VENTURA, Calif.‹A Ventura pastor and his wife have been
arrested for allegedly preying on an elderly man who signed over
the deed to his home and didn't get paid.
The Rev. Alonzo Gene "Lonnie" McCowan, pastor of the Solid Rock
Christian Center, is charged with two counts of theft from an
elderly person and two counts of money laundering in an amount
that surpassed $500,000. His bail is set at $500,000.
His wife, Kimberly Ann Oglesby McCowan, is charged with single
counts of grand theft and money laundering. Her bail is set at
$40,000.
The Camarillo couple allegedly got now-86-year-old Leo Gilmond
to sign over the deed to his Ventura house, saying the church
needed a rental for church dignitaries and students. Gilmond
wasn't paid the promised $460,000.
