(*Focus will start with the 6 count basics then move into 8 count basics & some

amount of spice to get you ready to perform or learn some
extra tips about musicality and styling.
You should have at least 1 full Fundamentals series

---------------------------------------------------------------------
We have so much cool stuff planned for you this month! We are
introducing the newest members of our team, Gabe Takacs and Andrea
Wolf! In addition, we will be featuring our "Code Orange" party on
September 24th. More details below.

Gabriel and Andrea have been enthusiastic members of the dance scene
since 2000 when they began Lindy Hopping together in Tucson, Arizona.
After relocating to Los Angeles in 2001, they continued learning
Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Jazz, and Blues from renowned
instructors, including Ben and Sheri Yau, Debbie Gitt, Patrick
Fredrickson, and Doug Silton. In 2005, Gabe started graduate school
at Stanford University where he began teaching weekly lessons.
Meanwhile, Andrea taught Lindy Hop and Blues classes in Los Angeles
until moving to the Bay Area in 2006. Expanding their love of social
dancing to choreography and performance, Gabe and Andrea joined the
dance troupe Double or Nothing in 2005 and 2006, respectively. In
addition to weekly classes at Stanford, Gabe and Andrea have been
seen teaching at Bay Area venues, including Swing Central, Steppin'
Out and now Wednesday Night Hop. They enjoy using technique intensive
concepts to continually reach new levels in their dancing and
teaching. Since 2007, they have been traveling nationally to Lindy
exchanges and events in order to continually expand their dance
perspectives.

Dear Friends,

This week is our 2-Year Anniversary of Cat's Corner at Savanna Jazz
Club! Come out and celebrate good times with us! We've come a long way
in that time, starting out with just a drop-in swing lesson and DJed
music...now we've got three classes and great live music every week.
We couldn't have done it without your support, so Cat and I hope that
*YOU* will join us for the festivities!

What are we planning? Well, CAT IS BACK, we've got the San Francisco
Medicine Ball Band playing for us along with DJ Jeff Yih spinning
during the breaks, plus we've got three knock-out performances lined
up. We also have many people to thank and we'll raise a toast/roast to
more future fun at Cat's Corner!

Tomorrow, September 3rd, is also the first night of our next Lindy Hop
class series. The 7pm Beginning class still has two spots open for two
followers, and the 8pm Intermediate class has room for 3 more leaders.
You can sign up online at:

http://www.catscornersf.com/classes.html

and still get the discount.

For those of you who missed out on the Lindy Hop class this month, you
are still welcome in our drop-in Swing class at 9pm ($10/class) where
we teach a wide variety of fun steps each week. No partner needed, no
experience needed.

Thanks for supporting Cat's Corner for the past two years, and we hope
to see all of you out this Wednesday!

Cheers!

Cat & Nathan

P.S.
If you really need your fix of Lindy Hop this month, there is still
room for leaders and follower in Nathan's Sunset Beginning Lindy Hop
Class on Mondays:

http://www.swingornothing.com/mondays

Or you can try Cat's Beginning and Intermediate Swing classes on
Fridays at the Richmond YMCA:

the throw-out, and basic balboa connection.

(*Focus will start with the 6 count basics then move into 8 count basics & some

dancers. You MUST be at an Intermediate / Advance level Before taking this
class. Required to know: Swingouts, circles, side-by-side
charleston, tandem charleston, sugar push, 6 count and 8 count rhythm,

interesting movements strung together in an interesting lindy hop routine.

amount of spice to get you ready to perform or learn some
extra tips about musicality and styling.
You should have at least 1 full Fundamentals series
before this class. Learn techniques to dance with more confidence,
fluidity, style, & fun.
If you are NEW to performing, but at an Intermediate or above level, this class
might just be the thing for you to help you get over the hump and
take your dancing to a new level.
Get ready for some fun & opportunities to perform too.

1. THIS WEEK: Sept. 10th - DJ Alex - Great Classes + Gabe & Andrea!

- 10 Years Already?!? -
We are going to be celebrating an exciting milestone for the 9:20
Special this Thursday (9/11)...10 years of dancing pleasure! I can't
believe the time has flown by so quickly since Paul and Sharon started
this wonderful dance! Having regularly DJing here throughout the
years, I am honored to be invited to DJ for this exciting evening.

- Requests? -
I plan to bring back all of the hits that will remind you of the many
wonderful years of dancing at the 9:20 Special. Of course I can't
remember everything, so please let me know if you have any requests
for the evening.

- Old Familiar Faces? -
I want to invite all of the 9:20 Special regulars from over the years
who might not being out as often these days to make a point of coming
this Thursday to celebrate a decade of amazing swing dancing in San
Francisco. I hope to see a lot of old familiar faces in the house!

- Photos/Video? -
Cianna is organizing the evening and is requesting that you send her
any photos or video you might have collected over the years. She is
compiling an amazing slide/video show. Send anything you have to
photos@....

- Come Kick-Off SFLX 2008 Early -
And if that wasn't enough, Thursday will be the unofficial kick-off of
the 2008 San Francisco Lindy Exchange, so there should be lots of
visiting dancers already in town, making for an even more amazing
evening.

- What Else??? -
Who is going to re-enact the infamous Grease Monkeys routine? Anyone
up for leading the latin shim-sham? Will we see an sea of orange
pants? Will Elliot show up at 11 pm? Will Megan bring some sort of
celebratory cake? Please no naked jams though! ;)

See you on Thursday!

Subject: Big Apple Class starts Monday, October 6 at 8pm
hepjen1
Send Email Send Email

Hi Everyone,

I am excited to announce that I will be teaching a special 8-week Big Apple
Performance Class this fall, on Monday nights at Julie's Supper Club!

The Big Apple was a 1930s dance craze, which originated at the Big Apple
Nightclub in South Carolina, and hit New York City like a storm soon thereafter.
It was danced in the Savoy Ballroom in New York, and Whitey's Lindy Hoppers put
together a Big Apple performance routine. I will be teaching the original
performance Big Apple as danced by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers.

Check out the Big Apple on YouTube at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49ocW71YPfs&feature=related

The Big Apple Performance Class will be a high-energy class with fast footwork
and tons of 1930s jazz moves. Learning the Big Apple is a great way to pick up
the styling of the original Lindy Hoppers. Consider it cross-training for your
Lindy Hop! And a great workout!

We will move at a quick pace. Prior experience with Lindy Hop, early-era jazz
dances (Charleston, Shim Sham, etc.), or tap dancing will be very helpful for
this class. While there are some partnering elements in the Big Apple, the Big
Apple is danced primarily as a solo dance.

The Big Apple Performance Class series starts on Monday, October 6 at 8pm. The
class is an 8-week progressive series, and runs through Monday, November 24.
The class cost is $80, or $70 if you register online by Friday, October 3.
Register early and save $10!

Class includes admission to the Monday night swing dance at Julie's Supper Club!
Stay and swing dance after class, every Monday. Julie's Supper Club features a
full bar and dinner menu.

Julie's Supper Club is located at 1123 Folsom (near 7th Street), in the South of
Market neighborhood in San Francisco. Easy street parking, and good MUNI and
BART access, too.

You may register for the Big Apple Performance Class online at
http://www.hepjen.com/bigapple.html. Pre-registration is highly recommended, as
the class size will be limited. A few people have already signed up!

Hope you can join us for the Big Apple Performance Class this fall!

Thanks,

Jen
