Language

It is important to note that language distribution among the six provinces in Western Visayas overrides political division.

Antique on the western coast of Panay is monolingual and speaks Kinaray-a. The adjacent towns of Aklan, near the border of Antique towards the north are Buruanga, Malay, Nabas and lbajay which share a language almost similar to Kinarav-a. On the southeastern part of the island of Panay, in the province of Iloilo, about 2/3 of Iloilo's 46 towns speak Kinaray-a. But on the northeastern coastal towns, after Iloilo City, with the exception of Leganes where pockets of households speak either Kinaray-a or Hiligaynon, the latter is spoken. These coastal towns are Zarraga, Dumangas, Anilao, Banate, Barotac Viejo, Ajuy, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Estancia, Balasan and Carles. A few Kinaray-a words, however, found their way in the Ilonggo-speaking Dumangasanon and Anilaonon. Capiz on the eastern part of Panay also speaks Hiligaynon except for some slight difference in inflection compared to Ilonggo speakers in Iloilo. The towns of Ivisan and Sapian of Capiz which are already near Aklan speak Ilonggo with some mixed Aklananon words. But the people of the interiormost town of Tapaz, Capiz, home of the mountain people, (Bukidnon) speak Kinaray-a with the few older folks retaining some Ligbok words.

Guimarasnons speak Kinaray-a and Ilonggo. Even migrant folk from southern Iloilo like Guimbal and Tigbauan speak Kinaray-a. But those coming from Barangay Navalas, Buenavista speak Ilonggo since the migrants come from Dumengas, Iloilo. A part of Dumangas near the mouth of the Iloilo port juts out towards Navalas making travel to Guimaras easy (10-15 minutes boat ride)."

as for pictures, medyo mahirap yun because what i've read is that these so-called people are those who speak the kinaray-a language...

Kiniray- a

- "kiniray-a" or "hiniraya" derived from the word "iraya"
meaning upstream, "ka" meaning "companion", with the in fixation "in"
meaning " to have undergone something"
- It is the language of the Antique and the upland parts of Ilo-
Ilo and Capiz
- It is implied as the mother of the mellifluous West Visayan
lingua franca, Hiligyanon (which is Ilongo), and the less well-known
child, Aklanon. (Leoncio Deriada)

HISTORY
- Antique once enjoyed the primacy among the realms carved out
in Panay by the 10 Bornean datu who bought the island fropm the Ati
King Marikudo and established the sakup of Hamtik, Aklan, and Irong-
irong. In Hamtik ruled the wisest among the chieftains, Datu
Sumakwel, whom Datu Puti appointed as one of the datus who formed the
Confederation of the Madya-as.
- Basically, in the Spanish Rule, the Antiquenos did remain as
a backwater of the colony. They did not really welcome Spanish rule.
When the revolutionary movement was launched, Panay became an active
area for Katipunan recruitment.
- During the American Colonization Period, the Americans did
not land a force in Hamtik until January 1900.
- A lasting legacy of the revolution to Antique is the Iglesia
Filipina Independente, which was founded by Gregorio Aglipay, Gen
Emilio Aguinaldo's Military Vicar General, and labor leader Isabelo
de los Reyes.
- Japanese Era: Antique became a mobilization center. Guerillas
operated freely there. Moreover, the Japanese were garrisoned for
most of the time in San Jose.
- IN GENERAL: Antique has kept a low profile in national
affairs yet they tend to support the opposition. its facilities has
prevented it from raising a decent standard of living despite of the
net surplus producer of sugar, rice, and other agricultural products

ECONOMY
- Antique occupies the western coast of Panay Island, and has an area
of 252,200 ha. The province consists of 14 coastal towns, three
inland towns and a municipal conglomerate of six islands called
Caluya. In this area where narrow plains comprise one sixth of the
area, two thirds are used for planting rice. The remaining one third
is utilized for other agricultural crops such as coffee, mango,
peanuts, and cassava. Fishing is the second occupation as they catch
bangus or milk fish fry and prawns. Copper mines in Semirara Island
and the marble quarries in Pandan and LIbertad are also considered
sources of income.
- while Kiniray-a has its historical boundaries in Antique and
themountain towns of Ilo Ilo, certain areas in Palawan, Negros, and
Mindanao may be designated as Kiniray- a domains.

Political System
- In Maragtas Tradition, Hamtik, and the other two sakup, Aklan
and Irong- Irong were governed by a code promulgated by Datu
Sumakwel. Edicts were announced through umalokohan (town crier)
- The datu enforced the code and his edicts by a system of
punishment wherein violation to the code would lead to fines,
ordeals, and exposure to ants.
- -Kiniray- a speaking people (Sulod) who live in central Panay
island bounded on the north by the FaganghinSiya mountain ranges, on
the south by the IggabunTigaylo ranges, on the east by Mt. Raoy, and
on the west by Agburi-Mayuqui-Takayan ridges.
- There are no election of officers but rather, appointment of
officers depends on the people who render service to the community
such as baylan, mirku, husay(mediates serious problems in the
community), timabng( old members of the community)and the parangkutan
(ambularyo)

SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS AND CUSTOMS
- arranged marriage but there is a formal asking of a girl's
hand in marriage ( pamalaye)… panghagad- engagement period
- such customs such as during the wedding, the veil must not be
drop else it would lead to an unhappy match, whose candle burns out
faster will die first, and before they reside in their new home, a
happy couple must sleep there the previous night to bring in marital
bliss
- solidity of marriage deoends in the couple's offspring
- -sulod customs allow polygyny for those who can afford it.
Wither way, the husband must ask the first wife's consent before
engaging in to such commitments.
- Burial practices include the ritual questioning of the dead
to inquire as to the cause of death. Corpse placed on the coffin on
that has carvings on the sides and cover.
- Two or three months after the burial the bones of the
deceased are removed, washed, and wrapped in a balck cloth called
baghek. Then, they are placed in ancient burial jars along with their
ancestors. The remains are kept by the eldest sin of the daughter and
are passed on to the next generation. The pararigos is done by the
family members in the nearest stream three days before the deceased
is buried. The bilasyon, or rituals which serve as novena for the
dead, begins in the evening of the burial. During the bilasyon, games
susch as bordon, kabatingan are played.
- In terms of social values, they are respectful to both old
and young. There is a marked emphasis on courtesy and respect in
speech as they address the old as lola, lolo, tio, tia, nanay, tatay.
For nonrelatives, they address the older generation as "manding"
or "manang' for females. In males, they call them as "manong." A
distinctive custom in Antique is the belief that it is rude to
address a younger person with out attaching his or her pet name. For
females, it may be Nening, Nene, Inday, Diding, or Acay. For males,
it may be Nonoy, Dodong, or Dodoy. Only parents have the right to
drop the pet name and only when they are admonishing their child for
some transgression.
- The value of dagyawonay , that is likened to bayanihan , is
held sacred for this tribe.
- It is believed that there are three brother deities who
determine the life and death cycles. The eldest visits every newly
born infant and converses with it to decide on its life span and the
manner of its death

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AND PRACTICES
- They believe in engkatu, fairies, and other supernatural spirits.
It has been said that the province of Anqiue has been a place of the
aswang or maranhig. The aswang has a double, and can appear or change
form easily. On the other hand, the maranhig cannot cross a stream;
otherwise it will turn into a worm. These spirits are said to be the
cause of the illnesses and evils that befall them.
- magical practices can be studied in relation to their survival

TIBOLI myths religion literature

MYTHS
RELIGION
Bulon La Mogaw for the Tiboli.GOD
Only a few tiboli are Christian or Islamite. More than 95 percent of
the tiboliepeople stil has their animistic religion. They wre hardly
influenced by the spread of the islam on the island. The Spaniards
too didn't succedd to christianze the tiboli during the Spanish
colonial period. Main reason was that the tiboli withdrew to the
hinterlands in the uplands. The tiboli and members of other
indigenous tirbes like the Higaunon still believe in spirits wh line
on several places in the nautral environment,.
The families usually arrange marriages after lengthy negotiations.
Wedding celebrations often require months of preparation. Monogamy is
always practiced. However, the rich may sometimes have multiple wives
as a symbol of prestige.

The Tibolis believe that aspects of nature have spirits. If the
spirits are not appeased, they can cause harm to people.

Although the Tiboli believe in a number of gods, the two most
important are Kadaw la Sambad and Bulon la Mogow. They supposedly
gave birth to the lesser gods, who either bestow benefits on people
or afflict them with bad luck or ailments. The Tibolis place large
wooden statues of the gods in their homes and fields. They frequently
offer food and liquor to the gods for appeasement.

LITERATURE
They speak a Malayo-Polynesian language called Tiboli. In addition to
their native language, many of the Tibolis also speak Ilonggo or
Bilaan.

Pilipinas.
Lumipas man ang panahon, mas naging
ng Inang Bayan: Batak, Kiniray-a , at Tboli.

Kinaray-a
Lokasyon: Antique, Capiz
at iba pa.

multa at iba-iba kahirapan.
timabang at parangkutan.

Kultura
kasal at iba pa.
kapwa tao, mas matanda man sa kanila o mas bata. Lolo, lola, tio, at

Kinaray-a.
Ilonggo at Kinaray-a.
Arkitektura
Sining
o salakot at sawali mula sa Belison

salita
Kon nagahayang wara unod
Kon nagakulob mayunod. (Kalo)

(Saging)
Hubarin mo ang iyong damit at titikman kita. (Saging)

May malaking epektong naibigay
