Who am I?

I look in the mirror at the image staring back
at me,
I look for clues and pieces of my true
identity

The answers are hidden beneath lies and
deceit
The information I need to make my life
complete

Who are my parents, my brothers and sisters,
All hidden now in paperwork and whispers

Where did the blue eyes come from and
the dark hair and curls?
From some other life in some other world?

The story begins with a young mother and
child
And the facts are now hidden in adoption
files

The courts sealed the records and threw
away the key,
And locked up tight my identity

They can bury the facts and hide the
history
But they can't stop the desire and longing
in me

I just want to know all the hows and the
whys
But most important of all I want to know
"Who am I"

I will fight to the end with determination
and pride
The facts I will uncover and leave nothing
to hide

I will reveal the truth and unfold all of their
lies
Until I answer the question "Who am I"

I will reclaim my heritage that has now been
erased
The facts and the truth will have their own
place

My doubts will all be dissolved and I won't
have to ask why
I will know all the facts and will never again say
"Who am I"
