Silicon Valley Women's book club 24th meeting is going
to be held on May 21st, Saturday. We are going to have
a special program this time. Maggie Li, the author of
"拓荒─十二位頂尖創業家的成功傳奇", is going to join
us. She will give us a gripping account about her
writing process, introduce her new projects to us, and
exchange opinions with us on any subjects in
literature.

5月13日，“硅谷女性”假南湾Milpitas市的巴山蜀水餐馆为6月5日举办的资助中国贫困地区失学儿童慈善义演举行新闻发布会。旧金山湾区各大媒体及中文电台均派员采访。出席新闻发布会的有活动总策划，硅谷女性理事会主席余雪，此次义演的艺术总监于静­，执行制作左谷兰，节目主持人张磊，丁维平以及主要演员周虹，吴沁等。此次新闻发布会由巴山蜀水餐馆赞助。以下是新闻稿：

“硅谷女性”资助中国贫困地区失学儿童筹款义演

活跃于旧金山湾区的职业女性组织“硅谷女性”­会将于6月5日下午2：30假MILPITAS的CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL举办首届“资助中国贫困地区失学儿童慈善义演”。

此次义演邀集了旧金山湾区著名的话剧、时装、歌唱、舞蹈、器乐演奏等方面的专业艺术家共襄盛举。所有艺术家及工作人员们均为爱心奉献，不收取任何报酬。该台演出由主办大型演唱会《同一首歌 -走进美国》的星桥艺术中心总裁于静­女士担任艺术总监；留学英国的资深文化工作者左谷兰女士担任执行制作；星岛中文电台主持人丁维平和华艺剧社导演张磊将共同主持此场盛会。“华艺剧社”卢小燕、张磊将表演他们创作的小品《美国孩子中国娘》；“硅谷女性”亲善大使戚洁将率领“硅谷女性”时装表演队，给观众做精彩的时装表演。而在《同一首歌 - 走进美国》演唱会中，因演唱中国民歌大受欢­的九岁黑人小朋友TYLER THOMSON，将为大家演唱一首《小放牛》。同时，著名朗诵表演艺术家周虹，小提琴演奏家陈晓荔，著名歌手吴沁、黄阿咏、成德林, 还有南湾中华国乐团，蓓蓝舞蹈团以及丽莎舞蹈学院的小朋友们，都将在演出中以他们精湛的音乐、歌唱、朗诵，舞蹈表演，向中国贫困地区失学儿童献上爱心。

在6月5日举办的这场慈善义演活动中，主办单位还将公布也是由“硅谷女性”举办的“第三届母亲节征文大赛”获奖名单。本次征文大赛以“女人心”为主题，共收到来自海内、外的337篇参赛征文。由旅美著名华文作家担任评审，共评选出获奖作品三篇、优秀作品两篇，真正是百里挑一。获奖名单将由中国著名“伤痕文学”作家、本届征文大赛的终评评委卢新华先生公。

活动当天还将举办义卖，募集向中国贫困地区失学儿童捐赠的善款。义卖品包括刚刚出版的《同一首歌 - 走进美国》整套VCD光碟、善心人士提供的艺术品、­作等。主办单位还延请了多位华裔著名作家，进行现场签名售书。

此次义演总策划、”硅谷女性”­会的创办人之一、现任理事会主席余雪表示，这次义演的所有收入及募集的款项都将捐给“美国欣欣教育基金会”，用于资助中国贫困地区的失学儿童；当募集款项达到两万美金的时候，在中国最贫困地区建立一所“硅谷女性”小学。余雪指出，此次活动得到湾区各界人士的大力支持，让她十分感动。她希望“硅谷女性”每年都能举办一次这样有意义的慈善活动，让国内更多生活在贫困地区的失学儿童都能有机会接受教育。

主办单位呼吁居住在湾区的朋友都能来参加这次有意义的活动，并欢­个人及企业乐捐。本次义演票价为预售10美元，现场15美元。捐款，票价都可抵税 (Tax exemption

硅谷女性?shy;会(http://www.svwomen.org)成立于2001年2月，是一个?shy;加州州政府注册，立足美国硅谷，面向广大职业女性的非牟利机构。?shy;会成立的宗旨是为硅谷，乃至世界各地的华人职业女性提供一个互相交流，彼此扶持的平台。硅谷女性每月定期举办各种形式的活动，让女性朋友们在职场生涯之余有一个属于! 258;己的交流空间。提高生活品质，丰富生活内容，并在能力可及范围内回馈社会，创造价值。

硅谷女性2005年度领导班子决定，本年度除了继续过去一年很受欢?shy;的各类活动外，还将把工作重心扩展到慈善事业方面，定期举办慈善义演筹集捐款，资助中国贫困地区失学儿童。
 
硅谷女性?shy;会此次庆祝母亲节暨资助中国贫困地区失学儿童筹款义演活动将与美国欣欣教育基金会合作。欣欣教育基金会成立于1997年，目的是?shy;助中国边远或贫困地区助建小学。已故祖炳民教授为欣欣教育基金会前任理事长；臧大化先生为现任理事长；朱伟人先生为现任会长。
 
欣欣教育基金会(http://www.shinshinfoundation.org)长期接受捐款，提供资金，在中国偏远贫困，缺乏教育的地区兴建学校，从1998年到2004年，他们已捐建了169所小学，遍布全国各贫困地区。硅谷女性举办的此次慈善义演的所有收入，扣除活动支出，加上募集的各项捐款，将全数交由欣欣教育基金会为硅谷女性设置的专属 4080;户。硅谷女性将定期举办各类捐款活动，当募集款项达到一定数额的时候，将委托欣欣教育基?鸹嵊胫泄独У厍钡卣献鳎ⅰ肮韫扰浴毙⊙Ъ吧枇⒔毖Ы鹱??泄аФ?

We are very honored to have many important guests, including Mr. Sean Liou, as Representative of Governor Schwarzenegger; Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves, and Representatives of the Consulate General of People's republic of China in San Francisco, and the others.

【本報記者劉惠珍密爾必達報導】2001年成立的職業女性組織「硅谷女性」5日下午假密爾比達市皇冠飯店（Crown Plaza Hotel）舉辦首屆「資助中國貧困地區失學兒童籌款義演」。金山灣區許多話劇、時裝、歌唱、樂器演奏舞蹈、樂器演奏等方面的藝術家，奉獻愛心分文不取前來共襄盛舉。加州州長阿諾特派代表致詞與賀函，密爾比達市長艾和諧、中華人民共和國駐舊金山總領事館領劉津坤、亞洲周刊董 事長方李邦琴等親來與會。約三百人以上觀眾享受了一個節目內容豐富的下午，他們的購票收入將直接幫助中國貧困失學兒童。

「硅谷女性」的創辦人之一，同時也是現任理事會主席余雪表示這是第一次舉辦籌款活動，她說：「我們會持續不斷為中國貧困失學兒童的教育努力。」余雪的老家在福州，離開中國十幾年，2004 年有機會回中國工作一年。各地走走看看，發現貧困地區人民太窮，不重視教育，特別是女孩，根本沒有受教育機會，世世代代如此，永遠不能出頭。余雪深受震撼之下，發起幫貧困失學兒童，將「硅谷女性」從一般職業婦女社交性組織帶領到社區關懷慈善的另一個層次。

此次義演的所有收入都將轉交「美國欣欣教育基金會」，募集款項達到兩萬美金的時候，在中國最貧困地區建立一所「硅谷女性」小學。余雪說：「一般募款活動常有人擔心捐款不知去向，善心沒有到達真正需要的地方。」余雪曾在「美國欣欣教育基金會」當過四年義工，有第一手 0340;經驗，「知道他們是真正在做事，而且是真正在為『別人』做事。」

【明报记者颜畅报道】硅谷女性协会庆祝母亲节暨资助中国贫困地区失学儿童筹款义演昨日在苗必达市皇冠酒店举行。硅谷女性协会负责人余雪透露义演活动现场筹到近5000美元。

 

硅谷女性成立于2001年2月，通过每月定期活动，让职场妇女有机会彼此交流，提高生活品质，目前已有会员900人。

 

今年，硅谷女性协会决定与欣欣教育基金会合作，资助中国贫困地区失学儿童，以在中国贫困地区修建学校为己任的欣欣教育基金会将设立硅谷女性协会的专门帐户，接受民众捐款。

 

余雪表示向贫困地区学童捐款的活动，将成为硅谷女性的常规性活动内容。

 

由于欣欣教育基金会规定建立一所学校的启动基金是18000美元，余雪说捐款数目每到18000美元，他们就会立刻建立一所学校。

 

欣欣教育基金会从1997年成立以来，已经在中国边远贫困，缺乏教育地区捐建学校169所。欣欣教育基金会负责人李竞芬说，学校的硬件设施费用是10000美元，后续资金是8000美元，因此捐建一所学校的资金是18000美元。她更透露中国政府也会拿出另外的18000元参与建校。

 

昨日的义演活动中，湾区著名艺术表演人士，艺术学校代表献上精彩分呈的节目。中国大陆70年代著名伤痕文学的代表性人物，作家卢新华也现身现场为母亲节征文大赛获奖者颁奖。

 

余雪表示，硅谷女性协会从今年开始每年都会举办一次类似的义演活动。

 

现场捐款最多的包括欣欣教育基金会会长朱伟人捐款1000美元，李竞芬捐款500美元，和统会主席关永文捐款100元等。

    硅谷女性成立于2001年2月，是面向硅谷职业女性的非营利组织，2005年决定将工作重点扩展到慈善事业方面，资助贫困地区失学儿童。协会会长余雪介绍说：我们都是女性，将要或者正在扮演母亲的角色，为了使协会工作更有意义，造福更多的孩子，因此以后会将协会工作重心的一部份放 #22312;对失学儿童的帮助上。这次义演是协会的首次慈善募款活动，协会将定期举行各类捐款活动，所有收入都会和欣欣教育基金合作专用于希望小学的建设。

 

为了这次筹款，社会各界都积极相助，湾区部份作家捐出了自己的作品，一些人士捐赠玉石、绘画作品、音像制品等，义卖所得全部用于建小学。

 

与硅谷女性合作建设希望小学的欣欣教育基金迄今为止已经在大陆贫困地区建成169所小学，并有40余所在建。

硅谷女性母親節徵文揭曉

硅谷女性昨天舉行母親節慶祝會暨中國貧困地區失學兒童籌款義演，由星島中文電台主持人丁維平與華裔劇社張磊主持，出席的貴賓包括方李邦琴與苗必達市長艾和諧。

於二零零一年成立的硅谷女性協會至今已有九百名會員，往年舉辦的交流活動很 22810;，不過像昨天這樣的大型表演活動則是第一次。

硅谷女性母親節表演節目包括第一屆星島小姐戚潔指導的時裝表演，非裔小朋友Tyler Thompson演唱中國民歌《小放牛》，話劇小品《美國孩子中國娘》以及歌舞與樂團表演。

硅谷女性每年舉行的母親節徵文大賽也於昨天的母親節慶祝會上揭曉，今年共收到三百三十七篇徵文，選出二十篇入決賽，最後選出七篇優勝作品。

母親節徵文比賽得獎名單由作家盧新華發表。第Ç 68;名文章為《被風偷走的帽子》，但不幸失去作者訊息。此文章在雅虎的Bulk信箱中收到，在徵文收到之後一個月，雅虎Bulk信箱被自動刪除。盧新華表示，我們正在尋找此文章作者，希望作者盡快跟我們聯繫。

第二名作品為《我的母親》，作者筆名為枯荷雨聲，枯荷雨聲近兩年在網路與 0659;統媒體發表文章，喜好旅遊。第三名文章是《母親的意義》，作者為屈婷婷，現居住於四川樂山，雖非專業作家，但喜歡寫一些自己的心情，作品發表於榕樹下網站。

其他四名獲得為優勝獎，包括山東德州市燃氣公司職員趙雪燕寫的《如此女人》，湖南洞口縣著名作家葉耳的《母 #35242;與一個少年的七個細節》，吟寒的《看麥娘的春天》，小兒麻痺患者李淑萍的《寫給未出生的孩子的一封信》。

Welcome to the Travel Literature meeting organized by
Chinese Writers' Association in Northern California
and Silicon Valley Women Bookclub!

The theme of this meeting is travel. Two bay area
writers are going to share their travel journals with
us. Besides, they will presents their additional
harvest from travel in the form of music and
soliloquy. Also, there will be many souvenirs, such as
photos, to accompany their narratives. During the
meeting, you will be welcome to share the stories in
your travel.

Dear OCEF Donors:

 

            On behalf of Overseas China Education Foundation (OCEF), I am delighted to invite you and your friends to our Second Annual Bay Area Photo Exhibition at Milpitas Public Library on Saturday, June 25, 2005.  This Photo Exhibition is presented by Overseas China Education Foundation Northern California Chapter (OCEF-NCA) jointly with Chinese Californian Camera Club (CCC Club) and www.chinesephotographers.net(CPN).

 

              揟he Rough Road to School section of the Photo Exhibition showcases hundreds of never-shown-before pictures taken by OCEF volunteers on site-visits to the hinterland of China.  Would you like to see with your own eyes what life is like for the children that you and others are helping?  Would you like to see how your help is changing their lives?  Or, perhaps you would like to bring your own children for a lesson in happiness and love?  If so, please come to the Photo Exhibition.  

 

            In the second section of the Photo Exhibition, 揟o the End of the Earth, carefully selected artworks by CCC-Club members will take you on tours around the world.  Capturing spectacular scenery and rich cultures from all over the world, these photos are sure to give your eyes an unforgettable treat.

 

The Photo Exhibition is free to the public. 

 

Milpitas Public Library is located at 40 N. 诚挚感谢贵 SVWOMEN 对海外中国教育基金会（Overseas
China Education Foundation）助学工作的大力支持。

海外中国教育基金会北加州分会将于2005年6月25日在苗必达
市图书馆举办题为“坎坷求学路，千山万水情”的图片摄影
展。旨在呼吁湾区更多的侨胞和各界朋友继续关心并援助中国
偏远落后地区因贫困而失学的儿童，使他们获得基本教育的机
会。

展题： “坎坷求学路，千山万水情”

本次图片摄影展为海外中国教育基金会联合加州华人摄影?­会

会国内义工走访祖国贫困地区所获得的数百张最新一手图片资

勤的脚步遍及中国最边远的贫困角落，图片反映了贫困地区学
生的真实生活与求知欲望。图片摄影展的“走遍天涯”部分则
从摄影家的角度来展现世界各地自然风光及风土人情。许多作
品取材独特，制作精美，是加州华人摄影?­会会员数年来辛勤
劳动的结晶，亦具有很高的艺术欣赏价值。

If you like her unique images shown in the last year’s Photo San Francisco Art Exposition with three other Chinese artists, you may have a desire of listening to the author’s voice.

About Abby –

An immigrant from China since 1997, Abby stumbled into photography by acquiring her first camera. It was an opportunity that did not exist while growing up in the impoverished and male dominated areas of China. Her experience, although somewhat similar to her peer photographers, is disparate from most due to the significant barriers and boundaries she has faced as a Chinese, woman photographer.  In year 2002, Abby started as a curator by taking a more active role in mainstream activities, through curating quality exhibits and private showings, she intends to provide popular culture with greater visibility of emerging, Asian artists and their many difficulties of adjusting to a new land with new demands.

 

自述：没有爱上摄影之前，我时常觉得莫名的压抑和无聊，

是摄影让我听到自己内心深处飘荡了很久的回声，我从此

为我的情绪找到了一个宣泄的出口。摄影带给我莫大的

满足和无比的遗憾，它让我永远怀念我曾经拥有的，

又让我急切盼望着我将得到的。　
　　

作为影展的策展人和参展的女性摄影师，我深信女性对艺术

有一种特殊的敏感和细致，中华民族丰富的历史文化和当今

高速发展的物质文明给华人女性们提供着各种资源和机会。

Special Performance

The Calder Academy, as part of its 揈ast Meets West project, is pleased to present a special performance entitled 揅ultural Expressions of the East and West to be held on Sunday, July 31st, 2005 at 7pm at the Mayer Theater, Santa Clara University.

This performance will feature a spectrum of stylistically and culturally contrasting elements as expressed through dance, music and drama by Youth Delegates from China, and local youth and students of Calder Academy of Music and Studio 10 Dance. Highlights include Chinese dance, tap, hip-hop and jazz dance, piano duets and quartets, instrumental and vocal works, humorous skits and colorful costumes.

The Youth Delegates attending Calder Academy抯 揈ast Meets West 2005 Arts & Sciences Youth Delegation and are visiting us from Dong Fong Dong Lu School in Guangzhou, China. Last year this group had several successful performances in Europe.
