Street Praise (with Jaime Jamgochian)   Message List

Check this out: Right now I'm sitting in my office at work with no
shirt on! The main reason I'm here is because I needed to pee, and
I figured I might as well stop by here to do that and get a chance
to write a LiveJournal update. And the reason I'm not wearing a
shirt is because my t-shirt is soaking wet from standing in the
rain, and I'm just hanging it on my chair to dry for a little bit.
Also, the reason I needed to pee just now is a bit crazy, because it
totally could've been avoided, but I made a choice earlier to delay
my urination for something else. But first, I should back up and
explain where I was this afternoon.

I was at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle for this outdoor
Christian concert event called Street Praise, which featured
performances by some local contemporary Christian artists. Jaime
Jamgochian was one of them. My timing in getting there was actually
pretty perfect. I knew that the whole event went from 1 to 5, and I
left my place at 2:35, and traffic was really slow on the 520
bridge, and I got there at 3:15. That just happened to be right
before Jaime went on! She only performed four songs--two of them
were from her CD (including "Heart of Heaven"), and the other two
were familiar praise songs.

As a side note, as I was driving there, I heard Spirit 105.3 DJ
Martha Hadley announcing the event, calling into the station from
her phone and saying that she was there. So when I got there, I saw
the Spirit 105.3 booth, and I found out who Martha Hadley was
because she was wearing a name tag. I thought about going up and
meeting her, since I hear her all the time on Spirit in the
evenings, but I didn't really know what I would say to her. It was
more like, ah, okay, so that's Martha Hadley. She didn't really
look anything like how I pictured her, but I think that's generally
true with most radio DJ's.

Anyway, after Jaime's brief performance set, I just stayed and hung
around, grabbed a mocha frappucino at Starbucks across the street,
and listened to other bands perform, despite the fact that it was
raining pretty hard. Jaime was sitting in her promotion booth,
apparently with other people from her church who were selling her
CD's and stuff. It took me a while (in fact, I finished my mocha
frappucino), but I finally decided to go say hi to her. She
remembered meeting me last week, though I had to remind her where.
I told her that I heard her song on Spirit yesterday, which she was
excited to hear about. Apparently someone had told her earlier this
week that Spirit was going to start playing her song again, but I
was the first person to report actually hearing it, so she thanked
me for letting her know.

The next band that went up was actually pretty cool. It was led by
a pastor from Christian Faith Center, Frank Montgomery. I'd never
heard of him until today, but I liked the music so much that I ended
up buying one of his CD's. (It's sitting in my car right now, but I
haven't listened to it yet, because it slipped my mind on the way
here.)

Okay, so now I get to the crazy part where I chose to delay peeing.
My car was parked in the lowest level of the Westlake Center garage,
so I had to go through the mall to take the elevator down. But
first I was planning to take either the elevator or escalator UP to
the third level to use the restroom. But then as I was approaching
the elevator, I turned around and saw Jaime Jamgochian walking
toward the elevator by herself, and somehow that made me decide to
just wait for the elevator so I could take it down to the parking
garage. So I was standing there waiting for the elevator when Jaime
got there, and she was like, "Oh, hi! Thanks for coming out!" And
it turned out she was also parked on the bottom level, so we got to
talk for a few minutes as we both headed down there. There wasn't
really a whole lot to talk about by then, other than just commenting
about the rain and stuff and me saying I had a great time despite
the rain, and I mentioned that I was just there two weeks ago swing
dancing at that same park. It just seemed cool to have a casual
conversation with her, considering she's someone I first heard of on
the radio. And just think how cool this will be if she ever does
become as famous as people like Amy Grant or Michael W. Smith!
Anyway, I got in my car, fully aware that I still needed to pee, but
since I was already in my car, I decided to drive out. Then I came
here and peed! (And not surprisingly, there was a coffee smell.)

Well, the upper part of my shirt is still pretty cold and damp, but
I'm getting hungry, so I'll just put the wet shirt on anyway and
head over to Applebee's. I've got a dry jacket and pair of jeans in
the car, so hopefully that'll warm me up.
