"There Is Hope for the Disabled"

Writing this message will not take a few pages. It will
require  intensive level of creativity in the minds of many
pastors, Bible study  leaders, evangelists, medical doctors,
psychiatrists, counselors, government  officials, and people
like yourselves. I have many ideas on how to help the
mentally ill, but it will be difficult and hard. I believe
that my  experience in helping my friend James with cerebral
palsy can help shed some  light of hope on how we can help
the disabled. Although James is not at all  mentally ill, he
has a severe physical disability. He has a MBA. He is very
brilliant. He just has a horrible inability to move his own
body. This  does not mean that he is stupid by all means. His
success story may not be  cloned successfully if I apply what
I know about his success to help the  mentally ill, in
particular. Although both cases are different, there is  hope.



Before I discuss the James' success story, I want to give
all of the  credit to his success to our God and to James
himself. I have literally done  nothing to help him find a
job at Disneyland as an office assistant in the  Accounting
Department. I simply try to be his friend. Of course, I am
not the only person, who tries to care for James. It is a
collaboration  of help from everyone in our local church at
Cerritos Presbyterian Church at  Artesia, California. Basically,
we all take turns helping James out. Not one  person tries to
help James alone. I am somewhat a team leader in our church
helping my friend James out. If it were not for my church,
then helping  my friend would have ended in total failure.
Team work is an essential  operation of help for him.



Of course, James has a great character and personality. He
is really a  good person in a very bad position in terms of
finding a job. He was at a  point of giving up, and I was
afraid that James may give up his faith in  God. I would have
done the same thing myself if I were him. He has a mind of
a genius, but his physical handicap is equivalent to that of
a 2 year  old child. I really have felt that it is a serious
loss to our community if  he simply has given up. So, I make
some sacrifices to help him in terms of  time, pride, and
grades in school. I have also prayed for him. When I mean
prayer, I have prayed a lot for my friend James in the car,
in church,  and in my home. I have sent e-mails asking the
entire world to help my  friend in terms of prayer and support.
I have provided him rides to church.  I have helped him seek
legal counsel in terms of finding a job. I have tried  to help
him find a job as a newspaper editor. I have taken everything
what it takes to help him since he is too important to the
Universal  Protestant Christian Church to lose him.



I almost have given up on him. Every time I almost have given
up,  people in Cerritos Presbyterian Church at Artesia,
California have come to  our rescue by reminding me not to give
up on my friend and by helping James  themselves.



After I have left my church so that I can work in Korea at
Samsung  Electro-Mechanics, I have set up a system of help for
the people to care for  him. He has went to another church at
Bethel Korean Church because the city  of Artesia is a little
far from his home at Irvine. He has not found a job  after 1 to
2 years of help before I left to Korea. I really have felt
badly leaving him all alone in Irvine without my presence over
there.  Nevertheless, he finally lands a job at Disneyland
working as an office  assistant in the Accounting Department at
Disneyland after I have left  California to work in Korea.

Clubbing

After I became a Christian, I decided not to go to those
silly  singles or dance bars. Nevertheless, when I was
living at Irvine,  California, there was Metropolis, a
dance club in Orange County. I always  walked home from
the UC Irvine campus to my home at Oxford Court, and
Metropolis was along the way. Whenever I passed through
Irvine  Marketplace, God brought me to Metropolis to
evangelize there. There were  many people lined up to
enter Metropolis. Yes, there were probably some gang
members who went there, too. I would not be surprised
that they carried  knives and other hidden weapons in
their shoes or pockets. I would not be  surprised that
some of women in Metropolis got raped or injured
without  reporting to the local police. However, I was
not afraid to die there. So, I  talked about the Bible
OUTSIDE to the people in Metropolis by using my tract
testimony on how I became a Christian. Nevertheless,
I never entered  there.


I thought no Christian would be over there dancing,
drinking,  partying, and having sex at Metropolis. To
my sadness, some of people in  Metropolis claimed to
be Christians, and they were there. I saw one girl,
who went to China for missions, smoking, drinking,
and laughing her way  through Metropolis. She probably
thought that she was having a great time  and hoping
to find her boyfriend, who can love her and die for
her. In  reality, none of the guys at Metropolis
would give up their lives for their  girlfriends or
else they would not bring their girlfriends over
there  and risk their safety in terms of murder and
rape. On the other hand, I did  understand why they
went there. The people in Metropolis were just
simply extremely lonely.


Later on, Metropolis was closed down. I believed the
Irvine  community was sick of Metropolis. When I was
in the United States, I went  clubbing only once in my
life as a Christian, and I hated it. I went against
my conscious when I went there. Yes, I was alone.
Yes, I was hoping to  find my girlfriend. The single
dance bars in LA were so crowded that it  reminded me
of the Seoul subways. It also reminded me of the SK
Telecom  or Sky commercial of a Korean dude dancing
with his mp3 player plugged into  his ears. He was
dancing alone at the singles dance club. There was
not  enough space available for him to dance his way
because the dance club was  so crowded. No girl was
dancing with him. He was simply alone. However, he
did enjoy his mp3 player playing, "Don't you wish
your girlfriend is so  hot like me?" His mp3 player
was his girlfriend. Like the Korean dude  dancing,
I cannot see anything when I was there. I saw the
puke all over  the bathrooms. When I saw some light,
I saw some of the girls overweight and  unattractive
dancing their way as if they were princesses. In my
opinion, the girls in the Seoul subways were a lot
cuter.


I do not find it very rational for any non-believer
or believer  actually enjoying being there at the
dance bars. I do not find it logical  for anyone
risking his or her life by going over there as well.
I find  the sisters gullible that they find it safe
to be there. Women do get raped  in those dance bars.
For me, I rather read books by R.C. Sproul than go
there. Also, I do not have time to visit there. Can
you tell me why some  believers spend time in those
dance bars instead of church? Can you tell me  why
some believers want to find their girlfriend/
boyfriend or marriage  partner by clubbing? Is it
really fun too?
