Yes, exactly, strangers...
Crime is created from too large of a societal group.
What we have in society is a disconnect with our
neighbors.
From Psychology, Ideology, Utopia, and the Commons:
The larger our societies become the more machine-like
they become, and the greater the alienation of the
population. The failure of social scientists to
seriously question their own ideological and
methodological assumptions contributes to the complex
interrelationship between global ecological and
individual psychological problems. Much of the
literature on the tragedy of the commons focuses on
saving the global commons through increased
centralization and regulation, at the expense of the
individual's autonomy and psychological sense of
community.
The ideal of Democracy as a political system is great.
A more Democratic, cooperative, cleaner, safer world
where we the people, not the corporations, make the
decisions that affect our lives would be even better.
Unfortunately what we have is 1% of the population
convincing 51% of the population to oppress the other
49%. The authors of the Constitution never could have
predicted abortion, gay rights, corporate pollution,
and gun control would be huge issues. That is why
Democracy must be more adaptive to individual rights.
What we need is a Democracy from the ground up. One
that put the rights of smaller groups over the rights
of larger, more bureaucratic groups like organized
religion or state power.
"If all men are created equal, why must I still answer
to others?"
In biology, mutualism is an interaction between two
species in which both organisms derive some degree of
benefit. Mutualism can involve brief or long-term
interactions (pollination versus lichen symbiosis
between fungus and alga) and may or may not be
obligatory for one or both partners. For example,
bacteria known as rhizobia can reproduce either in the
soil or in (usually) mutualistic symbiosis with legume
plants.
Mutualism is the form of Anarchism described by
Pierre-Joseph Proudhon.
Proudhon also claimed that "Property is impossible."
Although he was against capitalism, he rejected
communism and believed that individual possession —
which he distinguished from private property — was
necessary both for liberty and for an efficient
economy. Another one of his famous statements is that
"anarchy is order". This statement is believed by some
to be the source of the circled-A.
He adopted the term Mutualism for his brand of
anarchism, which involved control of the means of
production by the workers. In his vision self-employed
artisans, peasants and cooperatives would trade their
products on the market. He advocated non-capitalist
markets, markets without wage labor or private
property. Factories and other large workplaces would
be run by 'labor associations' operating on directly
democratic principles. The state would be abolished,
instead society would be organized by a federation of
'free communes' (community assemblies). In 1863
Proudhon said, "All my economic ideas as developed
over twenty-five years can be summed up in the words:
agricultural-industrial federation. All my political
ideas boil down to a similar formula: political
federation or decentralization." Proudhon rejected
violent revolution, favoring a gradual evolution of
society into anarchy.
A society organized on these principles would avoid
most of the evils we associate with capitalism. Labor
would keep most or all of what currently goes into
interest, profit and rent. The increased bargaining
power of labor would lead, not only to an increased
wage, but to much greater control over working
conditions.
Without subsidies to centralization and energy
consumption, the labor currently wasted on
distribution would be unnecessary to maintain the
existing standard of living. Production would be on a
much smaller, more efficient scale, and closer to
home. Population would be dispersed and less mobile,
and the extended family and stable local community
would be revived.
