Here is a link to some of the Joshua Halloween Party photos.  We didn't get a chance to take many ourselves...

http://www.ussjoshua.org/gallery.htm

You'll recognize some of us in there.

Randy is the one wearing a wig that strongly resembles Dyan Cannon's hairdo back in the late 80's... <grin>

He was his ancestor, Sir Isaac Newton and I went as Isaac's real life sister Phoebe Newton.  <grin>  Randy managed to stay in character the entire evening even while performing his emcee duties.  That was a hoot.

Maelinde,

I've been to the Salado Scottish Festival many times. If you've ever
been to the Bedford Celtic Heritage festival, the SSF is about the
same size or a little bigger. SSF is the oldest Scottish festival in
Texas. It is really easy to find as well. Travelling south on I-35
take the Salado exit ramp. Stay on the service road. The festival
grounds are on the west side of I-35 on the service road. You can't
miss it.

Not to dampen (pun intended) any one's interest but that time of year
down there can be cold and misty (fine Scottish weather)!

There is rumor of a Ceildh Saturday night at a nearby B&B. I'll check
for anyone interested if it is an open or closed Ceildh. If it is open
they usually pass the hat to pay for the room. Be advised.

Also, lodging is hard to find in Salado. Most available hotel rooms
are in Temple or Georgetown, 20 miles+ each direction.

Thanks, Michelle.  :-)

We did have a great time!  :-D

I'm just glad that October is finished with for the time being.  I can breathe finally.  Oh, and get started on garb for next season at Scarby of course.

They have a spiffy website and some green sashes, but they can't
march for shyte. I'm always ready to stick the screws to the
English. We've always said that the green sashes outnumber us only
because it takes more of them do get a job done, one Scot can do what
it takes 5 Englishmen to do.

OK, here's the information about the Ceildh Saturday night at Salado.
This is a gathering to have fun together as a family. There will be
food and music. Feel free to bring along your music insruments and join
in or provide some entertainment. They will be passing the hat to pay
for the room so please make a donation if you attend. The Ceildh is
being held at a B&B in Salado. If you want to attend come by the Clan
Gunn tent early for directions. We need to know how many to expect as
early as possible so we can plan the food accordingly.

The motel that my family stays at every year still has rooms available as of
this morning and is only a short drive from the Games. Clan MacLellan and
McDuff stay here too with the added bonus that it's right on I-35.

Hope to see everyone at the festival!

Commander and I would be there, but we made plans to go to TRF this weekend. We're moving to Salado in the next few months (we close on our house next week). I've only been to the Gathering once. Salado is DRY but the Salado Mansion Mexican restaurant on Main Street has a killer bar. Ask for table 41. It puts you right there by the booze. The food is great. Also, check out Uncommon Grounds for breakfast or lunch. It's the best cafe in town. You can buy beer and wine in Belton.

Have fun y'all!

Evening all.

Yes, the other Royal Guard are pretty well organized and have had their
website up and running for quite a while now. They have regular get
togethers and classes. I was a Musketeer and still play in other spots so I
was aware of it and attend some of their functions.
Now the real reason they outnumber the Scots is because they are
composed of Pirates, Irish, English and French plus some that don't fit into
any category. ;o)
But it is all in fun and I say up the ANTE!!!!

From a friend at work... sounds good to me!

Subject: FW: RED FRIDAYS

Normally I don't forward stuff. Even if you don't agree with the Prez,
please show support for the men and women in uniform.

Thank you,

From a vet..
Glen

RED FRIDAYS
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every
Friday.
The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the
"silent majority".
We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country
and
home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or
over-bearing
We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message
orour
opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want
to
recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops.
Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with
dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and every
Friday
until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that.. Every
red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far will wear
something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on
every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the
bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with
acquaintances co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long
before
the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once
"silent"
majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media
lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make
things better for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers.
Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example;
and
wear something red every Friday.

PLEASE FORWARD>>>>>>

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. THEIR BLOOD
RUNS RED - WEAR RED!

Friends,

I was searching for some Celtic push molds for my polymer clay work, and
I came across this fabulous site called Celtic Traders. I ordered the
Celtic Molds of course, but now want so much more. <grin>
http://www.celtictraders.com/

They sell clothing, jewelry, crafting items and more. Shipping prices
there are reasonable, and I'll let you know how quickly they ship.

Just had to share this great find! :-)

Hi All! Scotchtoberfest is officially set for December 3rd at Castle
MacGyver! We are providing the venue, and would appreciate the
regiment's input on food, drink, and entertainment. I'm thinking BYOB
and potluck?

Anyone who is interested in helping with the
planning/setup/cleanup/etc, please contact me via email at
dragon_lady@....

Thanks all! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Dec 3rd is right
around the corner!

Slainte!
Juls

We think alike. I wouldn't expect you to front the cost on
everything.

Juls,

Randy and I are expecting to be there as well. Just let us know what
time and all.

I just bought this new cookbook that I'm dying to try out - "Celtic
Folklore Cooking". I'll see what I can prepare from that.

What menu items are you needing most? Please let us know what we can bring.

I just wanted to drop a quick note letting everyone know that me, ange and the kids are doing alright. Ange and I have been up and down with bad colds for the past two or three weeks now and I've been working my butt off with my new fire dept that I am on (hence why I haven't been online doing any of my work.)

We'll be at Scotchtober fest, and hopefully by the time the holidays are over things will calm down just a bit so I can get a grasp on everything.

Wishing everyone the best.

Hi All! Just got the Scarby newsletter and it looks like they are
offering reduced priced Scarby passes until Dec 15th. It looks like
the pass prices have gone up quite a bit this year, so this looks like
it might be a good deal.

From the Newsletter:

Holiday Season Surprises

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we sit here contemplating turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, and
pumpkin pie, it occurs to us that the holidays are upon us. So as a
holiday surprise, this year we are making Scarborough Renaissance
Festival advance tickets available for purchase to our newsletter
subscribers as gifts for your loved ones (or for yourself). However,
this special sale will end on December 15; so don't wait too long.

We leave the office and lock it up for two weeks on December 16. So go
online at http://www.scarboroughrenfest.com/tickets/index.asp or give
us a call at 972-938-3247 and buy your tickets. They will be mailed to
you immediately and, since the sale ends December 15, we guarantee
that they will reach you in time for Christmas.

How much do they cost? Well, advance prices are as follows:

Friend of the Faire - $65.00
Royal Pass Adult - $50.00
Royal Pass Child - $15.00
Single Day Adult - $15.00
Single Day Child - $ 6.00

Sounds like everyone is up for the potluck. In that case, I offer the
following challenge: Let's have a Celtic/Scottish dish contest. You
may bring anything you like (all potluck items will be welcome) but to
enter the contest it must be a traditional Celtic or Scottish dish.
We will vote on it as a group!

Thanks All!

>Hello all, Stephen MacGyver here. I don't post a lot these days being
the strong silent type and all so please forgive my abscence. Anyhoo,
I'll put in my my 1/2 pence (you're not getting TWO cents out of me!)
regarding Scotchtoberfest. Essentially we're looking at BYOB and
whatever foodables you might like to cart along with you. Mainly just
show up and plan to have a good time in the usual grand tradition of
the regiment's revelry. We could use a bit of help cleaning up after
so any volunteers will be appreciated, I might even try to remain
concious to help as well. I look forward to seeing you all, have a
happy Thanksgiving and a good Festivus for the rest of us.

Sir Stephen Saunders MacGyver

PS. I don't know if directions to our home have been posted, the
address is 625 Berkley Drive, Grapevine TX 76051. If anyone needs more
help finding us contact myself or Julie.

Well, that does sound like a fun challenge!!  Count on me to enter at least one or two dishes...  I've got that new Celtic cookbook to work with so there's no stopping me now.  <grin>

Juls - we'll help in any way that we can.  I know that we can help clean up for sure.  As for setting up, I'll have to get back with you on that, k?  :-)
