The only guy I know that paddles an orange kayak is always stopping to “look for a tree.”  I guess that’s why they call him the Whizzer.

As far as being good with ladies, the only thing we know about that is he named his kayak after a lady.

Saturday was a beautiful Paddle into Rookery Bay. I was hanging out with Gib while he gave his tour to some tourists.
Gibb does a really great job. One lady wanted to see some houses --she was bored  (moron) she just doesn't get it.

Sunday was a practice day for me @ Clam Pass. The 1st hour I just practiced every move/skill I could think of. Then paddled 10 miles out in the gulf with a few dolphins. Stopped at the park on the gulf before I went into the pass to refill some water. As I was shoving off I heard my name & there was Laura Pactor swimming out to say hi.

Then before I got out to load the boat I did a 1/2 hour of sculling brace -- then sculling under water to upside down then sculling back up  catch a breath the down again-- and last  sculling down & rolling up--

THEN IT WAS EAT TIME & NAP TIME !!

David aka the Wizard

It was  a great paddle.  I hope to return to that area soon and reverse the route.   Indian key pass through “Lemans” to Picnic and Tiger east along the Gulf to Sandfly pass and back.

What do you think?

7 of us arrived early this morning  at the ranger station in Everglade city.  We paddled across the Bay and out Sandfly pass. passed Jewel Key,  Comer Key, Jack Daniels Key (darn no Jack Daniels there) then stopped at Jenkins key for a short swim.  It was really hot.  Then after a brief respite we headed over to Picnic Key passed Indian Key.  Diane and Joseph scared up some Manatees.  Although no monkeys were riding them.  Then another rest stop on Picnic Key, where we practiced some rolls with a little training for Diane and I.  Then we headed back through Indian Key pass.  All together we went about 17 miles.  It was a great group and a fun HOT paddle.  Thanks David Whitford for another good paddle.  After we got loaded up we headed across the street to The Oyster House.  All 7 of us discussed the up coming storms after some pitchers of beer.  Good conversation. I don't think I liked David's choice of beer very well.  Kinda coated my tongue.  But a beer was sure appreciated after that hot fun day.  Then Chuck Wells and I tried the delicious Pineapple Cake.  Best part of the dinner.  Can't wait for our next adventure.

Excellent suggestion, Lisa.  A Blue Moon Paddle, the evening of Friday, August 31st (conditions permitting).  Sunset and Moonrise occur at approximately 7:45pm that evening.  If we leave from Capri, the tide should be going out until about 15 minutes after Sunset/Moonrise, and then start coming in.  The farther north we go up the coast of Collier County, the earlier the tide starts coming in.  Regardless of the put-in site, everyone interested should consider the safety hazards of a night paddle: You must have lights on your boat - a headlamp-strapped on LED is best; certain blood-sucking insects have been known to favor the night time for feeding...on YOU, so bring repellant; have the usual water and first aid supplies; be prepared to GET WET.  Things go bump in the night.  A dolphin intentionally rocked my boat with a strong, upward tail stroke, one full moon night, just as it slid along, against my port side.  Naturally, I wasn't afraid, or even startled, once I stopped screaming.  Wear your PFD.  Wear your PFD.  Wear your PFD.  Bring breadcrumbs, so you can leave them as you go and find your way back.  I'm game if you are, Lisa.  Anyone else?  If so, I'll post it, and lead it if you like.  Tom Long

Count me IN!! Everybody should bring some food, and their favorite adult beverage to share (the Ft Myers group has Sangria paddles, and everyone makes their own sangria, and we all sample each other's sangria), and when we get to our destination, we can have a big pig fest, uh, picnic, and then paddle back by the moonlight. What a plan!

Okay.  I'll lead it.  But we aren't camping and "sleeping it off" is not an option, so everyone should be aware that THIS leader is not interested in dealing with alcohol-induced poor judgement in a fellow paddler, so...KNOW YOUR LIMIT!  I'll post it  - Tom

Wait a minute!  I just realized that there is a Beach Bash that evening.  Let's forget about Isles of Capri for the Blue Moon Paddle, and just do it right off the 10th Ave South Beach.  That way we can get the best of both worlds.  We'll push off from the beach around 7:15pm.  Sunset/Moonrise are a half-hour later.  We'll paddle 74 miles out into the Gulf - or less than that - and then return to the beach.  Tom

Since when did Dave Whitford become such an i chatterbox? Must be a
slow summer in SW Florida. Diane and I send greetings from the heart
of wine country here in Sonoma County. Look us up if you're out this
way. We're just a short walk to the nearest tasting. Also, some fine
kayaking in Tomales Bay and Point Reyes. Also the Petaluma Paddling
Club, very similar in make up to PCPC.
Cheers!
Larry
Just kidding, Dave. Keep the news coming.

Friday Morning Early arrive at Lowdermilk Park, Naples, paddle away at 7am, one
hour down to Clam Pass, catch your breath, stretch on the beach, and paddle
back, back by 9 to 9:30, then split for work. Come enjoy the coolest part of the
day. Good forward stroke practice. I will have EPIC 18X and wing paddle but go
at a moderate pace as I try to figure out how this strange but wonderful paddle
works. Come join me. -- BOB LANGBAUER
