Donors Urged To Give Blood At One Of Five San Diego Blood Bank Donor
Centers Located Around The County

An emergency blood shortage continues as the wildfires still raging
in San Diego County force the San Diego Blood Bank to cancel mobile
blood drives for the third consecutive day. All San Diego Blood Bank
donor centers will be open during normal hours of operation: North
County Donor Center, Escondido, 10 am to 6 pm; North Coastal Donor
Center, Vista, 8 am to 4 pm; East County Donor Center, El Cajon, 10
am to 6 pm; South Bay Donor Center, National City, 10 am to 6 pm,
San Diego Blood Bank main center, Hillcrest, 9 am to 7:30 pm. The
blood bank had issued an urgent appeal for donors of all types last
Thursday as blood supplies fell to near zero levels.

"There has been an outpouring of support from San Diego blood
donors," said Lynn Stedd blood bank spokesperson. "As we are forced
to cancel more blood drives, we need that support to continue."

Emergency Declared As Blood Supply Plummets
The San Diego Blood Bank is declaring an emergency as seven of the
eight blood types are at near zero levels. The types affected
include O positive, the most frequently occurring type in the
population; and O negative, the "universal" type used in
emergencies. The blood bank encourages donors of all blood types to
give now at any location listed below or any bloodmobile.

"During the past two weeks blood donations have fallen by more than
20%, while the high demand for blood has not changed," said Lynn
Stedd of the blood bank.

Typically October is not a time when the blood supply drops so
dramatically, however, the year 2003 has seen greater blood
shortages both regionally and nationally.

Adventure
San Diego Blood Bank awards donors a voucher for a free Hornblower
Whale Watching Adventure throughout the month of October.

Donating blood can lead to an adventure on the open sea! Anyone who
gives blood at a San Diego Blood Bank donor center will be awarded a
2-for-1 voucher for a Hornblower Whale Watching Adventure,
compliments of Hornblower Cruises & Events.

Between December and March, the California Gray whale travels to the
warm waters of the Baja Coast to give birth to their young. On the
return trip, the young calves can frequently be seen swimming at
their mother's side. The whale watching season begins on December 13
and reservations are suggested.

San Diego Blood Bank donors will also be awarded a limited
edition "Surfer" T-shirt in October.

A grandmother was surprised by her 7-year-old grandson one morning.
He had made her coffee. She drank what was the worst cup of coffee in

    Susie Sunshine asked her Sunday School class to draw pictures of
their favorite Bible stories. She was puzzled by Jimmy's picture which
showed four people on an airplane, so she asked him which story it was meant
to represent. "The flight to Egypt," said Jimmy. "I see . . . and that
must be Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus," Ms. Susie said. "But who's the fourth
person?" "Oh, that's Pontius the Pilot."


      An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief,
finally asked him, "How do you expect to get into heaven?"
The boy thought it over and said, "Well, I'll just run in and out and
in and out and keep slamming the door until St. Peter says, 'For heaven's
sake, Jimmy, come in or stay out.'"


     A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon full of
children home one day when a fire truck zoomed past.  Sitting in the front seat
of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the
dog's duties.
"They use him to keep crowds back," said one youngster. "No," said
another, "he's just for good luck." A third child brought the argument to a
close. "They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrant."


     Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold
cream on her face. "Why do you do that, Mommy?" he asked. "To make myself
beautiful," said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue.

"What's the matter?" asked Little Johnny. "Giving up?"

Yesterday, I called San Diego because Colonel Paige has been very
recently hospitalized.  He is at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.  The
message that his wife left on the answering machine was that he had
been hospitalized because of kidney failure.  Today's call resulted
in a new message indicating that his kidney AND his heart are both
failing.

Obviously, I have not talked with Mrs. Paige, but her message
indicates
(at least suggests) both faith and (possible) fatalism.  In short,
that
great warrior who is amongst the giants of our Corps appears to be in
very dire straits indeed.

It may be of interest to some who are not aware, that very recently
the
Marine Corps Mustang Association honored (with his delighted
permission!) Colonel Paige with personalizing an award we present to
the
"stand out" member of WO and TBS classes as the "Colonel Mitchell
Paige Mustang Spirit Award."  He recently told Colonel Jim Mutter
that he and his lady would honor us with his presence at the MCMA
annual Muster to be held in San Francisco during October, "God
willing."

Please act, communicate, pray, or "all of the above" as each of you
deems appropriate.  Personally, I pray that God is willing.  If He
deems
otherwise, I am confident that Colonel Paige will leave us knowing
that
subsequent generations of Marines (and especially Marine mustangs)
will honor his service and his character for as long as the battle
for
Guadalcanal is remembered at Parris Island, San Diego, and Quantico.

I receieved this from a good friend and checked it out.  Low and
behold, its
true.  Nice map right to our place.  I immediately followed
directions and
removed my phone number.  You might want to check it out.


If you type in your phone number on www.google.com it comes up with
your
name and address and then directions via mapquest.

hyphens, including area code (xxx-xxx-xxxx)and click on Google
Search. If
your phone number is listed, it will show your name and address and
give
you two map options: Yahoo and MapQuest. See how accurate the map is
to your
home.



Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone
number, be
it a home or business address, could use this feature to locate a
physical
street address and receive directions on how to get there from
anywhere in
the country. We all know the dangers of this--for adults and our
children!



Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE
their
telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping
feature.



You will first need to check if your number is listed in this manner
by
attempting a search - entering your full telephone number separated by
dashes (xxx-xxx-xxxx). If the number appears in the mapping database,
an
icon resembling a telephone will appear next to the first or second
entry on
the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page
containing a
description of the service and a link to request your number be
removed from
the database.

Hello everyone I am new to the group.  I live in San Diego but, grew
up in Bakersfield.  I have been in the Marine Corps for the last 15
1/2 years an am now on the IRR side of the house as a Staff
Sergeant.  I have not been sent any where yet but, been told to get
my affairs in order an be ready for when orders do come down.  I
just spent the last three day redoing my resume & am looking for a
better job.  My luck is I will find something nice & then get sent
over.  I spend my time helping out with Breakfasts and Dinners at
the VFW 3788 off of Convey on Othello 4th Friday MOC Prim Rib Dinner
or at the Moose Lodge 1852 on Ruffin every Sunday Big Al's all you
can eat Top Sirloin Dinner for $3.50 & the all you can eat spaghetti
dinner on every Tuesday for $4.00 or down at VFW 3787 on Twain with
the Marine Corps League Breakfast every forth Sunday for $4.00.
Second Tuesday of the month I help with bingo at the VA Hospital in
La Jolla.  I am a giver not a taker.  I am not a player an don't get
into all the games.  I don't do the bars an am bring out this group
instead of these paid sites to meet someone nice to be my Valentine
