Well howdy,<br><br>Starman IS the best comic in
the DCU. Too bad it is ending next year.<br><br>I
think that James Robinson is great but I haven't picked
up much of his work not related to Starman or the
JSA.<br><br>Annotations would be cool, but over 80 issues? That would be
hard to do indeed.<br><br>Glad to have you
here.<br><br>~Brian
It's not an easy task, that's for sure. I sat
down this weekend and did issue 0... took me a while.
I tried to find out what everything Robinson
referenced was... Bakelite, Sax Rohmer, Captain Action, the
whole bit. <br><br>It's going to be a long process as I
pore over the series and reference back from one book
to another. But it was a real kick doing it. I
learned a lot, and you realize just how much Robinson has
planned this series, how much DC history goes into the
series. <br><br>Jamie
I only have a few things to say...<br><br>1.) It gives me a new appreciation for
Tony Harris. I never understood the big deal before.<br><br>and<br><br>2.)
WOW!!!! WHAT AN AWESOME BOOK
I'm sure you've done it elsewhere, but let's CAST
THE STARMAN MOVIE<br><br>To be totally honest, I've
only got one GOOD idea.<br><br>TED KNIGHT: Michael
Cain<br><br>Someone else want to pick this topic up and run with it?
I'm sure you've all got Starman movie fantasties!
Oh yeah, my favorite sport! <br><br>Jack Knight: Stephen Dorff<br>Ted Knight:
Paul Newman<br>Mikaal Tomas: David Bowie<br>Nash: Winona Ryder<br><br>Anyone
else?
I would like to say howdy to all members of the
Starman club!I've been reading Starman for about year
starting with 48 but I was able to go back and read all of
the previous 47 in no time including all 4 trade
paperbacks.Long live Starman!<br>tigerterra(Sammie
Bullock,Tarboro,NC)
I like it, Tigerterra! Catherine Zeta-Jones is
attractive and could pull off the debutante Sandra Knight
and the gallant Phantom Lady well! <br><br>So let's
put our cast together more (including my additions):
<br><br>Jack Knight: John Cusack<br>Ted Knight: Paul
Newman<br>Sandra Knight/Phantom Lady: Catherine Zeta-Jones
Those picks are great so far... keep 'em
coming...<br><br>How about that girl from "Dirty Dancing" as Sadie?
Since her nosejob, she looks like a totally different
person, but more importantly she looks EXACTLY like Sadie
is portrayed in the comics... and she's still young
enough to play the character...
Ah.... you mean Jennifer Grey! Yeah, she'd be
good. I can see her doing the uncomfortable revelation
from the Pulp Heroes Annual really well... stumbling
over her words and not wanting to hurt Jack.
<br><br>Oh, and what about David Bowie as Mikaal Tomas?
Chances are he wouldn't mind being blue, and he'sp pretty
far out. Plus, he wrote the song
"Starman!"<br>So...<br><br>Jack Knight: John Cusack<br>Ted Knight: Paul
Newman<br>Mikaal Tomas: David Bowie<br>Sadie Falk/Jayne Payton:
Jennifer Grey<br>Phantom Lady: Catherine Zeta-Jones
Her name's Jennifer Grey, and she was also in
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"... she may be a good choice
for Sadie, although she's much older than I thought
she was: The Internet Movie Database says she was
born in 1960, making her 40 years old!!! Maybe a
younger actress should be chosen, unless she can pull off
playing a character about 12 to 15 years younger than
herself...
A Hearty Hello to all.. Just wanted to pop my
head in and greet everyone. I've been a fan of the
series for a long time, coming in around the middle of
"Sand & Stars" (but, thanks to the wonder of tpb's, I
was able to catch up). Yeah, I am a late bloomer, but
it was worth it all the same.. Robinson has weaved a
fantastic Tapestry, one which shall be forever cast upon
our Collective Consciousness..!<br> Well, I can't
stay long (errands to run and such), but I will be
more than willing to talk with anyone (providing I am
not eating @ the time.. *HEH*) about the series. Hope
to talk with many of you soon.. Cheers..!<br><br>--

Welcome to the group, New Guy. I wish we could offer you a little more to do,
but the majority of the membership here mustn't even realize they belong to this
group.
I agree with jsalantern that I think people they
are part of this club. There have only 2 new posts
since I put up one about the casting for the Starman
movie.Come on people let's not abandon jack when he needs us
the most.<br>Sammie
I'm sorry I haven't been here much. I'm running
more than half a dozen clubs, some of which really
need a lot of work, and as such I haven't been to my
other clubs much.<br><br>Re: the Starman movie. Who
would play Black Condor, Phantom Lady, and Ralph & Sue
Dibny?
I had the oppurtunity to buy this about two weeks
ago but I passed it up wondering why all four issues
were being sold in a package at a ridiculously low
price. I figured it had to suck.<br><br>Now I've been
hearing great things about it, and when I went back to
get it, it was gone. And you know something? After
reading TIMES PAST for the first time today, whether or
not the miniseries sucks, I have to see more of
Shade! He's the coolest!
JSALantern left earlier today and instated me as
the new founder of Starman. I hope to see more
participation and activity around here, and hope to get the
oppurtunity to meet you all. I might be on Yahoo messenger
later. Just send a note to Kal_L2 anytime you feel like
talking.
I bought the new Dr. Fate figure today since I'm
a huge fan of all things Golden Age and especially
Dr. Fate.<br><br>But his knees don't bend, and his
pose is terrible. The only way he stands up is by
leaning him against the wall or something. Otherwise,
it's impossible. There definitely aren't enough joints
in this figure.<br><br>I thought DC Direct would do
a much better job with him than this. And don't get
me started on the repulsive green tone that the
Spectre has to him.
JSAlantern,I thumk that you will like the Shade
mini series. At one time the Shade was a two bit
criminal before James Robinson got a hold of him.The Shade
was apart of Injustice Unlimited(an update of
Injustice society during the 80's) asnd it would be
intersting to see if he goes that route once
again.<br>Sammie
Okay, I admit it, my Reply is later than everyone
else's. BUT, work has been keeping me occupied, as has my
work on my own comic series.. However, here are my
Picks..<br><br>The Mist (Nash): Angelina Jolie <br><br> *** She
could pull it off. And, to see her<br> with short hair,
check out ^Hackers^. Just<br> a thought, gang..
:)<br><br>"Bobo" Bennetti: Tim Thompson [sp.]<br><br> *** He's a
good character actor. Best known for<br> his stand-up
routine, in which he re-enacts<br> this scene from the old
Western,<br> ^Stagecoach^, and he plays ALL the <br>
characters. Plus he played in the Full<br> Moon Pictures
made-for-video series,<br> ^Dollman^, and the movie,
^Trancers^.<br><br>The Shade: Gary Oldman!!!<br><br> *** No Question,
there..<br><br>Sadie: Jenna Elfman<br><br> ** Not sure about this, but
I think she could<br> pull it off. Jenna is pretty
expressive,<br> and she has the potential to be a strong<br>
character. Or, if not her then..<br><br>Sadie (alt. choice):
Charlize Theron<br><br>... I have more, lingering at the
edges of my frayed Consciousness, but I am suffering
with allergies. As more come to me, I promise to share
'em. Let me know what you think of these thus far..
Cheers..<br><br>-- D!
Oh, I dunno.. They're not so bad.. My only real
complaints (or perhaps nitpicks is more like it) are 1) The
John Constantine figure is disappointing. The face is
all wrong. He looks like he's bound-up or somethin'
(change name to John Constipated).. and 2) Zatanna (whom
I bought -- I am a big Z nut) is very sharp, based
on the Murphy Anderson interpretation of her.
However, I would have gone with a younger, more modern
approach (like we saw under the artistic guidance of Ethan
VanScyver in ^Impulse^ #54 or Huberto Ramos in ^Impulse^
#17, or better yet the way Cary Nord did her in
^Batboy & Robin^!). But, it is still worth having. My
only real complaint is the base is light, and you have
to be careful, else she tips over. Otherwise, I am
happy with her.. :)<br><br>-- D!
