Ah-HA!! I found this by searching the Seattle Times archives:
"This year's annual Perseid meteor shower will peak on the morning of
Aug. 12. Viewers may see up to 60 meteors per hour at locations away
from the glare of city lights."
So I most likely DID see shooting stars! This is way cool!
