Census Area Supervisors – 3,500 job opportunities

 

 

Would you like to combine your passion for the community with a part-time job that helps everyone in Australia?

 

If the answer is yes, then the Australian Bureau of Statistics has a Census job for you.

 

In every corner of Australia, 3,500 Area Supervisors are needed to help oversee the distribution and collection of approximately 14.2 million Census forms to Australia’s 9.8 million households.

 

Head of the Population Census program Paul Lowe says Area Supervisors are crucial to the success of the Census and ensuring that everyone in Australia is accurately counted.

 

"Area Supervisors make an enormous difference to the quality and accuracy of the data that we produce from the Census.”

 

“Collecting accurate data to assist with planning decisions has never been more important, particularly in areas across Australia where flood waters have damaged communities,” Mr Lowe added.

 

Area Supervisors will receive between $4,300 and $7,500 for the part-time position and will be employed from 18 April until 7 October.

You will agree that winter this year hit hard earlier than expected with severe cold ( and enormous damage to your physical capabilities) .  This discourage all of us doing some regular outside activities.

 

So... what can be done...??

 

I am collecting “expression of interest’ to play badminton once/twice  a week around Tuggeranong area sports center (exact location -TBA).

 

Please come along to play Badminton, stay fit in this winter.

About the Job
The National Film & Sound Archive is an independent statutory authority (under the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997 (CAC Act)), collecting, preserving, maintaining and promoting the national collection.   The NFSA has a diverse range of operations including an exhibition space, shop, Arc cinema, café, film and audit preservation labs, online research and learning resources, climate controlled storage facilities and a range of access and national programs.  The centrepiece of NFSA is an audiovisual collection, including documents and artefacts, of over 1.6 million items valued at over $175 million.  This environment presents a number of financial challenges and is a unique cultural institution for its broad ranging operations and preservation and access agenda.
The NFSA is looking for a qualified and well experienced financial accountant to manage and coordinate the multitude of routine and complex financial tasks within the organisation.  The position reports direct to the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and has a support team of three staff who assist in accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset management, monthly accruals, general ledger journal processing, chart of account maintenance and other day-to-day financial processing tasks.
The position is responsible for the administration and setup of the Financial Management Information System (FMIS), using Finance One and assists in the management of the relationship with the portfolio agency (Prime Minister and Cabinet) and the Department of Finance and Deregulation (through Central Budget Management System (CBMS) monthly actual report and Portfolio Budget Statement (PBS) submissions).  The position also is responsible for the preparation of the annual financial statements and coordination of the annual audit by the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO).  The position also assists the CFO in the development and preparation of the annual internal budget (with an appropriation of over $25 million and over 200 staff).
This position presents both a significant opportunity and a challenge to an individual who wishes to be involved in a wide range of financial tasks in a smaller cultural entity working closely with the CFO and executive team.  This position is ideal for an individual looking to explore the full range of accounting transactions as a footstep in becoming a CFO.
Ideally the individual will have professional qualifications in accounting and hold, or nearly have completed, their CPA / CA accreditation.  The individual should have a proficient understanding of the administration of a FMIS (particularly Finance One), sound Microsoft Excel/Word skills and an understanding of the Government’s CBMS processing requirements.
About the Team
The Finance & Infrastructure Branch is located in NFSA’s headquarters Acton, Canberra.  The team is responsible for the day-to-day financial and facilities management of the NFSA, including overseeing budgetary arrangements, preparation of financial statements, heritage management, building management, security and ongoing building maintenance.   The Branch interacts with the rest of the NFSA on a daily basis and is divided as follows (with the EL1 Financial Accountant responsible for the Finance Section):

Job Details

Under limited direction undertake the following duties:
  • Preparation and coordination of the NFSA's annual budget process (including Portfolio Budget Statements) for funding commitments, revenue and expenditure as well as mid-year budgets where required;
  • Management of the accounting treatment of the national audiovisual collection;
  • Preparation of the NFSA's annual financial statements as well as monthly financial reports to the Department of Finance and Deregulation (DoFD);
  • Ensuring compliance with taxation obligations such as GST and FBT, including the development and maintenance of policies and provision of advice;
  • Administration of the NFSA’s financial management information system (Finance One) including the development of functions and reporting tools and coordination of user access and training;
  • Oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including supervision of the staff undertaking other financial functions;
  • Preparation of financial management reports and forecasts including financial analysis, interpretation and commentary on financial performance;
  • Development of a financial modelling which reflects the NFSA’s strategic financial position and strategic operating results;
  • Development and review of financial policies and procedures appropriate to the NFSA’s operations and legislative obligations;
  • Management of the NFSA's access to the Central Budget and Management System (CBMS); and
  • Project work of an accounting nature as required.
 

Selection Criteria

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of accounting and financial management procedures in an Australian Government environment;
  • Ability to comprehend, analyse and provide advice on financial information. Ability to distil significant issues from complex financial information;
  • Experience in the use of computer-based accounting systems (preferably Technology One) and the Central Budget Management System (CMBS);
  • Well-developed liaison and oral communication skills and sound writing skills which adapt to the occasion and the ability to present complex financial data to a range of audiences in a clear and logical manner;
  • Ability to generate workable financial solutions to problems and make sound and well informed decisions; and
  • The ability to work closely with the CFO and display an engaging client service attitude with a “can do” mindset and be a committed team player.
Security Clearance Requirements
This position requires an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Criminal Record Check.  This is a security assessed position to the HIGHLY PROTECTED level.

Salam. Last week, the father in law of Br Ali Akbar of Isabella Plains passed away in Bangladesh (Innah Lilahe Wa Inna Elihe Rajeun). Please make sincere doa for the departed soul. 
Also, I would like to invite you to an extended doe/Koran recitation session at CIC, starting at 6.30 pm for Br Ali’s father in law as well as for our beloved ones who left this world ahead of us. The doa session will be finished with CIS’s routine Thursday Surah Yasin recitation for all Muslim deceased person followed by Isha prayer at 7.15 pm.
