I am looking for more events, especially Ren Faires and medieval
recreation/re-enactment events where I might have a good chance of
selling my wood work. I make sewing needle cases, sock needle cases,
medicinal cases, wands, cudgels, belaying pins and a many other items,
all of which I make by hand.

If you have a recommendation, please try to include contact information.

Oh yes, I live in Pennsylvania, directly across the river from
Trenton, NJ and try to limit my travel time to ten hours of less.

Thank you.

You could look here for a more complete listing of faires throughout
the country. http://www.renaissancefestival.com/ They also have a
great forum section which details everything from the largest of
faires to the small one weekend faires. I know they will have faires
from the northeast in there, and I know there are plenty of faires in
the northeast (I grew up in Mass). Give it a try, talk to some of the
folks on there, go into the merchant list, contact some of the
merchants (I am in there also, Black Pearl Leather & Finery).
I have found this to be one of the most informative and inclusive
sites on the internet. There are too many others that are out of date,
or just not expansive enough.

Good luck my friend,

Nzingha,
Although appreciated, I was not the one asking for recommendations,
but replying to someone who who was. He is looking for faires to vend
at and if you noticed in my reply, I posted that I was included in the
vendor section of the ren forum that I gave him. I was trying to give
him the best way to find up-to date faires and locations.
Unfortunately, he will not be traveling this way to see any of us as
he is located in the east (around NJ)and does not want to travel too
far from home.
Here's to a good year and good faire run,
Capt. Jack Daniels

Hello,

I was wondering if Pride & Prejudice w/Kiera Knightley would be a good addition
to your list, and possibly the Hornblower Series from the BBC? Just a thought

Trudy
PS: love the list - thank you!

Hi Sir Clisto. Your list is a noble and worthy endeavor. It looks much like the
one I started back in 1998 for SCA people at
http://www.geocities.com/historicalmovies. I went through Leonard Maltin's book
page by page. I followed all sorts of links on the IMDB. I carried a note pad
into every video store I could find. Whenever the Walter Reade Theater sends me
its monthly program, I scour it to see if there is anything I don't have yet.

I found it to be so long that I divided it up by period in history and subject
matter, so you can look through lists of King Arthur movies, Robin Hood movies,
Viking movies, Samurai movies, Hercules movies, Arabian Nights movies, biblical
movies, Shakespeare movies, documentaries, etc, etc, even fantasy and sci-fi
movies of interest to the medieval/renaissance/swordfighting crowd. I also
included the year of release, the director, the lead actors, and occasionally a
note about the movies, as well as ranking those I have seen:

! = a definite must-see for anyone with SCA related interests.
+ = good to see if you've already seen or if you can't find the must-sees.
% = either a weak movie with a SCA-related theme, or a good movie of limited
SCA-related interest.
- = only for the most desperate completist.

I also linked to Amazon.com with thumbnails of the VHS or DVD cover.

I thought about putting little icons for those with swordfighting scnees in them
that would indicate whether the fights were with broadswords or rapiers, or used
shields or armor, or were oin horseback, but then my boss started looking over
my shoulder and I had to get back to work.

Yes, this is a project one can spend far too many hours on.

Thanks Captain Zorikh. I am probably going to at least break the chapter up
after all this time, into basic period/history & Fantasy/animation. I think
thaat would e better for people looking things up. You took that extra step in
listing all the other information as well. Thanks for the input. I will be
updating some of this tonight.

ATTENTION UPDATE!!! -

I was just notified as of yesterday by the president of the faire,
Wednesday 2/25/09, that due to economic reasons and the faire now
looking for a buyer, the Upper Wisconsin (Medieval) Renaissance Faire
has been canceled for this year. If something happens in the meantime,
this could change, but we can not count on that at this time. This is
a sad time in our economy and it is impacting everyone and every
business including other faires, but we are looking ahead to opening
again next season in 2010. Please keep a watch for further
developments to come in the near future. E-mail me if you would like

It really saddens me to hear this news. I think this was one of the best
Medieval faires that was up and coming. Excellent grounds, and even
better folks running/ working it. I was looking forward to visiting
again. I hope things change for the better for you all up there.

Greetings from The Baron of Koroneburg!

There is another way to look at this: As more and more families face the
challenges of our current economic slowdown, they will most-likely stay closer
to home for their recreational activities. (A new word has even been coined for
this.....instead of families going on vacations, they will take "staycations" in
their own areas.)  Perhaps some of our fellow fairs and festivals will be able
to take advantage of this situation by reaching out, more than ever, to their
local families, emphasizing the unique immersion entertainment and educational
aspects that at day at a Renaissance Festival/Fair/Faire offers, a full day of
"Time Travel" all for the price of admission.

We, the villagers of the Barony of Koroneburg (www.renaissanceinfo.com) send our
very best wishes to all our fellow reenactors.....that your home event
experience a better-than-ever season. And as the good King Henry of Shiabruck

The "hood" where my husband and I "live" in on THERE.com is called Stalward
Village Island.  I'm Xx_Marie_xX on THERE, and can summon you to that hood if
you'd like.  Just IM me when you're THERE.

What is the name of the world where I can find everyone? I have already signed
up and played around in there a bit.

OR... people may do as we have done, and found a 3D world on-line. We "live" in
a medieval world in THERE.com. It's good to live within the castle walls 365!

Greetings from The Baron of Koroneburg!

There is another way to look at this: As more and more families face the
challenges of our current economic slowdown, they will most-likely stay closer
to home for their recreational activities. (A new word has even been coined for
this.....instead of families going on vacations, they will take "staycations" in
their own areas.) Perhaps some of our fellow fairs and festivals will be able to
take advantage of this situation by reaching out, more than ever, to their local
families, emphasizing the unique immersion entertainment and educational aspects
that at day at a Renaissance Festival/Fair/ Faire offers, a full day of "Time
Travel" all for the price of admission.

We, the villagers of the Barony of Koroneburg (www.renaissanceinf o.com) send
our very best wishes to all our fellow reenactors.. ...that your home event
experience a better-than- ever season. And as the good King Henry of Shiabruck
suggests, let us all pray that things get better soon

ONWARD and UPWARD!
Baron Heinrich von Lauffer of Koroneburg

Greetings from king Henry

That is too Bad, I am Afraid that it is going to get worse before it gets
better. I expect to see more faires close there Gates and this Saddens My Heart.
Let us pray that things get better soon.

With Honor and Respect to all
King Henry of Shiabruck
