The Louisiana Surnames Louisiana Researchers database has been imported to the
Yahoo Group so that members can can add their surnames to the group as well as

Here are the updated URL's for the Google Custom Search Engines for Louisiana
Genealogy that will search for surnames in groups, newspapers, USGenWeb and
LAGenWeb.

You may try to search group messages through the custom search engine available in the files section. I'm not certain of its viability - but I was able to search a few group messages this way today.
Civil War ancestor from New Orleans Saturday, November 22, 2008 8:10 PM From: I
have looked high and low for info on Wm. F. Perry who joined the
infantry for La. during the Civil War. He apparently was born in
Maryland, but was residing in New Orleans during the war. He enlisted
at Camp Moore in 1861 and I do have from Footnote.com and family
(verbal) history the battles he was in, including Gettysburg where he
was severely wounded (he had an arm amputation after that battle). But
what I am trying to find is why he was in N.O. since he was from
Maryland and whom his parents were (both listed as from MD. in census
info he gave in years after the war). He for some reason moved to
Columbus, Georgia after the Civil War. Here he worked as a clerk in a
dry goods store and married in 1870 to a Mittie Bussey (I know through
fam history as Mattie Elizabeth Bussey). I am searching for any info or
family out there with a history of Perrys from Md. to Louisiana. Thanks
for any info.

The database on the Louisiana Genealogy Blog Yahoo Group is totally operational,
unlike the group message search feature. The message search has been broken
since the announcement earlier this year that it would "migrate" to a new
server. After that announcement, group message search FAILED in this group. It
was not broken previous to the announcement. So I suppose that it is GOOD NEWS
that not everything is broken! There are well over 7,000 surnames in the
database from several different groups. Please take the time to give it a whirl
and search for your surnames - then join the group hosting your surname and find
your possible contact! You never know when someone researching your same surname
may have found extra information that is YOURS.
It doesn't hurt to ask.
Have a great weekend~
I don't know about you all, but I'm excited about the SAINTS GAME coming up!
Who Dat!
Message search: We know we're long overdue for a lengthy post about this, but
the short story is, we're currently waiting on new hardware that will support
all of the messages and groups on the Yahoo! Groups system. In the meantime we
are slowly moving over a small amount of groups each week to the new message
search system. We know that you all have been incredibly patient with us– this
is greatly appreciated.
Sorry genealogy folks. That was my blog newsletter - Louisiana Book
News. I don't know how that happened. Even the message at the bottom
was from some spam that came to me.
My apologies.

One Penny Time hosts multi-author book signing on November 7
In honor of National Bookstore Day on Saturday, November 7,
One Penny Time bookstore in West Monroe will host a multi-author book
signing and open house from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Local author Beth Cornelison
will be joined by former West Monroe resident Connie Cox, as well as
Shreveport authors Lenora Worth and Winnie Griggs.
Publishers Weekly, in conjunction with sister publications
and the BookLife network, is promoting National Bookstore Day as a way to
celebrate the 'vibrant culture' of bookstores and raise the visibility of
retail bookstores nationwide.
"One Penny Time is an independent, locally-owned bookstore
that carries books and gifts primarily for children and teens, but the
owner, Linda Hill, has been tremendously supportive of local authors,
including me," Cornelison said. "National Bookstore Day is a great idea.
Books are inexpensive entertainment and a reflection of our society. Because
of books like Twilight and the Harry Potter series, young people are
becoming readers again. In a time when everything is becoming so hurried and
going online, it is great to know there are still small businesses like One
Penny Time that contribute to the community and put customer service first."
Cornelison will be signing copies of her newest romantic
suspense novels, Under Fire, Healing Luke, and The Christmas Stranger, and
she will donate a portion of her proceeds from the book signing to regional
literacy programs. Previous novels by Cornelison have won national honors
including the Golden Heart award, presented by the Romance Writers of
America, and a nomination for the Reviewers Choice Award from Romantic Times
Book Reviews Magazine.
"I've always loved to write adventure stories," Cornelison
said. "My first book was hand-written when I was in elementary school, and I
haven't stopped creating characters or plot twists since. Because I love
fairy tales and happy endings, adding romance elements to my suspense books
was a natural fit for me. I really think I have the best job in the world!"
Cornelison received her bachelor's degree in Public
Relations from the University of Georgia. In 1990, after working in public
relations for Life Care Centers of America, she moved with her husband to
West Monroe and pursued her love of writing fiction. For more information
about Beth Cornelison's books, visit her website at www.bethcornelison. com.
Connie Cox will sign her contemporary romance, Taking
Flight, which was a Golden Heart finalist in 2007 and a 2008 Romantic Times
Reviewers Choice finalist.
"My debut novel Taking Flight is near and dear to my heart,"
Cox said. "It's set in West Monroe where I lived for eight years. I worked
as an electrical engineer for LP&L, and my husband and I raised our daughter
there."
Lenora Nazworth, who writes inspirational romance and
romantic suspense as Lenora Worth, has been a columnist for the Shreveport
Times and SB Magazine until recent months when she decided to devote herself
full-time to her novels. Author of more than forty books for three different
publishers, Worth has won both regional and national awards for her writing
and has over one million books in print.
Life-long Louisiana resident Winnie Griggs writes
heartwarming historical romance while serving on the board of directors of
the North Louisiana StoryTellers and Authors of Romance (NOLA STARs), a
chapter of the Romance Writers of America.
"NOLA STARs is an active group of published and
pre-published authors who meet monthly at the Bossier Library History Center
to discuss writing projects, study the publishing industry and learn about
the craft of writing," Griggs said. "Anyone interested in learning more
about fiction writing is welcome to visit a meeting."
At the book signing on November 7th, Griggs will sign her
October 2009 release, The Christmas Journey.
"Romance books remain the most popular form of commercial
fiction in the U.S. largely because there is something for everyone under
the romance umbrella," Cornelison said.
More information about the NOLA STARs writers group is
available at www.nolastars. com. Interested readers can find out more about
National Bookstore Day or the multi-author book signing by calling One Penny
Time at 396-5553 or visiting the store at 4624 Cypress Street in West
Monroe.

Will do, Chere. I certainly understand being swamped with work -- that's a
familiar feeling! We recently switched webmasters and totally reformatted
our website www.margaretmedia. com. Now I can go into it directly and change,
add and delete things, which is wonderful! Plus customers now pay with
credit card directly to my business account rather than having to go through
Paypal. We'll see how it works for increasing sales.
Enjoy the lovely weather we're having and take time to sniff the
chrysanthemums!
