Dear Ang. W.
I have tatted for 20 years and teach needle tatting and shuttle
tatting, smocking, crochet, and knitting. I have made a video showing my
hands doing needle and shuttle tatting. I make little girl smocked dresses.
The video is $30.00 and the dresses are $30.00. If interested, let me know.

Dear All
Does anybody know of any UK stockists for Manuela thread and a double
bobbin shuttle - not the Silent Tatter or GR-8 shuttles, one more
like the Pelc (ie needs to be cheaper).
Thanks in advance

Dear Travna,
You might try Hand Hands Tatting, Barbara Foster, Paxton, Illinois on
the computer. She sells many threads. I never heard of a double bobbin
shuttle. If you find out, please let me know. I teach needle and shuttle
tatting, crochet, knitting, and smocking. I make smocked dresses. Donna

Dear Donna,

I believe the name of the company you ment is Handy Hands Tatting
http://www.handyhandstatting.com/ The only one I saw on line at this time
is one of the two she is not looking for, the Gr-8 Two Bobbin Shuttle.
This one stacks them. Opps, On page 2 I found Pelc 2-bobbin Shuttle. They
also make them to hold them side by side, by some other companies. I
believe I had seem a few on ebay reasently.

Dear Trayna,

Have you tried checking a search engine? http://www.dogpile.com showed
this different one at this site http://www.mielkesfarm.com/wv_shut.htm

I know nothing about these companies.
These were on the first page. There were two more but the hour is late and
with the time change figgure in I need to be off.

Hi to all,
I just found an old old tatting set made of ivory-bone and put up for
auction on ebay.com. I realized there are tons of tatting supplies up
for auction there. It looks like you can get supplies cheap and also
there are a large amount of vintage collectible tatting things.
Thought you might be interested. :o)

Dear Wrangler Mom,
Your ivory shuttle is valluable. How much are you asking? Ivory has
streeks and celluloid is plain looking. I want to get on e-bay. Does the
cost of $5.00 often or a one time cost? Should I get a number. I don't want
to give them my account number. I teach shuttle and needle tatting, crochet,
smocking, knitting and make English Smocked little girl dresses. I want to
sell the dresses, tatting, and my video on shuttle and needle tatting and
crochet. I want to write articles on tatting. Any help would be
appreciated. Donna tattinglady@...

HI, If you would like to email me personally I will be happy to help
you with getting into ebay. It does not cost a dime!!! ...Or at least
it never used to. Anyway, glad to help. The title to my ad
is, "CARVED Set IVORY Bone Tatting Shuttle Pin Crochet Picot" If you
copy and paste this (w/out the quotation marks) into ebay's search
system you will find it. Good luck. I'm sure you have a good seller
on your hands. I had no idea there was so much interest in tatting. I
have some very special pieces that my great grandmother made. Nothing
could replace them! Anna

Dear All
I have a few books/pamphlets that I have duplicates of and would like
to swap ideally (or sell if I have to) for particularly vintage (but
new would do) books/pamphlets I don't have. I'll put a list of them
below and please email me PRIVATELY if you want something.

1) Tatting Patterns by Mary Konior (1989) pub by Batsford,
ISBN 0852198000. This hardback book is in near perfect condition

3) Tatting Book no 43 by Anne Orr (1942). This pamphlet is in so-so
condition but complete.

4) Tatting for Dress and Home (Book no 469) by J & P Coats (1940's).
This pamphlet is in perfect condition.

5)Tatting for Dress and Home (Book no 469) by J & P Coats (1940's).
This pamphlet is in perfect to very, very good condition.

6) Learn to Tat (Book no 330) by J & P Coats (1940's). This pamphlet
is in poor condition but complete.

7) Learn to Tat (Book no 330) by J & P Coats (1940's). This pamphlet
is in poor condition but complete.

8) Tatting Designs (Book no 380) by J & P Coats (1940's). This
pamphlet is in poor condition but complete.

9) Tatting by Penelope pub by Wm Briggs & Co. (1940's) The cover of
this pamphlet is split but present and the inside is in good
condition.

10) The Tatter's Treasure Chest edited by Mary Carolyn Waldrep (1990)

condition.

in fair to poor condition.

As I said before I would prefer to swap for something I don't have
rather than sell but am open to offers.

Dear Friend,
I have 50 workbaskets to trade for your tatting pamlets. The magazine
is out of print. The years vary from 1950-90.
I make smocked little baby girl dresses and add tatting on to them. I also
have a tatting video for sale if anyone is interested. I have tatted for
30 years on shuttle and 15 on the needle. Thank you. Donna

Hi. I have uploaded a photo of my first doily. I tatted an intial "S"
by Gillian Buchanan and tatted around it. I tried a few patterns and
found that the clover pattern was good for an irregular motif. I
decided on the pattern by Needle Tatting Two called "rose in the
snow". I changed the pattern somewhat to accommodate the different shape.

I have a question about split rings. Does anyone make split rings
with only one shuttle? I do. If there is only 1 or 2 split rings in
the whole project (for instance, climbing out of a round), then I
don't see the need for using two shuttles. I make the split ring by
laying the project on the table or floor, and put the ball thread thru
the loops and visa versa. I guess it's the lazy way to do it. I was
wondering if anyone else does this.

Dear Michelle,
Your idea is very good. You could submit it to Barbara Foster of Handy
Hands in Paxton, Illinois. She has a company that sells books, shuttles,
thread, etc. I like to make split rings on the needle method for tatting.
I'm trying to sell my tatting and smocked dresses for little girls. Do you
know of a person or place that would be interested? Donna

Dear Donna "Tattinglady",

I am wondering if you are aware that every time you reply to
someone's message on this email list that your message gets sent to
*everyone* on this list. Please don't take this as a criticism - It
just seems that you may not understand how an email list like this
one works. For example: You have posted some 15 messages to this
list since you've joined and almost every one of them contains your
advertisement of your video and asking for referrals for selling your
work.

I know I can't speak for others, but I joined the list in order to
read others' posts about their ideas, get-togethers and just fun
tatting information and I wouldn't want it to be just for marketing
promotion. :o)

Everyone else, please don't hesitate to let me know if I've
overstepped my bounds and am butting in with my personal opinion
where it's not wanted or needed...

Warmly,
Michelle

Dear Michelle
I was asking those who tatted if they needed help. If they don't
respond, that their choice. If they want my video, they can e-mail me,
which is their choice also. I teach shuttle and needle tatting and have
taught many ladies and understand their frustration in not understanding
tatting. Donna

Hi all,

I am new to tatting but have a very inquisitive mind. I would like to
ask about reverse tatting. There is a way to tat with a shuttle even
if you don't know how to do the "flip" and that is called reverse
tatting (as in split ring). I feel it is easier, and if one was new
and didn't know any better, they would think it is actually the
"correct" way to tat, and flipping it is the reverse way. All the
techniques can be accomplished in reverse (I think), just as in
directional. Alot of people give up with the shuttle (my sister
included) because they can't get the "flip". I showed my sister how
to tat in reverse and problem solved! She's happy she gets to use
the shuttle now. I was wondering why reverse tatting isn't taught as
an alternative?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Dear Donna,

I think it's wonderful that you want to help others learn how to
tat. My only point, and again I don't say it to hurt your feelings,
is that you have already offered help to anyone who wants it at least
a dozen times. Everyone on the list now has your information if they
want to contact you and you don't need to repeat your offer every
time someone posts to the list. Does this make sense? I'm sorry if
I'm not being very clear. I only wanted to help, not be mean. I'm
so glad you're out there teaching, Donna!

Warmly,
Michelle

Dear Tatters,
I just love looking at everyone's work and reading your posts with
interesting questions. Someday I will learn. In the meantime I was
wondering, how long does it take the average tatter to make the
average book mark, doily, or more intricate doily? Just curious.

The work I see on this sight is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Donna,
You ask how long it takes to make a bookmark or for that matter anything in
tatting......as with any other craft it takes as long as you are preppared or
allowed to work at it....all patterns are different so can take different times
to complete....I would like to encourage you to learn as it is a wonderfully
soothing pastime and not hard at all..it is also very convinient as it is so
small a craft to carry around in your pocket or handbag..the shuttle is amall
you see so can be taken anywhere.
Let me know how you go and if I can help in any way I am always available.
Many hugs
Joy in Australia
