Hi Everyone:
Need something to help you to sleep? Try making one of these
comfortable and attractive eye masks from these free patterns:

http://freecrochetpattern.weebly.com/crochet-patterns-eye-masks.html

***Man, oh man!!! Wouldn't Ray and I love a pair of the 1 hour masks? I'll
have to take up crocheting once this project is over.

I had a lady ask me, "What are you going to do now that the war is over?" Don't
you wonder how some people manage...without a clue what's going on in the world?

Love to you all,

It's time for a purple heart for the victims at Ft. Hood and Little Rock!

Show your support for our troops by joining us in correcting this outrageous
injustice!!

Dear Patriot,

Did you know that the military victims of Islamic jihad terrorism at Ft. Hood
and the Little Rock Recruitment Center are not eligible for the Purple Heart?

The reason is that our Defense Department is defining these acts as "criminal"
acts rather than as acts of "war." In fact, the Ft. Hood massacre was classified
as "workplace violence!"

This is in keeping with the Obama administration position that terrorists like
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of 9/11, are not "enemy combatants" but
"alleged criminals."

Not only do we strongly disagree with this designation, we find it outrageous
and completely unacceptable that those in our armed forces killed by jihadists
on our soil are not eligible for the Purple Heart.

Do you agree? Would you like to help us correct this injustice?

Then log on here
http://tool.donation-net.net/ACT4America/PurpleHeartPetition.cfm?dn=1097&commID=\
87403175&ID=266535 and add your name to the Open Letter we will be sending to
the chairmen of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.

In the letter, we urge them to pass H.R. 1142, introduced by Rep. Allen West.
Here's an excerpt from this letter:

H.R. 1142, the Global Combat Zone Recognition Act, was introduced by
Congressman Allen West and would assure that a member of the Armed Forces killed
or wounded in a terrorist attack is afforded the same protections and treatments
as one killed or wounded in a traditional active "combat zone."

Help us pour tens of thousands of names behind this letter into the Armed
Services Committees of both the House and Senate. Let them know the American
people are outraged at this injustice and that we expect action!!

This is a chance for us to do more than "honor and support our troops" with our
words. It only takes moments to add your name—and you can even forward this
letter to others you know.

Let's take action to correct this injustice today!!

Thanks to Anita Beschart for sharing this with me....

VIETNAM IMMIGRANT

It looks like we did some good after all! On Saturday, July 24th, 2010 the town
of Prescott Valley , AZ, hosted a Freedom Rally. Q uang Nguyen was asked to
speak on his experience of coming to America and what it means. He spoke the
following in dedication to all Vietnam Veterans. Thought you might enjoy hearing
what he had to say:

"35 years ago, if you were to tell me that I am going to stand up here speaking
to a couple thousand patriots, in English, I'd laugh at you. Man, every morning
I wake up thanking God for putting me and my family in the greatest country on
earth.

"I just want you all to know that the American dream does exist and I am living
the American dream. I was asked to speak to you about my experience as a first
generation Vietnamese-American, but I'd rather speak to you as an American.

"If you hadn't noticed, I am not white and I feel pretty comfortable with my
people.

"I am a proud US citizen and here is my proof. It took me 8 years to get it,
waiting in endless lines, but I got it, and I am very proud of it.

"I still remember the images of the Tet offensive in 1968, I was six years old.
Now you might want to question how a 6-year-old boy could remember anything.
Trust me, those images can never be erased. I can't even imagine what it was
like for young American soldiers, 10,000 miles away from home, fighting on my
behalf.

"35 years ago, I left South Vietnam for political asylum. The war had ended. A t
the age of 13, I left with the understanding that I may or may not ever get to
see my siblings or parents again. I was one of the first lucky 100,000
Vietnamese allowed to come to the US . Somehow, my family and I were reunited 5
months later, amazingly, in California . It was a miracle from God.

"If you haven't heard lately that this is the greatest country on earth, I am
telling you that right now. It was the freedom and the opportunities presented
to me that put me here with all of you tonight. I also remember the barriers
that I had to overcome every step of the way. My high school counselor told me
that I cannot make it to college due to my poor communication skills. I proved
him wrong. I finished college. You see, all you have to do is to give this
little boy an opportunity and encourage him to take and run with it. Well, I
took the opportunity and here I am.

"This person standing tonight in front of you could not exist under a
socialist/communist environment. By the way, if you think socialism is the way
to go, I am sure many people here will chip in to get you a one-way ticket out
of here. And if you didn't know, the only difference between socialism and
communism is an AK-47 aimed at your head. That was my experience.

"In 1982, I stood with a thousand new immigrants, reciting the Pledge of
Allegiance and listening to the National Anthem for the first time as an
American. To this day, I can't remember anything sweeter and more patriotic than
that moment in my life.

"Fast forwarding, somehow I finished high school, finished college, and like any
other goofball 21 year old kid, I was having a great time with my life. I had a
nice job and a nice apartment in Southern California . In some way and somehow,
I had forgotten how I got here and why I was here.

"One day I was at a gas station, I saw a veteran pumping gas on the other side
of the island. I don't know what made me do it, but I walked over and asked if
he had served in Vietnam . He smiled and said yes. I shook and held his hand.
The grown man began to well up. I walked away as fast as I could and at that
very moment, I was emotionally rocked. This was a profound moment in my life. I
knew something had to change in my life. It was time for me to learn how to be a
good citizen. It was time for me to give back.

"You see, America is not just a place on the map, it isn't just a physical
location. It is an ideal, a concept. And if you are an American, you must
understand the concept, you must accept this concept, and most importantly, you
have to fight and defend this concept. This is about Freedom and not free stuff.
And that is why I am standing up here.

"Brothers and sisters, to be a real American, the very least you must do is to
learn English and understand it well. In my humble opinion, you cannot be a
faithful patriotic citizen if you can't speak the language of the country you
live in. Take this document of 46 pages - last I looked on the Internet, there
wasn't a Vietnamese translation of the US Constitution. It took me a long time
to get to the point of being able to converse and until this day, I still
struggle to come up with the right words. It's not easy, but if it's too easy,
it's not worth doing.

"Before I knew this 46-page document, I learned of the 500,000 Americans who
fought for this little boy. I learned of the 58,000 names scribed on the black
wall at the Vietnam Memorial. You are my heroes. You are my founders.

"At this time, I would like to ask all the Vietnam veterans to please stand. I
thank you for my life. I thank you for your sacrifices, and I thank you for
giving me the freedom and liberty I have today. I now ask all veterans,
firefighters, and police officers, to please stand. On behalf of all first
generation immigrants, I thank you for your services and may God bless you all."

Just a note to say you can remove me from the crochet list....We're still
making coolers and when it crochet, it for soap-on-a-ropes.
Someday......:) Thanks

I'm sorry to say that there is no way to remove you from certain emails while
allowing others to come through. But, the good news is - I agree with you!!!

This group is about troop support and while we started out posting crochet
patterns for things like sleep boots, we're now way off base with frogs, purses
and table runners.

We're not a crochet group. We're all about troop support so I'm going to
request that our moderators stop posting the unrelated stuff. If it's in some
way relevant to helping troops - fine. If it's not, just delete it. OK?

Does that work for everyone?

Thanks,

are about beaded purses, potholders, etc. If it's not of value to deployed
troops, we're not going to let them through.

www.angelfire.com
yarn angel-- i make mine by using pink  yarn for the head and  red-white and
blue yarn  for the body then use white  Christmas sparkle yarn for the wings and
hanger. i use red 1/4 inch ribbon for the hanger or gold crochet thread

www.crochet.com/snowflake
sweetie the snowflake by sally ives-- you can leave them plain or put eyes and
rouge on them..

evsbeadiecrafts.com
paper clip angel    i use pony beads in red - white and blue or camo beads if
you can find them.. the sites will tell you what to use and show you how to make
it..

the plastic rings from juices, pop bottles , nut jars make cute wreaths--- you
can single or double crochet around the ring then slip stitch together after you
get back to the first stitch.. then crochet three  skip one stitch and do a slip
stitch or single crochet in next stitch-- do this all the way around to the
first stitch then slip stitch-- pull the yarn as long as the hanger you want
then slip stitch down to where you ended your last row--leave enough yarn when
you cut it to weave in the end..

the felt Christmas stockings i make are  5 inches wide by 10 inches long with a
three inch white cuff, the printed Christmas patterns ones are 6 wide and 12
inches long-- at the top i fold it  1/4 inch and iron it then fold it about 1
and a half inches again and stitch it across.. that will keep it  from
unraveling and give it a nice top.

do not send any rings from milk jugs they are
to  soft and will not be round  shape after you get done crocheting.. you can
send them in a business size envelope or a 4 x 6 brown envelope.. i will crochet
the wreaths and decorate them with red and blue buttons or beads and put a small
ribbon on it..

I work all years on these crafts.. many I take with me when we go camping to
work on while hubby goes fishing or biking.. we just got back from a two week
camp trip and will be leaving for another two weeks this coming Tuesday, then we
will take 5 days up north and 4 days close to home before we put the motorhome
in storage for the Winter.. I would of rather had a cottage with water frontage
that we could spend 3 seasons there but hubby likes camping at different
places..

So Karen you will be  getting a hugh box at Crossroads with peanut butter,
Christmas stuff, socks, shampoo[[those have the tops taped shut and are in
plastic bags]] toothpaste, wash cloths, hand and toe warmers, pop corn and maybe
some left over Halloween candy or juice pouches..Wish i had known about the
article in Womens World magazine earlier, I could of printed it and put it on
the camp grounds bulletin boards.. Hubby looked for it when he did the grocery
shopping Wednesday and the clerk told him it was a weekly magazine-- i could
write or call for a copy but it wouldn't get here before next Tuesday...

Thanks huggers for all you do for our troops..May you all have a safe Winter and
wonderful Holiday season..
