Did you guys caught the diabolo performance in "Circus Princess 2001" on TV over
1st day of CNY?

It was simply amazing what those Chinese ladies can do:
- 5 pirouettes with a single high toss
- 2-diabolo toss up followed by 3 jump-rope skips, caught the 2-diabolos again
and immediately tossed up followed by a backward somersault and clean catch of
the falling diabolos.
- 4-diabolo shower
- and much more.... and done gracefully with a smile all the time.

On 2nd day, the "Penn and Teller Magic and Mystery Tour of China" was very
amusing too. I found that they have another two shows covering Egypt and India.

I have these on tape so if anyone interested can get from me.

Happy CNY!

Hello jugglers

I have called Priscilla of National Youth Council to leave the stage light keys
at the coffee shop.

You know the drill. If you're there early, pick up the keys so that you can use
the stage lights. At the end of the session after all of us are done, switch
off everything and lock the light switch box and return the keys to NYC by
dumping the keys into their letterbox.

See you later,

I was there at the Esplanade juggling alone and wasn't disturbed at all!
Don't know about Unicycling though. Was facing the Merlion and juggling
with my space balls that glows in the dark. A few people stopped and looked
and I started to feel weird. I stopped juggling 3 balls and started tried
my 5 ball routine.

The crowd dispersed straight away. HAhahaha... cause I was dropping them
all the time and never once did the complete 5 catch. After that, I
practised balloon sculpting and gave away some of my distorted experiments
to kids who wants them. No security guards came and grab me though.

Maybe i was lucky?

O well. I don't unicycle so i won't know the regulations there about that.

Esplanade is a place for the Arts but Singapore is still too stiff and
strict with it's limitless regulations. Especially if it's a 650 million
facade that's relatively new. But I intend to push the limits and juggle
there for a while.

Will tell you if i get arrested. I'll update you guys here.

Hahaha.....don't be surprise. I was once told to get off East Coast Park by
POLICEMEN in a POLICE PATROL CAR. That is after they check my IC and
confirmed that I was a Singaporean. Reason. I was juggling there and was
practising for the National Day Parade! What irony!

Was told to take my juggling elsewhere.

They must have been afraid that i was busking for money. DUH! O well,
they were strict.

WELL, that is news. If people can kick a football or throw a frisbee around in
a park or public place, I don't see why one can't practise juggling in the open.
And anyway, just how can anyone practice a performing art without performing?

There is Something about the talk to make Singapore a vibrant arts hub that
simply does not make sense. Go figure; I daren't write it down here in case
this site is being monitored, ha.

Terence, I'm particularly upset at hearing about your bad experience with the
men-in-blue at the East Coast Park, because I used to practice there quite a lot
without breaking the law. Gee whiz, what's going on now? Here's something to
share anyhow. If one practices facing a wall or away from people traffic, then
one can't be accused of busking for money. It's called practicing in
public..."I'm not busking; I'm practicing...the ceiling at home is too low and I
can't afford the money to rent the facilities at the neighbourhood community
centres." :-D

cheers
Chi Minh

Hi Folks!

I hope that you all had a good CNY celebration last week. It was a bit
quiet, though, at our unicycling on Tues 4th :-(
Anyway... as usual, we are having a unicycling session at Singapore Poly
this Tuesday 11th Feb, from 6.30 to 9.30 pm.

How to get there?

Go to Dover MRT. Enter the poly, and walk on (with the MRT behind you)
towards the multi purpose pitch that is behind Teaching Block T14. We're in
the corner at the street soccer enclosure by the new "Food Haven@SP"
.
In the case of rain, we'll be indoors, under food court 4.

Absolute beginners are welcome. (Infact, we're about 80% beginners!) I'm
also intending to bring the 5-foot giraffe unicycle - if it's not raining,
that is!

Do come on down... It's fun!

Best regards, for the Year of the Giraffe - sorry - Goat :-p

Hi guys and gals,

Open the attachment. My colleague was selling this CD at the Singapore Expo
recently. It's a CD which helps you relax, focus and actually helps you to
concentrate better and help you remember more things easily. It's quite a
good CD ... I bought one myself.
The price of the CD is $49.95 but if you want it, I can get it at the
discount price which was what it was sold at, during the Singapore Expo
seminar - $29.95. Although the discount period is over, he's my colleague,
so he'll sell it to me cheaper!
Let me know if you want it. Email or call me at 90233545.
Thank you.

Kamal

hi kamal, i know you have good intentions to benefit everyone, but i think
we should try to observe a Golden Rule on this yahoogroup: NO SPAM... that
is, we should not post anything that can be seen as being commercial
advertising. some exceptions can be made if it's related to juggling,
otherwise, please, let's refrain from anything even a little spam-like.

another rule we should try to keep: NO ATTACHMENTS, unless they are
juggling-related. attachments clog up valuable space and may contain
viruses.

thanks very much, hope we can keep the jugglers yahoogroup nice and
spam-free for everybody, and focused on what it's meant for: juggling!

cheers

If anyone wants to buy a unicycle, it's best to get an expensive one. It
doesn't break so fast, and works out cheaper in the long run.
Also, the cheap unicycles available in Singapore generally have uncomfy
seats, and are too short for many adults.
I reccommend saving up and buying from overseas.
The makes which I know are good include Semcycles, Miyatas and DMs.
My miyata pro cost $295 US, plus $80 US postage. (This made it $ 637.50
sing, so it's still cheaper than a two wheeled bike!)
Alternatively, you could call me. I have some good quality 2nd hand ones for
sale. Also, my relatives often visit England so maybe they could bring a new
one over!

This is Ben.
Just got back from the UK and looking forward to unicycling again!

Unicycling at Singapore Poly
this Tuesday 18th Feb, from 6.30 to 9.30 pm.

How to get there?

Go to Dover MRT. Enter the poly, and walk on (with the MRT behind you)
towards the multi purpose pitch that is behind Teaching Block T14. We're in
the corner at the street soccer enclosure by the new "Food
Haven@SP"
.
In the case of rain, we'll be indoors, under food court 4.

Absolute beginners are welcome. (Infact, we're about 80% beginners!)
Do come on down... It's fun!

Hi,
I spoke to Elaine from Mediacorp today. She told me that she was
busy the past few weeks and had no time to meet up with us. Sufang,
her colleague, will be meeting up with us instead. I spoke to her
today and suggested Friday. But I'll have to confirm with you people
first. Is Friday ok? Can you email me? I also spoke to her
regarding payment. There is a videotape she wants to show us.. some
japanese group juggling. We can't watch it at the youth park right?
She suggested we go to mediacorp to watch it. How?

Hi,

Does anyone have any juggling balls to give away or sell? I want
them for practice. I'm using tennis balls to practice presently but
would like to use proper juggling balls instead.
It would be great if you have 5 balls to give away or sell. Let me
know.
Thanks!

Hi Kamal,

Water filled juggling balls are very good for me already as their sizes is about
the same as Dube stage balls.

Do you already know how to make them from used tennis balls?
Steps:
1) Take a syringe needle (only the needle part)
2) Poke it into the ball at the rubber lining.
3) Squeeze out as much air from the tennis ball.
4) Then invert it over a cup of water and let it suck in water.
5) Repeat until ball is of nice weight ~ 130g

Further, you can decorate the balls using rubber balloons as show here
http://www.multihobbies.com/juggling/balls.htm

Water filled balls don't bounced as much. But still can be used for some force
bounce juggling!

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thank you Meiling and Yvonne, responding. Ive emailed Sufang and
told her that we'll try to meet up next week. So far, the people, or
rather the jugglers, included are, Meiling, Yvonne, Ming Chiang and
myself.
We'll arrange for a day next week. Do tell me the days you guys
prefer. Don't forget that we'll probably have to go down to
mediacorp to watch the videotape, unless you have another place in
mind.
So let's keep one another informed.
Thank you.

Hi,

I'm looking for juggling balls. Any colour except white. Do any of
you have any balls for sale. Do let me know? Thank you.
And thanks Koah Fong for teaching me how to make the tennis balls
heavier using water and thus more suitable for juggling. I'm just
looking for some proper juggling balls. I hope someone can sell me
theirs. It would be great if you at least have five! =)
Thanks!
