Where are you located?

Most SCA groups
will be more than happy to set you on the right track.
You have one of the best tools at your finger tips
right now.

Use it. Its a great sourde for
finding all kind of things.

The first step would
be to locate your local chapter. Then go to one of
the meetings that intrest you. There you
go.

Martin de Jararvellier
k_hinote and myself are planning to construct a
whole web site for SCA beginners. Does anyone have any
ideas about what content they would like to see? We are
plannning to put a list of reputable armourers and garb
makers, plus links as many sites as we can find that have
good information for beginners. There will be a bit of
original material of course. I am also thinking of
creating a map of the planet with clickable Society
political boundries. I haven't ever been able to find one
of those. i.e. you can click on the Middle Kingdom
and a map of that will appear, then you click on a
principality and and so on...

Please provide input!
Although I keep my links in the "News" section, don't
hesitate to add links to the "Links" section. Good garb
sites would be appreciated.

K_hinote and I
ordered our first serious bits of steel armour this week.
We have been constructing our torso armour ourselves
out of barrel plastic. It seems like a lot of people
complain about fighters who wear plastic, being as it's
not period and all, but to us it is the difference
between fighting and not fighting. We are going to get
measured for our helms on Saturday. We'll let you know how
it turns out. I think we will be armoured by the end
of Febuary. Has anyone else purchased armour?
There is a world map somewhere of all the bondaries, which filters down to
continents, then Houses, Guilds and Shires. I'm at school now, but I'll find it
then mail it to ya - cya
I'm new to the club. I am working in Germany
right now but am looking to move back to the Maryland
area around Columbia. Is there a local SCA group out
there and what might a past and future resident do to
participate??

Dan
Well met! I did some checking for you. I believe
you are in Howard county which would put in the
Barony of Lochmere. Their website is at
http://lochmere.atlantia.sca.org/. You should contact their
Chatelane. Her name is
Lady Etain(a.k.a. Jess Kravatz). According to the
information on their website she can be contacted at
410-997-0991 or scaetain@.... Let me know what other
questions you have!

RickToad
I am Eislinn nic and Abba, although that might
have to change depending on the Herald, and I am not
new to the SCA, but am not yet a card carrying
member. I have been hanging out with SCA people now for 2
years, and am dating someone whom is in the SCA, whom
has been a member for about 9 years. I am Female in
case you couldn't tell, and am interested in possibly
becoming a combat archer. Mostly, I'm the art/sci type
though. Any hints would be greatly appreciated, and I've
looked at the bookmarks and will visit. I notice there
isn't a schedualed chat time. . . Is that something you
would consider in the near future?
Many Thanks Mr Toad.

I wil have to get in contact with them. I have put
off joining for so long. My brother is into it out in Cal...goes to alot of the
big wars.

Dan
Would be what? Posting a note? I miss all the notes and chats. I'm willing to
host one evening if anyone is interested. Let me know what time would be
convenient for a chat?
There is a light at the end of the tunnel!! I
have all the pieces to my armour kit. All that I'm
needing is my leather straps and buckles to come in. Then
I will enter the world of heavy fighting. Can't
wait. I made my on body armor based on coat of plates
from the Battle of Wisby 1361. I used 55gallon drum
plastic backed with canvas. For my vambraces and curiass'
the same plastic cover in black and red velet. my
gorget is a very basic shape and style mild steel that
covered in grey velet.

I'm planning on throwing a
surcoat over the whole thing with my primary colors red
and yellow lozengy. I may just go with a color, or
colors that match my armor.

Anybody else into
fighting yet? Any secrets you can share.

Martin de

Greetings,
I'm not quite a newcomer having
originaly joined the SCA back in 1979... However, life
intruded and I've
been away from the Current Middle
Ages for some time. In fact I think the last event I
attended was the
Twenty Fifith Year Celebration here
in the West. So everything is, in a sense, new to
me. I plan to attend
March Crown here in the West
and would appreciate any notes letting me know what
customs might have
changed over the last 10 years
(are bardic circles free form or stuctured now... are
people in the West still
casual about rank... that
type of thing)

Elspeth of Seal Cove
Greid of
the Wastes (my Lord)
To be totally honest I don't know. I have never
been to an event. But will be attending my first in
april. Touramnet of Chivalry. It will be also my first
fighting experience outside of fighter practice. I'm
looking forward to it.

Martin
