Subject: Impresario 2010 - The Open Platform

Dear Koah Fong,

Impresario 2010 is officially inviting submissions for “The Open Platform”!

This inaugural category aims to create a platform for contestants to showcase a different talent out of sing/dance/compose, bet it be it beat-boxing, juggling, yoyo-tricks, playing different instruments or even magic.

Brief Introduction of Impresario

Impresario is an annual nationwide talent search competition organized by Nanyang Technological University Cultural Activities Club. In its 18th year running, Impresario has become one of the main channels of talent emergence in Singapore. The objective is to promote the local arts scene by giving music and dance enthusiasts a platform to showcase their talents. This year, Impresario 2010 has taken a step further and is inviting submission of any talent showcase through The Open Platform.

To participate, just follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Think of your special talent
Step 2: Film it down on video(s) and upload either on YouTube or digital delivery service website (Eg. yousendit.com)
Step 3: Complete the registration form and send it to
theopenplatform@...!

Registration is free of charge and the winner would stand to walk away with attractive prizes as well as the opportunity to perform at the Impresario 2010 Grand Finals. Do visit http://www.cacimpresario.com/The-Open-Platform/ for more details.

We sincerely hope to see you at our competition. Finally, we would also appreciate if you could publicise this competition to other juggling enthusiasts or anyone whom you think have a special talent, like the unicyclist friends you mentioned. Please feel free to contact me at 97324500 if you have any further queries regarding the event

We look forward to your positive response.

Hi all!

I just came back from Cambodia on a volunteer trip to do what I can for the
orphanage there and the villagers there and had a blast of a time.

I brought along 5 singabolas and taught them some juggling for fun. I must say
the Cambodian kids have great ball sense and they picked up juggling very
quickly! Intend to email Performers without Borders and see if they want to pop
by the orphanage to pass their skills there.

But that's Cambodia. Closer to home, I'd like to extend an invitation to the
group here to join us on our annual Christmas carolling vist to NUH. It's
organised by a small group of us from church but I assure you it's purely
community work. I've been doing it for the last two years and every trip blessed
me with a rewarding experience to bring home.

Here's how you can help. We'd be going into the wards and a group of 5 or so
will be singing carols and one will be playing the guitar. Jugglers/balloonists
are needed to entertain while the carols are sung. We're not professionals so
the singing is a bit off key and juggling also no need very pro one. What really
matters is having a heart to bless the patients there, to bring some Christmas
joy to them while they're stuck on their beds.

Details:

NUH visit - 19 Dec (next sat). Time 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Carol Rehearsal/ Teaching of balloon sculturing/Wrapping of gifts - 12 Dec (this
sat) 2pm to 6pm. @Pacific Mansion, river valley close.

If you can't make it on the 12th it's fine.

I'll be there on both dates, Moses will be coming on the 12th to help with the
teaching.

All talents are welcomed, though I think fire breathing won't be much
appreciated in the wards.

There is much joy to be felt when we use our talents to bless others, for no
reason other than to spread the love.

cheers!
Yvonne

Hi all,

Thank you, Yvonne - I blur blur, not very sure how to send to everyone on the
list, so thanks to Yvonne. :-)

If you like physical comedy, you should go and watch Kenny Ahern, a big US man.
He taught me stuff which I still use today. I haven't seen him in a while so I
dunno what the new act is.

Catch all the acts if you can! I'll try to find some time too.

I'll be down at far east tmrw to catch the acts before heading to the esplanade. I caught Pepper Zero and Hiro last year and they do a fair bit of juggling. Pepper knows quite a wide variety of props and Hiro does some difficult technical ball juggling stuff. Both of them adopt the "western" style of busking.

Ojarus i've never watched but judging from their youtube videos, they are a must catch. A nonsensical hilarious team that reminds me of the Blue Man group. Very irreverent and full of whacky funny ideas.

I see a pic of a lady with fire torches on a unicycle.

Maybe I'll see some of you around! I plan to catch all the different acts!

i went to the one abt a year or two ago and it was fabulous! i love the japanese

On a side note, anyone saw the article on Life today (saturday) on the dhoby
gaut amphitheatre opening? sounds like a potential place for juggling. Haven't
been there though, may or may not be conducive.

Hi Singapore Jugglers,

My friend is interested in learning to juggle and she wishes to buy 6 balls to start. So nothing too fancy or expensive like stage balls.

Does any one still make/sell juggling beanbags or balls? I remembered I bought 12 velvet beanbags from Mei Ling 10 years ago when I started. Amazingly, they are still in mint condition! So perhaps someone also makes custom beanbags?

Thanks in advance!

John

Hi guys,

I'm looking at organizing a a FREE beginners unicycle session sometime
towards the end of this month. Details are not confirmed yet but I'd
like to get a feel of attendance. If we do have such a session, will you
be interested? It would be great if you could take some time to answer
the following as well -

Location Preference? North/South/East/West/Central

Do you own a unicycle?

Time/Day Preference? Weekday Evenings / Weekend Mornings (and which days)

All will be welcome - we've got some unicycles around if you haven't got
one. Bring your friends, kids and your kids' friends along. Preferably
tell me the age groups to expect so I can bring down appropriate unicycles.

Please do pass the message down to any friends who'd be interested. Any
additional questions can be directed to onewheeler@...

Thanks!

Dear Yvonne

We spoke on a short while ago.

I am a member of the Buddhist Library. This year, the Buddhist Library is
holding a family funfair at the vacant field next to Aljunied MRT on 22 November
2009 from 9am to 5pm. As such, we are looking for performers to entertain the
crowd and children.

Buddhist Library is part of Buddhist Research Society, a non-profit
organisation. The proceeds of the funfair will go to the building fund to pay
towards the mortgage on the Buddhist Library.

Each year, we would invite performers who charge us nothing or a nominal fee. It
would be good if you could assist us and perform at the Buddhist Library. Please
therefore let us hear from you soon. Until then, I will keep my fingers crossed.

On the administrative part, if your reply is favourable, please let us have the
names of individual performers, their nric, citizenship, address, date of birth
and a description of the performance and whether music is played etc as required
by Media Development Authority.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely
Heather

Dear all,

It would seem like our usual practise area is not accessible this week.

Anyone wanna juggle at Bradell (OnePeople.sg) instead?

Dear Yvonne,

Mountbatten Youth Executive Committee (YEC) would like to invite you and your
group of enthusiast team of Jugglers to make a special appearance on our event
"Brunch at the Park", an extreme sports competition, held at Xtreme SkatePark @
East Coast Park, Singapore's first international standard Skate Park to carter
to Extreme Sports Enthusiasts, a joint development by MCYS and NParks.

The event would take place on 4 October 2009, from 9am to 5pm and we would like
to invite you and your team to make appearance on the event from 1pm to 5.00pm
during the intervals of the finals of the Skateboard Competition. Mr Lim Biow
Chuan, Adviser to Marine Parade Grassroots Organisations, would be gracing the
event .

"Brunch by the Park" is a family-oriented carnival that will help to bring the
community together to experience the positive role of a skate park in the
community. Some of the events include Skateboarding Competition and
Demonstration, BMX Bicycle Competition and Demonstration, Flea Market, Live
Band Performance, Graffiti Showcase, and Photography Contest. Unlike the
upcoming ESPN event, "Brunch by the Park" targets up-and-coming local talents,
and aims to provide opportunities for them to showcase their skills. We hope
that you and your group could help us create a more Family festival atmosphere.

It's been a pleasure conversing with you. If you guys are interested please pass
us your logo so that it can be included in our stage backdrop. Thank you and
hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
Iswandie Wanhar

Hi there,

been a little quiet in this group lately. Below is an email I got from Okto
people. They're looking for jugglers to teach juggling on their show.

Anyone interested? Can contact them directly or we could bounce ideas around
here and get a rep to connect with them.

I don't mind doing it. Don't mind not doing it too.

Dear Yvonne,

This is Aileen. As per our conversation, here are the details.

We are student producers for oktoLIVE! , a TV series for MediaCorp¡¯s okto!
Channel.

oktoLIVE! is a 17-part-half-hour info-tainment series specially created for
children aged 4 ¨C 12 year old. This is the first time such show is being
created locally. The show will be aired ¡°live¡± every Friday, 6.30pm, starting
from 30th October 2009.

One of the segments, ¡°ok-to LEARN¡±, is a 4-minute 'learning experience' where
our target audiences get to learn something ¨C it could be something fun, or
something useful! We are looking at the possibility of having Juggling as one
of the topics for the show. It could be something along the lines of having a
group of jugglers(2 to 3 jugglers) to teach some basic steps of juggling and
maybe even have a child juggler or two to demonstrate some moves.

They may also be asked to give a short performance during the segment.

If your team/group is interested, please drop us a reply with the following
information:

a) Names of Team/Group
b) What can you offer to teach on the show
c) Further information about the 10-year-old boy as per our conversation (i.e.
what he can do, any video clip of him, etc)

d) What are the things that your group have tried to use to juggle before or do
your group know of any unique juggling tricks? (It will be good to provide a
video link or attach any video(s) with your reply)

e) Names of members and contact details (with the leader's name in bold)

Do feel free to contact myself or Jovis, if you have any further queries.

We hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience, if possible, by the 25th
of September.

Thanks and regards,

Aileen Tan

Surprise, surprise, we're STILL playing unicycle hockey on Thursday evenings at the court behind Blk 51 New Upper Changi Road from 7:30pm - 10pm. Drop by and lose some flab - we know you're all getting fat.
Directions are here http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_34167/travel_site_72548/
The area is about a 5 minute walk from Tanah merah MRT - use the left Exit and turn left. Walk straight, cross the road and you'll see a school and a bus stop. Walk more and you'll see the signs pointing to the flats.

I'll be bringing my slackline along as well as juggling rings so anyone who's interested to learn some tricks can drop by too. If you can't ride a unicycle, we've spares around so we can teach you the basics.

------------

To the Unicyclists - those of you who've yet to collect your tees, please either

- Turn up on Thursday to collect it BUT drop me an sms or email before hand so I will bring it.
- If you're never turning up, pay an extra $2 and I'll post it to your house.
- Find a friend who's turning up on Thursday to collect it.

See you all around.
