I have a feeling that certain groups of people will
realize that you have to live within the limits of
your local resources. The Earth's climate will shift
at the around the same time we start running low on
oil. This will cause economic and societal collapse.
But.. that is not all that bad.

Small groups of survivors will have to rebuild, but
they will posess the knowledge of our "modern"
society. Society (not civilization) will be rebuilt
in way that is compatable with the natural laws. This
will cause a shift in global consciousness. Humans
have survived many other climate shifts, in fact,
William H. Calvin wrote a book called Human Evolution
and Abrupt Climate Change.

Evolution works in a very simple manner. The
population grows to a certain size. The diversity in
the population through mutations creates a wide range
in a species. Then, through a funneling action or a
large die off, a certain trait is the only one that
survives, creating a shift in evolution.

I am hoping that cooperatism/mutualism is the trait
that survives the next collapse.

P.s.- The Mayan calendar seems to be able to predict
the 5,200 year climate shifts, due to solar input.
The Mayan/Aztec calendar is really from the Olmecs,
which seem to have learned it from the Egyptians, who
took it from the Berbers, who are possibly the people
of Atlantis. It's fun to search for the connections
on the internet anyway...
