--------- Forwarded message ----------
You are invited to celebrate the ancient festival of May Day(May 1st) at the 'other Parliament' to express and be the deeper change that just an election between parties cannot reach.

Buses 214,C2 go to Parliament Hill which is off Highgate Rd. from Kentish Town Station. Overland trains go to nearby Gospel Oak Station.

Meet at the Band Stand 11.30. near the cafe at the bottom of Parliament Hill off Highgate Rd. to process to the white stone of Truth nearby for the ceremony at 12.00. Come dressed up as your most gorgeous self, bring music, flowers, songs, laughter, love, respect and equality.

We will create sacred space, summoning local goddesses and ancestors... Dedicate ourselves as endlessly, creatively, fertile members of the human tribe..raise magical dragon energies to counteract the rigidity of them/us thinking and to flow down the hill to Parliament Sq. where a May day Carnival will take place at 2.30.

It should be fun. Hope you can come.

Start Time:

End Time:
Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12:15am
Location:
Parliament Square, Westmister

Description

Hello friend,

You may be aware of the recent formation of a Democracy Village on Parliament Square, Westminster which was setup on Saturday 1st May by a group of concerned citizens. The primary aim of the Democracy Village is to represent the views of the people by demanding an end to the war in Afghanistan and the immediate withdrawal of UK armed forces from the country.

This Thursday (6th May), we will be having a celebratory festival of peace at the Democracy Village and calling on the relevant adminstrative bodies to assist us with our peaceful demands. There will be live music, hot food, guerilla gardening, an open mic and much more (all ages are welcome). If you share the view that the time for peace is now, then vote with your feet and come to Parliament Square this Thursday(activities start at 12 Noon and will go on till late).

The Democracy Village is intended to continue until the demands of the concerned citizens are met. Everyone is welcome to join the Democracy Village at any time. Please bring a sleeping bag or a blanket and some warm clothing if you would like to stay.

Please pass this message on to anyone who might be interested and spread the word.

Peace and love

Picnic 4 degrowth! - 6/6/2010

Change always starts with a nice chat around a good dinner! :)  The global pic-nic for degrowth idea was accepted at the second conference on degrowth and social justice in Barcelone in March 2010. Join a pic-nic in order to create or strengthen a degrowth group at the local level. This website's aim is to show that degrowth groups are already many!

HOW to create a pic nic in your town?  Check the map. If there is no pic nic in you city, please create one with the button underneath the map and become the coordinator (the person pushing for it to happen on the ground and not just on the internet :). If there is already a picnic, just join and get in touch with the coordinator.

CONCEPT? Everyone brings a dish to share with their neighbours, a plate, fork and enjoy! Knowing our neigbours is the first step ftoward degrowth at local level.
LOGISTIC? very little. everybody will bring something... Please see the toolkit with advice on how to organise it better.
WHEN? 6th of June 2010

WHERE? Everywhere! :)

Dear Everyone

Campaign for Real Democracy - Call Out

In the context of the wonderful revolutionary village currently camped in the Square, people from A World to Win plus also Matt Scott and myself from the Campaign for Real Democracy (CRD) have been discussing doing a new constitution workshop at Democracy Village.

This follows up work done by AWTW, myself and others in 2006 on the Constitution (which you can read about here: http://www.aworldtowin.net/frontline/C421interimstatement.html )

"The constitution" meaning, in our view the superstructure and system of laws and law making by which ordinary people are presently excluded from power, while local community and environmental relationships get denigrated worldwide. The present constitution is imperial, both internally (through state centralisation and the power of the global corporate hegemon) and externally (via ongoing war state imperialism and economic policy) and therefore (among many other unfortunate things) illegal foreign wars of occupation flow from this undemocratic state of affairs.

Our work in 2006 (the Campaign for a 21st Century Constitution or 'C421') was an early attempt to point out the real and democratic antidote, and to encourage a strategic mobilisation towards the end of a new constitution to be written by the very acts and imaginative ideas of the people, via Peoples' Assemblies. And with your help we would very much like to resurrect the campaign idea in Democracy Village.

We are hoping to hold our workshop one evening next week so if you'd like to be involved in planning or participating in the workshop and you're coming to the Gaza march tomorrow (see below) then please come and meet with me and AWTW at 1pm at the Methodist Central Hall and we can talk through it and make a plan over the course of the afternoon. Our group will be holding banners with "A World to Win" and "One State Solution" or something similar.

GAZA FLOTILLA NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION
SATURDAY 5th JUNE
ASSEMBLE 1.30pm DOWNING STREET, LONDON

More details: http://bit.ly/aEMHws

The aid ship MV Rachel Corrie, carrying medical equipment,
wheelchairs, school supplies and cement, is due to reach Gaza
within days. Another Free aid flotilla is being prepared for
sailing to Gaza next month.

Will Israel perpetrate more acts of murderous piracy to stop
these humanitarian missions?

Governments across the world are virtually unanimous: Israel's
illegal and inhumane siege of Gaza must be lifted now. They are
doing no more than express the UN Security Council resolution
passed in January 2009, which unequivocally "calls for the
unimpeded provision and distribution throughout Gaza of
humanitarian assistance, including food, fuel and medical
treatment."

But words come easy to politicians who have habitually ignored
Israel's countless violations of international law. It is action
that is needed now, with the threat of sanctions and the breaking
of diplomatic links, if Israel does not abide with the demand to
lift the siege.

For that to happen, we need to build on last Monday's spontaneous
wave of outrage, expressed in large protests in dozens of
countries, which forced governments to demand publicly that
Israel ends its blockade, and not least in Egypt, where a regime
which has slavishly followed US dictates, felt compelled to open
its border with Gaza.

As we witness the obscene spectacle of Benjamin Netanyahu
claiming that Israel -- the world's fourth most powerful military
-- is the victim when it slaughters nine peace activists on a
humanitarian mission, Saturday's national demonstration will add
our voice to that of the peace campaigners on the MV Rachel
Corrie, who say that only by breaking the siege of Gaza will we
show that those killed by Israel on Monday did not die in vain.

David Cameron and Nick Clegg need to get the message: Israel's
crimes against humanity must stop now. Please join Saturday's
demonstration if you can and encourage everyone you know to be
there too.

If you would like to distribute leaflets in your area to help
publicise the demonstration, you can download the pdf for

The demonstration is called by Stop the War Coalition, Palestine
Solidarity Campaign, British Muslim Initiative, CND and Viva
Palestina.

************************************

MUST SEE VIDEOS, MUST READ ARTICLES

These are some of the videos and articles in the last week
following the attack on the Gaza flotilla which we think are not
to be missed.

* Video of the day thousands occupied Downing Street and marched
to the Israeli embassy: http://bit.ly/9A4u4b

* Democracy Now video which is the best account we have seen of
the Israeli attack and its aftermath; it includes coverage of the
world wide demonstrations and an excellent discussion with
leading commentators: http://bit.ly/c4ZWIV

* Seumas Milne's Guardian article, "If Gaza's relief is a step
closer they won't have died in vain": http://bit.ly/bI60XA

* Mark Steel's article, "They were asking for it", is a scathing
demolition of the lies which Israeli spokespeople, such as the
abominable lie-master in chief Mark Regev, have been given free
rein to peddle in much of the media: http://bit.ly/97BtiI

* We are also remembering Rachel Corrie this week, who along with
other humanitarian peace activists such as, Thomas Hurndall, and
James Miller, gave her life in solidarity with Palestinians, when
she was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer, as she
tried to protect a Palestinian doctor's home facing demolition:

This current mix of the good weather, great people, and shared food will surely spur us on to achieve unknown levels of universal consciousness. Government types are gradually beginning to realise that only real division is that between the controlled and the controllers

With the pollution, war and eco destruction taking place on land, in the sea and in the air at this very moment, what could be more appealing than chilling in your favourite places, with your fellow beings.

Tell your neighbours about the Pointless Picnic.

.... Long live civil disobedience.Ruthless tyrants may come and go but the Pointless Picnic is here to stay.

Just saw this ad appear in an unusual place on a big network in case anyone's interested:

Sunday, 13 June 2010

Time:
15:00 - 17:00
Location:
London, Parliament Square, Westminster, SW1P 3, England

Dear Friends

You are all invited to give your contribute towards World Peace.
Come and get together in Parliament Square in London, join hands in a circle and make the sound om.
It´s a beautiful experience that allows you to connect to your inner peace and together generate a wave of peaceful vibration that will spread and affect people and all beings around. It will be felt more easily close to the mediators but will be spread towards the whole world. The more people coming with this intention, bigger will be the peace vibration.

People who never meditated are very welcome to come and experience it. Is very simple, just join the circle and make ommmm.
Meditation is for everyone regardless their religion, political point of view or culture. You are a human being, you are able to meditate :)

After the om circle, you are invited to stay if this is your wish, sit and meditate on your own.

It would be lovely we could inspire people to join us and express our common goal: World Peace!
If you feel inspired bring beautiful drawings, banners, face painted ,etc. that express the joy and bliss of being in peace.

Yes, you can change the world!! Peace on Earth is everybody's business so come and invite your friends!!

PS- If you don´t live in London, join OmForPeace project and facilitate a meditation space elsewhere. It would be wonderful if we could synchronize it on the same day.

Operation Rolling Thunder
Peoples Assembly/Democracy Village (PA/DV)

Call out to all Peace,Activist ,concerned citizens groups and members of the Public. Date 1st July 2010 This is London Calling ,Time for Action Stations.

Because in the recent court case for the Democracy Village Parliament Square the judge ignored our rights we have chosen to launch ' Operation Rolling Thunder ' a mass campaign of civil disobedience and Non Violent Direct Action.

W e will be networking to and emailing up to 1,000 Peace, Activist ,Concerned Citizens groups in the UK and Internationally, asking them to come and support the Peace Camp in a number of ways.

When your government is involved in Illegal Wars for resources ,and refuses in a democracy to listen to the majority of the population.(75% of the public want the war in Afghanistan to end and the troops to come home according to polls in the Telegraph and the Independent)

Then it is time for a mass programme of Action.

The Peoples Assembly(PA) / Democracy Village(DV) is part of a world wide movement linked to Activists ,Indigenous and NGO networks, who at Copenhagen Climate Summit 2009 called for Peoples Assemblies to be set up across the world throughout 2010.Because our governments have failed to safeguard us and our children's futures from environmental chaos. So it is up to everyone to meet in their area discuss and put into action their plans for a sustainable Peaceful future ALL ARE WELCOME at these circular discussion forums on the future. Set one up in your area.

The Peoples Assembly /Democracy Village (DV) was set up out of meetings on active resistance to the War. What about the idea of a clear & unambiguous call out from the peace
DV peace piknik tomorrow eve to democracy activists europe and country
wide to organise themselves autonomously, at parliaments and Town
Halls across continent and country for Peoples assemblies,
decentralised democracy villages, peace Picnics, camp fire sharing,
food not bombs, reclaim the streets, clause4 street parties, political
theatre, samba or whatever revolutionary presence can be mustered-
ideally at a shared /synchronised ie set time and day each week -and
with connecting comms on-line to share each event/experience and
create transnational solidarity..? A quick google will reveal the Iron
Curtain fell thanks in part to the organisation of a pan european
picnic; by creating a regular decentralised libertarian presence
across the communities we can surely prepare for the battle ahead,
being building the movement for a new society, ecology, political
justice and an end to war!! Come on people, Mark
Dear Friend

Roll UP! Roll Up! Come on Down to the Peaceniks Piknik on Wednesday
14th July at 7pm at Democracy Village, Parliament Square Gardens.

Ok, so stopping the war in Afghanistan and protecting civil liberties
is serious business, but we've also got to let our hair down
sometimes. With all of us at Democracy Village and beyond biting our
nails about whether we're going to get evicted, I thought it was high
time we had us some good old fashioned fun, y'all :)

We'll be serving tea and cakes, providing some entertainment from
local street performers and artists (and perhaps a couple of special
guests), and discussing the way forwards for the Peace, Justice and
Freedom movement that's been occupying this important space in the
heart of Westmonster.

If you've got some special talents to share, or know someone who has,
we'd love it if you or they would come and do a turn for the
gathering.

Otherwise, feel free to bring some food and (non-alcoholic) drink of
your own, a friend or two and some bright ideas on how we can move
forwards in bringing Peace, Love and Unity to our benighted land.
We'll be discussing the future of the DV site, how we can carry on as
a group if we have to move (bah!) and thinking of some non-violent and
perhaps amusing ways to highlight the problems we face as a community
and as a country. Hey, perhaps we''ll even change something!

Please spread the word as well as the love, and let's try and make
this a productive planning, parlaying and partying evening. Be
wonderful if you could print out a copy of our flyer to stick up in
the office, hand out to lovely people in the street or to make into
paper aeroplanes. You could even design your own better one (time was
short is my excuse!)

Muchos Amor

On the spot to the west of Centre Road, where the police want to site
their Olympic operations base in 2012  Map

Sign online Petition
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Save-Wanstead-Flats/

Ever since over 250 people attended a packed public meeting in July,
residents living near Wanstead Flats have been demanding answers about
plans by the City of London Corporation to allow the metropolitan
Police to base its Olympics operational centre on the Flats in 2012.

In order to push this proposal through, the Corporation would need to
amend an Act of Parliament that has protected Wanstead Flats for well
over a century.

Local people want to know why the proposed site for this police base,
west of Centre Road, has been chosen, how that decision was made and
why the Olympic stadium site itself cannot be used. There has been no
consultation, even though the plans involve locating a fenced, - high
security compound - with buildings, parking areas, stables and
apparently even police holding cells - for at least 120 days and so
close to residential neighbourhoods.

The Save Wanstead Flats campaign is organised by local people and on
Sunday 5 of September, we'd like to invite you all to show your
opposition to the City of London Corporation's plans by joining us for
a picnic - occupying the very spot where the police operations base
would be constructed.

The 71 festival was the second, not the first Glastonbury, but was the first big one and the one where the pyramid stage was built. In the month prior to the festival there was a sort of upstairs/downstairs situation, with Mike Eavis, Arabella Churchill etc in the house, and a bunch of hippie workers in the field congregating round the visqueen tipi where Sid held court. Everyone was broke and tobacco was in such short supply that roll-ups were passed around like joints. I'm not sure whether Sid actually did anything other than pontificate, but his imposing  presence held people together through a month of rain.

Sid's free cafe at the entirely free1971 Glastonbury festival was not the only one to make a profit. The other free cafe, The Communal Knead, held together by a North American called Mike Barglow, also ended up in profit from donations (even though all its takings were ripped off half way through the festival). The profits (Ł35, a huge sum) were used to buy an FG van which headed off to Christiana and started a cafe which I believe was called the Mad House.

Sid's best stunt at  the 71 festival was when a hot dog salesman set up his van right in front of the pyramid stage. Sid sent his minions out to hassle for donations, drove off to Bristol and bought hundreds of rolls and sausages, and then set up a "free hot dog" stand right next to the salesman — who packed up and drove off. "

Simon Fairlie

Mourning the King of the Hippies
Sid Rawle

He was the self-styled "King of the Hippies",
creator of the infamous "Peace Convoy", and one
of the most recognisable faces of the New Age
movement, but now Rainbow Camp founder Sid Rawle has died.

The 64-year-old festival organiser collapsed
suddenly at the Rainbow Camp in Rodley, Gloucestershire, on Tuesday afternoon.

His convoy's bid to set up at the 11th Stonehenge
Free Festival in 1985 led to the "Battle of the
Beanfield", after being refused entry to the
stones by Wiltshire Police. The convoy later won
a court battle with police, proving wrongful
arrest, assault and criminal damage.

Mr Rawle, who grew up on Exmoor, was involved in
the New Age movement from its earliest days. A
former resident of "Beatle Island", John Lennon
and Yoko Ono's retreat off the coast of Ireland,
he was a leading figure in the free festival
scene, organising events all over the country and
present during the early days of Glastonbury Festival.

He moved to the Forest of Dean 20 years ago and
set up the Forest Fayre and Rainbow 2000 Camps at Westbury-on- Severn.

Forest of Dean district councillor Norman
Stephens, who knew Mr Rawle for many years, said:
"Although Sid chose an alternative lifestyle he
was also a gentleman and a man of peace.

"He had run the Rainbow camps, first at Elton and
then at Rodley, for a number of years and the
locals had taken the festivals to their heart.
There was never any problems. I last spoke to Sid
on Friday and his death is a real shock. My thoughts are with his family."

Mr Rawle was renowned as the only person to make
a profit at the first Glastonbury Festival in
1971, cooking up a cauldron of fruit and veg discarded from Bristol Market.

The committed campaigner was also a key part of
the free festivals at Windsor Great Park in the
early 1970s and was arrested for trying to promote a festival there in 1975.

He founded the Tipi Valley hippy community in
West Wales in 1976 and was perhaps best-known for
creating the infamous new age travelling group the Peace Convoy.

He left shortly after the Battle of the Beanfield
in 1985 – the largest mass civil arrest in
English history – when police prevented the
convoy from setting up at the 11th Stonehenge Free Festival.

After a period with the Green Party, Mr Rawle
returned to setting up festivals including the Rainbow 2000 series of events.

His camps were inspired by the "Vision of
Albion", which he described as: "A vision of one
world united in love, a vision of unity in diversity."

His vision has created a legacy in modern culture
with controversial noughties rock star Pete
Doherty naming an album with his band
Babyshambles Down In Albion and his journals The Books Of Albion.

In 1997, the Halifax Building Society used a
picture of Mr Rawle without his permission in an advertising campaign.

The image used the slogan "Be Part Of Something
Big, Man" in a speech bubble above his head. Mr
Rawle tried to sue the company but was
unsuccessful. Mr Rawle died as he was packing up this year's Rainbow 2000 Camp.

Press Release
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
For time eternal conversation has been the footnote of modern man.
It's really where it all began, without it we can't survive, we
couldn't live. Without that most basic of needs we would quickly go
insane. Human nature dictates the need to converse, we are a social
animal. Now that most ancient of human traits is being expanded beyond
all recognition. Today we are pleased to be able to take our
conversational experience to another level. Taking something that we
all do, in our own homes to another level completely. Now we ask you
to join in our global chat from around our table.

Around The Table.TV is a global test bed of future communications.
Neither distance, gender nor persuasion is a barrier. You are
cordially invited to join us in what we hope will be the biggest
social experiment since the invention of the Internet. Global chat
around our virtual table. Each of your ideas, thoughts & perspectives
is a "drop" that makes our "ocean of conversation". No rules except common
courtesy, no barriers except your own imagination. All are welcome to
join in this ground breaking seminar of global interactive discussion.
We aim to make it as easy to participate as a conversation should be.
No registration, no conformation, no delay. You can tweet, Facebook,
text or call, anyone with an Internet connection can attend. You can
even come along in person. All are welcome in our global living room.
Around The Table.TV is just what it pronounces to be. A fully televised
discussion from around a beautiful table. Broadcast live across the
Internet, no cuts, no retakes, just as conversation should be. Bring
your opinions, bring a sleeping bag & stay over. We are bringing chat
from http://www.aroundthetable.tv to your home, to your office, wherever you may
be, whatever you may be doing, all are welcome.

The Format
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
The Table will be situated in the centre of the floor surrounded by
"the audience", there will be chairs at the table which will be
occupied by whoever wants to be there.

There will be a pot in which we can put our suggestions subjects for
discussion at the table. Every 30 minutes, one new subject will be
randomly selected.

Each person at the table can discuss the subject for 60 seconds then
allow someone else to take it up if anyone wants to. At the end of 30
minutes a 5 minute summing up of the discussion will take place, then
a new subject will be selected.

If our table is full and someone wishes to participate, we will request a
volunteer to surrender their seat if no one wishes to do so we will draw
straws.

We would like to create the feeling of your home and invite you to
bring snacks, food, etc to share - there will be soup, a bottomless coffee pot
and teapot.

This is the third of a series of experimental events in this genre and
it will be videoed and broadcast live over the Internet. The video will
also be edited down and distilled into capsules to be shown on the
Internet at a later date.

Those who are watching on the web will be able to interact with the
discussions through social media streams on the website
http://www.arounfthetable.tv
and Twitter which will be projected on a large screen
in the venue, these contributions will be fed into the ongoing
discussions and back out through the web cast, maximising the potential synergy
of the event.
http://www.twitter.com/aroundtabletv - follow us
and interact with the discussion using @Aroundtabletv

We are also encouraging people to host and video similar events in
their home town and upload them to Youtube which we will embed on the

Hi Picnickers

Some may recall the People in Common (picnic) / C421 Project which called for a movement to change the constitution, based on Peoples Assemblies, back in 2006 (see http://www.peopleincommon.org/archive/C421.html )

This Saturday 11th Dec from 1pm-5pm there will be a public meeting on Building a Peoples Assembly Movement in Room MAL417 at Birkbeck College. Since the original call out, we have witnessed a rising tide of activism, so this will be a great opportunity to consider the politics of PAs, as well as how to support the movement so it becomes a genuine and lasting liberation.

A draft agenda is set out below, and all the other info for Saturday is on the website http://www.peoplesassemblies.org/
and it is not necessary to register for this event.

We hope to see you there and please forward this invitation to others within your network...!

In solidarity

Mark

Info / Draft Agenda for Saturday Dec 11th

Independent call outs and supportive messages from around the world are showing us that PAs and the desire for a new politics operating locally, nationally and globally under one banner, has a wide appeal. That said, different groups and people have views about what People's Assemblies are/could be and the role they might play in the anti-cuts struggle.

Therefore, it is proposed that the first part of the meeting should involve the expression of different ideas on People's Assemblies. All those participating on the day will have equal time to put their point of view. A facilitator chosen by consensus on the day will ensure transparency. The aim of this will not be to impose a particular point or reach a synthesis, but to bring out the different aspects of the People's Assemblies idea. These will be noted and reported back via the website and email.

It is proposed that the second part of the day should involve a discussion of how to bring about a liberating PA movement. This will presumably involve discussing and planning actions for 2011 to put into practice the ideas and views that emerge. Again, there should be no attempt to impose one type of action. Instead, we should aim to reach agreement through consensus on initiatives that can take forward the concept and shared politics of People's Assemblies. Plans might include making full use of the People's Assemblies website, social networking, developing international solidarity and further developing a vision capable of bringing on board a full range of groups both here in the UK and in other parts of the world.

In light of resurgent student activism in the UK, it is proposed that our politics and action planning should relate directly to the students' ongoing struggle and other anti-cuts events and days of action.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Introducing the Progressive Strategy Handbook

Are you ready to build the progressive movement that America desperately needs?
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. We’ve finished writing the
Progressive Strategy Handbook that you â€" the community â€" paid for last fall
through a crowdfunding campaign.

So you want to be part of a real progressive movement? You’ve come to the
right place.

We are tired of sitting idly by hoping that our elected officials will set a
bold and visionary agenda for progressive change. We know that our political
system is fundamentally broken and that swapping out one corporate-sponsored
politician for another is only going to preserve, if not strengthen, the status
quo.

And we’re tired of waiting for wealthy progressives to get the message that
they need to fund a movement, not just another election cycle. Since they have
shown an inability to put money into progressive infrastructure for the long
haul, we’re going to have to do it ourselves. And with the power of social
media tools, we believe it is now possible for us to come together and do this.

After years calling for investments in long-term capacity for the movement,
we’ve grown tired of waiting for someone else to step up to the plate. So
we’re doing something radical: We’re bypassing the elites, going straight to
the crowd, and getting down to work.

A Strategy Handbook "By The People, For The People"

We are excited to announce the release of The Progressive Strategy Handbook: How
Progressives Can Create A New Vision For America, a project funded by the crowd
and collaboratively created using techniques that unleash the wisdom of crowds.

Ownership of the handbook is distributed to you and to all users. Since it was
paid for by the crowd, the crowd owns it. We have released it under a creative
commons license that distributes ownership across all users. The particulars of
this legal arrangement provide clues to how it can be used.

     * You are free to share it with your friends without being charged (right to
distribute);
     * You are free to revise and improve it (right to remix), so long as you
give credit to those whose work you are building upon (the attribution clause);
     * You have the right to release a new version so long as you preserve this
license in the new version (the viral propagation clause).

These legal criteria are designed to encourage sharing and improvement of the
handbook, while also ensuring that the ability to share and improve gets passed
along to later versions. So if you contribute to this project, you will be given
credit for your work and you will be free to access and use the materials
generated by the crowd into the future.

In the spirit of collaboration, our team at Cognitive Policy Works will help
foster dialogue around how to improve the handbook. We’ll provide online
forums for open discussion and debate on our website. And we will help attract
various experts to the effort as the need arises. In concrete terms, this means
we are providing a space on our blog for targeted discussions about strategy
development and action as new topics arise. And we offer our expertise as part
of the mix to help clarify and extend what is already written.

Clearly this is no ordinary handbook. It is an open call to collaboratively
build the tools we'll need to set a progressive agenda for the United States in
the 21st Century.

What You'll Find In The Handbook

The first edition was written quickly to keep pace with the rapidly changing
world. We were selective about what needs to be in place if we are to cultivate
game-changing strategies in the midst of the great transition unfolding around
us. So we started things off with a Snapshot of the Movement Today, then
introduced a framework for strategic action with four central elements:

     * Know the Landscape
     * Set the Agenda
     * Prepare to Engage
     * Be an Innovator

Simply put, we want to take actions that increase our ability to influence the
trajectory of America over time. But action is meaningless without knowing the
landscape that (1) sets our context, (2) enables us to see what is possible now,
and (3) gives us clues as to how things will change in the future. We provide an
overview of global trends that place the United States in an emerging context in
the section titled “America Is At An Inflection Point”.

In order to be strategic, we need our actions to set an agenda that moves us
toward our progressive vision. The section “Setting The Agenda For America’s
Future” introduces frame analysis as a method for strategic agenda-setting
that will help us reframe the public discourse around our vision of the United
States while countering conservative propaganda.

Creating a powerful Progressive Majority will require that we become more
organized, more cohesive, and more broadly appealing to the masses. Our agenda
will not unfold unless we are prepared to engage our fellow citizens in a deeper
and more compelling dialogue than what they currently experience. This is
covered in the section “Paving The Way to Engagement”where we explore the
psychology of motivation and the power of social media for driving cultural and
political change.

And finally, we have to be willing to question foundational assumptions about
what it means to be a progressive. Every one of us must be an innovator who can
participate in the creation of new business models, disruptive technologies, and
organizing principles for our movement to succeed in the great transition that
lays before us. We close things out with “Change How Politics Is Done” and a
call-to-action in "Launch Strategic Initiatives".

Let's Get To Work!

As exciting as this fist step may be, it is only the beginning. We are already
beginning to roll out the second phase of the project and we're going to need
your help. In the next several weeks, we will introduce conversation topics on
the branding of the progressive movement and the critical issue of funding
social movements. These are huge topics that are best addressed by a wide
diversity of people with unique skill sets and backgrounds.

You can get involved right away. Please help us build the progressive movement
that sets America on the pathway to widespread health and prosperity in the 21st
Century. Here are several things you can do right now:

     * Download your free copy</a> of the handbook (and pass it along to your
friends);
     * Join the discussion</a> about how to improve the handbook;
     * Write your own blog article about the need for movement-building capacity
(and let us know so we can help spread the word);
     * Seek us out on Twitter and Facebook to link your efforts with ours;
     * And sign up for invitations to join upcoming strategy discussions.

We need everyone to be part of the solution and there is a lot of work to do.
The first step toward bold and transformational change is to join the
conversation. The second step follows from what we say to one another when we
start talking. And then all of the subsequent steps become possible through
collective action as we launch strategic initiatives and redefine the landscape
of action.

Help us make America a beacon of progress in the world once again.

Join us now.
