His Divine Grace Om Vishnupada 108 Sri Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami
Maharaja: A Brief Account of His Holy Life

By His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaja President/Acharya
of the Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, India and devoted disciple of His Divine
Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaja

( 3rd March in west and 4th March in India, is his disappearance Day)

Adapted from the three-volume biography written in Bengali, presently
available through Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, An Engligh edition of this
complete biography, which includes extensive intimate anecdotes, stimilating
lectures, enlightening spiritual conversations and invaluable insight into
the History of the Gaudiya Sampradaya in the Twentieth century, is presently
being prepared by GOKUL.

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami
Maharaja, one of His Divine Grace Om 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta
Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada's favorite disciples, is the tenth Acharya in
the preceptorial channel from Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and is the
Founder/Acharya of Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, Registered Institution. His
auspicious appearance occurred in the village of Kanchanpara, Subdivision
Madaripur, District Faridpur in East Bengal (now in Bangladesh) on Friday,
November 18th - Utthan Ekadasi Tithi - in the year 1904 AD at 0800 AM. As
the pastime of the Awakening of the All-Merciful, All-Good, All-Blissful
Supreme Lord, Sri Hari, on Utthan Ekadasi Tithi (Utthan awakening) is for
the eternal good of all the living beings of the world, the pastime of the
Advent-Awakening of His Personal Associate, His Absolute Counterpart Gurudev
(Madhava Goswami Maharaja), on Utthan Ekadasi Tithi is also for the eternal
benefit of all. Param Pujyapad Most Revered Srimad Bhakti Pramode Puri
Goswami Maharaja used to comment, "It is profoundly significant that the
Advent Day of Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaja falls on the
Disappearance day of Srimad Gaur Kishore Das Babaji Maharaja on Utthan
Ekadasi Tithi and His Disappearance Day falls on the Disappearance day of
Vaishnav-Sarvabhauma Srimad Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaja on Sukla Pratipad
Tithi (the first lunar day of bright fortnight)."

The Holy Birthplace of Srimad Madhava Goswami Maharaja is situated at the
bank of the Padma River, which is near Premtoli where Srila Narottama Thakur
experienced ecstatic feelings of Divine Love while bathing as per the
direction given by Srimad Nityananda Prabhu in a dream. Sri Gauranga
Mahaprabhu kept Divine Love in the custody of Padmavati Devi (the Presiding
Deity of the Padma River) to offer it to Narottama Thakur when he would come
there to take bath.

Revered Bhakti Dayita Madhava Maharaja was born of a high caste Brahmin
family. His Grandfather, Sri Chandi Prasad Deva Sarma Bandyopadhyaya, was a
well-reputed prominent person of Vikrampur, Dacca (Bangladesh). His father's
name was Sri Nishikanta Deva Sarma Bandyopadhyaya; His mother's name was
Srimati Saibalini Devi. His mother was of a highly dignified, sober
temperament, a wise woman endowed with many good qualities, and as such, an
object of reverence to all. His father passed away in His childhood. His
parents named Him Sri Heramba Bandyopadhyaya. His pet name was Ganesh.
Extraordinary saintly qualities were manifested in Him from boyhood. He was
adored by all and was a universally accepted leader in every sphere. He
strictly observed ethical rules and celibacy (Brahmacharya) and taught
others to observe celibacy and moral rules. His guardians and teachers were
astonished to hear profound words of wisdom from the boy. At the age of
eleven years, He memorized the complete Gita, merely by hearing it from his
mother. He practiced severe penance by taking only boiled food once in a day
in his home at Calcutta. At that time while He was invoking Sri Krishna for
His Grace and was weeping severely in the grief of separation from Krishna,
He was blessed by seeing Sri Narada Goswami in a dream and received Mantra
from Him. However, He could not remember the Mantra completely after waking
from the dream. He became disappointed, and out of persistent
solicitousness, left the house and went to the Himalayan Mountains beyond
Haridwar where He stayed at a stretch without food for three days,
continuously wailing and praying for the Grace of Sri Krishna. At last, He
heard a prophetic, divine message directing Him, "Go back to your place.
Don't be disheartened. Your Gurudev has appeared there-- take absolute
shelter of His Lotus Feet." He then came down from the mountains, remained
for sometime at Haridwar and later returned to Calcutta.

He went with fiends to Sri Mayapur, the Holy Birth-Place of Lord Sri
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and met His Gurudeva, His Divine Grace Srimad Bhakti
Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada at Sri Chaitanya Math in the year
1925 AD. He was attracted to Him upon seeing His Divine Spiritual
Personality. Taking absolute shelter at His Lotus Feet, He took initiation
from Him at Sri Gaudiya Math, at 1, Ultadanga Junction Road, Calcutta on
November 1, 1927 AD. He joined the Sri Gaudiya Math Institution immediately
after taking initiation and also made His devout vow of celibacy, even
though young of age. Within a very short time, He was regarded as one of the
favorite disciples among the entourage of Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati
Goswami Prabhupada. This was due to His devout devotion to Guru, His
competence in rendering all kinds of service, and His untiring enthusiasm
and diligence to serve Vishnu and the Vaishnavas. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta
Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada, seeing His undaunted spirit to contribute to
the objective of the Institution by way of practicing and propagating the
Gospel of Divine Love of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, used to commend Him by
saying, "His energy is volcanic energy". Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati
Goswami Prabhupada never hesitated to send Him to perform any important task
or to send Him out as an advance party because He was confident and sure
that the task at hand would be successfully completed in due course. Srila
Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada had so much confidence in
Srimad Hayagriva Das Brahmachari (Madhava Goswami Maharaja), that He first
selected Him to be sent to foreign countries for preaching, for which
purpose His Passport and all necessities were ready. But Rajarshi Sri
Saradindu Narayan Ray, one important household devotee, objected to this
proposal saying that Sri Hayagriva Das Brahmachari was young and very
beautiful, "There may be difficulty in sending such a beautiful, young
Brahmachari to foreign countries. Instead an old Sannyasi should be sent
there." At his suggestion, Param Pujyapad Srimad Bhakti Pradeep Tirtha
Maharaja was sent instead. Srimad Hayagriva Das Brahmachari resembled His
Divine Grace Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada in appearance so
much, that many outside people wrongly thought Him to be the son of Srimad
Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami.

Srimad Madhava Maharaja took Tridanda Sannyas at the age of forty from his
God-brother, His Divine Grace Srimad Bhakti Gourav Vaikhanas Maharaja (a
Sannyas disciple of Srila Prabhupada Bhakti Siddhanta), at Sri Tota-Gopinath
Temple, Purushottam Dham on Gaura-purnima in the year 1944. He became
renowned in the Gaudiya Math as His Divine Grace Parivrajaka Acharya
Tridandi Swami Srimad Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaja. As per the
direct instruction of His Divine Grace Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati
Goswami Prabhupada, His Divine Grace Madhava Goswami Maharaja started His
preaching in Assam and established three Maths at: [1] Tezpur, [2] Guwahati
and [3] Goalpara. He also managed the seva-puja of Sorbhog Sri Gaudiya Math
(in Assam), founded by Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur. He
founded the Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math Institution in 1953 and established
many large preaching centers in various parts of India.

Sri Krishna Kirtanaya Namah!

Generally when we write letters or articles we pray to the grace of Guru and Gauranga - Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Jayathau, all glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga, like that. But Srila Bhakti Siddantha Saraswathi Thakur Goswami, our Param Gurudev has written - Sri Krishna Kirtanaya Namah! Have you seen it? You have not seen it? At the beginning, ‘Sri Krishna Kirtanaya Namah!’ How is it? Why is he bowing down to Sri Krishna Kirtan. You make obeisances to a person. Krishna Kirtan is sound - Sri Krishna Kirtanaya Namah? Sri Krishnaya Namah, Sri Ramaya Namah, Sri Narayanaya Namah - we can understand. Sri Krishna Kirtanaya Namah! What is this? We cannot understand. But he is teaching us that Sri Krishna Kirtan and Sri Krishna are identical. But we do not understand this - there is no difference between Sri Krishna Kirtan and Sri Krishna. If there is a difference then that is a material sound. In material sound, the object indicated by the sound and the sound are different. If we utter the name ‘water, water, water’, it does not quench our thirst. ‘Water’ sound, is not ‘water’ thing. By the ‘water’ sound we are targeting ‘water’ thing. ‘Water’ thing and ‘water’ sound are different in material sound. If I utter the name ‘fire’, the ‘fire’ word does not burn my tongue. Fire! Fire! Fire! Difference. We are indicating the thing ‘fire’ by the word ‘fire’. You may use any other words as per your convenience. But the name of Bhagavan and He Himself are identical. Nama Cintamani... In Bhakti-Rasmrita Sindhu you will find this verse quoted from Padma Purana. Nama Cintamani... The name is ‘Cintamani’ - whatever you desire in the name you will get it. You desire mundane things, you will get it. You should not have mundane desires when you are performing Hari Nam. It is also one of the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in fourth verse of Sikshatakam: na dhanam na janam na sundarim, kavitam va jagadisa kamaya, mama janmani janmanisvare, bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is teaching us ‘What we have to desire from God.’ If anybody has any motive in performing bhajans, he will get that. He will be deprived from the eternal welfare. You should not have this desire in your mind when performing Hari Nam. ‘I do not want wealth. I do not want manpower, increase members in the family. I do not want emancipation, salvation or worldly learning I do not want. Please give me one pointed exclusive devotion to Sri Krishna. I do not want any other…’ - unalloyed devotion. This we should ask. Otherwise we will be deprived of eternal welfare. Ultimately we will be disappointed. While performing bhajans we have to be careful about this. The first attainment is - by performing Nama Sankirtan your mind will be cleansed. You are not to perform yogic meditation, not this. Only you should perform Nam Sankirtan in the company of bonafide sadhus, Sudha Bhaktas. You should perform Nama Sankirtan.

All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!!

The moment we shall submit to Sri Krishna unconditionally, our all ills and sufferings will go. A surrendered soul has got no separate desire of his own. He is happy in whatever circumstances he is put to by the will of His beloved Supreme Master.

Sharangati is of sixfold. We are to Practice it :

1. We are to accept all that is congenial for pure devotion.
2. Give up all that is not congenial.
3.Should have firm faith that Sri Krishna will protect us under all circumstances --- from outside foes and inside foes (Passions).
4. He is the only Sustainer and Maintainer of our real and apparent selves.
5. We all belong to Him i.e., we are of Him (Atmanivendan).
6. We should give up all material egos --- should think we are spiritual spark -- minutest part of the marginal potency (tatastha Shakti)of supreme Lord Sri Krishna, i.e. we should be humble than the blade of grass.

A completely surrendered soul has no cause of being worried under any circumstances, under any pressure in this most transitory world. Supreme Lord Sri Krishna protects and sustains always a bonafide surrendered soul. According to our Karma we get congenial and uncongenial  environments. Nobody is to be blamed for this.

All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!
First Principle of Surrender: Dainya : Humility
Song 1
1) O Lord, I forgot You and came to this material world, where I have
experienced a host of pains and sorrows. Now I approach Your lotus feet and submit my tale of woe.
2) While still bound up tightly in the unbearable confines of my mother's womb, O Lord, You once revealed Yourself before me. Appearing only briefly, You then abandoned this poor servant of Yours.
3) At that moment I thought, "After my birth, I will worship You." But alas, after taking birth I fell into the entangling network of worldly illusions; thus I possessed not even a drop of true knowledge.
4) As a dear son fondled in the laps of relatives, I passed my time smiling and laughing. The affection of my father and mother helped me to forget You still more, and I began to think that the material world was a very nice place.
5) Day by day I gradually grew into a young boy and began playing with other boys. Soon my powers of understanding emerged, so I diligently read and
studied my school lessons every day.
6) Proud of my accomplished education, later I traveled from place to place and earned much wealth. Thereby maintaining my family with undivided
attention, I forgot You, O Lord Hari! 7) Now in old age, this Bhaktivinoda very sadly weeps. I failed to worship You, O Lord, and instead passed my days in vain. What will be my fate now?

Sri Sri Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!!
Saranagati - Humility - 2
1) With great enthusiasm I spent my time in the pleasures of mundane
learning, and never worshiped Your lotus feet, O Lord. Now You are my only shelter.
2) Reading on and on, my hopes grew and grew, for I considered the
aquisition of material knowledge to be life's true goal. How fruitless those hopes turned out to be, for all my knowledge proved feeble. Now I know that all such erudition is actually pure ignorance.
3) All the so-called knowledge of this world is born of the flickering
potency of Your illusory energy (mäyä). It is an impediment to the execution of devotional service to You. Indulgence in mundane knowledge verily makes an ass of the eternal soul by encouraging his infatuation with this
temporary world.
4) Here is one person who has been turned into such an ass, who for so long has carried on his back the useless burden of material existence. Now in my old age, for want of the power to enjoy, I find that nothing at all pleases me.
5) Life has now become agony, for my so-called erudite knowledge has proven itself to be worthless ignorance. Material knowledge has now become a
pointed shaft and has pierced my heart with the intolerable, burning pain of ignorance.
6) O Lord, there is no treasure worth seeking in this world other than Your lotus feet. Bhaktivinoda abandons all his mundane knowledge and makes Your lotus feet the sum and substance of his life.

Sri Sri Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!!

This human birth is precious. More precious, almost unattainable I should say, is the association of a bonafide sadhu. It is difficult to get bonafide sadhus; bonafide sadhu not in words. A sadhu practically performs bhajans, engaging all senses for the service of Radha Krishna, Gauranga Mahaprabhu; every moment. He sets an example of worshipping Supreme Lord. You rarely find. By getting this human birth, getting this opportunity and coming in contact with sudha bhakta, if you do not realize then you are most unfortunate. What do we do? By coming in contact with sadhus, what we do? We go to the sadhus, go to the temple for getting temporary material benefits. We go to the sadhus to ask for a son, “You give me a son, a beautiful wife, give me wealth, money.” You will get it. Great sinners have got money. Without committing sin nobody can get money. You go there. Why you have come here to the sadhus to get temporary benefits? If they are bonafide sadhus they cannot give you this. They cannot deceive. They cannot give temporary things by which ultimately they will repent. They cannot deceive the world. Sadhus cannot deceive. Go to the sinners. They have the wealth and everything, why you have come to the sadhus? A bonafide sadhu is seldom to be found and actually who are speaking of Hari Katha, glories of the Supreme Lord, is seldom to be found. Those who are not an example, those who themselves are not performing bhajans, cannot speak about Krishna. Platform speakers cannot speak about Krishna. Those who are business type, platform speakers, professional, “You give me $500 I will speak.” He is speaking about money not about Krishna. If you speak about Krishna, Krishna will protect you. If you have no belief what is the use of performing bhajans? If you take shelter of a human being, serve him, he will be forced to protect you; any human being. He may be a mischievous person but if you go to his house without wanting anything and you go on serving him, he will be forced to protect you. Supreme Lord, Lord of all Lords, protecting and sustaining all, if you take shelter He will protect you.

All Glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!

In a town in Bengal, there was a man who worked in an office. He lived with his wife and two children. One of the children was only three or four months old and the other was seven years old. One day, the man told his wife, "You will have to prepare breakfast early today because I have to go into the office early. After I eat, I shall leave right away." When the wife went to cook, she first put the baby on the bed and then went into the kitchen. But, whenever she would enter the kitchen, the child would cry. She thought, "With the child in my lap, how will I be able to cook? It is very difficult." She was thinking what she should do. Then she thought of a way she could manage. She called the seven-year-old child.

"Darling, come here!" she called. "Do you know that red toy in the shop?"

"Yes, I know it," the child answered.

"Go and buy that toy, but be sure that it makes a nice jingling sound."

The child took some money and went off to buy the toy. He brought it home and gave it to the mother. The mother laid the baby down on the bed and hung the red-colored toy with the jingling sound above him, at the end of a rope. The baby saw the toy and immediately started to play with it, hitting it from side to side. The child was most delighted as he continued to slap the toy and hear the jingling sound. For one hour he played like that, and the mother went to do her cooking. After that, the child started to feel hungry. For the entire time that the child was playing, he did not remember his mother. But, now that he felt hungry, he thought, "Oh, where is my mother?" But his mother did not come. Then, he started crying, signifying, "I am hungry! Come!" He could not speak, so he beckoned his mother by crying. "Come to me and suckle me! I am hungry!" His mother, however, was busy cooking. "No," she thought, "let the child cry."

After some time, the child stopped crying and went back to playing with the toy---jingle, jingle, jingle. After playing like that for a while, the pangs of hunger returned. His hunger increased and increased and he became more and more unhappy. He began to cry for his mother even more loudly than before.

His mother heard the crying of the baby, but thought that she should first finish her cooking.

Finally, the hunger became unbearable for the child. The child thought, "I don't want toys!" All he could think about was his mother.
His crying became louder and louder until he was screaming. He started to throw his arms about and kick his legs, in a tantrum.

Then the mother thought, "Oh, I cannot stay away any longer!" The mother ran toward the child, embraced him and suckled him.

Like this, the Supreme Lord has given us toys---the toy of a wife or husband, toys of children, toys of buildings, toys of radios, toys of videos, toys of computers. Seeing this, Krsna thinks, "They are absorbed in their toys! I have no worries. I am engaged in My pastimes in the transcendental realm. They do not want this. They want those things instead. Here, take this computer! Take that video! Take this! Take that!"

Upon the awakening of his real self (atma), a man feels the want of the sweetest affection of the Supreme Lord. He cries, "Oh Supreme Lord! In this world, nothing gives me happiness. Everything is temporary. Everyone is selfish. You are my most beloved! Where are You? I have forgotten You! Come! Come! I am in a furnace! Come! Come!" Weeping, he calls, but Krsna does not come. "I am engaged in My pastimes," Krsna says. For some time, the man then becomes absorbed in the affairs of his family and relatives, and forgets Krsna. Time passes and he cries again, "Where is My beloved Supreme Lord? Where is He?" Crying, crying. But, the Supreme Lord still does not come. Ultimately, he shouts, "I do not want a house! I do not want anything! Nobody is mine---You are mine! Oh beloved Supreme Lord! Come! Come! Come!" He cries and weeps, tossing his arms and legs about. Then Krsna cries, "Oh!" and comes to him. This sort of perturbation of the heart, extreme eagerness for getting Bhagavan, must be there.

When we associate with the suddha bhakta who is crying for Krsna, then the eternal nature of atma will be awakened. You have love for God. Love is there in your soul. It exists, but it is presently enveloped by the external potency of the Supreme Lord and you have become averse to Sri Krsna. Passing through different species, our minds have become enveloped by so many evil desires.

All Glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!

In the mood of the gopis, saturated with gopi-bhava, Caitanya Mahaprabhu pulled the chariot from the Jagannatha Temple (Kuruksetra) towards Gundica (Vrndavana). During the chariot festival, Krsna, Baladeva and Subhadra make the trip in three chariots.

The day before the festival, Caitanya Mahaprabhu told the devotees, "You see, Krsna will come to the Gundica Temple tomorrow. You must come with Me and cleanse the temple." "Cleansing the temple" means that you must remove all the thorns and rubbish outside and trim the grass. You must clear the path of any stones and sweep away all the dust with a broom. But it also means that you are to engage your sense organs for the service of Krsna. If you do not engage your sense organs for Him, you will not get Him. For this reason, you have to clear your heart of all desires for the attainment of material benefits, both here and hereafter, in heaven. If such desire is there, Krsna will not come. The desire for non-eternal benefits and emancipation, the desire to merge yourself in formless Brahman, the desire to merge yourself in Paramatma, these sorts of desires will deter you from going to Krsna. Krsna will not come to you. For this reason, you have to clear all of this away-these desires are like hard stones. Outside, you clear them away with brooms, and all the devotees bring earthen pots full of water to wash everything. After this, there should be no desire for name and fame and other such things. All of this should be totally removed. For this reason, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, with the help of His own uttri (the cloth that a sannyasi wears around his neck), scrubbed the inside of the temple. There should not be any kind of material desires within the heart, not even those hidden secretly. Then Krsna will come tomorrow.

Krsna is coming here from the Jagannatha Temple, and you have to clear these unwanted things away. This means that you have to clear your mind. There should be no other desire except desire for Krsna. Krsna is coming to Vrndavana. Krsna is the only Autocrat there. No other ideas, forces or persons should dominate your heart, except Krsna. So, you have to make your heart the same as Vrndavana, where Krsna is solely dominant. He is the Sole Proprietor. Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, "I have made this mind Vrndavana, so that Krsna will be free, free to perform all His pastimes and sporting activities." You have to make your mind Vrndavana. No one else should be allowed to enter, and no other thoughts should be allowed.

Dear Prabhu,
Dandvat Pranams. How are you? I am very sorry for the delay in replying

surgery but actually, the cardiologist in New Delhi (who is also
treating His Divine Grace Srila Narayan Maharaj) will examine Gurudeva on
the
7th April. That should give a much more clear picture. The last time we
asked him about going through surgery and he said it was not sure that even
after surgery the angina will be gone. For some reason, he is reluctant
about
surgery. Anyway, Srila Gurudeva has been going on His preaching tours but
with a
lot of restrictions than before. Still the angina is occurring
occasionally, so I think so we will deeply think about His preaching
activities again
after the analysis of the doctors.

I will mail you again after we meet the doctor in Delhi. From Delhi, we
leave for Chandigarh where we will have grand celebrations of
Vyasa-Puja of Srila Gurudeva on the holy day of Ram Navami (11th April).

Hare Krishna.

## Santana Dharma
Due to the lack of real knowledge about the subject matter of Sanatana
Dharma', now-a-days asanatana dharma is being spread as sanatana dharma.
People, lacking the knowledge of the real meaning of sanatana dharma, are
considering sanatana dharma as the religion of Hindus only; which is very
limited conception. What is the real meaning of sanatana dharma? Following
is an excerpt from a lecture given by the president-acharya of Sree Caitanya
Gaudiya Math, Sree Srimad Bhakti Ballabha Tirtha Goswami Maharaj on the
topic of sanatana dharma.

Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaj

Dear friends,
Dandavat pranams.
Friday 11 April 2003 is both the holy appearance day of Sri Ramachandra (Ramnavami) as well as of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaj, who advented on that auspicious day in 1924.  GOKUL will be sending Srila Gurudeva a small collection of written offerings from the lotus pens (and computers) of his disciples, friends and well-wishers.  If you would like us to include your Vyasa-puja offering in this year's collection, kindly forward it to us at bhakti@... no later than Thursday evening 10 April 2003 (London time).

The last update we have received on the state of Srila Gurudeva's health tells us that he is still experiencing occasional angina pain in the chest.  On Monday 7 April, he will be seeing the same cardiologist in New Delhi who is presently treating Srila Narayan Maharaj.  Srila Gurudeva has been going on His preaching tours, but with much attention given to restricting over-exertion.  His servants will reassess his continued preaching schedule after deliberating on the doctor's advice.

For more information on Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaj, or to read articles by His Divine Grace, kindly visit the GOKUL website at http://www.gokul.org

All glories to Sri Guru and Gaurang,
Please accept my Dandvat Pranam,
In Oct. 2002 after Guru Maharaj's Darshan in Govardhan I went to my Home
town of REWA MP. I became sick ( food Poisoning) and Doctors in REWA were
saying " you will be all right after few days". Then I had to go to
Jabalpur which is bigger city and there the doctors put me on IV.
In India Doctors keep on trying to get more money from patient not
realizing that the patient is getting serious.
I believe that Sri GURU Maharaj needs to consult Heart Surgeons who could
advice better. Taking advice from one doctor is dangerous. If the
arteries are blocked which can be tested by angioscopy then open heart
surgery is the best. Here in America it is common to get surgery at the
age of 80 or even 90. Quality of life is more important than just living
in pain. I hope some of you who are in immediate service of Sri Guru
Maharaj would listen and go to two or three different surgeons for second
or third opinion.

Dear Prabhujis and Matajis,

   Hare Krishna and Pranam.

It is very sad to hear that Guru Maharaj again had a
severe angina when he was in Jallandhar. Food there
and travel did not suit him causing gastric problem.
This had an effect on the heart and Guru Mahraj was
brought back to Chandigarh and now given rest.
Saturday was tough day for all the devotees. Many
became restless because of Guruji's health. Yesterday,
we called Chandigarh to know that he was alright. But
whatever damage has taken place cannot be cured. Rest
is best now.

Guruji, though an eternal associate of Sri Krishna and
Sriman Mahaprabhu, had come to this material world to
save all of us. He is exhibiting the pastimes of a
conditioned soul to show us how in a conditioned state
also a jiva can do bhajan. Any person thinking this to
be suffering of an ordinary person is assured of hell.
He is not an ordinary soul like us.

I know very well that if he desires no one can stop
him but we are in a conditioned state and we need him
here forever. What service can we do to Lord? He is
not in need of any servants. Similarly, Guru is also
never in need of servants. But it is for their benefit
he gives service. When our Param gurudev, Nityalila
pravista om Vishnupad Sri Srimat Bhakti Dayita Madhav
Goswami Maharaj was also exhibiting the pastimes of
illness our Gurudev Parampujyapad Tridandi Swami Sri
Srimat Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj went to
Govardhan and circumambulated for the betterment of
his Gurudev's health. By this he has shown us an
example of Guru bhakti. Being his disciples,
completely knowing that nothing can go against his
will, some senior god brothers have decided to do
parikrama to Sri Sri Giriraj Govardhan on 3rd May.
Some devotees are doing dandawat parikrama to Giriraj.
Many devotees from all over India and may be from
world will be assembling there in Vrindavan to do
Parikrama to Sri Sri Giriraj. Intersted may kindly
participate. Giriraj is very merciful and our wish
will be fulfilled. This Parikrama will be solely for
the purpose of Guruji's health and no other desire
should be prevailing in anyone's heart.

Yesterday, we did Narasimha kirtan praying to the
Lord. Those who are not in a position to attend the
parikrama, may please mentally do on that day or any
other day. Daily sing Narasimha Pranam mantras.

Finally, Guru Maharaj's health is improving slowly but
all his preaching needs to be cut and complete rest
needs to be given.

Sri Sri Giriraj ki Jai!
Sri Sri Narasimha Dev ki Jai!
Sri Srila Guru Maharaj ki jai!

Vaisnava Dasanudas,
Prasad

Amar Bhajan - My Devotional Practice-1

                   - His Divine Grace Tridandi Swami Bhakti Dayita Madhav
Maharaja

I have left material life for quite some time. Why have I done so? Simply to
engage in the devotional service. What type of devotion? Devotion in
practice to Lord Krishna . Why Sri Krishna? Lord Sri Krishna is the cause of
all causes and my eternal connection is with Him. Who is Lord Krishna? Lord
Sri Krishna is the reservoir of all complete blissful existence and has the
ability to attract all other living entities (all attractive) by virtue of
giving bliss and happiness. He is replete with unlimited knowledge and the
seers of the Truth know Him in His three-fold aspect of complete knowledge,
existence and bliss.

Who am I? I am His inherent part and parcel, always having an eternal link
with the form of Sri Krishna present in me.

What type of link? The link is eternal in all respects. Sri Krishna has two
potencies: material and spiritual (para and apara). The spiritual (para)
aspect of the pure, casual soul and the apara aspect of Sri Krishna is my
mind and gross body with its outgoing senses.

I renounced this material world, knowing myself to be eternally subservient
to Him, to dedicate myself in His service. My all gross, subtle and casual
bodies are ever in relation with Sri Krishna so thus I will, in all times
and circumstances, attempt to engage in His service.

This has since been the nature of my devotions. The question arises, could
then I have not stayed in my normal household life and practiced there such
devotions? Of course I could. The main obstruction in living amidst the
ignorant fruitive workers, is one has to cater for their tastes and that is
not going to be pleasant for me. This human form of life is too short for
giving indulgence to frivolous pursuits and I am not going to waste it. I
assure you, I did my level best to engage my senses in establishing a loving
relationship with Sri Krishna, being fortunate to have the association of
the dear most servant of Sriman Mahaprabhu. He, with loving compassion,
overlooking my disqualification's, accepted me for what I was, solely to
enrich my devotional mood. On having received a touch of his mercy, I
enthusiastically resolved to engage my senses unalloyedly in the devotional
service of the Supreme Lord. Consequently I set out to follow all the
primary injunctions of the scriptures, regarding cultivation of knowledge of
the soul, ignoring that in regard to this temporary material body. The
public, admiring my indifference to material affairs and rigid cultivation
of spiritual practices, started honoring me and began to address me as
'sadhu.' (saint). Thus I lived amidst such adoration and fame. Originally,
my purpose had been to cultivate my devotion rigidly with submitting myself
to rectification in the garb of a disciple. Unfortunately, overcome by the
force of my previous bad habits, I once again desired to savor the luxuries
of the body and amass prestige.

For the whole day I was in the Math. After 'Sandhya Aarti', Guru Maharaj
did 'Hari Katha'. Guru Maharaj Ji emphasized on the importance of 'Hari
Vasar Tithi'. Guru Maharaj Ji said if you don't come to Math daily,
because you are staying at far away places or engaged in your daily
activities, and you come to Math (Guru Graha) on Ekadashi, you can recover
all the losses. Guru Maharaj Ji said it is - "less time, less energy,
more profit". The benefit of doing Harinaam on Ekadashi tithi is million
times more than other days. So everyone must visit Guru Graha on the holy
Hari Vasar Tithi and do more Harinaam. Also Guru Maharaj Ji said we
should not do Ekadashi Vrat for worldly desires. It should be only for

Tuesday.

  Rest is fine.

Amar Bhajan (My Devotional Practice) - 2

I had always very much revered and loved my spiritual
master. Now, by the burning urge to satisfy my senses,
many a time, I think him a stumbling block to my
devious ends, for my mind has taken a different turn.
I could not confidentially relate to him anymore, even
though some reverence to him was still there. I could
not perceive him as my well wisher and savior anymore.
Further more, if I did attempt to follow his
instructions then that would warrant having to give up
my whimsical nature. Thus, originally though having
resolved to practice devotion to Lord Krishna, I have
slowly come to forget this aspiration. My spiritual
practices existed now only outwardly in name. Besides
the satisfaction of my perverted desires, nothing else
could bring any substantial delight to my heart.
Previously, in gaining any opportunity for service to
the Supreme Lord, I would consider myself fortunate
but now I see it as a troublesome task! Service
executed for the spiritual master seemed as an
opportunity for achieving perfection but now the very
same seems burdensome. Enthusiastically, I had been
serving all the devotees and saintly people, but the
very suggestions of such service would not make me
annoyed. My mind now would feel disconsolate in not
being indulged in nice, lofty seats and cushions,
lengthy praises of adoration, not leaving out
sumptuous dainty dishes. I, now, have some
reservations to speak to people frankly and openly,
being very much afraid of public opinion and loss of
prestige. This was not at all my previous disposition
and often I would wonder how long could I continue in
this hypocritical dress of a devotee.

In the place of true devotions to Lord Krishna,
presently only a jumble of self-concocted practices
exist. My priority is now to serve my senses and after
or during the course of my selfish pursuits, if some
little service can be done for the sake of devotion or
the devotees then I am not grudging.

I, as a daily function, had always glorified the
Supreme Lord spiritual master and the devotees. Only
by their mercy did I begin my devotions. Stealthily,
asserting myself as non-different from them, now I
have stopped to desire to make the Supreme Lord, the
devotees and spiritual master and the world in general
as my servitors. My object of worship is not lord
Krishna anymore. I now maintain only some whimsical
rules and regulations for my self indulgence.

In public gatherings, believe me, I had openly
declared myself as the servant of the servant of the
Supreme Lord, devotees and spiritual master. The truth
of the matter is deep inside, I do not consider myself
any lesser by any cost. The little respect I had
feigned outwardly was only a device to get recognition
as a saintly man and for earning prestige.

Amar Bhajan (My Devotional Practice) - 3
--- His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj

It is not that, time and again, I have not reflected how I had sunk in this
sorry plight. I used to ponder that it must be that knowingly or unknowingly
I had committed some offences to the devotees. Offences to devotees usually
leads to waning of devotion and slowly such offenders will end up victims of
sensual urges and be blinded by self-deception. The fact is I was able to
detect my faults time and again but was not ready to confess them on account
of my fear of public opinion and loss of my false pride. I always have been
reluctant to twin the good grace of the devotees by humbly asking their
pardon. Instead was more involved with worldly minded people, to win their
false adoration's, neglecting the pleasure of the Supreme Lord, spiritual
master and the devotees.
Pretentiously, for impressing the ignorant and eager for their adoration's,
I took to the practice of solitary devotions of the mendicant also engaging
in begging for my subsistence. My restless mind, in nor finding enough
solace in these attempts, did not hesitate to find other substitutes without
any restriction. In that course, the whole process of my devotions had now
degraded to the different attempts for securing wealth, to liase with women,
in order to name them do my bidding or to try to secure fame.

Noting my wretched condition, my true well wishers and friends on the
spiritual path, counseled me to refrain from these irresponsible activities
and take again to the protective guidance of the spiritual master and the
scriptures. At one time, it was in taking similar beneficial advice and
bading farewell to material life that I had begun spiritual practices.
It is my extreme misfortune that now in the guise of a saint I am directly
or indirectly endeavoring in the pursuit of wealth, women and prestige. This
usual sort of good counsel no more appealed to me as superior. There are two
ways mentioned in scripture: the superior spiritual path (sreya) and the way
of natural tendencies (preya) I had left he latter to pursue the former but
now suprisingly I am back to my former old ways.
I no more exhibit eagerness to hear the holy recitations of Srimad
Bhagavatam from the realized souls. Let us face it, how many times will I
have to hear the same old stories? In making an effort to hear such
transcendental topics, sleep (drowsiness) usually gets the better of me. On
the other hand, in relishing common, vulgar gossip, sleep does not prove to
be an obstacle. I could, with heavy gusto, keep way awake the entire night
in pursuance of such gossip. The words of the Bhagavatam do not strike me.
srnutah sradhaya nityam grnatas ca sva-cestitam
             natidirgher kalena bhavan visate hrdi
The message of Lord Krishna regarding constant practice has slipped from my
memory. In having heard some scriptual verses at random, I impulsively have
begun to profess well-versed knowledge on devotion. I am convinced that I am
able to judge the nature of devotees with my outgoing restless senses and
have assured myself only the truth of the Supreme Lord remains to be
revealed to me. The transcendental aspect of devotion and the devotees and
that they cannot be perceived or understood with these material senses have
deluded me. The glories of surrender to the Supreme Lord and spiritual
master, I have similarly forgotten.

         tsyaisa atma virnute tanum svam
In hearing the words of the srutis repeatedly, I cannot appreciate their
meanings. I have forgotten that the association of the devotees and the
spiritual master is never obtained by the ascending process. Sometimes, I
contemplate in the direction of performing austerities or other times, doing
pious activities, having forgotten that these processes cannot bring one to
the proximity of the self-realized souls.

         niskincananam na vrnita yavat
                         (Bhag. 7.5.32)
I have forgotten the earlier vows which I had taken in pursuit of devotion,
in the presence of my spiritual master, that is to be the servant of the
servant of the Lord (Sri Krishna) and not to have any other selfish
ambition. I, Having had the highest objectives within the realm of this
material universe, have rejected all this to take to the temporary pursuit
of trivial sense-enjoyments, which are generally, misery bound. In trying to
analyze the cause for this action in a sober frame of mind, I am unable to
find an answer. At one time I used to think that to maintain my life within
the proper standard, there was a dire need for ample wealth and for the
satisfaction of my senses women were necessary to cater to my whims, not
forgetting enough prestige to be ensured, to keep one's place amidst
society. I had formerly known all this to be impediments to devotion, still
even after hearing verses like (Bhag. 11.20.27,28)
                 jata-sraddho mat-kathasu nirvinnah sarva-katmasu
veda duhkhatmakan kamam parityage 'py anisvarah
tato bhajeta mam pritah sraddhalur drdha-niscayah
jusamanas ca tan kamam duhkhodarkams ca garghayan
In the deception of actual renunciation, I have become complacent and
reflect that after all, in my tender immature stage of devotion, bad habits
are bound to exist. Thus giving indulgence to my passions in an unrestricted
manner, blaming it on the fault of vipralipsa. I carry on heedlessly. In
actual fact, the scriptures recommend control of the senses and works with
detachment in the performance of devotion (unmotivated). There is no
scriptural backing for the indulgence of the senses unrestrictedly and this
too I have forgotten. Ideally, until the time I become absorbed in pure
devotional service of the Lord, till that time, the scriptures recommend
that without forgoing devotional practices, side by side to enjoy the
necessary material enjoyments, seeing the futility of such. On the contrary,
in seeing this sense gratification as impediment to devotional practice,
there is no way of ridding this from our heart. I have forgotten all of
these statements. Factually, meditating on the glories of lust, enjoyment,
association of women, earning sufficient wealth and material fame, will
surely lead one to be attached to these eventually. I had come to perform
serious devotions but, being allured by the glories of association with
women, have rejected celibacy to yearn for marriage, forgetting the
transient nature of marriage. I was definitely renounced once but in the
contemplation of the momentary pleasures afforded by wealth and forgetting
the grief that accrue in such ventures, I have become enrapt in trying for
profit. In the eagerness to win the fickle adorations of the worldly and
blind to their faults as such, I have disregarded the satisfaction of the
spiritual master and the devotees, even to the point of offending them in
this mad pursuit for distinction and prestige. It is not that my dismal
state of affairs has not disturbed me. Many a time, I have analyzed that in
leading such a depraved life, I have spoiled my chance to attain the lotus
feet of Sri Krishna against my ultimate welfare. In trying to rectify myself
however, I have been buffeted repeatedly back in the vortex of
unrighteousness. In this state, was there any hope for my ultimate welfare,
I ask? I definitely would think so. Irregardless whether I have failed the
test in some situations I will, without loss of courage, stay entrenched in
the practice of devotion. My eternal, most compassionate, most worshipable
master will definitely shower his blessings on me.
krsna krpa kariben drda kari mani durbar yadi na va dubce dube va
This saying is to my heart. I will not become bereft of hope at any time.
Nothing other than the bliss of the all compassion Lord will remain in my
heart. He will check all such diverse natures and other than that which
produces bliss, none others can hope to remain. I am His dear servant
therefore He will surely protect and maintain me, of this there is no doubt.
                 bhumau skhalita padanam bhumirehavalamvanam
tvayi jata-aparadhanam tvam eva saranam prabho!
[A prayer for forgiveness of offenses addressed to the Lord.]
Remembering these prayers again and again, in the appeal of relinquishing
all my offenses and in order to serve the Lord and His dear servants with
determination, I firstly have to pray for service to the devotees and the
spiritual master. It is only by his service and by their merciful blessings
that I can overcome all spiritual impediments and become absorbed in bliss
of devotion. The service of the devotees (Vaisnavas), the spiritual master
and the Supreme Lord is my devotional practice.

Govardhana's Appearance

From Sri Vraja Mandala Parikrama, l984 by

His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaja

Re typed from Rays of the Harmonist Vol. II No II Kartika l998

The narration of Govardhana's avirbhava, or appearance, in this world and
the receiving of the name of "Giriraja" is described in the second chapter
of the Vrndavana-khanda of the Garga-Samhita, by Sri Gargacaraya. In a
counsel of wise and elderly gopas of Vraja that included Nanda Maharaja and
his brother Sananda amongst the discussion, the previously mentioned topics
were debated upon. Pandu and Bhisma raised the questions for discussion, and
the narration was then told by Sananda to Nanda Maharaja.

As Sri Krishna's desire to appear with Sri Radha in this world correlated
with the desire to descend with the desire to descend to relieve the burden
of the world, She said, "Where there is no Vrndavana, Yamuna,
Giri-Govardhana, there Radharani refuses to appear," Then Sri Krishna
Himself sent His own dhama of eighty-four krosa, one hundred and sixty-eight
miles, of divine land, Govardhana, and Yamuna River to the Earth. [The Lord'
s transcendental Sri Vraja-mandala-dhama is not some portion or
transformation of this Earth. The Lord's dhama has been sent to this world.]

On the western side of India is Salmaladvipa, where the son of Drona Hill,
Govardhana, descended. Govardhana's appearance made the demigods happily
rain flowers down. Other regal mountains headed by Himalaya, Sumeru, and so
on, became happy at heart and worshiped Govardhana. They sang the glories of
Govardhana, saying, "Govardhana is the perfectly complete svayam bhagavan
Sri Krishna's sporting place from Goloka; Govardhana is the king of all
mountains, the mukuta or crown of Goloka, purna-brahma Krishna's umbrella,
with Vrndavana resting in its lap. From now on, Govardhana's name will be
renowned as 'Giriraja',"

Once Pulastya, one of the seven munis, as he was touring all the holy
places, became stunned upon seeing the beautiful trees, wonderful flowers,
fruits, and gardens that the exquisitely beautiful son of Dronacala,
Giriraja Govardhana, possessed. Pulastya Muni went before Dronacala and,
showing him great worship and honor, said to him, in this way, that he was a
Kasi-vasi muni, Kasi has the Ganga, Visvesvara Mahadeva, and sinful persons
there receive sadhya-mukti, liberation as their final goal, but they want to
perform tapasya there by establishing Govardhana at Kasi. Pulastya Muni
prayed to Dronacala like this to give his son, Govardhana, to him. Dronacala
was very affectionate to his son, but fearing the curse of the muni, "How
will you be able to take Govardhana? Govardhana is eight yojanas (64 miles)
long, five yojanas (40 miles) broad, and two yojanas (16 miles) high." This
question was asked before Pulastya Muni who had replied that he could easily
take it on one hand! [The Garga-Samhita describes Giriraja Govardhana's
breadth as eight yojanas, namely sixty-four miles. But materialistic vision
sees it and hears it as only seven miles at present. The parikrama path is
fourteen miles.] Govardhana agreed to go along with the muni on one
condition, "Muni, wherever you place me down due to the heavy weight, there
I will remain." Pulastya Muni promised, "He would take Govardhana to Kasi,
not putting him down anywhere on the road." The powerful father of
Govardhana, Dronacala, offered pranams and then the muni lifted up
Govardhana in his right hand and slowly began to proceed forward. As he
proceeded the best of the munis came to Vraja-mandala.

Upon seeing Vraja-mandala's unparalleled beauty where Sri Krishna's
balya-lila, childhood pastimes, and kaisora-lila, adolescent pastimes, were
performed, and remembrance of the Yamuna, gopas and gopis, and Krishna's
pastimes with the youthful Sri Radhika and Her associates, Govardhana had no
desire to go to any other place, leaving Vraja. In this way Govardhana
became so heavy that the muni felt ill and forgot his own promising talk and
thus set Govardhana down upon the ground of Vraja. The best of munis, upon
completing his bodily purifications, again began to request Govardhana to
come and sit upon his hand as he had done previously. But Govardhana did not
accept his requests to get up.

The best of the munis then tries himself to lift but he was unable to do so.
Again by the condition of the prayer Govardhana did not want to go, so
Pulastya Muni became extremely angry and said, "Because you did not fulfil
my aspiration, every day you will decrease one sesame seed." From that time
on Govardhana Hill shrunk one sesame seed per day.

Srimad Bhagavatam: Canto 7- Chapter 8: Lord Nrsimhadeva Slays the King of
the Demons

As described in this chapter, Hiranyakasipu was ready to kill his own son
Prahlada Maharaja, but the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared in front
of the demon as Sri Nrkesari, half lion and half man, and killed him.
Following the instructions of Prahlada Maharaja, all the sons of the
demons became attached to Lord Visnu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
When this attachment became pronounced, their teachers, Sanda and Amarka,
were very much afraid that the boys would become more and more devoted to
the Lord. In a helpless condition, they approached Hiranyakasipu and
described in detail the effect of Prahlada's preaching. After hearing of
this, Hiranyakasipu decided to kill his son Prahlada. Hiranyakasipu was so
angry that Prahlada Maharaja fell down at his feet and said many things just
to pacify him, but he was unsuccessful in satisfying his demoniac father.
Hiranyakasipu, as a typical demon, began to advertise himself as being
greater than the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but Prahlada Maharaja
challenged him, saying that Hiranyakasipu was not God, and began to glorify
the Supreme personality of Godhead, declaring that the Lord is
all-pervading, that everything is under Him, and that no one is equal to or
greater than Him. Thus he requested his father to be submissive to the
omnipotent Supreme Lord.
The more Prahlada Maharaja glorified the Supreme personality of Godhead,
the more angry and agitated the demon became. Hiranyakasipu asked his
Vaisnava son whether his God existed within the columns of the palace, and
Prahlada Maharaja immediately accepted that since the Lord is present
everywhere, He was also present within the columns. When Hiranyakasipu heard
this philosophy from his young son, he derided the boy's statement as just
the talk of a child and forcefully struck the pillar with his fist.
As soon as Hiranyakasipu struck the column, there issued forth a
tumultuous sound. At first Hiranyakasipu, the King of the demons, could not
see anything but the pillar, but to substantiate Prahlada's statements, the
Lord came out of the pillar in His wonderful incarnation as Narasimha, half
lion and half man. Hiranyakasipu could immediately understand that the
extraordinarily wonderful form of the Lord was surely meant for his death,
and thus he prepared to fight with the form of half lion and half man. The
Lord performed His pastimes by fighting with the demon for some time, and in
the evening, on the border between day and night, the Lord captured the
demon, threw him on His lap, and killed him by piercing his abdomen with His
nails. The Lord not only killed Hiranyakasipu, the King of the demons, but
also killed many of his followers. When there was no one else to fight, the
Lord, roaring with anger, sat down on Hiranyakasipu's throne.
The entire universe was thus relieved of the rule of Hiranyakasipu, and
everyone was jubilant in transcendental bliss. Then all the demigods, headed
by Lord Brahma, approached the Lord. These included the great saintly
persons, the Pitas, the Siddhas, the Vidyadharas, the Nagas, the Manus, the
prajapatis, the Gandharvas, the Caranas, the Yaksas, the Kimpurusas, the
Vaitalikas, the Kinnaras and also many other varieties of beings in human
form. All of them stood not far from the Supreme Personality of Godhead and
began offering their prayers unto the Lord, whose spiritual effulgence was
brilliant as He sat on the throne.

All Glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!!

Srila Rupa Gosvami has written this song:

bandhu sange jadi taba ranga pariahs thake abhilas
tabe mor katha rakha jeyo naka jeyo naka
vrndavane kesitirtha ghater sakas
nayane bankina-drsti mukhe manda-has

"If you still desire to amuse yourself with your friends, you should not go to Vrndavana. And if you go to Vrndavana, you should especially not go to Kesi Ghat. There is a danger lurking there. What is that danger? It is Sri Hari, Krishna Himself, who has taken the form of Govinda, Govinda vigraha dhari. The danger is that if you go there and see Him, if you have a vision of Govinda, you will not be able to return to the customary amusements of your ordinary household life.

The look of His eyes, His crooked glance, is very dangerous-- nayane bankima-drsti mukhe manda-has. He is not standing straight, but tri-bhanga, with three curves. If this Krishna enters you, He will not come out. If Narayana enters, He may come out. Narayana is straight. But Krishna is curved like a hook and that is dangerous.

His color is like the color of a rain cloud-- varna samujjvala syama. You will find that in the springtime the leaves of the trees are so fresh. Similarly, Krishna is not old, but rather, a young adolescent. The lips of His mouth are very dangerous and if you see the peacock feather on His head, you will not be able to come back to your household life. So, if you want to have fun with your friends, you should not go to Vrndavana, and should not see Krishna.

Unfortunately, we go to Vrndavana and still come back. We do not have such devotion. If anybody truly had the greed for Govinda, he could not return to his mundane life. His worldly relations would be destroyed. Greed for devotion is developed by associating with the pure devotees of the Lord. By their grace it becomes possible for us to attain Krishna prema, divine love for God, the ultimate goal of life.

All Gories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!!

More remembrance of Guru-Vaishnav-Bhagawan will remove all obstacles of bhajan and can bestow desired devotional objective. But problem is this – a conditioned soul cannot remember Them with material mind and They are beyond the comprehension of material mind and intellect. harih nirguna sakshat prakrirteh parah.

Sri Hari – Supreme Lord is transcendental and as such, beyond material comprehension. We cannot remember Guru-Vaishnav-Bhagawan, cannot sing Their transcendental infinite glories, even cannot pray for Their grace without their causless mercy.

pranatabhigamyam murhairavedyam – They are accessible to completely surrendered soul, not accessible to the ignorant, unsurrendered soul. Nobody can comprehend Their transcendental qualities with challenging mood. Surrendered soul can have realization of Their transcendental qualities as per the degree of their submission. No wise person, who has got a glimpse of the concept of Ultimate Reality can say that his realization is perfect and complete.

jananta eva janantu  kim vahooktya na may prabhoh

manasho vapusho vacho vaibham tava gocharah

Lord Brahma’s pronouncement: “I do not want to make a pompous display of words. The wiseacre may pretend to think that they know Your glories and glories of Your entourage, but I with assertion say that they are not accessible to Me.”

It is not possible for me, a conditioned soul, to narrate the infinite transcendental attributes of His Divine Grace, Most Revered Param-Guru-Padpadma 108 Sri Srimat Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur and his personal associates. Whatever we, the enslaved jivas, say by our limited knowledge and imperfect submission ….instead of glorifying, we may mar the dignity of their transcendental attributes. Yet, inspite of our deficiency, if we have got humbleness, Guru-Vaishnav-Bhagawan will forgive our offences and out of causeless mercy, will accept us as their servitors. The moment we become proud and arrogant, we shall fall from devotional life and all our efforts will be futile, as those efforts have got no connection with the Supreme Lord and His devotees.

It is the order of my most revered divine Master, Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimat Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj to recite what I have heard so far from the lips of Guru and Vaishnavas to purify my mind and to get devotion to Sri Krishna. So, wharever I go, I try to obey the direction of my divine master to recite the sayings of Guru, Vaishnava and authentic scriptures, although I have got my own drawbacks.

All Glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga!!

Everything depends upon the will of the Supreme Lord. We cannot do anything against His will – man proposes, God disposes. All depends upon His will. We have to submit to His will. By submitting to His will, we can be happy.

We have to remain in the vicinity of Krishna and His devotees and not in the vicinity of the world. How to live near Krishna and His devotees? Krishna is beyond the reach of our mundane senses. He is nirguna – Transcendental Reality. His association is also transcendental. How can we live near Him with this material body and how can we perform Ekadasi? God is in the transcendental realm and the worship of God is also transcendental. They are not mundane. With this material body, we have got the qualities of the external potency. With this material body, how can we remain in the vicinity of Krishna and how should we perform service? In the Chaitanya Charitamrita, it is said, “At the time of taking initiation, mantra, diksa – the bhakta, disciple takes absolute shelter at the lotus feet of gurusad guru. Shiva, Brahma – Nishta Guru – who has got the knowledge to precept and who has practical knowledge of the ultimate. You have to go to such a guru and take absolute shelter.

Guru is one with Krishna. In the form of a true guru, Krishna manifests. When you take shelter at his lotus feet, Krishna will embrace and make you sat-cid-ananda, transcendental and with form, you can serve Krishna anywhere in the vicinity. Then Krishna makes you like Him. The body becomes sat-cid-ananda. It does not remain as matter. Matter does not go to Him. If the object of service and worship remains on the 30th storey and the servitor is on the ground floor, how can he serve him? In order to serve the master he has to go there by lift and sit by the bedstead. Then he cans erve his master, massage etc. By staying in ground floor, he cannot do that. God is in the transcendental realm. I shall remain here in the material realm. How can I serve Him?

krte yad dhyayato visnum
tretayam yajato makhaih
dvapara paricaryayam
kalau tad dhari-kirtanat
(Srimad Bhagavatam, 12.3.52)

"Whatever benefit human beings received in Satya-yuga by meditation, in Treta-yuga by sacrifice and in Dvapara-yuga by Deity worship, they can receive in Kali-yuga by the chanting of the Holy Name."

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared to teach us:

harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha
(Brhan-naradiya Purana, 38.97)

"Harer nama harer nama harer nama." Thrice it is said to give emphasis. This means, "Yes! You should do it! You should do it! You should do it!" Harinama! If anybody says you should perform meditation, the reply is, "No! Harinama!" By practicing pranayama, etc., "No! Harinama!" By oblations, "No! Harinama!" This verse says "No! Harinama!" thrice and "only Harinama, nothing else." "Kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva." There is no other way, no other way, no other way-thrice-in this Kali-yuga.

God has appeared as His Name. All strength has been given to His Name to rescue the fallen souls of this Kali-yuga. You have to accept the instructions of the Supreme Lord. Sri Krsna, in the mood Srimati Radharani, appeared as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and preached that by means of Sri Nama Saìkirtana, we can obtain Krsna-prema. We have been born into this Kali-yuga. Unlike the other prior yugas, Satya, Treta and Dvapara, there are three kinds of adharmas (a lack of tapah, saucam and daya) in this era. Only one dharma remains: satyam. Satya is the Holy Name. Yet, we can easily get Krsna in this Kali-yuga because the Lord has graced the fallen souls of this era and given them the easiest way.

                        Sri Sri Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

Association with this body and the relationship of wife, children etc, are connected to the body. What is the root cause of attachment in this world? Living beings are created by rajo-guna, sustained by sattva-guna and destroyed by tama-guna. By rajo-guna, we have got this body. It will remain for sometime and vanish. This body is incomplete form. Your body – it is born, it will remain for sometime and it will die. All the other relations you see in this world are external. The real self, you have not seen. You are not seeing the real self. So attachment to the external….always thinking about the body and how to beautify the body. That’s the cause of bondage. We try to beautify this body. Inside the body you have stools. So as long as we have that ego, false ego – ‘I am this body, I want to get all kinds of enjoyment for this body, to try to be happy’ – he is in bondage.

In other relations, we are seeing the physical body which is the cause of firm attachment. We are seeing in this world, they are always running for the physical body. This is called firm attachment – prasanga ajaram pasam. We are not seeing the Deity. Deity is not speaking to us. There are rare cases but generally Deities are not speaking to us. How can we have attachment to Them? We know all the relations of this world are temperory, transient in character. They have got exchange of thoughts in them, so we get attachment. Bhagawan is transcendental and the Deities are not speaking to us. How can we get love and attachment to Bhagawan? You are not seeing the Deity.

They are eternal spiritual forms. But you are seeing Him - His associates and His entourage are always there. You are seeing the sadhu. Sadhu is like you. You can talk to him. You can associate with a sadhu. You can exchange thoughts with a sadhu. He is like you. You may not see Bhagawan but you seeing a sadhu.
