Not if it's a solid-state! I had a realistic TRC-431 that took a 1/2 hour to warm up before It would transmit, it didn't live long. "Lou M."...

There are numerous capacitors & resistors that go bad in these older radios as time goes by! Not always the electolytics either. Disc & paper tube capacitors...

Your Mark IV is not recieving weak signals good because I bet the tuibes and all the old capacitors and resistors have not been replaced, the radio is over 30...
