For something interesting, at least to me. Check out Scientific
American's article on "8,000 years of global warming." It says that
we would have entered a new ice age about 5,000 years ago except for
the warming activity caused by human agriculture. Then the world
climate stayed relitively stable until recently. Global warming is
heating up due to fossil fuel use and we are about to experience a
global heat pulse. So the Long Count pretty much exactly covers the
the time form when we prevented the onset of the last ice age to now
when we are in for another climate shift.
