Hi Stephen

Have you got any pictures of Morphy Richards canister vacs in your
Green Shield Catalogues???

Am looking to find a pic ( if not the real thing) of our second vac
when I was a kid....rather like a Eureka/GE Swivel top, white with
grey trim, grey hose and accessories, hose connected and swiveled
from the top....

The GE swivel top has one of the best add lines "No Drag Around
Tragedy Here"!!!!(after the "Nothing Sucks Like An Electrolux" of
course...)

Cheers, Mike

Mike,

Love the club picture, the best ever.

Can't date the Vactrics but in the mid-fifties my Mother had the
brown cylinder cleaner and an aunt in Glasgow had the upright. I used
to sit on the cylinder cleaner and my Mum would drag me around by
pulling on the hose - it didn't matter as she hardly ever used it! My
aunt thought she was a cut above us as she had more carpet and rug so
needed the upright, which later on she admitted wasn't a patch on our
Hoover 1224 upright which replaced the brown cylinder.

Hi John

Glad you enjoyed the pic,

Same here with the brown vactric, only we had the National
version...that big clunky screw hose etc and the moth blower...

The upright is surprisingly powerful, the bag keeps blowing off its
holder ...lol...also has the tools with it as well, bag a bit faded
and not sure if it had writing on it or not.

I only learned recently my uncle used to sell them door to door so
I`m due a visit to see if I can gean any more info etc...vactric
dont seem to be big on model numbers etc...the machines dont appear
to have them stamped on like other makes...

Now I need to find the floor polisher and washers etc...

Happy hunting

Cheers, Mike

The new club picture is of the Morphy Richards VBA Super Suction
Cleaner from the 1950`s, retailing at £24.4.3, features AC 950w
motor, cloth or paper bags, full range of accessories including
blower, beige/bronze colour.

The later model was a white / grey with grey vynal hose, model CYLX,
has anybody ever seen one of these or better still have a pic etc???

Hi,

Clearing out some old kit that's been in the family for years:

A Hoover 0307 washing machine/mangle
A Hoover Junior 119
A National Industries vac
An unknown cylinder

Pictures here:
http://pictures-etc.tripod.com

If anyone knows what the last two are I'd be keen to hear.

Anyway, they're on ebay now (ebay user aec2323) if anyone's
interested.

Will probably be some more stuff as I go through the hoarded
possesions of the last few generations!

Thanks !

Hi:

I can't say for sure what brand name was on the cylinder cleaner but
it definately was made by Siroma Manufacturing and, as the cord is
removable it was probably made in the mid 1940's. If you would like
to see other similar machines go to my web page
(www.DKAS1.50megs.com) and select Siroma Eng. Hope this helps

Ah yes, that looks like the one! It's sold now and soon on its way
to the new owner. I'm not a collector and shouldn't be interested
really but the lack of info on that machine was really bugging me !

Thanks for putting me out of my misery!!

Hi to all you classic appliance people out there.

I'm Vic from New Zealand and I own a strange looking 'Kenwood Mixer'
It must be a very early model as I have not seen another. It has a
two beater attachment.

I was following a recipe that happened to say 2 cups instead of 2
tablespoons of flour and it was like cement - so what do you know!! I
wore the cogs out. Does anyone out there know where I can get these
cogs from?

Details on the bottom stand (which is a tear drop shape narrow end at
back):

Kenwood Mixer
Ser. No. 29391
Volts 200/250
Woodlau Industries Ltd
Woking - England
Prov: Pat. No. 31956/42
Regd: Des No. (doesn't appear to be one or unreadable)

It has a narrow neck stand, mechanics all in the bullet shaped body,
powered from the black turn dial at the rear (point of bullet)Steel
front cover where cogs are. The rest of the appliance is in a creamy
yellow enamel. Two steel beaters. Its not unlike a retro Sunbeam
Mixer a bit larger. very simple functioning no attachments, or
places for attachments to go (as far as I can see)

I've probably given too much information, these cake mixers are
probably prolific in the U.K - but I cannot find another here.

Can anyone help?? (O:

would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Vicky,

You are correct that is is a very old mixer, dating from the late
1940s - the "planetary" action machines being introduced around 1950.
These machines are very rare mainly I suppose because there were very
heavy restrictions on availability of all domestic appliances after
WW2 until about 1953 or so.

The resemblence to Sunbeam models is very striking and I have always
wondered if they were in fact imported and re-badged from another
manufacturer (prob. USA) or even Sunbeam themselves. There is another
Yahoo group which might be of more use to you WACEM (We Actually
Collect Electric Mixers) - although this is predominatly centered on
US machines there is a wealth of knowledge there and they may have an
alternative souce of supply.

Good luck in your search, this is definatly a machine to cherish

Al

sounds a bit like one ive got , never seen another by this maker
although i think they did a lot in the U.S ours is a scovill. we
never use it although its quite a nice mixer 10 speed with a single
double beater attachment, on a slim stem with a choice of two
different sized bowls that sit on a turntable. ours appears to be
late 50's or early 60's judging by the design. will post some
pictures of it soon. Jay

HI Vic

Welcome to the club...sounds like the very first mixer from
Kenwood...before the 50`s etc...dont think parts are available only
from scrapped machines and then earliest I have seen offered is the
later models of the 50 etc....

Are there any machine shops you could take the cogs to to be re-made
etc???

Will keep an eye open and let you know if anything comes about etc..

hi, like the new bendix , its a bit newer than the one we are using
which i dont have the model number of as the plates missing , but its
a big old thing front loading automatic and very art deco in style.
anyway if you look in photo folder marked jays appliances you will
see ive added a before and after pic of the main 122 super century
cooker ive just finished today, this one was snatched from the jaws
of death when i pulled it out of a front garden round the corner ten
minutes before the scrapman came for it, Its now up for sale on
another site ready to make room for the next one. gas cookers are
probably my favorite type of appliance but unfortuantly to big to
collect in any great number and very very time consuming to restore
properly.
below is a list of all the complete appliances i have at the moment
all are for sale some are mint some arent but they all work .
Ive just bought an early 50's double width frigidaire fridge so i
have to loose something before the missus goes mad.

currently i have.

pifco warmasphere 2 (see pics folder)
  goblin cleansweep with most tools
  vactric cylindr cleaner
hmv beehive room heater in beige
scovill ten spped singe attachment mixer
tricity melodie electric cooker with radio (1958?)
main super century gas cooker model 122
hotpoint single tub with electric mangle ( just visible in main
cooker pic
  belling electric cooker mid 50's
M R astral refridgerator half height absorbtion fridge( this was
fitted with a new element 6 months ago)
prestcold L71 fridge (1951) fully restored
Frigidaire frimatic in mettalic black finish with peach coloured
interior.

there also a load of other stuff but the place is so packed i cant
remember what there is. and many many spare including quite a few for
hoover constellations.

Thanks Alister, Jay and Mike for your replies and suggestions.

I have visited the WACEM site and found my machine, yes it is likely
to be one of the first models( they have a picture on slide 17 of the
photos) and I am unlikely to find the parts I want - although I will
keep looking and would love to hear from anyone who has one of these
machines that isn't working and they don't really need the cogs (mine
is fine otherwise) as cogs are internal it does effect the asthetics
of the machine to take them out.

As to getting them machined at an engineering factory - I have
thought of this option, but as it would be a one off it is unlikely
to be economically viable. Does anyone have any idea what these
machines are worth if they are operating - is it valuable to a
collector?? I'll ask at the WACEM site also

Cheers and thanks so much for your help

Hi Keith

The Bendix is in great condition, has been kept in a heated garage

Would`nt want to move this one to many times!!!! have posted a few
more pics last week of the hoover single tubs and spina rinse
models, have a look and let me know what you think.....also a few
more vacs as i was having a sort out....

Hi Jay

Good look with the venture...the Frigidaire looks worthy of a
restore...these fridges just kept on going etc...do these models
have fiberglass insulation etc...are there any restrictions with
regards to re-gassing these models now with all the new EC
regulations???

Cheers, Mike

Hi ppl

I work for a domestic appliance repairer(also sales). It is illegal
to work on the sealed system of any appliance that uses R12 or
earlier gas- anything over approx 8-10 years old.

Hi Mike

Nice pair of 652a seniors. The Green one is quite unusual me thinks in
that it has the old type (under chasis) switch., Ive only ever seen
this on the Rose 652 and the Grey 652a. That is also an amazing
Bendix- must be pretty much unique!
