Here we are, fretting that DCA is not producing a new generation of adventurous
skippers to match the exploits of our old-timers. Then I see a website that is
for self-built boats whose homepage features pics of two boats reefed to
handkerchiefs in wind that cannot be even a f3.

The site explains that, `because of the constraints tidal conditions put on a
coastal meet' they favour `an inland stretch of water' for their rallies.

Wait a minute, what tidal constraints? It's the tides that give us our beloved
creek crawling. It's the tides that assist our coastal passages. It's the tides
that give us the challenges of shallow water crossings.

The boats I see on their site are capable of so much. Yet they are asked so
little.

And we think we've got problems?
