Siamosaurus was a genus of Spinosaurids that lived during the early part of the
Cretaceous period. Fossilized teeth of this dinosaur have been found in the Sao
Khu formation of Phu Wiang, Changwat Khan Kaen in Thailand. Buffetaut and
Ingavat named this species in 1986. The name Siamosaurus literally means
"Siamese lizard".
Siamosaurus may have had a sail-like projection on its back. It is classified as
a Spinosaurid and members of the family are thought to have had that feature.
[Note - Not all paleontologists agree that Siamosaurus is a Spinosaurid.]
Suchomimus was also a Spinosaurid. It lived in what is now the Sahara desert
portion of Niger. Other Spinosaurids, such as Baronyx, lived in Europe.
The teeth of Siamosaurus are cylindrical shaped and have grooves and ridges
along the row. This creature was apparently a fish eater. However, fish may have
not been all that it ate.

P.S. The taxonomy of Siamosaurus is:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Archosauria
Order: Saurischia
Family: Spinosauridae
Genus: Siamosaurus
Type species: Siamosaurus suteethorni
P.P.S. Some paleontologists think that Siamosaurus may have been a primitive
Tyrannosaurid. Fossils of a dinosaur called Siamotyrannus have also been
discovered in Thailand. I will discuss it in future postings.
