thx to all for the good info. I imagine that it's just my old raymarine
autopilot then. I've already remedied that by mounting my old chartplotter in
the dash, so I could control it. plus it's nice to have a backup GPS if
anything goes wrong with the HB unit. thx again

manufacturers for various devices and at various times. Most gps units used to
allow you to change the baud rate to match the baud rate the accessory

I konw hbird is going to release the update in mid Jan. up to mid Feb. per my
phone conversation on Tuesday the 29th. I looked at the pictures and can't wait
for the free update. I know the downscan will add another image. I am curious if
you are running inside a creek, lets says it is 40' wide on each side. When your
using the downscan are you able to select either side of the water column line?
Am i right to assume that the downscan is looking directly beneath the boat and
will show anything to the left/right of the water column? I was trying to
understand how the update will make the downscan work? I also did not know when
you move the cursor on the current water column view are you able to see the
cursor in relation on the downscan is?
thanks,

Should the head unit be removed and stored indoors during cold spells and periods of inactivity?

What is the lowest temperature that unit can be expected to function?

David,

I can't remember the name of the place. It was somewhere in Luisiana but I can't find my reciept. It may have been 119.00 but it was only about 1/2 the price of most listings. I did another search and the least expensive I can find now is 89.00 for the 7.00 and 164.90 for the 10.4 @ www,allaudioexpo.com

I am showing about twice this price.  Do you remember what site you bought it from?  also, where did you get the video cable for it.  Thanks, David

You can google "Pyle marine monotor' and you will find several sizes. The 7 inch is about 79.00 I think I paid 109.00 for the 10.25 inch which is the same size as the 1197 screen. Blackie. You will need the video out cable from HB because of the priority fitting.

The video monitor would have to be waterproof.

Distance reading is straight line distance from the boat to the cursor if
you travel the heading direction. The cursor reading is the horizontal
distance from centerline or boat path to the cursor.

Is that distance the horizontal, vertical or the sight line distance to the

I've heard that that GeoNav will have a new autopilot out this year. Maybe we
can get one at Humminbird and test to make sure that they are compatible.

I'm no AutoPilot Expert but Johnson Outdoors that owns Humminbird does own
GeoNav that has AutoPilots. Might see what they offer as compatible with
Humminbird. I'm totally clueless on AutoPilots just thought it might offer you
some help.

I'm no AutoPilot Expert but Johnson Outdoors that owns Humminbird does own GeoNav that has AutoPilots. Might see what they offer as compatible with Humminbird. I'm totally clueless on AutoPilots just thought it might offer you some help.

Turn scroll speed to 2 to 4. This is how I get the detailed images like I've posted here.

Thanks Bob. I have the wiring diagram for both units , the 1197c and the
raymarine ST6001 autopilot, and even though the autopilot works with NEMA 0183
and seatalk, it seems to prefer seatalk, as I couldnt get it to work with the
appropriate connections of NEMA 0183 on my humminbird, even with humminbird
techs help. IMO, This is an area where humminbird could improve; If I were
them I'd use another company's autopilot (and not develop my own), like the new
garmin, and make sure my software/hardware would seamlessly integrate with it.
It would sell alot of units to the offshore crowd. As it stands currently, you
evidently can get the HB units to work with various autopilots, but you lose
some functionality usually with the interface.

Doug, thanks again.

I'll be adding SI shortly, but will have to wait until the water softens up to see how well it works.

...it's gonna be a long 3 or 4 months.....

Fish are pretty easy to see since they are strong returns. Problem with sizing is if they are facing and angled towards transducer they will not show up as big as if they are parallel to the transducer. They show as they are related to boat position.

To view recordings you will need to download third party software like Yellow Fin, Si View etc... You can learn alot more at this site, several of the members are the actual software designers: http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php

As far as details what speed and settings are you running, This will make alot of difference in details displayed.

Type MONITOR in the search block and it will show all the posts about it.

I was hoping there was a way to use the video output to mirror the images on the unit to the bow of the boat using 12 from my battery. Is this anyone has tried. The video monitor would have to be waterproof.

Where is my update? :)

Thought I would stir the pot a little. I figure that is going to be a common
post for the next little while.

I also tried to play with the settings of si enhancement, contrast and the backlight... For some reason I cannot match the other pics. Not much detail at all. As compared to some others pics. Any ideas? I even tried going back thru a recording and just can't get it right!

I think I got it somewhat correct... the settings on my 997. I was able to find a series of ditchs which I knew were there soemwhere but now I have found them all!!! I recorded a lot of stuff yesterday but do not know how or if it is possible to upload a recording to the puter?

Also with using the humminbird PC... maybe I dont get it much but I need to see the waypoints that i marked on the side imaging screen portion to remember what they were... rocks, brush and what not. is there a way to play a recording on the puter? I have got a few snapshots screens uploaded just fine to the puter.

What do you all use the humminbird pc for mostly? just naming the waypoints is about i am seeing out of it as of right now. I only uploaded it a little while ago and am still learning. any help would be appreciated.

thanks and happy new year
Marc

think I found it:  http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/17568429/sn/1700835499/name/n_a

...I'm intrigued, to say the least.

...How easy it is to ID fish on an SI screen?  I can see in the pictures posted that they are fairly hard returns without attached shadows...is there a way to get a feel for size?

Please my jumping around on this - I've been away from fishing for 20 years or so and am trying to catch up...and this SI technology has me seriously jacked up!

There is a picture of the transducer mounted already posted. It is not like the transom transducer. Just scroll thru the transducer picture posts. The first one I saw was on a white Motor Guide trolling motor.
