Aoa all members,

I am a Pakistani working in FACC AG  as an Analysis Engineer in Ried im Innkries, Austria. We work as supplier of composite solutions to different aircraft industries. I see many job opportunities on my company's website. For most of them German language is a preliminary requirement. However, for job as an Analysis Engineer, it is not necessary. It will be required that you have studied about composite materials and FEM. It will be advantageous for you to know about any FEM software, especially PATRAN7NASTRAN because we are working with it.

For all jobs visit following link:

Dear All,

Asalam'O Alaikum, I want to have your kind suggestions and guidance. I got an
offer from Chalmers for MS in Software Engineering. I want to ask following
questions.

1- What is the level of study at Chalmers in this area?

2- I got 75% fee waiver as they introduce fees now. But I want more reduction
because I can only support my other expenses in Sweden. I can not pay the fee. I
read that the grant can be up to 85% of the fee and I requested them to do. Are
there any more resources or areas from which I can get help in reducing this
financial burden of paying fee?

3- Please note that, I have done BE in IT and I also have an offer of Assistant
Manager post in some defense organization of Pakistan in Grade 17. Would you
people still suggest that I should come? As I heard that there are no jobs in
Sweden in any field. I heard this from almost a dozen people who study there.

4- Guys whom did Software Engineering can guide me much better as I will be
doing the same. One thing to notice that Chalmers inaugurated Software Center at
Lindholmen campus with the collaboration of Ericson,Volvo and Saab group, would
it create more opportunities for Software Engineers. I am concerned about good
job opportunities.

Please help me out. Thanking you all people in advance.

Mubashir Iqbal

Congratulations my friend for getting accepted at Chalmers with a fee wavier..:-)

Here are the answers to your questions to the best of my knowledge:

1- What is the level of study at Chalmers in this area?
The level of study is one of the best in Europe and globally as well due to strong industry/academia relation with global companies like Volvo,Ericsson & SAAB.
You can also get an idea by checking the number of research papers published by the university each year and the PhDs.

2- I got 75% fee waiver as they introduce fees now. But I want more reduction because I can only support my other expenses in Sweden. I can not pay the fee. I read that the grant can be up to 85% of the fee and I requested them to do. Are there any more resources or areas from which I can get help in reducing this financial burden of paying fee?
Well you are the lucky one who got 75% reduction already and I wish you good luck in getting more but I'm not quite sure about other sources, I would request my other friends here reading this mail to contribute if you know more on this.

3- Please note that, I have done BE in IT and I also have an offer of Assistant Manager post in some defense organization of Pakistan in Grade 17. Would you people still suggest that I should come? As I heard that there are no jobs in Sweden in any field. I heard this from almost a dozen people who study there.
Herez what I think, I have broken your question down to make it my point more clear:
Please note that, I have done BE in IT and I also have an offer of Assistant Manager post in some defense organization of Pakistan in Grade 17. Would you people still suggest that I should come?
It depends on how you see yourself in future, a civil servant with limited knowledge and doing clerical stuff (this is my perspective,u can differ ) or you want to aim for sky,
a place like Chalmers opens a whole new world of learning and practically prepares you to take on challenges in the industry with extensive opportunities to interact with industry professionals with global giants like Google,Ericsson, Volvo etc.

I myself left my job while working at a handsome salary in global company for my masters..:-)

4- Guys whom did Software Engineering can guide me much better as I will be doing the same. One thing to notice that Chalmers inaugurated Software Center at Lindholmen campus with the collaboration of Ericson,Volvo and Saab group, would it create more opportunities for Software Engineers. I am concerned about good job opportunities.
Yes they did and it would allow more student involvement especially at the thesis level as companies hunt students during their final year by offering paid thesis and a potential source for more job opportunities.

The good job opportunities depends on your networking skills and ability to socialize with academia/industry....be more involved in the student union activities, the have paid positions for students and also they keep on arranging workshops/seminars with the companies, you teachers are also a good source who invite people from industry for guest lectures...& also depends on how active you are in job hunt...chalmers provides career service as well to its students  https://student.portal.chalmers.se/sv/karriar-jobb/Careers-Service/Sidor/careers.aspx where you can see the job posting else you can also check regularly the job opportunities at the companies websites...I would advice you if you decide to come to rigorously search for part-time IT job as companies also offer part time work for students especially the startups & midsized companies.

However, an important thing is the language issue, if don't know the Swedish language it definitely limits your options so the the first you do if you come is get started with the language, Chalmers provides language courses to its International students ..watch out for that and also there are numerous other ways that can help you learn the language once you reach here.

I hope I have answered your questions.

Cheers,
Humayun Zia

WS,

I did my Masters in Software Engineering from Chalmers in year 2011.  I have returned to Pakistan after that not because I did not have job opportunities but because my family is in Pakistan.  Chalmers is a great place to learn and enhance your skills.  People who have IT skills generally find a job.  Collaboration of Chalmers with Ericsson, Volvo etc is a positve initiative for students.  If you can overcome your financial problems like payment of 15% of remianing fee, which I think still is nominal as compared to quality of education provided then I suggest in Chalmers is a great place.

Hopefully more people will reply to your e-mail on getting job, I remember some students even had manual jobs for time being.  You can check  with companies as a student to hire you if you have some IT skills.  Do browse through www.thelocal.se and see their Job advertisement to have an idea of skills.

Sweden is a good place to be, best in rest of Europe :).

I wish you good luck with your futrure!

Thank you

Dear All,
Be careful of a very common spam these days. Specially they are targeting those people who are in search of job. They usually send you a job offer and application is also attached. The package is usually very attractive with commission. They would tell you that an amount will be transferred to your account and you would just need to transfer that to another person through Western Union.
This sounds very easy but they would actually hack another bank account or credit card and send you the money from that account. Later when you would transfer that amount to a person through Western Union, you would not have any record to track that person. Whereas you would be considered as the criminal of that internet fraud because your account will appear in investigation for that fraud.

Please also let your all friends know before anyone get impacted by this fraud.

With Kind Regards,
Adeel
