I just happened to run across this announcement somewhere and
thought it was exactly what we need! There's a petition you can
sign to make restaurants and other public spaces smoke free. Go to
www.breatheeasywa.org to download a petition and have people sign
it. Close to 200,000 signatures are needed by June 28th to put it
on the November ballot. According to the information I read, more
people are killed every single year by second-hand smoke than
American soldiers killed Vietnam war and Iraq combined. For me
personally, being a former California resident, it's been annoying
to have to put up with smoke inside restaurants after moving here,
even though several individual restaurants are becoming smoke-free
on their own, so I will be celebrating when this becomes Washington
state law!
Note that you need to be a registered voter to sign the petition.
I'm a dork and still haven't gotten around to registering, so this
means I need to pick up a voter registration form this weekend so I
can sign the petition I'm endorsing! Great...
