cycle, more will be produced
than was sown. One can fake living according to Christian standards and morals
for a while, but no matter how careful a person is, the fruit produced by his
life will betray him. As Numbers 32:23 says, "But if you do not do [as God
commands], then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your
sin will find you out."
No one knows how long it will take and how much fruit will be produced, but sin
will produce spiritual weaknesses, even though they are concealed with great
energy and hypocrisy. Bitterness, divisiveness, weak understanding, confusion,
and spiritual lethargy will surface. Many variables affect how much and how soon
the fruit will appear, but because of the principle of increase, it is certain
that more will be reaped than was originally sown.

Evening... References:-->Psalm 47:4
He shall choose our inheritance for us. Believer, if your inheritance be a lowly
one you should be satisfied with your earthly portion; for you may rest assured
that it is the fittest for you. Unerring wisdom ordained your lot, and selected
for you the safest and best condition. A ship of large tonnage is to be brought
up the river; now, in one part of the stream there is a sandbank; should some
one ask, "Why does the captain steer through the deep part of the channel and
deviate so much from a straight line?" His answer would be, "Because I should
not get my vessel into harbour at all if I did not keep to the deep channel."
So, it may be, you would run aground and suffer shipwreck, if your divine
Captain did not steer you into the depths of affliction where waves of trouble
follow each other in quick succession. Some plants die if they have too much
sunshine. It may be that you are planted where you get but little, you are put
there by the loving Husbandman, because only in that situation will you bring
forth fruit unto perfection. Remember this, had any other condition been better
for you than the one in which you are, divine love would have put you there. You
are placed by God in the most suitable circumstances, and if you had the
choosing of your lot, you would soon cry, "Lord, choose my inheritance for me,
for by my self-will I am pierced through with many sorrows." Be content with
such things as you have, since the Lord has ordered all things for your good.
Take up your own daily cross; it is the burden best suited for your shoulder,
and will prove most effective to make you perfect in every good word and work to
the glory of God. Down busy self, and proud impatience, it is not for you to
choose, but for the Lord of Love! "Trials must and will befall-
But with humble faith to see
Love inscribed upon them all;
This is happiness to me." November 12

Morning... References:-->1 Peter 1:7
The trial of your faith. Faith untried may be true faith, but it is sure to be
little faith, and it is likely to remain dwarfish so long as it is without
trials. Faith never prospers so well as when all things are against her:
tempests are her trainers, and lightnings are her illuminators. When a calm
reigns on the sea, spread the sails as you will, the ship moves not to its
harbour; for on a slumbering ocean the keel sleeps too. Let the winds rush
howling forth, and let the waters lift up themselves, then, though the vessel
may rock, and her deck may be washed with waves, and her mast may creak under
the pressure of the full and swelling sail, it is then that she makes headway
towards her desired haven. No flowers wear so lovely a blue as those which grow
at the foot of the frozen glacier; no stars gleam so brightly as those which
glisten in the polar sky; no water tastes so sweet as that which springs amid
the desert sand; and no faith is so precious as that which lives and triumphs in
adversity. Tried faith brings experience. You could not have believed your own
weakness had you not been compelled to pass through the rivers; and you would
never have known God's strength had you not been supported amid the
water-floods. Faith increases in solidity, assurance, and intensity, the more it
is exercised with tribulation. Faith is precious, and its trial is precious too.
Let not this, however, discourage those who are young in faith. You will have
trials enough without seeking them: the full portion will be measured out to you
in due season. Meanwhile, if you cannot yet claim the result of long experience,
thank God for what grace you have; praise Him for that degree of holy confidence
whereunto you have attained: walk according to that rule, and you shall yet have
more and more of the blessing of God, till your faith shall remove mountains and
conquer impossibilities. Genesis 2:18(18) And the LORD God said, "It is not
good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
How can a person, independent from consistent fellowship with the body of
Christ, the church, still be a part of it? A person thinking this way is sliding
away from God's intention, as His Word clearly shows. He fully intends we be
active members of a physical body as well as the spiritual organism. Is the
church only a spiritual organism? If the spiritual organism is the only
important aspect, why even have congregations? Could congregations play a major
role in preparing us for God's Kingdom?
Let's look at this from another angle. God intends mankind to be an active and
contributing part of a physical community. "And the LORD God said, 'It is not
good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.' . .
. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:18, 24).
Perhaps verse 18 could be rephrased as, "It is not good that man be
independent." Our God establishes principles and patterns in His Word from which
we can extract wisdom, the practical application of truth. Some of the most
basic and fundamental patterns for His purpose are established very early in
Genesis.
What is He showing here? That, in relation to God's purpose, the most and the
best will not be produced in us if we are alone. If we are independent, we
remove ourselves from the circumstances that will produce the most toward His
purpose. In this specific context, God is not commanding everyone to marry, but
He is clearly showing that marriage is generally better than remaining single.
Everyone understands from his own experiences that the more people who comprise
a unit or community, the greater the number and intensity of problems. This
occurs largely because our carnality drives us to compete rather than cooperate.
Sometimes a person desires so strongly to be independent of this kind of
community relationship that he separates himself in order to be completely free
from the suspicions, distrust, offenses, and other hardships that occur within a
group. To put it another way, it is similar to a soldier running away from the
battlefield to protect himself.
In its rawest form, it is selfishness and self-interest. It can be self-serving
avoidance of being useful, of contributing steadfast strength and encouragement,
of being a right example to others, or of being found wrong and corrected. If
nothing else, we are detaching ourselves from the unit to which God intends we
show allegiance and service.

The Changed Life

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 12th

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new —2 Corinthians 5:17

What understanding do you have of the salvation of your soul? The work of
salvation means that in your real life things are dramatically changed. You no
longer look at things in the same way. Your desires are new and the old things
have lost their power to attract you. One of the tests for determining if the
work of salvation in your life is genuine is— has God changed the things that
really matter to you? If you still yearn for the old things, it is absurd to
talk about being born from above— you are deceiving yourself. If you are born
again, the Spirit of God makes the change very evident in your real life and
thought. And when a crisis comes, you are the most amazed person on earth at the
wonderful difference there is in you. There is no possibility of imagining that
you did it. It is this complete and amazing change that is the very evidence
that you are saved.

What difference has my salvation and sanctification made? For instance, can I
stand in the light of 1 Corinthians 13 , or do I squirm and evade the issue?
True salvation, worked out in me by the Holy Spirit, frees me completely. And as
long as I "walk in the light as He is in the light" (1 John 1:7), God sees
nothing to rebuke because His life is working itself into every detailed part of
my being, not on the conscious level, but even deeper than my consciousness.

As we learn from Job, however, God sometimes allows bad things to happen to good
people. Although disaster can strike at any moment, nothing has the power to
destroy those who trust Christ (2 Cor. 4:9). No disaster can separate us from
God’s love. —Julie Ackerman Link

1 Timothy 2:1(1) Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
1 Timothy 2:3-4(3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our
Savior, (4) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the
truth. 1 Timothy 2:6(6) who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in
due time, 2 Peter 3:8-9(8) But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that
with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
(9) The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but
is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all
should come to repentance.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. Three times in four brief verses (I
Timothy 2:1, 3-4, 6), God states He has planned for the salvation of all. Since
He desires to save all men, they must all be given an opportunity for it. It is
very obvious from human experience that very few among all mankind have ever
heard the gospel or come to the knowledge of the truth.
Verse 6 also says that Christ is a ransom for all, and this will be testified or
witnessed of in due time. The way Paul wrote this shows that the testifying is
still future. In other words, many had not heard of Christ's ransom for sin, and
Paul indicates that he expected many then living and many yet unborn would also
die without hearing of it. But it would be witnessed to all in due time because
Jesus Christ is the only name under heaven by which men can be saved.
God's plan, humanly speaking, covers a long time. Like Paul, Peter clearly says
that God does not desire anyone to perish. Other scriptures indicate that some
will, but it is not God's will that they do so.
The critical factor in these verses is repentance. How can a person repent if he
does not have knowledge of the truth, if he does not know the purpose God is
working out, of what he should repent, why he should repent, or by what means
his sins are forgiven? The overwhelming majority of people who have ever lived
on earth fit into this category! These things remain untestified to them.
I Corinthians 15:21-23 adds another important revelation to this mystery. "For
since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as
in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his
own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His
coming."
Simply put, God is proceeding according to a plan. All die, but that same all
will also be made alive, resurrected in a certain order according to God's plan.
Verse 26 reads, "The last enemy that will be destroyed is death"—it has not yet
been destroyed! This means that God's plan is still continuing, and in due time
the opportunity for salvation will come to all, even though God must resurrect
many to that opportunity. Most churches exclude most of this world from
salvation because they are not part of their group. Why do people scoff when we
point out that God will give all mankind the chance to conform to His image?

From The Final Harvest
Evening... References:-->Matthew 10:25
It is enough for the disciple that he be as His Master.
Noone will dispute this statement, for it would be unseemly for the servant to
be exalted above his Master. When our Lord was on earth, what was the treatment
He received? Were His claims acknowledged, His instructions followed, His
perfections worshipped, by those whom He came to bless? No; "He was despised and
rejected of men." Outside the camp was His place: cross-bearing was His
occupation. Did the world yield Him solace and rest? "Foxes have holes, and the
birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head."
This inhospitable country afforded Him no shelter: it cast Him out and crucified
Him. Such-if you are a follower of Jesus, and maintain a consistent, Christ-like
walk and conversation-you must expect to be the lot of that part of your
spiritual life which, in its outward development, comes under the observation of
men. They will treat it as they treated the Saviour-they will despise it. Dream
not that worldlings will admire you, or that the more holy and the more
Christ-like you are, the more peaceably people will act towards you. They prized
not the polished gem, how should they value the jewel in the rough? "If they
have called the Master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call
them of His household?" If we were more like Christ, we should be more hated by
His enemies. It were a sad dishonour to a child of God to be the world's
favourite. It is a very ill omen to hear a wicked world clap its hands and shout
"Well done" to the Christian man. He may begin to look to his character, and
wonder whether he has not been doing wrong, when the unrighteous give him their
approbation. Let us be true to our Master, and have no friendship with a blind
and base world which scorns and rejects Him. Far be it from us to seek a crown
of honour where our Lord found a coronet of thorn.November 11

Morning... References:-->Deuteronomy 33:27
Underneath are the everlasting arms. God-the eternal God-is Himself our support
at all times, and especially when we are sinking in deep trouble. There are
seasons when the Christian sinks very low in humiliation. Under a deep sense of
his great sinfulness, he is humbled before God till he scarcely knows how to
pray, because he appears, in his own sight, so worthless. Well, child of God,
remember that when thou art at thy worst and lowest, yet "underneath" thee "are
everlasting arms." Sin may drag thee ever so low, but Christ's great atonement
is still under all. You may have descended into the deeps, but you cannot have
fallen so low as "the uttermost"; and to the uttermost He saves. Again, the
Christian sometimes sinks very deeply in sore trial from without. Every earthly
prop is cut away. What then? Still underneath him are "the everlasting arms." He
cannot fall so deep in distress and affliction but what the covenant grace of an
ever-faithful God will still encircle him. The Christian may be sinking under
trouble from within through fierce conflict, but even then he cannot be brought
so low as to be beyond the reach of the "everlasting arms"-they are underneath
him; and, while thus sustained, all Satan's efforts to harm him avail nothing.
This assurance of support is a comfort to any weary but earnest worker in the
service of God. It implies a promise of strength for each day, grace for each
need, and power for each duty. And, further, when death comes, the promise shall
still hold good. When we stand in the midst of Jordan, we shall be able to say
with David, "I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me." We shall descend into
the grave, but we shall go no lower, for the eternal arms prevent our further
fall. All through life, and at its close, we shall be upheld by the "everlasting
arms"-arms that neither flag nor lose their strength, for "the everlasting God
fainteth not, neither is weary." 1 Timothy 2:1(1) Therefore I exhort first of
all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for
all men,
1 Timothy 2:3-4(3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our
Savior, (4) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the

I Appeal to You
... through Bertha Dudde - 25.8.1962

Doubting divine revelations....
Time and again people will doubt My divine revelations because they do not
have enough living faith, otherwise they could easily understand My
actions during the final time before the end. Living faith demands a life of
love, which most people disregard because they only want to love themselves,
and in this misguided love they cannot find Me, they cannot recognise Me as
their God and Creator, Who also wants to be their Father. Their faith is a
mere formality, an acquired knowledge of faith, which could not yet become
alive in them and therefore they cannot understand the `outpouring of My
spirit' either, which I have promised to all of those who `believe in Me and
keep My commandments....' because it is to those whom I want to reveal
Myself. And the more they adhere to this formal faith the more they reject My
revelations which, however, I will continue to send to earth because I
consider it necessary for people to be informed of the whole truth and not seek
the purpose of life in distorted doctrines.... by believing what is far
removed from the truth and not being able to recognise the plain, simple truth
from Me any longer....
In fact, it is far easier to introduce the pure truth to a completely
sceptical person than to convince those who overzealously study the Book of
Books, who attempt to explain every letter intellectually and who reject My
simple communication as the work of demons. My adversary has already spread
dense darkness, and even uses this book to confuse people's logical thought
and to prevent the people from gaining a clear understanding. He is
succeeding because their bond with Me is not deep enough for My strength of
love
to flow into a human heart which would enable it to receive the light and to
distinguish truth from error.
However, human beings would be in dire trouble if I did not have
compassion on them and try to strengthen them remarkably, if I did not, by way
of
direct communication with them, give them proof of Me and My presence and
even speak to My children like a Father.... You humans are still seeking Me in
the distance.... even if you believe in Me you cannot believe that the
Father speaks to His children.... that He Himself bends down to persuade His
children to submit themselves to Him trustingly, asking Him to guide them
through their earthly lives. You forever think of Me as the strict God Who
gives commandments, Who demands obedience and punishes those people who are
disobedient.... You should know that I never `punish' My living creations,
but that they create every painful state for themselves, that they
themselves also ventured towards the depth, that I do not condemn them but
forever
attempt to lead them back again, that I help them to ascend from the abyss
and entice and call on them not to go astray or to fall prey to My
adversary....
And how better can I show My love for My living creations than by My
direct communication, by revelations which explain Me and My Being and which,
being divine truth, can only be experienced by the human soul as extremely
effective and strengthens it for its earthly pilgrimage. Because I Am
motivated by My love towards My living creations who live on earth as human
beings
in order to return to Me and who can only reach that goal when I Myself
give them the strength to do so, when I nourish them with the bread from
heaven and the water of life.... with My Word....
And people refuse to understand this act of love and hence also decline My
valuable gift of grace.... They are not alive and also remain faithful to
the lifeless form of Christianity, because they lack the strength of faith
for as long as they lack love, which would provide them with the right
concept of Me, of My Being, which is love, wisdom and power.... And love will
give itself time and again, and it will give to those who are weak but of
good will everything they need to successfully complete their pilgrimage on
earth.... Time and again My love will show itself because it also wants to
be loved by those who originated from My love and who have to unite with Me
again forever....
Amen

The Supreme Climb

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 11th

He said, ’Take now your son . . .’ —Genesis 22:2

God’s command is, "Take now," not later. It is incredible how we debate! We know
something is right, but we try to find excuses for not doing it immediately. If
we are to climb to the height God reveals, it can never be done later— it must
be done now. And the sacrifice must be worked through our will before we
actually perform it.

"So Abraham rose early in the morning . . . and went to the place of which God
had told him" ( Genesis 22:3 ). Oh, the wonderful simplicity of Abraham! When
God spoke, he did not "confer with flesh and blood" (Galatians 1:16). Beware
when you want to "confer with flesh and blood" or even your own thoughts,
insights, or understandings— anything that is not based on your personal
relationship with God. These are all things that compete with and hinder
obedience to God.

Abraham did not choose what the sacrifice would be. Always guard against
self-chosen service for God. Self-sacrifice may be a disease that impairs your
service. If God has made your cup sweet, drink it with grace; or even if He has
made it bitter, drink it in communion with Him. If the providential will of God
means a hard and difficult time for you, go through it. But never decide the
place of your own martyrdom, as if to say, "I will only go to there, but no
farther." God chose the test for Abraham, and Abraham neither delayed nor
protested, but steadily obeyed. If you are not living in touch with God, it is
easy to blame Him or pass judgment on Him. You must go through the trial before
you have any right to pronounce a verdict, because by going through the trial
you learn to know God better. God is working in us to reach His highest goals
until His purpose and our purpose become one.

Evening... References:-->Isaiah 33:16
His place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him;
his waters shall be sure. Do you doubt, O Christian, do you doubt as to whether
God will fulfil His promise? Shall the munitions of rock be carried by storm? O
Shall the storehouses of heaven fail? Do you think that your heavenly Father,
though He knoweth that you have need of food and raiment, will yet forget you?
When not a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father, and the very hairs
of your head are all numbered, will you mistrust and doubt Him? Perhaps your
affliction will continue upon you till you dare to trust your God, and then it
shall end. Full many there be who have been tried and sore vexed till at last
they have been driven in sheer desperation to exercise faith in God, and the
moment of their faith has been the instant of their deliverance; they have seen
whether God would keep His promise or not. Oh, I pray you, doubt Him no longer!
Please not Satan, and vex not yourself by indulging any more those hard thoughts
of God. Think it not a light matter to doubt Jehovah. Remember, it is a sin; and
not a little sin either, but in the highest degree criminal. The angels never
doubted Him, nor the devils either: we alone, out of all the beings that God has
fashioned, dishonour Him by unbelief, and tarnish His honour by mistrust. Shame
upon us for this! Our God does not deserve to be so basely suspected; in our
past life we have proved Him to be true and faithful to His word, and with so
many instances of His love and of His kindness as we have received, and are
daily receiving, at His hands, it is base and inexcusable that we suffer a doubt
to sojourn within our heart. May we henceforth wage constant war against doubts
of our God-enemies to our peace and to His honour; and with an unstaggering
faith believe that what He has promised He will also perform. "Lord, I believe,
help Thou mine unbelief."November 10

Morning... References:-->Deuteronomy 33:27
The eternal God is thy refuge. The word refuge may be translated "mansion," or
"abiding-place," which gives the thought that God is our abode, our home. There
is a fulness and sweetness in the metaphor, for dear to our hearts is our home,
although it be the humblest cottage, or the scantiest garret; and dearer far is
our blessed God, in whom we live, and move, and have our being. It is at home
that we feel safe: we shut the world out and dwell in quiet security. So when we
are with our God we "fear no evil." He is our shelter and retreat, our abiding
refuge. At home, we take our rest; it is there we find repose after the fatigue
and toil of the day. And so our hearts find rest in God, when, wearied with
life's conflict, we turn to Him, and our soul dwells at ease. At home, also, we
let our hearts loose; we are not afraid of being misunderstood, nor of our words
being misconstrued. So when we are with God we can commune freely with Him,
laying open all our hidden desires; for if the "secret of the Lord is with them
that fear Him," the secrets of them that fear Him ought to be, and must be, with
their Lord. Home, too, is the place of our truest and purest happiness: and it
is in God that our hearts find their deepest delight. We have joy in Him which
far surpasses all other joy. It is also for home that we work and labour. The
thought of it gives strength to bear the daily burden, and quickens the fingers
to perform the task; and in this sense we may also say that God is our home.
Love to Him strengthens us. We think of Him in the person of His dear Son; and a
glimpse of the suffering face of the Redeemer constrains us to labour in His
cause. We feel that we must work, for we have brethren yet to be saved, and we
have our Father's heart to make glad by bringing home His wandering sons; we
would fill with holy mirth the sacred family among whom we dwell. Happy are
those who have thus the God of Jacob for their refuge! Genesis 1:1(1) In the
beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
Even before leaving the first verse, a serious student of the Bible is
confronted with a difficulty—unless he is willing to believe what the Bible
consistently shows from the beginning to the end. The fourth word in the Bible
is "God," Elohim in Hebrew. But that takes some explaining. Elohim is
God—plural. "In the beginning Gods created the heaven and the earth." For an
English-speaking person, this is confirmed in Genesis 1:26, where the
translators finally used plural pronouns to conform to the plural noun
antecedent, Elohim.
The translators recognized in verse 26 that Elohim—"God"—was speaking to
somebody, and He was speaking to someone who was just like Him, which is why the
word Us is used. They were forced into using a plural pronoun. "Let Us make man
in Our image." In fact, Elohim is used 66 times in a row at the beginning of the
Bible before any other Hebrew word is translated into the English "God." That
occurs in Genesis 6:5 when finally another word is used for God.
Someone reading this beginning in Hebrew would have to be impressed that the
author of this book was trying to get something across to the reader that "Gods"
(plural) did everything—not an individual but a least two. Elohim is used in the
Old Testament 2,570 times, and every usage is plural—"Gods."
As shown by this plurality, the God Family clearly consists of more than one
Being, or more than one Person or Personality.

Have You Told A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 10th

. . . fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ . . . —1 Thessalonians 3:2

After sanctification, it is difficult to state what your purpose in life is,
because God has moved you into His purpose through the Holy Spirit. He is using
you now for His purposes throughout the world as He used His Son for the purpose
of our salvation. If you seek great things for yourself, thinking, "God has
called me for this and for that," you barricade God from using you. As long as
you maintain your own personal interests and ambitions, you cannot be completely
aligned or identified with God’s interests. This can only be accomplished by
giving up all of your personal plans once and for all, and by allowing God to
take you directly into His purpose for the world. Your understanding of your
ways must also be surrendered, because they are now the ways of the Lord.

I must learn that the purpose of my life belongs to God, not me. God is using me
from His great personal perspective, and all He asks of me is that I trust Him.
I should never say, "Lord, this causes me such heartache." To talk that way
makes me a stumbling block. When I stop telling God what I want, He can freely
work His will in me without any hindrance. He can crush me, exalt me, or do
anything else He chooses. He simply asks me to have absolute faith in Him and
His goodness. Self-pity is of the devil, and if I wallow in it I cannot be used
by God for His purpose in the world. Doing this creates for me my own cozy
"world within the world," and God will not be allowed to move me from it because
of my fear of being "frost-bitten."

Evening... References:-->Mark 14:14
The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with
My disciples? Jerusalem at the time of the passover was one great inn; each
householder had invited his own friends, but no one had invited the Saviour, and
He had no dwelling of His own. It was by His own supernatural power that He
found Himself an upper room in which to keep the feast. It is so even to this
day-Jesus is not received among the sons of men save only where by His
supernatural power and grace He makes the heart anew. All doors are open enough
to the prince of darkness, but Jesus must clear a way for Himself or lodge in
the streets. It was through the mysterious power exerted by our Lord that the
householder raised no question, but at once cheerfully and joyfully opened his
guestchamber. Who he was, and what he was, we do not know, but he readily
accepted the honour which the Redeemer proposed to confer upon him. In like
manner it is still discovered who are the Lord's chosen, and who are not; for
when the gospel comes to some, they fight against it, and will not have it, but
where men receive it, welcoming it, this is a sure indication that there is a
secret work going on in the soul, and that God has chosen them unto eternal
life. Are you willing, dear reader, to receive Christ? then there is no
difficulty in the way; Christ will be your guest; His own power is working with
you, making you willing. What an honour to entertain the Son of God! The heaven
of heavens cannot contain Him, and yet He condescends to find a house within our
hearts! We are not worthy that He should come under our roof, but what an
unutterable privilege when He condescends to enter! for then He makes a feast,
and causes us to feast with Him upon royal dainties, we sit at a banquet where
the viands are immortal, and give immortality to those who feed thereon. Blessed
among the sons of Adam is he who entertains the angels' Lord.November 9

Morning... References: -->Colossians 2:6
So walk ye in Him. If we have received Christ Himself in our inmost hearts, our
new life will manifest its intimate acquaintance with Him by a walk of faith in
Him. Walking implies action. Our religion is not to be confined to our closet;
we must carry out into practical effect that which we believe. If a man walks in
Christ, then he so acts as Christ would act; for Christ being in him, his hope,
his love, his joy, his life, he is the reflex of the image of Jesus; and men say
of that man, "He is like his Master; he lives like Jesus Christ." Walking
signifies progress. "So walk ye in Him"; proceed from grace to grace, run
forward until you reach the uttermost degree of knowledge that a man can attain
concerning our Beloved. Walking implies continuance. There must be a perpetual
abiding in Christ. How many Christians think that in the morning and evening
they ought to come into the company of Jesus, and may then give their hearts to
the world all the day: but this is poor living; we should always be with Him,
treading in His steps and doing His will. Walking also implies habit. When we
speak of a man's walk and conversation, we mean his habits, the constant tenour
of his life. Now, if we sometimes enjoy Christ, and then forget Him; sometimes
call Him ours, and anon lose our hold, that is not a habit; we do not walk in
Him. We must keep to Him, cling to Him, never let Him go, but live and have our
being in Him. "As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him";
persevere in the same way in which ye have begun, and, as at the first Christ
Jesus was the trust of your faith, the source of your life, the principle of
your action, and the joy of your spirit, so let Him be the same till life's end;
the same when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and enter into
the joy and the rest which remain for the people of God. O Holy Spirit, enable
us to obey this heavenly precept.

Galatians 2:17-21 (New King James Version) Change American Standard Version
Amplified® Bible Contemporary English Version Darby English Version Good News
Bible King James Version New International Version New King James Version
Young's Literal Translation

(17) “But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are
found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! (18) For if
I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. (19)
For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. (20) I have been
crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and
the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave Himself for me. (21) I do not set aside the grace of God; for
if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
Copyright © 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.Justification is clearly an act of God's
grace, because what we deserve from what we have earned—from what we have done,
the conduct of our lives—is death. There is none righteous, no not one (Romans
3:10; Psalm 14:1). Since justification, then, cannot be claimed as a right
because we have sinned, it must be received as a gift. That fact that it is
given makes it an act of grace.
It is not our hanging on to Christ (that is, the keeping of the law) that saves
us, but rather Christ hanging on to us. That is, it is not what we do, but it is
what He does continuously as acts of grace that saves us, because we deserve
death. If we can earn salvation through law-keeping, Paul is saying in verse 21,
"then Christ died in vain." If we can earn salvation through law-keeping, then
Christ's sinless life and agonizing death were not necessary, because we can do
it ourselves.
Justification is not vindication or exoneration. Both of those words connote
that a person was right all along, but the true facts were hidden from those who
were doing the judging. In some cases with men, vindication is possible because
people are judged unrighteously. Their judges are not using righteous judgment.
But God never judges unrighteously! He knows all the facts. He knows our heart.
He knows everything about us in every situation that we have ever been in, so He
cannot vindicate us because we are not clear of guilt. He cannot exonerate us
because we are not innocent. Justification is more than that. It is setting us
right or calling us righteous though righteousness does not exist in us.

Tell A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 9th

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking
in the afflictions of Christ . . . —Colossians 1:24

The Christian worker has to be a sacred "go-between." He must be so closely
identified with his Lord and the reality of His redemption that Christ can
continually bring His creating life through him. I am not referring to the
strength of one individual’s personality being superimposed on another, but the
real presence of Christ coming through every aspect of the worker’s life. When
we preach the historical facts of the life and death of our Lord as they are
conveyed in the New Testament, our words are made sacred. God uses these words,
on the basis of His redemption, to create something in those who listen which
otherwise could never have been created. If we simply preach the effects of
redemption in the human life instead of the revealed, divine truth regarding
Jesus Himself, the result is not new birth in those who listen. The result is a
refined religious lifestyle, and the Spirit of God cannot witness to it because
such preaching is in a realm other than His. We must make sure that we are
living in such harmony with God that as we proclaim His truth He can create in
others those things which He alone can do.

When we say, "What a wonderful personality, what a fascinating person, and what
wonderful insight!" then what opportunity does the gospel of God have through
all of that? It cannot get through, because the attraction is to the messenger
and not the message. If a person attracts through his personality, that becomes
his appeal. If, however, he is identified with the Lord Himself, then the appeal
becomes what Jesus Christ can do. The danger is to glory in men, yet Jesus says
we are to lift up only Him (see John 12:32).

Evening... References:-->Acts 1:8
And ye shall be witnesses unto Me. In order to learn how to discharge your duty
as a witness for Christ, look at His example. He is always witnessing: by the
well of Samaria, or in the Temple of Jerusalem: by the lake of Gennesaret, or on
the mountain's brow. He is witnessing night and day; His mighty prayers are as
vocal to God as His daily services. He witnesses under all circumstances;
Scribes and Pharisees cannot shut His mouth; even before Pilate He witnesses a
good confession. He witnesses so clearly, and distinctly that there is no
mistake in Him. Christian, make your life a clear testimony. Be you as the brook
wherein you may see every stone at the bottom-not as the muddy creek, of which
you only see the surface-but clear and transparent, so that your heart's love to
God and man may be visible to all. You need not say, "I am true:" be true. Boast
not of integrity, but be upright. So shall your testimony be such that men
cannot help seeing it. Never, for fear of feeble man, restrain your witness.
Your lips have been warmed with a coal from off the altar; let them speak as
like heaven-touched lips should do. "In the morning sow thy seed, and in the
evening withhold not thine hand." Watch not the clouds, consult not the wind-in
season and out of season witness for the Saviour, and if it shall come to pass
that for Christ's sake and the gospel's you shall endure suffering in any shape,
shrink not, but rejoice in the honour thus conferred upon you, that you are
counted worthy to suffer with your Lord; and joy also in this-that your
sufferings, your losses, and persecutions shall make you a platform, from which
the more vigorously and with greater power you shall witness for Christ Jesus.
Study your great Exemplar, and be filled with His Spirit. Remember that you need
much teaching, much upholding, much grace, and much humility, if your witnessing
is to be to your Master's glory.November 8

Morning... References: -->Colossians 2:6
As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord. The life of faith is represented as
receiving- an act which implies the very opposite of anything like merit. It is
simply the acceptance of a gift. As the earth drinks in the rain, as the sea
receives the streams, as night accepts light from the stars, so we, giving
nothing, partake freely of the grace of God. The saints are not, by nature,
wells, or streams, they are but cisterns into which the living water flows; they
are empty vessels into which God pours His salvation. The idea of receiving
implies a sense of realization, making the matter a reality. One cannot very
well receive a shadow; we receive that which is substantial: so is it in the
life of faith, Christ becomes real to us. While we are without faith, Jesus is a
mere name to us-a person who lived a long while ago, so long ago that His life
is only a history to us now! By an act of faith Jesus becomes a real person in
the consciousness of our heart. But receiving also means grasping or getting
possession of. The thing which I receive becomes my o wn: I appropriate to
myself that which is given. When I receive Jesus, He becomes my Saviour, so mine
that neither life nor death shall be able to rob me of Him. All this is to
receive Christ-to take Him as God's free gift; to realize Him in my heart, and
to appropriate Him as mine. Salvation may be described as the blind receiving
sight, the deaf receiving hearing, the dead receiving life; but we have not only
received these blessings, we have received CHRIST JESUS Himself. It is true that
He gave us life from the dead. He gave us pardon of sin; He gave us imputed
righteousness. These are all precious things, but we are not content with them;
we have received Christ Himself. The Son of God has been poured into us, and we
have received Him, and appropriated Him. What a heartful Jesus must be, for
heaven itself cannot contain Him!

Young's Literal Translation

(31) “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— (32) not
according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took
them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they
broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. (33) But this is the
covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the
LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will
be their God, and they shall be My people. (34) No more shall every man teach
his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all
shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD.
For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Jeremiah 31:31-34 provides an encouraging conclusion to the saga of Israel and
Judah once they have repented and returned to the land. These verses, quoted in
Hebrews 8:8-12 and 10:16-17, show that this is the same covenant that the church
has already made with God. Rather than doing away with the law of God, the New
Covenant gives the people the means, not merely to obey it, but to accept it and
make it a part of their lives. God will give the people of Israel and Judah new
hearts, and they will finally be able to follow God consistently and have real
relationships with Him. God will forgive their sins, and Israel will finally
begin to be the witness to the rest of the world that God intended her to be
(see Deuteronomy 4:5-8; Isaiah 62:1-2).
Even though God makes this covenant primarily with Israel and Judah (Jeremiah
31:31), it is not exclusive. Through Isaiah, God shows that Gentiles who submit
themselves to Him can and will also make this covenant. Of particular interest
is the requirement that the Sabbath be kept by those wishing to do this (Isaiah
56:1-2, 6-8).
Ezekiel 11:17, 19-21 foretells of Israel and Judah receiving from God a new
heart—a spiritual heart that will enable them to keep His commandments and
statutes.
Throughout its history, the essential difficulty in Israel's relationship with
God has been one of the heart. God exclaims, "Oh, that they [Israel] had such a
heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that
it might be well with them and with their children forever!" (Deuteronomy 5:29).
In Hebrews 3:10, God again identifies this problem: "Therefore I was angry with
that generation, and said, 'They always go astray in their heart, and they have
not known My ways'" (emphasis ours throughout).
The heart or spirit of a man is the center of his thought, reason, and
motivation. Because of human nature, the natural—unconverted—heart is "deceitful
above all things, and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). It has an innate,
powerful pull toward the self, always making evaluations based on what it
perceives as good for the individual regardless of the effect on others.
Humanity has had approximately 6,000 years of such self-centered and destructive
living, proving that man is simply unable to govern himself for very long. He
needs direction and leadership from another—divine—source.
The Old Covenant that God made with Israel was a good agreement as far as it
went, because all of God's works are good. The problem was not with its terms,
but with the people who made it (Hebrews 8:7-8, 10). They lacked the right heart
that would have allowed them to follow God truly and obey His laws. God, though,
will give a new heart—a new spirit—to repentant Israelites, along with any
others who desire to covenant with Him.
This "new spirit" is the Spirit of God—the Holy Spirit (see also Jeremiah
32:37-42; Ezekiel 36:26-27; 37:14; 39:29; Joel 2:28-29). It is the same Spirit
that Jesus told His disciples they would receive, the power that would allow
them—through their words and especially through the conduct of their lives—to be
witnesses of God (Acts 1:8; see Luke 24:49). It is a Spirit "of power and of
love and of a sound mind" (II Timothy 1:7)—a mind that is balanced because God's
concerns reside at its core. It is a mind inclined to obey God and to seek Him
as the only Source of true solutions in a world that does not have the means or
inclination to live in a way that is good for everybody and good eternally.
As Israel becomes God's model nation, due to her new heart and Spirit, the rest
of the world will see that God's way—including His commandments, statutes, and
judgments—produce peace and abundance. It is the nature of God's laws that,
because of their Source, they bring good, prosperity, health, abundance, peace,
and contentment (Deuteronomy 4:5-8). Yet, it takes the same spirit—heart—as the
Lawgiver for one to understand and keep the laws in their true spiritual intent.

The Unrivaled Power of Prayer

Tell A Friend or Loved One About: "How's It Going? :-)))™"

Knowing, Believing, & Trusting In God's Word Is The Beginning of the
Eternal Relationship...

November 8th

We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered —Romans 8:26

We realize that we are energized by the Holy Spirit for prayer; and we know what
it is to pray in accordance with the Spirit; but we don’t often realize that the
Holy Spirit Himself prays prayers in us which we cannot utter ourselves. When we
are born again of God and are indwelt by the Spirit of God, He expresses for us
the unutterable.

"He," the Holy Spirit in you, "makes intercession for the saints according to
the will of God" (Romans 8:27). And God searches your heart, not to know what
your conscious prayers are, but to find out what the prayer of the Holy Spirit
is.

The Spirit of God uses the nature of the believer as a temple in which to offer
His prayers of intercession. ". . . your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit .
. ." (1 Corinthians 6:19). When Jesus Christ cleansed the temple, ". . . He
would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple" (Mark 11:16). The
Spirit of God will not allow you to use your body for your own convenience.
Jesus ruthlessly cast out everyone who bought and sold in the temple, and said,
"My house shall be called a house of prayer . . . . But you have made it a ’den
of thieves’ " (Mark 11:17).

Have we come to realize that our "body is the temple of the Holy Spirit"? If so,
we must be careful to keep it undefiled for Him. We have to remember that our
conscious life, even though only a small part of our total person, is to be
regarded by us as a "temple of the Holy Spirit." He will be responsible for the
unconscious part which we don’t know, but we must pay careful attention to and
guard the conscious part for which we are responsible.

Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. These prayer
points from Open Doors USA, a ministry that’s committed to encouraging
persecuted Christians, can help guide us as we pray:

• Pray for the safety and faith of the secret believers in countries where it is
illegal to share about Christ.

• Pray for the health, perseverance, and encouragement of believers who are
imprisoned for the gospel.

• Pray that those whose loved ones have died due to martyrdom will rely on God
for their strength.

Together, let’s bring our fellow believers before the Lord in prayer. — Anne
Cetas
