Description

Pythoness

"The African kingdom of Dahomey was formed by a mixture of various local ethnic groups on the Abomey plain. Historian I A Akinjogbin theorised that the insecurity caused by the slave trade may have contributed to mass migrations of different groups, including a segment of the royal family of the city of Allada, to Abomey. These groups coalesced around a strict military culture aimed at securing and eventually expanding the borders of the small kingdom."

"There are various versions of Python's birth and death at the hands of Apollo. In the earliest, the Homeric Hymn to Apollo, little detail is given about Apollo's combat with the serpent or her parentage. The version related by Hyginus[1] holds that when Zeus lay with the goddess Leto, and she was to deliver Artemis and Apollo, Hera sent Python to pursue her throughout the lands, so that she could not be delivered wherever the sun shone."

"Frances Wright (September 6, 1795-December 13,1852) was born in Scotland. She visited the United States in 1818 and described her travels with enthusiasm for the new country. In 1825, appalled, however, when she saw the horrors of slavery she wrote A Plan for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery in the United States Without Loss to the Citizens of the South. She proposed setting up communities to build economic security and homes for freed slaves on governmental public land. Committees would be set up to decide how to compensate ex-slave owners."
