I think it just depends on the people in the group, and possibly
who's leading it. If they truly desire to grow in Christ and live
their lives according to God's Word, then their attitudes will
encourage others around them to walk with God. That should really
be the purpose of any Christian group. I know that such groups
exist, because I'm in one. On the other hand, if the group doesn't
exist to glorify God, then it is just as you described, just a
social group with a "Christian" label.
