You did not state the cause of death.

It would conflict with present documents if caused by foreign hostile
acts.

Do you have information regarding the early period of the Cold War, 9
May 1945 to 25 April 1962?

POWER OF THE PEN - THE VOICE OF VICTORY

We are in the midst of Labor Day weekend, the weekend we celebrate our hard work
by taking an extra day off of work - to play. I ask you to set aside 1 hour
this weekend to write a Letter to the Editor. This letter can even do double
duty, as once it is complete, you can fax it to your representative in Congress
and share your voice with him/her as well. Families United has over 50000
members, if each one of us writes just 1 letter - the editors across the country
will find Patriotic messages in their inbox / mailbox on September 4! Picture
the Washington Post editor getting 2000 Support the Troops letters-to-the-editor
in 1 day!

Below are tips for writing your letter, your hero's story is special and it is
important to say it in your words.
Surrender is not an option - withdrawal on a timeline leaves Iraq vulnerable to
AlQaeda.
The new strategy under General Petraeus is working .
Withdrawing troops from Iraq will have disastrous results for the people of Iraq
, the region and for America .
Our Troops deserve the united support of the American people.

We must stand United for a Strong America !

Share your letters with us and we'll post them on our blog!

Letter to the Editor Tips

Step 1: Take a strong stand on your issue and make it clear.
· We are winning this war.
· The primary problems we now face on the ground are controllable, given
a strong American military presence.
· Now is not the time to declare defeat - now is the time to unite for
victory!

Step 2: Choose an outlet for your editorial.
· You local newspaper is your best shot at getting your letter
published.
· Check out http://www.refdesk.com/paper.html This site lists every
newspaper by state.

Step 3: Write the letter.
· Keep it 150-200 words.
· Make sure to spell check and grammar check.

Step 4: Send your letter to the editor
· Check with the recipient organization on the preferred method (fax,
mail or email.)

Step 5: Send your letter to your legislator - fax or email is preferred
· To locate your representative, visit www.house.gov & www.senate.gov

Sept 3 - 15: "Fight for Victory Tour" by Move America Forward

Move America Forward will launch its Fight for Victory Tour on Monday, September
3. They will travel across America to share their voice in support of our
Troops and the completion of Their Mission - the protection of the Freedoms we
enjoy because they serve! They protect our Voice! It's our turn to Rally... We
must join as a united voice and let the media, our leaders, our Troops, and the
world know that we stand UNITED FOR A STRONG AMERICA ! United - America will
never be defeated!
Attached is the link to the Victory Tour's itinerary / travel route. If the
tour is stopping in your town, please do all you can to make sure the Rally has
a crowd of Proud American's showing their support! Contact your local VFW,
American Legion, Patriot Guard Riders, all the patriotic American's you know ...
make sure they all know that this is the time to raise our Voice in Support of
Our Troops and Their Mission! Contact the media to make sure they know the
Rally is coming to town and they will report it!
We'll see everyone in Washington D.C. for the big Gathering of Eagles rally on
Saturday September 15 at 9:30 on the Capitol Mall (somewhere between 4th & 7th
near the Aerospace Museum ).

"Die In" planned by A.N.S.W.E.R. on Sept 15 in D.C.

The Anti-War / Anti-Success crowd are also planning rallies in D.C. for
September 15. Our heroes lay down their lives to defend and protect their right
to free speech and assembly. However, their "Die-In" goes too far. The die-in
uses the names and faces of our fallen heroes - without our families' permission
- to promote their anti-war message - a message our heroes do not believe and
did not fight for. The Die-in message goes against everything our heroes stand
for. Editorial on the Die-in.

We are working to counter the "Die-In" message. The last thing we wish to do is
to cause controversy at the event - because that is what they want and that gets
them media attention. However, we do wish to take a stand in a positive way.
The Gold Star families who will be in D.C. for the GOE rally, will be meeting
and voicing our support of the troops. We will ask for equal media time. In
addition, we would like to take with us signed letters from Gold Star families
demanding that A.N.S.W.E.R and their affiliates no longer misuse our heroes and
clearly stating that they do not have the "right" to use our hero's names and we
protect that right as the heir of our he ro.

Attached to this newsletter is a letter that has blanks that may be filled in by
a Gold Star family, signed, scanned and emailed - or faxed to me. I will take
copies of these with me to D.C. Please, share this with all the Gold Star
families you know so we can have a majority of our fallen heroes' and their
families represented.

United for a Strong America - Washington , D.C. - September 16-19

Families United is excitedly preparing for our event in Washington , D.C.
September 16-19. We are able to bring up to 600 of our members for events in
support of our troops and their mission. If you have not yet turned in your
R.S.V.P., please do so today! Our hotels must all be locked in by Sept. 4! We
will be making all flight and hotel reservations.

Information regarding flights, hotel and itinerary will be emailed to
participants on Wednesday, Sept. 5. We appreciate your patience - we've
received a lot of RSVPs in the last few days and we wish to make everyone's trip
the best possible experience!

Our DC agenda will include a breakfast and dinner event, Tours of the D.C.
monuments and history, the Pentagon, Washington Monument , White House, Capitol
Hill as well as a wreath laying ceremony and dedication at the Tomb of the
Unknown.

Together we will share our heroes and our voices and re-dedicate ourselves to
stand United for a Strong America!

Stand by the American Mission in Iraq
Vets for Freedom has a new petition on their website and we'd like to encourage
everyone to go to the petition and sign it. The petition starts like this....

Iraq is now the central front in the War on Terrorism - not because Americans
want it to be but because America 's enemies have said so and made it so.
Al-Qaeda and Iranian-backed militias are determined to drive the United States
out of Iraq . Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups would then use that country as
a safe haven from which they can mount attacks on the U.S. , its interests and
allies.
We recognize that the U.S. involvement in Iraq has divided Americans and that
our leaders have made mistakes. We also recognize the cost of this war, not only
in financial terms but, more importantly, in the loss of more than 3,000 of our
bravest men and women. The issue, however, is not how or why U.S. forces became
engaged in Iraq but, rather, what is happening there now and what would happen
if we were to leave too soon.

Subject: China's influence spreads around world

   China's influence spreads around world
   Saturday, September 01, 2007 11:43:51 PM
For nearly three decades, Chinese peasants have left their villages for
crowded dormitories and sweaty assembly lines, churning out goods for world
markets. Now, China is turning the tables.
Here in the Australian Outback, Shane Padley toils in the scorching heat, 2,000
miles from his home, to build an extension to a liquefied natural gas plant that
feeds China's ravenous hunger for energy.
At night, the 34-year-old carpenter sleeps in a tin dwelling known as a "donga,"
the size of a shipping container and divided into four rooms, each barely big
enough for a bed. There are few other places for Padley to live in this
boomtown.
Duct-taped to the wall is a snapshot of the blonde girlfriend he left behind and
worries he may lose. But, he says, "I can make nearly double what I'd be making
back home in the Sydney area."
The reason: China.
For years, China's booming economy touched daily life in the West most visibly
through the "made-in-China" label on everything from clothes to computers. But
now, economic growth is giving rise to something more that can't be measured
just by widgets and gadgets – a shift in China's balance of power with the rest
of the world.
China's reach now extends from the Australian desert through the Sahara to the
Amazonian jungle – and it's those regions supplying goods for China, not just
the other way around. China has stepped up its political and diplomatic
presence, most notably in Africa, where it is funneling billions of dollars in
aid. And it is increasingly shaping the lifestyle of people around the world, as
the United States did before it, right down to the Mandarin-language courses
being taught in schools from Argentina to Virginia.
China, like the United States, is also learning that global power cuts both
ways. The backlash over tainted toothpaste and toxic pet food has been severe,
as has the criticism over China's support for regimes such Sudan's.
To understand why China's influence is increasingly pushing past its borders,
just do the math.
When 1.3 billion people want something, the world feels it. And when those
people in ever increasing numbers are joining a swelling middle class eager for
a richer lifestyle, the world feels it even more.
If China's growth continues, its consumer market will be the world's second
largest by 2015. The Chinese already eat 32 percent of the world's rice, build
with 47 percent of its cement and smoke one out of every three cigarettes.
China's desire for expensive hardwood to turn into top-quality floorboards for
its luxury skyscrapers has penetrated deep into the Amazon jungle. For example,
in the isolated community of Novo Progresso, or New Progress in Portuguese, one
of the biggest sawmills was started by the mayor with financing from Chinese
investors.
China accounts for 30 percent of the wood exported from logging operations in
remote towns across Brazil's rain forest, where trucks carry the finished
product hundreds of miles along muddy roads to river ports, said Luiz Carlos
Tremonte, who heads an influential wood industry association. Many Chinese
purchasers now travel to Brazil to clinch deals, and are almost always
accompanied at business meetings by friends or relatives of Chinese descent who
live there.
"Ten years ago no one knew about China in Brazil; then the demand just exploded
and they're buying a lot," Tremonte said. "This wood is great for floors, and
they love it there."
The Bovespa stock index in Brazil has climbed more than 300 percent since 2002,
riding the China wave.
China is buying coal mining equipment from Poland and drilling for oil and gas
in Ethiopia and Nigeria. It has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into
Zambia's copper industry. It is the world's biggest market for mobile phones,
headed for 520 million handsets this year. The list goes on.
Along with looking to other countries for goods for its people, China is also
going far and wide in search of markets for its products.
In war-torn Liberia, where electricity is hard to come by, Chinese-made Tiger
generators keep the local economy humming. Costlier Western brands, favored by
aid agencies and diplomats, are beyond the reach of small business owners such
as Mohammed Kiawu, 30, who runs a phone stall in the capital, Monrovia.
A used Tiger generator costs around $50, he said over the steady beat of his
generator. "But even $250 is not enough to buy a used American or European
generator. They are not meant for people like myself."
The Chinese generators are more prone to break down, Kiawu said. When the
starter cable snapped on one, he replaced it with twine. But by making items for
ordinary people, he predicted, China "will take control of the heart of the
common people of Africa soon."
China is having to make up for decades of economic stagnation after the
communist takeover in 1949.
When Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping began dabbling in economic reforms in 1978,
farmers were scraping by. By 2005, income had increased sixfold after adjusting
for inflation to $400 a year for those in the countryside and $1,275 for urban
Chinese, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics.
"The Chinese don't want war – the Chinese just want to trade their way to
power," said David Zweig, a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology. "In the past, if a state wanted to expand, it had to take territory.
You don't need to grab colonies any more. You just need to have competitive
goods to trade."
If China stays on the same economic track, it would become the world's largest
economy in 2027, surpassing the United States, according to projections by
Goldman, Sachs & Co., a Wall Street investment bank. And unlike Japan, which
rose in the 1980s only to fade again, China still has a huge pool of workers to
tap and an emerging middle class that is just starting to reach critical mass.
Many development economists believe China still has 20 years of fairly high
growth ahead.
But the transition to a larger presence on the global stage comes with growing
pains, for China and the rest of the world.
As Beijing plays an ever bigger role in the developing world, some Western
countries fear it could undermine efforts to promote democracy. In its attempt
to secure markets and win allies, China is stepping up development aid to Africa
and Asia. Chinese President Hu Jintao pledged last year to double Chinese aid to
Africa between 2006 and 2009, promising $3 billion in loans, $2 billion in
export credits and a $5 billion fund to encourage Chinese investment in Africa.
China has also promised Cambodia a $600 million aid package and agreed to loan
$500 million to the Philippines for a rail project.
But China also extends aid to states such as Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Sudan whose
human rights records have lost them the support of the West. Actress Mia Farrow
has labeled next year's Beijing Olympics – a point of pride for China – the
"genocide Olympics" because of China's support for Sudan, at a time when the
West seeks to punish it for its military actions in Darfur. China buys
two-thirds of Sudan's oil output.
"In some ways, it will be integrating us into a new international order in which
democracy as we've known it or the right to open organized political activity is
no longer considered the norm," said James Mann, author of "The China Fantasy,"
a book about China and the West.
China is also facing some of the unease that powers before it have encountered.
In Africa and Asia, some complain that massive China-funded infrastructure
projects involve mostly Chinese workers and companies, rather than create jobs
and wealth for the local population. And Moeletsi Mbeki, a political commentator
and brother of South African President Thabo Mbeki, likens the trade of African
resources for Chinese manufactured goods to former colonial arrangements.
"This equation is not sustainable," Mbeki said at a recent meeting of the
African Development Bank in Shanghai. "Africa needs to preserve its natural
resources to use in the future for its own industrialization."
The backlash is also coming on the consumer front, with Chinese goods earning a
dubious reputation for quality. In the United States, there is a furor over the
standard of Chinese imports. In Bolivia, vendors peel off or paint over any
indication that their wares were "Hecho en China," Spanish for "Made in China."
A woman selling bicycles in El Alto, a poor city outside the capital, La Paz,
insisted they were made in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan or even India. With some
prodding, she acknowledged the truth. "They're all Chinese," she said, declining
to give her name lest it hurt her business. "But if I say they're Chinese, they
don't sell."
Even those who benefit from China's growth express some wariness. Aerospace
giant Boeing expects China to be the largest market for commercial air travel
outside the United States in the next 20 years, buying more than $100 billion
worth of commercial aircraft, U.S. trade envoy Karan Bhatia said in a recent
speech.
"Right now, we're hiring every week," noted Connie Kelliher, a union leader.
"Things couldn't be better."
Yet Boeing workers remain wary of China's ambitions to build its own planes.
next year China plans to test-fly a locally made midsize jet seating 78 to 85
passengers. It also has announced plans to roll out a 150-seat plane by 2020.
"It's kind of a double-edged sword," Kelliher said. "You want the business and
we want to get the airplane sales to them, but there's the real concern of
giving away so much technology that they start building their own."
That's what happened to Western and Japanese automakers, which made inroads in
the Chinese market only to see their designs copied and technologies stolen.
Already, China's vehicle manufacturers are venturing overseas, exporting 325,000
units last year – mostly low-priced trucks and buses to Asia, Africa and Latin
America.
"We're taking a bigger piece of the pie," said Yamilet Guevara, a sales manager
for Cinascar Automotriz, which has opened 20 showrooms in Venezuela in the past
18 months, offering cars from six Chinese makers. "They ask by name now. It's no
longer just the Chinese car. It's the Tiggo, the QQ."
China's biggest car company, Chery Automobile Co., just announced a deal with
the Chrysler Group to jointly produce and export cars to Western Europe and the
United States within 2 1/2 years.
Given the speed of China's ascent, it's perhaps not surprising that China itself
is trying to calm some of the fears. Its slogan for the Beijing Olympics:
"Peacefully Rising China."

bombed if we need it to) rifle factory? Jeez, it's not like an AK-
47 miraculously turns a peasant into a real soldier just by putting it
in his hands.

Not sure where to put it but, in the September/October issue of History
Magazine, the Prologue editorial talks about the Wreaths Across America program
and mentions "Now in partnership with the Civil Air Patrol, the Patriot Guard
Riders, and other civic-minded groups, Wreaths Across America aims to honor
veterans at every one of the nations 230 national and state
cemeteries;..................." for more information you can go to
www.wreaths-across-america.org i plan to buy a couple, at $15 a piece but maybe
we, as a NM group, can get something going and arrange a "buy" as NM PGR?
something to think about. rocket

     Hi
Just thought I'd drop a note about your posts. You are incorrect when you say
the Russians are building an AK-47 factory in Ven..
No one has produced the AK-47 since 1959 when it was replaced by the AKM then
marks like the AK-74 (5.5.6mm) on up to the AK-102.
The AKM assault carbine differs from the AK-47 assault carbine (Neither are
rifles, barrel is too short) in that it has a higher rate of fire, a stamped
receiver vs a milled receiver for the 47 and is about a pound lighter. Only
about 60% of the parts are interchangable between the AK-47 and AKM.

Subject: Veterans can now salute Old Glory without uniform

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today praised the
passage by unanimous consent of his bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S. law to
allow veterans and servicemen not in uniform to salute the flag. Current
law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and servicemen not
in uniform should place their hand over their heart without clarifying
whether they can or should salute the flag.

"The salute is a form of honor and respect, representing pride in one's
military service," Senator Inhofe said. "Veterans and service members
continue representing the military services even when not in uniform.

"Unfortunately, current U.S. law leaves confusion as to whether veterans
and service members out of uniform can or should salute the flag. My
legislation will clarify this regulation, allowing veterans and servicemen
alike to salute the flag, whether they are in uniform or not.

"I look forward to seeing those who have served saluting proudly at
baseball games, parades, and formal events. I believe this is an appropriate way
to honor and recognize the 25 million veterans in the United States who have
served in the military and remain as role models to others citizens. Those who
are currently serving or have served in the military have earned this right, and
their recognition will be an inspiration to others."

China's Army Hacked Pentagon Network

   Deutsche Presse-Agentur | September 05, 2007

China's Army hacked into a computer network at the Pentagon in an attack that
has US officials concerned about the growing regularity and sophistication of
China's technological assaults, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.
Computer specialists with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) penetrated an
unclassified network used by policy aides to US Defence Secretary Robert Gates
in June, resulting in a weeklong shutdown of the system, the newspaper said in a
report that quoted unnamed US officials.
The PLA has demonstrated the ability to conduct attacks that disable our
system ... and the ability in a conflict situation to re-enter and disrupt on a
very large scale," a former official was quoted as saying by the Financial
Times, adding that China's Army has also hacked into the networks of US defence
companies and think tanks.
The penetration of the Pentagon network three months ago came after the US
Defence Department had staved off the hacker attacks for several months and as
China's military has been testing the Pentagon networks hundreds of times a day
for the past few years, the British newspaper said in a report from Washington.
An unnamed senior US official told the Times that "no doubt" existed that
China was monitoring e-mails sent on unclassified US government networks.
The report was not the first accusing China's Army of breaking into the
computer networks of foreign governments. Germany's Der Spiegel news magazine
reported two days before German Chancellor Angela Merkel met Chinese Prime
Minister Wen Jiabao in Beijing last week that Chinese hackers had infiltrated
German government computers with spy programs.
The article said intelligence services suspected hackers in the Chinese army
were behind the online attacks on computers in Merkel's offices, the Foreign
Ministry, the Economics Ministry, and the Research and Development Ministry. The
first spy programs were found several months ago, it added, citing an
investigation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution,
Germany's domestic intelligence agency, and the Federal Office for Information
Security.
Although Wen and Merkel did not address the charges in Der Spiegel's report
when they spoke to reporters August 27, Wen vowed that his government would take
measures to eliminate hacker attacks.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also said during Merkel's visit that
Beijing opposes and has outlawed computer hacking and is cooperating with other
countries to combat computer crimes.

WE need phone calls to all US Senators in DC. WE need everyone's help,
  can
you call some Senators in DC? Will you?
After they handle the Defense Appropriations on the Senate side it will
  go
to conference committee, and the need to contact conferees will be the
  last
step. So we are getting close here!
Please help and let me know if you intend to and who you will

Presenter: Major General Sherlock, Director for Operational Planning, Joint
Chiefs of Staff September 06, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DoD Operational Update Briefing with Maj. Gen. Sherlock from the Pentagon
Briefing Room, Arlington Va

GEN. SHERLOCK: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Thanks for being here
today. I have a few opening comments and then I would like to take your
questions.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Felix and in response to requests from the
government of Nicaragua via the State Department, the U.S. Southern Command has
dispatched an assessment team from Honduras to assist the U.S. Agency for
International Development and the U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance Office with
assessing damage from the storm and with evaluating the relief efforts in the
areas affected by the storm. Additionally, SOUTHCOM has a variety of assets in
the region which are available and standing by to assist if needed.
As you know, the president came to the Pentagon last week to meet with the
secretary, the chairman and the joint chiefs to hear their assessments on Iraq
and other current operations. He then went to Iraq with his national security
team to visit our armed forces there and to hear from Ambassador Crocker and
General Petraeus. Ambassador Crocker and General Petraeus will provide their
assessments next week.
In Iraq, as we've previously announced, force rotations are continuing, and we
have approximately 168,000 U.S. troops in Iraq that are conducting operations
alongside Iraqi security forces, conducting reliefs in place and transfers of
authority, and training Iraqi security forces. Those troops, along with
approximately 25,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, are coalition partners
throughout the region, and Iraqi security forces and Afghan national security
forces are making enormous sacrifices every day to defeat and deter terrorists
and those who threaten freedom and the right to self-determination.
Before I take your questions, I'd like to correct an item from last week's
briefing. I received a question regarding the number of provinces under
provincial Iraqi control, and I answered there are about 14 of 18 provinces,
which was incorrect.
In fact, there are currently seven provinces under provisional Iraqi control,
and there are two others projected to transfer in the next few months.
And with that, I'll be happy to take your questions. Yes.
Q General, on the terrorist threat in Germany, I was wondering if you can
provide us any additional information or details on U.S. involvement in the
investigation, and also whether or not it was U.S. forces or U.S. personnel who
made the initial finding that someone was observing a base and whether or not
Ramstein is indeed one of the suspected, if not known, targets?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, first, this is a good chance to point out that the war on
terror isn't just a military war on terror. There are other avenues that we need
to pursue in the war on terror, which includes legal, law enforcement,
information and diplomatic.
I'd like to congratulate Germany and Denmark on the arrests they've made last
week. We coordinate and we're in close coordination with law enforcement
officials in whatever country we have our forces stationed to maintain force
protection, antiterrorism measures and a variety of means. So we're in
coordination with them, but that's about all I have on that subject.
Q You can't say whether or not Ramstein was even one of the potential or
suspected targets, if not something that's exactly known?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I don't know if Ramstein was the target, one of several targets
or not a target. It's a variety of things that the terrorists said, that they
wanted to inflict massive U.S. casualties. I'd also say that we coordinate with
the German government -- and again, everywhere we have forces stationed -- to
make sure that all of the appropriate measures are in effect.
Q Well, General, if I could follow up on that. Reports out of Germany said that
these suspects were first detected surveilling Ramstein Air Base, that they were
casing Ramstein Air Base, and that's how authorities in Germany were turned on
to them. Was it the U.S. force protection measures around the base that detected
that, or do you know -- or was it the Germans who first did that or not?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I've seen that same report that says they were first detected
around Ramstein, but they've cased several locations. They were looking for
several targets, anywhere where they could see the potential to try to inflict a
large number of casualties.
Again, as that investigation and as the results of that investigation are still
ongoing and Germany's conducting several different investigations as they go,
I'd rather not comment on that right now.
Yes, sir.
Q General, I've talked to industry, and they say that the sooner the Defense
Department says how many MRAPs they need next year the more vehicles they can
deliver to the government. Can you say when the Defense Department, JROC intend
on coming on a decision on how many more MRAPs they need?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, the secretary's MRAP task force is better positioned to
answer that question than I am. However, what I will say is that we are
committed to producing as many MRAPs as quickly as we can and getting them
deployed overseas into the hands of our soldiers as quickly as we can. We're
looking at ways to try to reduce the amount of time from the 50-55 days it takes
to install government- furnished equipment on those vehicles after they've
produced to get them into the shipment pipeline.
Q Can you say whether the JROC is expected to meet this month to take a look at
future MRAP needs?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I don't know what the JROC's agenda for this month is. I'll have
to get that back to you.
Q General Sherlock?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Yes.
Q Last week, you gave a description of how overall stability in Iraq is
assessed, and I'm wondering if this week you could provide as much detail as
possible about how the joint staff assesses what constitutes an act of sectarian
violence in Iraq.
GEN. SHERLOCK: I think the people that can answer that best are those that live
with it every day, which is MNF-I, MNC-I and the government of Iraq. MNF-I and
MNC-I have been very consistent in the way they've measured instances of
violence. I also think it's instructive to note that you should look at trends,
and we should look back here from 8,000 miles away at trends. Comparing
yesterday to today or last week to this week doesn't necessarily indicate a
trend. But when you look back over a period of time and can say that for eight
of the last 11 weeks over all instances of violence have decreased, I think that
indicates a trend.
That's another reason why we don't like to necessarily give statistics from the
podium because you can get into a variety of arguments about which statistics
from which group should be viewed in which context. And so I'd like to, first of
all, let General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker make their presentations next
week and see where that develops.
Q So when we hear that sectarian violence is down sharply, and I'm just
wondering, what -- I mean how is it determined? How -- what -- what is a
sectarian act of violence and what isn't?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Again, I'd refer you to MNF-I for that because they make the
determination. They look at what the statistics are of instances of violence.
You know, it's also hard to know what occurs everywhere throughout Iraq. We know
what occurs where we are and where the coalition forces are and where the Iraqi
security forces are, but we are not everywhere in Iraq, and so it's hard to
determine what happens in some areas where we're not present. And so, again, I'd
refer those questions to MNF-I.
Yes?
Q General, with the British pulling out of the center of Basra, does mean that
the United States is going to have to provide additional forces should the
British continue to draw down their forces there; or in a perfect world, would
you prefer that the British forces remain down there in that part of the
country?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, the first thing I'd like to note is that MND-Southeast
still exists.
There are still 5,000-plus U.K. forces in Basra, in MND-Southeast. This actually
is the fruition of a statement made by the British prime minister in February,
where he said they were going to turn over responsibility to Iraqi security
forces as they were able to accept it, and that they were looking to close three
forward operating bases in that province. This in fact is the third base being
closed.
There are still a robust presence of the U.K. in Basra. Again I'd like to let
the U.K. discuss the disposition of their own forces. And as I've said before,
every time you look to reposition forces, MNC-I and MNF-I look at the
battlefield geometry within the region and the whole country so that we make
sure we don't give up gains which we've already made as we go along.
Q Will this increase the responsibility for overwatch for U.S. forces for that
part of the country?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, I think we have to wait and see. I think we have to look at
the ability of the Iraqi security forces and the 10th Iraqi Army Division to
accept that responsibility. I think we have to wait and see what the levels of
violence are, and I think we have to see the reaction from the Iraqi people to
that readjustment.
Q Hasn't there been an increase in the levels of violence in the South as the
British have pulled back?
GEN. SHERLOCK: There has been different reactions in different areas. Again, the
British are just moving out of the palace in Basra City back to the airfield.
It's not that they've pulled out of Basra. And so violence does ebb and flow in
different regions.
As I said earlier, you know, overall levels of violence have dropped. But that
doesn't mean there aren't hard neighborhoods and hard places in Iraq. As we make
changes on the battlefield, so does the enemy. And they -- if they see an
opportunity to move, they'll make an attempt to try to move into that area. And
we have to wait and see what happens as those forces reposition and the 10th
Iraqi Army now takes responsibility for that area.
Q What's the level of concern that the violence in the South is increasing as
the British pull in? And how are you going to respond to that?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, the British are still operating in that area. I mean, it's
not as though they have relinquished responsibility for Basra City. They're
still working with the 10th Iraqi Army Division; they're still working with the
security forces throughout the province and throughout MND-Southeast. So they
haven't ceded ground. And again we have to take a look at what occurs as we
transfer that responsibility to the Iraqi security forces.
Q Something else: Could I understand you correctly that there are now 168,000
U.S. troops in Iraq?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Yes, but that's a function of the changeover of a number of
brigades. As you start to have brigades prepare to leave, the unit that comes in
to replace them has to go into the same battlespace they occupy. They have to go
through an orientation period and they have to go through a train-up in the
battlespace that they'll occupy before the previous brigade can leave. And so,
temporarily -- and as we said a couple of weeks ago, as General Ham mentioned --
what you'll have is you'll have a temporary increase to about 172,000 at its
peak, and then that will come back down to about 160(,000), 162,000 as that
turnover finishes.
Q And how long will that take?
GEN. SHERLOCK: That should last sometime till around the November-December
timeframe as different brigades turn over.
Q It will be as high as 170,000?
GEN. SHERLOCK: For a very short period of time, until the brigade that's coming
in to replace a brigade in that area leaves, and then that will drop back down.
Yes?
Q Sir, can you shed any light on the Thursday B-52 flight that we've been
talking about, with the munitions that were carried between North Dakota and
Louisiana, and tell us if -- what the initial indications from the investigation
have shown about how his occurred?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, safety and security are paramount in any activity involving
munitions. There are designed-in safety features as well as specific handling
measures and transportation measures, all of which serve to minimize risk,
especially to the general public. The Air Force maintains very high standards of
safety and precision, and so any deviation from those standards is taken very
seriously.
There was an error which occurred during a regularly scheduled transfer of
weapons between two bases, and the commander of Air Combat Command has directed
an investigation to review operational procedures connected with that. Again, at
no time was there a threat to public safety, and it's important to note that no
munitions were ever outside of Air Force control and custody. And the error was
discovered by an airman who was conducting internal Air Force checks. And again,
that investigation is ongoing, and so I'd like to let that investigation run its
course. I believe it's scheduled to be complete by the 14th of September, but no
effort is going to be spared to make sure that that investigation is conducted
thoroughly and completely.
Q Well, do you know if the pilot thought he was just flying with missiles
without the warheads?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I don't know what the pilot thought.
Yes, Charlie?
Q Could I go back to Basra for a second? Looking at the disposition of that
city, where a good portion of it is controlled by various militias, are you --
or not you specifically, but is the military looking at that city as a snapshot
of what Baghdad or greater Iraq could be in the future if the U.S. does pull
out? And if that's the case, is it also being studied or being put into General
Petraeus's recommendations at all of what could be happening?
GEN. SHERLOCK: What specifically goes into General Petraeus's assessment or
recommendations, I'm not aware. I don't know.
But what I will say is that this is something that I think should happen. I
mean, this is something that, as we get ready to have the Iraqi security forces
take responsibility for different provinces in different areas, and as areas
start to transfer to provincial Iraqi control, we should be able to turn over
responsibility for both forward operating bases and areas to Iraqi security
forces. That's what's going on now in Basra.
Again, if the situation changes, the battlefield geometry will change, and the
Corps and Multinational Force Iraq will make adjustments to that. That's
something that's constantly reviewed and constantly adjusted by Multinational
Corps and Multinational Force Iraq.
Yes.
Q General, originally Defense Secretary Gates said the surge did not have
funding past September 30th. Recently General Ham said that planners had planned
to maintain that level of 20 brigade combat teams unless political decisions are
made otherwise. What funding is available to extend the surge to April, if
necessary?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I am not aware of the funding issues. What I think General Ham
said and what I've said before is that the U.S. military will meet whatever
requirements are laid on it by the secretary of Defense and the president, and
that whatever decisions are made as a result of Ambassador Crocker and General
Petraeus's report will then be taken into account. We'll make some decisions and
recommendations about what has to happen in order to sustain or not sustain or
adjust forces. And so we need to really wait until Ambassador Crocker and
General Petraeus make those recommendations next week before we can discuss
that.
Q But is it safe to say there is funding available, should they decide that --
and should the president ultimately decide to extend the surge until spring?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I think those are policy issues and those are issues of funding
with regard to OSD and Congress, and I'd rather let them answer those questions.
Yes.
Q Sir, is there a concern about these Russian bombers that have entered British
airspace or neared British airspace in the last 24 hours? There were eight of
them, and this is the third incident in the last month. Is there concern on your
part? Some bombers have also approached U.S. airspace in the last couple months.
GEN. SHERLOCK: There have been some instances of Russian bombers approaching
U.S. airspace.
As I've said before, different militaries around the world conduct different
training and different operations over the course of the year. We've seen the
Russians flying more in recent weeks than they have over several months or
several years previously. They've been very professional in the conduct of those
flights. They've followed international flight rules. They've respected our air
sovereignty levels and our intercepts, and we're not concerned.
Q A follow-up on that. What has been the increase since Putin made the
announcement probably a month ago now that he was going to start these long
range bomb-- (inaudible)?
GEN. SHERLOCK: There have been a number of flights. There have been some flights
against our air defense zones. There's been, as reported, some flights against
Great Britain and other countries. Again, these flights are a part of normal
military operations that different countries conduct, conduct different types of
operations. This is not something new. This is something that the former Soviet
Union did all the time. As Russia starts to conduct these flights again, the
important thing to note is, is that they've been very professional, they've
respected all of our air sovereignty levels, they've followed all of the
international flight rules, and that's not something that we're concerned about
right now.
Q So we've heard about a couple flights by Alaska and then the flight by Guam.
Have there been more than that? I mean, I think that there were two incidents in
Alaska that we know about and one in Guam.
GEN. SHERLOCK: There have been a few of those flights. As far as the specific
number of flights, I would have to get back to you. I don't have that right in
front of me.
Q You mentioned intercepts. Could you describe the intercepts, how many
aircraft, what sort of aircraft were they? Was there pilot-to-pilot contact, was
it just visual contact? Was there any warning given to the Russian bombers not
to violate U.S. airspace -- just what happened in these intercepts?
GEN. SHERLOCK: As far as the specific procedure for an intercept, I don't know.
I would have to get back to you on that. As far as the types of aircraft, I know
that there have been some F-15s and some F-18s that have been dispatched to fly
alongside the aircraft and conduct the intercept. As far as any pilot-to-pilot
contacts or any specific warnings, those are operational, and I don't want to go
into that.
Q And oftentimes, so as not to give a -- or not to be misinterpreted, friendly
nations will announce beforehand that they're going to be conducting some kind
of exercise. Have any of these Russian bomber flights -- has the U.S. been
informed in advance of any of these Russian bomber flights?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, the Russian president made a statement a little over a
month ago that they were going to start conducting these flights. They have
started conducting these flights. Again, they've been very professionally
conducted. They've respected all of our air defense zones. They've followed all
the international flight rules. And so really that's all I have on this subject.
I really don't have anything else to add.
Yes?
Q In Afghanistan earlier this year, there was a need for about 3,500 additional
trainers. Has that requirement now been met, and has a brigade been identified
to provide those trainers for the police in Afghanistan?
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, there are a variety of different requirements that the
joint staff and the COCOMs review. As they go through this specific requirement,
I don't have the data as far as whether this specific one has been met. I know
they work to try to fill those requirements. I'd have to get back to you on
specifics of that.
Yes, ma'am.
Q Yeah, if I could follow up on the bomber flights. You said they were
professionally conducted, and there was the one statement by Putin. Were there
follow-on statements shortly before a mission that you could tell us about or is
that -- it was one overall statement and the rest have been surprises to us?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I don't know that I'd characterize any of them as surprises to
us, but I really don't have anything else to add on this subject as far as
specific messages or specific statements.
Yes.
Q General, you mentioned overall levels of violence and sectarian violence with
regard to Iraq; what other statistical indicators are you looking at in order to
make an assessment in terms of progress?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I think that we ought to wait for Ambassador Crocker and General
Petraeus to present their assessments next week. I think they will bring in a
variety of different factors into that assessment. Rather than try to cover that
or make any comment on that in advance, let's wait till they make their
assessment, and then we can look at the different factors that went into that.
Yes.
Q General, I know it's only been a few days, but I wonder if MNF-I or the Iraqis
have taken any steps to solidify the contacts that were made during President
Bush's visit to -- in order to ensure that the local, provincial and national
level Iraqi leaders continue to communicate with each other.
GEN. SHERLOCK: Well, I think, as General Bergner said yesterday in his press
briefing, they were going to have a visit to Al Anbar province sometime this
week with Iraqi government officials. I think that all of our advisers and all
of our folks in MNF-I are working very hard to try to make sure that there's
progress along those fronts. Again, that's something that MNF-I is much better
positioned to answer than I am.
Yes.
Q There were reports this morning about an explosion in a Baghdad neighborhood
that left at least 14 Iraqi civilians dead. There were initial reports
suggesting that it was a U.S. bomb from a plane and also mortars being fired. Do
you have any more information about what exactly caused that incident?
GEN. SHERLOCK: No. I've seen open press reports on that, and there is still some
information I need to gather on that, and I'd have to get back with you on that.
Yes.
Q Several officials have praised the progress in Anbar province. Is there now a
timeframe of when the coalition expects to transfer it to provincial Iraqi
control?
GEN. SHERLOCK: I don't have that data in front of me. I know that different
factors go into a decision to try to progress to provincial Iraqi control. I
know that there has been, as I've said before, I think a truly transformational
event happening in Anbar and other provinces of Iraq, including what's beginning
in Diyala and different neighborhoods of Baghdad. The folks that are really best
positioned to answer that are MNF-I. I mean, they are the folks on the ground
that can make that kind of an assessment.
Q Okay.
Q Thank you.
Q Thank you.
GEN. SHERLOCK: Thank you all very much.
Q Thank you, General.

Welcome Home Some of Our Heroes
   Posted: 05 Sep 2007 08:08 PM CDT
The PA Army National Guard’s C Battery, 1/213 Air Defense Artillery, is coming
home to Spring City, PA after a long and hard year’s deployment in Iraq. The
officers at the Spring City Armory are very anxious that they receive a hero’s
welcome upon their return.
These tired but happy soldiers are now demobilizing at Fort Dix. This Friday,
Sept. 7, they will leave Ft. Dix in a convoy bound for the Armory at Spring
City.
The families, friends and members of the community will be waiting for these
troops. Folks will come out to the streets to cheer their hometown heroes, and
the families will be having a celebration on the Armory grounds as they await
the arrival of the convoy.
We are asking concerned Americans to support these returning troops by coming
out with flags, signs, but most of all, your sincere “welcome home” as they pull
in. The buses transporting the soldiers will be accompanied by a motorcycle
escort and police and fire department honors.
HOW TO FIND THE ARMORY FROM MAIN STREET IN SPRING CITY:
Go South on Main Street through Spring City as it climbs out of the river
valley. Main Street then becomes Bridge Street. Take Bridge Street a short
distance to PENNHURST ROAD. There is a big sign on the LEFT side that says
“SouthEast Veterans Administration,” and also a church on the same left side,
“Faith Bible Fellowship.” TURN RIGHT at that point ON PENNHURST ROAD. On
PENNHURST, TURN RIGHT ON DUNLAP. YOU WILL PASS THE VETERAN’S HOME (THERE ARE
SOME HIGH SPEED BUMPS HERE - TAKE CARE.) PAST THE HOME YOU WILL SEE THE ARMORY
UP AHEAD, FOLLOW THE SIGNS AROUND THE HUGE OLD BUILDING TO THE PARKING LOT.
This unit lost two members while deployed in Iraq. They deserve a hero’s
welcome! See you on Friday at the Spring City National Guard Armory!

Judge strikes down part of Patriot Act

   Friday, September 07, 2007 01:15:23 AM

A federal judge struck down a key part of the USA Patriot Act on Thursday in a
ruling that defended the need for judicial oversight of laws and bashed Congress
for passing a law that makes possible "far-reaching invasions of liberty."
U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero immediately stayed the effect of his
ruling, allowing the government time to appeal. Justice Department spokesman
Dean Boyd said: "We are reviewing the decision and considering our options at
this time."
The ruling handed the American Civil Liberties Union a major victory in its
challenge of the post-Sept. 11 law that gave broader investigative powers to law
enforcement.
The ACLU had challenged the law on behalf of an Internet service provider,
complaining that the law allowed the FBI to demand records without the kind of
court supervision required for other government searches. Under the law,
investigators can issue so-called national security letters to entities like
Internet service providers and phone companies and demand customers' phone and
Internet records.
In his ruling, Marrero said much more was at stake than questions about the
national security letters.
He said Congress, in the original USA Patriot Act and less so in a 2005
revision, had essentially tried to legislate how the judiciary must review
challenges to the law. If done to other bills, they ultimately could all "be
styled to make the validation of the law foolproof."
Noting that the courthouse where he resides is several blocks from the fallen
World Trade Center, the judge said the Constitution was designed so that the
dangers of any given moment could never justify discarding fundamental
individual liberties.
He said when "the judiciary lowers its guard on the Constitution, it opens the
door to far-reaching invasions of liberty."
Regarding the national security letters, he said, Congress crossed its
boundaries so dramatically that to let the law stand might turn an innocent
legislative step into "the legislative equivalent of breaking and entering, with
an ominous free pass to the hijacking of constitutional values."
He said the ruling does not mean the FBI must obtain the approval of a court
prior to ordering records be turned over, but rather must justify to a court the
need for secrecy if the orders will last longer than a reasonable and brief
period of time.
A March government report showed that the FBI issued about 8,500 national
security letter, or NSL, requests in 2000, the year prior to passage of the USA
Patriot Act. By 2003, the number of requests had risen to 39,000 and to 56,000
in 2004 before falling to 47,000 in 2005. The overwhelming majority of the
requests sought telephone billing records information, telephone or e-mail
subscriber information or electronic communication transactional records.
The judge said that through the NSLs, the government can unmask the identity
of Internet users engaged in anonymous speech in online discussions, can obtain
an itemized list of all e-mails sent and received by someone and can then seek
information on those communicating with the individual.
"It may even be able to discover the web sites an individual has visited and
queries submitted to search engines," the judge said.
Marrero's lengthy judicial opinion, akin to an eighth-grade civics lesson,
described why the framers of the Constitution created three separate but equal
branches of government and delegated to the judiciary to say what the law is and
to protect the Constitution and the rights it gives citizens.
Marrero said the constitutional barriers against governmental abuse "may
eventually collapse, with consequential diminution of the judiciary's function,
and hence potential dire effects to individual freedoms."
In that event, he said, the judiciary could become "a mere mouthpiece of the
legislature."
Marrero had ruled in 2004, on the initial version of the Patriot Act, that the
letters violate the Constitution because they amounted to unreasonable search
and seizure. He found free-speech violations in the nondisclosure requirement,
which for example, disallowed an Internet service provider from telling
customers their records were being turned over to the government.
After he ruled, Congress revised the Patriot Act in 2005, and the 2nd U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals directed that Marrero review the law's
constitutionality a second time.

War Widow Castigates NBC

Friday, September 7, 2007 9:02 AM

Travis Youngblood was a Marine on patrol in Iraq when an improvised explosive
device went off in 2005 and burned his lungs, killing him. Now his widow Laura
says CNBC and MSNBC are denying her the same First Amendment rights he died to
protect.

“Who are they to judge what the American public wants to hear?” Youngblood says.
“I don’t understand why they are discriminating against veterans. These are the
roots of America. The people who serve are protecting their First Amendment
rights.”

Laura Youngblood is featured in ads being run by Freedom’s Watch, a new
conservative group that has more funding than MoveOn.org and other George Soros
operations.

The group is spending $15 million over five weeks to run ads saying that pulling
out of Iraq quickly is not an option.

While Fox and CNN have been running the ads, Ari Fleischer, a board member of
Freedom’s Watch, reported that NBC’s two cable outlets refused to run them. NBC
told Fleischer that it is network policy to deny access to groups that sponsor
advertising on “controversial issues.”

Brad Blakeman, a former Bush White House aide who is president and CEO of
Freedom’s Watch, wrote a letter to the network protesting the decision and
citing other controversial ads run by the NBC cable networks. One ad, sponsored
by Move America Forward, was titled “Shameless Politicians.” It advocated
support for the war on terror. Another, sponsored by the American Medical
Association, focused on controversial health care issues.

Besides Laura Youngblood, the Freedom’s Watch ads—which can be viewed at
FreedomsWatch.org — feature soldiers who have fought in Iraq. In addition to
losing her husband in the war, Youngblood had an uncle who was a fireman and
lost his life responding to the 9/11 attack.

Youngblood, also a Marine, recalls that her husband wrote to her just before he
died and said how proud he was to serve in Iraq.

“Maybe if people hear our story, maybe then they’ll realize that my husband was
willing to sacrifice his life knowing that he will never see his unborn child or
his family again that he loved, but was willing to do that to protect his
country,” Youngblood says. “Maybe if they see it from his point of view, as
someone who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, then maybe they can
understand that it’s not time to give up. It’s time to stand up and fight for
this country. It’s time to put a stand down and say we are not running from
terrorism.”

If the U.S. quits in Iraq, it will send a message to terrorists that we are
vulnerable, Youngblood says.

“Al Qaida’s in Iraq now,” she says. “If we don’t protect ourselves from the
terrorists, they will attack us again. This is America. We stand up and we
protect ourselves. We do not run. We face fear in the face. We fight it. This is
a strong country with honorable men and women who are willing to sacrifice their
lives for the safety of fellow Americans.”

When her husband decided to go to Iraq, Laura was pregnant with their second
child.

“He wanted to go to Iraq because—he sat me down and told me—that he wanted to
take care of his children,” she says. “He would fight this war so his children
could be safe. He went to protect us.”

On left-wing blogs, Laura Youngblood and others like Vicki Strong who appear in
the ads are being attacked. One entry said Laura Youngblood is “completely
incapable of telling the truth” and is “devoid of a soul.” Another entry made
fun of her for having a seven-year-old son who appears to be overweight.

A third entry said Vicki Strong’s son Jesse, a Marine who was killed in Iraq, is
“spinning in his grave” because there was no connection between the Iraq war and
9/11.

As Fran Townsend, the White House's chief of counterterrorism, has told me, a
quick withdrawal from Iraq could lead to devastating casualties within the U.S.
from al-Qaida attacks.

“What you don’t hear is the same people [who want a quick withdrawal] talk about
the consequences of bringing them home,” Townsend said. “The consequences could
very well be dead Americans inside the United States if Iraq becomes a safe
haven.”

Says Youngblood, “It’s going to take time to win. These people took their time
when they attacked us. They thought about the process of attacking America for
years. We’re going to face them, and we’re going to win.”

some random observations

this is the same media that's ready to anoint hitlery as the next president-
"she's really a centrist!"
do you believe that?

"you don't need to be able to defend yourself against car jackings
or home invasions! just call the police!".
or is the real reason that Janet Reno, in her second tour as
AG, can kill with impunity?

there's a train wreck building over entitlements- the irag
campaign is running at 2-3% of the national budget, whereas
the giveaways, ie buying votes, add up to 40%+ and its going to
get bigger fast.
ever since Presindent Johnson saw social security as the way
to buy up the middle clas with their own money, less 60% to
cover the administrative and distribution costs of all the
no show govt jobs that would be created....

al-Qaeda has been at war with us since 1979, and if we leave
irag they will magically disappear (like lucky charms no doubt)

are you willing to let them decide what you should see?
if so, why? i want to understand.

   From:"James Dull" <jbdull@...>

READ ON........AND......GET SOME TRUE FACTS RE
THE ILLUSTRIOUS FLIP FLOP CANDIDATE SOME
PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY CONSIDERING FOR THE
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATE!!!!!
IF YOU DON'T THINK THIS COUNTRY HAS SOME REAL
PROBLEMS FACING IT, THEN JUST DELETE THIS ARTICLE!!!
Subject: DICK MORRIS' ANALYSIS OF BILL CLINTON'S BIO ABOUT HILLARY
BILL CLINTON LEAVES TRUTH OUT OF HILLARY'S BIOGRAPHY
  Go to www.hillaryclinton.com<http://www.hillaryclinton.com/> and check
out
Bill Clinton's syrupy, five- minute ad for Hillary. He introduces the
commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know
about Hillary's background. His version of her biography is about as
reliable as if it appeared in Pravda!
    So, I wanted to make a few corre ctions;
Bill says: Hillary never wanted to run for public office, but she did
want to work at public service.
The facts are: When Clinton was considering not running for another
term as Governor of Arkansas in 1990, Hillary said she would run if he
didn't. She and Bill even had me take two surveys to assess her chances of
winning.
The conclusion was that she couldn't win because people would just see
her as a seat warmer for when Bill came back, licking his wounds after
losing for president. So she didn't run. Bill did and won. But there is no
question, she had her eye on public office, as opposed to service,
long ago.
Bill says: In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the
poor.
The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular a ctivity in law school
was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and
killing a federal agent. She went to court every day as part of a law
student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and
  develop grounds for appeal.
Bill says: Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a
children's rights project for poor kids.
The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the
California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the
Panthers, and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with
him.
Bill says: Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she
turned down all the lucrative job offers.
The facts are: She flunked the D.C. bar exam and only passed the
Arkansas &nb sp;bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas, and only got hired by
the
University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was
already teaching there. She only joined the prestigious Rose Law Firm after
Bill became Attorney General, and made partner only after he was elected
  governor.
Bill says: President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services
Board of Directors, and she became its chairman.
The facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's support for
Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary became
chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be
chairman.
Bill says: She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's
Hospital.
The facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activi ty, not
mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Walmart board of directors, for a
substantial
fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices.
Bill says: Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all
Americans in 1994, but she kept working at it, and helped to create the
Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), that provides five million children
with health insurance.
The facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was
included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority
Leader Senator Trent Lott. I helped to negotiate the deal. The money came
half from the budget deal and half from the Attorney Generals' tobacco
settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds.
Bill says: H illary was the face of America all over the world
The facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of
town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was
running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and
symbolic, and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them
Bill says: Hillary was an excellent Senator, who kept fighting for
  children's and women's issues.
The facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation, like
changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four
substantive pieces of legislation: One set up a national park in
Puerto Rico. A second provided respite care for family members helping their
relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were
routine bills to aid 9-11 victims and responders, which were sponsored by the
entire NY delegation.
Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary
Clinton: She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our
country
when it comes to the war on terror.
    1. She wants to close GITMO & move the combatants to the U. S. A.,
where they would have access to our legal system.
  2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qeada phone
calls to/from the U. S. A..
  3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants
captured on the battlefield.
  4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money transfers between
suspected Al Qeada cells & supporters In the U. S. A..
  5. She wants to eliminate th e type of interrogation tactics used by
the military & CIA where coercion might be used when questioning known
terrorists, even though such tactics might save American lives.
I can't think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single
comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on
Terror. But I can think of a lot of comments she has made that weakens our
country & makes it a more dangerous situation for all of us. She goes
hand-in-hand with the ACLU on far too many issues where common sense is
abandoned.
She is a disaster for all
Americans!!!

American Made Goods = Quality

   by Felicia Benamon
American Made Goods = Quality
September 07, 2007 01:42 PM EST

I find myself looking at many of the products I buy to see where they were
made. It's hard to find goods that are Made in America. But now, more than ever,
it's imperative that we start buying goods that we KNOW will exemplify quality.
Goods that are made RIGHT HERE in the good 'ol U.S. of A. It's one way to show
support of our nation.

Where once we dominated in manufacturing goods of all kinds, other countries
have stepped in and produced only sub par quality products. Tainted products are
coming out of China, and considering the major recalls by Mattel and the fact
that dangerous toothpaste and pet food has made its way to America's shores from
China, it's time to get a grip and take a close look at our shopping habits.

Why would companies want to take away American jobs and ship them to China and
elsewhere? Is there no pride left in the American worker...no pride in America's
ability to churn out quality every time?

Sadly, it's all for the money of course. Companies will save a pretty penny if
they employed cheap labor. But at the cost of what? We have to look at our trade
practices as well. Americans are put at risk over tainted seafood and toothpaste
and shoddy quality from cheap labor is tainting the honor of American companies.

But I think the honor of American companies was shot when these companies made
the decision to let foreigners do the job Americans could surely do.

In the name of "globalization" and greed, Americans have been sold out. It seems
that for some companies, the ingenuity and creativity of the American citizen
doesn't account for anything anymore. It's all about the money.

Considering the massive amounts of recalls affecting goods coming from China,
the question remains...
are we as a country going to continue to trade with China on such a level as
we are now until every area of the consumer market is affected by tainted
products? And at some point, we need to be wiser consumers.

I would hope American companies who allow these products to affect the honor of
their good name would be mindful of their fellow Americans and remember who it
was in the past that made their companies great. The American worker puts love
and hard work into producing goods. The lasting image of a company should be one
that shows they exemplify quality...emphasis should NOT be placed on cheapness
of goods.

Founders of some well-known established American companies would be alarmed if
they knew what was happening today. Because of what is happening, I wonder how
long we are going to last as a world power. We continue to let shoddy
workmanship represent us and allow trade from countries who send us tainted
products.

People have GOT to look carefully at the packaging labels on products and make a
decision whether they want to buy quality or crap. If it's Made in China...well,
fill in the blank. You know what I'm going to say based on what is going on
currently.

Simply put, goods made in the past and present by the American people have
always stood the quality test. Outsourcing our jobs to other countries does us
no good.

The power IS in the hands of the American public. Simply TRY to set your sights
on buying goods made right here in America. Support your local mom and pop
stores. You KNOW then, you are getting a quality product.

To the American companies who are allowing cheaper labor to do their
work....consider relocating jobs back to America and regain some pride. Your
fellow Americans are suffering for it.

What choice will we make? It's all in your hands America.

Aviator's fate puzzles search crews

   Saturday, September 08, 2007 04:44:26 AM

In their quest to find missing aviator Steve Fossett, searchers have come across
uncharted plane crashes six times. But none of the wrecks shed light on what may
have happened to the multimillionaire.
Hopes that a wrecked plane spotted on the side of a hill might be Fossett's
were dashed quickly Friday when ground crews learned the plane last was
registered more than three decades ago.
As the search for Fossett stretched into its fifth full day Saturday, weary
rescuers were no closer to understanding where he was flying or where his small
plane might have gone down.
Searchers tried to glean any positive news they could from the old crashes
they discovered from an otherwise discouraging week.
"This does give us hope. We are finding a lot of stuff we didn't know was
there," Civil Air Patrol Maj. Cynthia Ryan said.
Ryan said authorities had received hundreds of tips from the public since
Fossett was reported missing Monday after taking off from a private airstrip
owned by hotel mogul Barron Hilton 80 miles southeast of Reno.
Authorities were concentrating on four leads they considered credible that
came from people who live in, or were visiting, a large area near the
Nevada-California border where Fossett was believed to be flying.
Still, it's not much to go on for rescuers trying to search an area the size
of Massachusetts that is crisscrossed with jagged mountain ranges, gullies and
steep canyons.
"It's like you took a 500-piece puzzle and threw four pieces randomly out on
the floor and tried to make sense of them," Ryan said. "It's a little hard to
do."
The lack of any solid news about the 63-year-old aviator's fate is weighing
heavily on his family, said Lyon County Undersheriff Joe Sanford.
He said he spoke Friday with Fossett's wife, Marilyn, and said she and other
family members remained optimistic.
"Everyone here is hopeful. But I've got to tell you that the family is subdued
and they're having a tough time with this," Sanford told reporters. "We're into
numerous days. No one knows what happened or where he is."
Adding to the grim prospects was the revelation Friday that Fossett most
likely had only one water bottle with him when he took off for what was expected
to be a short flight in a single-engine plane. Authorities initially thought he
had enough water to last two weeks.
Fossett was believed to have been scouting dry lake beds as possible locations
for his latest thrill ride, an upcoming attempt to break the land speed record
in a rocket-propelled car. He was reported missing by someone at the ranch at
1:43 p.m. Monday after he failed to return on schedule.
He did not file a flight plan, which is common for pilots of small planes
heading out for quick flights.
Fossett, a former commodities trader who was the first to circle the globe
solo in a balloon, is considered an expert pilot and survivalist.
About two dozen aircraft, including airplanes, helicopters and a C-130 cargo
plane, flew grid patterns over the search area on Friday. Most were scheduled to
return to the air Saturday morning.
Ryan said crews have a "pretty good handle" on at least half the search area.
Despite the absence of clues, searchers remain hopeful, knowing that Fossett
has a history of getting out of tough jams. He has held 116 speed or distance
records on land, air and water.

=============================================================================

WE'VE HEARD THEM ALL ........

Each and everyone of the (2008) presidential candidates, on both sides of
the issue, have given us all, their "song and dance" routine about how they
want to "repair" the damage that the Village Idiot from Crawford Texas has
inflicted upon the Sheeple of Amerika.

And yet, how can they, when they themselves do not comprehend the problem?

Maybe I'm reaching here, but please bear with me for a moment.

Way back when, We had this bonified bumpkin from the backwoods of Arkansas
who claimed he never had much of anything throughout his younger life, yet
here we read almost daily how he so vastly enriched himself, and his ...
Battleaxe, the "Terror of Chappaqua", to the point of counting their "loose
change"
in the MILLIONS. What makes him (and his beastly wife "Brun-HILL-da") the
ultimate hypocrite is that notorious haircut aboard Air FARCE One, holding
up airport traffic, to the tune of millions!

And then there's that "People's Attorney" from the Carolinas bragging about
his $400 haircuts .... and then there's them thousand-dollar handmade suits
all of our "People's choice" candidates are wearing .... well .....

I would hope you get the picture. And, if not, welcome to the "new"
Amerika, where the HAVES have it all, and the rest of us get the crumbs! (You
might
want to consider reading about the "Rich Man", in St Luke 15 ... and
compare!)

Now .... let's look at the other end of the spectrum ......
... to be exact, the young kids who are fighting the BILLIONAIRE'S WARS in
Afghanistan and Iraq.

Lets take (fer an example!) ..... "Private Joe Ditwad, USMC", from
Po'dunk, east of Hooten' Holler.

Poor young Joe, who's cute little wife, Becky Sue, is pregnant with her
first child, and poor Joe just got laid off at the plant, 'cuz of some
Billionaire buddy of the Crawford Village Idiot, had an idea to save money ...
by
moving his plant to Bhamfuk, India, because he found out he could hire three
times
the "slaves" .... er ... workers, for the same amount of money he pays Joe,
and Bubba-Ray, and Billy-Bob, and all the other numbnuts in the back country
of Amerika. Since the job does not require an education, "trained monkeys"
can do the job, and where better to find such, than .... India?

So Joe, Bubba-Ray and the guys head for the local unemployment office, who
has just turned down Joe's request for unemployment. He and his buddies are
talking, and Joe decides .... I jes' gotta do sum'tin, or how's Becky-Sue
gonna make it, especially with the twins a'comin in the fall?

To add to his dilemma, his buddies, Bubba-Ray and Billy-Bob, and kid sister,
Katie, don't have money for beer, or to repair the four-wheelers .... or buy
bait. What they gonna do?

So Joe heads into the "big city" (pop 3000), and gets conned by some Gunny
Sergeant in a slick uniform, to join up and serve his country. He's given
the same ol' well-seasoned lies: In the Corps, he can be "guaranteed" a job,
"three hots and a cot", free medical (right!), and the "Gunny" even promised
that he'd personally guarantee that him and Bubba-Ray will be stationed
together at the "beach" for the whole three years they sign up for! Of course,
he
didn't say WHAT beach ....

Eight months later, following their training and other nonsense. Joe and
Bubba-Ray find themselves at the "beach" ... plenty of sand ... but no water,
in
a town that almost looks as bad as Po'dunk ... except there, everyone has
rags on their heads and they are shooting at them! And instead of having his
trusty ol' Winchester to hunt with, they gave him this plastic toy, that jams
up in the sandy air. Oh well ....

BUT WAIT .... BACK HOME ........

Becky Sue, and the twins are living on a whopping big military paycheck
..... about 800 bucks, which is gone, usually somewhere between the second and
third week of their month .... when all she needs is just ONE DOLLAR to keep
the "gum'mit" from turning off the electricity. She already owes the landlord
a few months back rent on the mobile home, and the milk in the fridge is
spoiling.

Where am I going with this silly little story? Let me tell you about .....

The VALUE of just .... ONE DOLLAR!

You see, the drug addled, feeble-minded Grinning Chimp in the White House,
our Commander-And-Thief, certainly does not comprehend the problems he has
created for the young soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines like Joe, and
millions, who have been forced to hock everything of value that they own, just
to
make ends meet. Or, many who have lost their homes, their cars, their lives,
because of the burden this fool has been laid at the feet of these young
kids, who have no idea why they are doing what they are doing!

Like "Bubba the Cigar", before him, and of course, his daddy "Popi the
Don", and so on, each of the men who have stolen their place in history as
"Commander" ... was born with a golden spoon in their mouths, never lacking,
nor
ever being force to earn a living, like poor Joe, or his lovely bride Becky.

To make things worse, each and everyone of those who are getting in the
Pecking line to decide who wears the Crown next, also falls into this category
..... NONE of them comprehend the value of just a single ONE DOLLAR bill, that
would make the difference in whether the Twin's milk sours, or not.

We have at present, about nine wannabes all of whom are easily ...
millionaires, who have been playing the political games in Washington for
years. All
of them claim they "feel our pain", but the reality is obvious! They do not
even comprehend the problem.

Whether its Frau Brunhillda, or Edwards, Dodd, Obama, Kuchinch, or any other
"Demon-crap", they do not understand what Private Joe and Becky-Sue are
facing, in back-country Amerika., On the other side of the coin, we have the
"Re'Pug'lians" like Guilliani, Huckabee, McCain, Hunter, Thompson, Romney,
Tancredo, ....... et al., MILLIONAIRES all .... none of whom have ever
counted pennies, to balance a grocery bill.

Add to that, another 535 corrupt Congress-Critters, all of whom have
enchained their standing, through the offices they hold .... were RICH before
they
ever ran for office!

When in need, to forward their PORK-barrel projects, they will steal from
the Veterans, the active military personnel, and the disabled, and their
families, in order to ensure their "Gravytrain" back home, come re-election
time!
They would just as soon take the Twins milk away, rather than let it spoil!

Every single one of the presidential candidates, are millionaires, who have
never been placed in a position where their lives have been changed, over the
value of a single ONE DOLLAR bill. And until we find someone who truly
understands the value of that single DOLLAR bill, and who truly understands
what
those young men and women in the war zones (and their families at home) are
dealing with, Amerika will continue to decline.

The time will come they will one day turn their backs on them!

The reality is, Amerika is at that point in time, where France was, just
about the time we had our (first) Revolution. While the Bushes are telling us
...."let them eat cake", Amerika is on the verge of a new revolution, and
those jaded politicians facing it all, haven't got a clue .....

Amerika is about to explode, from within ... all thanks to a fool, who was
allowed to act like a spoiled brat, because he wanted to play "war", and a
corrupt Conned-Gress that enabled him in his fantasies!

WHO'S GONNA PICK UP THE MESS ...... and who's gonna rediscover the VALUE OF
A ONE DOLLAR BILL?

Unless ONE of those so-called presidential wannabes wakes up .... Amerika
doesn't have the proverbial "snowball's chance in Hades".

Every good story needs an ....
EPILOGUE .....

Marine Private Joe Ditwad wasn't one of the lucky ones .... he stepped on a
land-mine, and lost a leg, and was sent home, because the Corps decided he
has a "personality deficiency" that existed before his military service.

Because of the new manner in which the DoD and the VA handles "used, abused
and refused" troopers, after they'd given their all, he gets a nice little
"separation check" of about a grand, but then, since he lost some of his
equipment, he has to pay for it, and has to pay for his medical care, live in a
military medical sewer, and pay for this, and for that ....

Well now, he OWES Uncle Sam .... that ONE DOLLAR bill, that makes all the
difference in his world. Dumped with no future, no hope and no money to buy
even milk for his twins.

The King Jorge the Booo$hian Legacy

Ever wonder if Becky Sue, and the twins can ever help Joe "repatriate" to
his home in Po'dunk, or will he be forced to find whatever
accommodations he can find .... on the filthy streets of some big city
..... where
he can just ...."disappear" ... in shame ???

You'd be surprised, Mister Multi-Millionaire Presidential Candidate! But
then again, you'd never comprehend the truth .... just like the past half
dozen Commanders-And-Thieves!

JPFO ALERT: NRA Director Says Five Rounds is Enough

That JPFO and the NRA have different views on "gun control"
is no secret; you can read our position -- and view
supporting evidence -- at
http://www.jpfo.org/alert20061211.htm You can also read
an article on the NRA's recent alignment with gun-
prohibitionist Carolyn McCarthy at
http://www.jpfo.org/smith-nra.htm .

And now, NRA Director Joaquin Jackson has publically stated
that magazine capacities should be limited to five rounds
and that "assault weapons [sic] should be limited to military
or police." That's right -- a director of the supposedly
pro-gun NRA wants to take YOUR semi-automatic rifles away.

Don't believe us? Think it's just a rumor? View the evidence
for yourself at
http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalks/archives/movies/jackson5_44kmov
(we also have it mirrored on the JPFO site at
http://www.jpfo.org/joaquin.mov ).

Already the NRA apologists are coming out of the woodwork.
Anyone who points out the hypocrisy of Jackson's position are
denounced as "wackos", "black helicopter paranoids," and "just
trying to make a buck."

It's time to "Humiliate and Repudiate" Joaquin Jackson and
the NRA. Go to http://www.jpfo.org/handbill-joaquin.jpg to
see our latest handbill. Print it out and distribute it to
those who still believe the NRA is working in the interest
of gun owners. They are not.

If you value the truth more than betrayal and want an

THANKS FOR YOUR CRITICISM .....

Could it be that I see things differently? Probably. I belong to a dying
generation; I am VIETNAM veteran, age 60's, who grew up in the America of
the 50's and 60's, when the American way of life was totally different ....
where Integrity, where Honesty, where Loyalty, and where Shame had meaning
... unfortunately, these traits no longer mean anything, especially to the
Liars and Thieves running our government.

I have grandchildren that I worry about! What will they have to face, in
the coming years? Certainly, none of them will ever understand or comprehend
the lifestyles that their Grandma and I enjoyed .... and worse, most will
likely taste the fascism and totalitarian state, that the grandparents of the
(former) USSR hold in their memories!

I have many friends in Germany who lived through that nightmare, during the
Hitler years, and most have told me that they see the very same thing here,
growing into a humongous cyst, that will one day soon, explode. In reality,
Hitler really did win WW2 .. by proxy, through GWB and his "crime syndicate".

Mental health? (Snicker snicker) .... ever tried out any of that
"wonderful" Vietnam COMBAT malady ... called PTSD? Its a bitch, reliving
your
nightmares, as you watch them coming into view all over again! Just think of
those kids coming home from war NOW ..... how will they cope?

Seriously reconsider re-reading my little missive ... and read between the
lines. You're likely to learn one hell of a lesson ... the reality of what
that DOLLAR really stands for .... in both the right hands, and the wrong
hands!

Thanks ... and May God Bless you ...

You know, most or all of this stuff is refuted at snopes.com.

Why do people insist on using the internet to promote falshoods?
If you don't have any REAL issues based on REAL facts, please don't
waste bandwidth on the group.

All of these statements are repeated on 100s of other blogs, but no
one can find the primary source for ANY of them. But I can prove
several of them to be falsehoods, calling the rest into question
unless you can find a primary source:

RE: CHIP
"Four years after the Universal Health Care proposal failed, Hillary
Clinton helped pass the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-
CHIP.) She helped negotiate the bill with Congress and later was the
point person working to ensure that parents across the country knew
about the program and signed up their children." [White House Press

> 2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qeada
phone calls to/from the U. S. A..

Not true, she simply supports bringing back FISA court review of
spying on American citizens. What she supports (the old law)
permits for spying on foreigners without restriction and even spying
on a U.S. citizen can occur without initial court review (e.g.,
emergency) as long as a FISA court reviews the wiretap later. I'm
sure the Founding Fathers would be on HER side, not yours.

> 3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants
  captured on the battlefield.

Um.. can you cite proof for this one?

> 4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money transfers
between suspected Al Qeada cells & supporters In the U. S. A..

And this one?

> 5. She wants to eliminate th e type of interrogation tactics

So does John McCain, a well-respected veteran. Do you think he's
dangerous, too?

Bin Laden? Al-Qaeda? Just Murderous Scum

   by Michael John McCrae
Bin Laden? Al-Qaeda? Just Murderous Scum
September 09, 2007 01:00 PM EST

After reading from the “msnbc.msn” website, a “washingtonpost.com” report by
Craig Whitlock, entitled “Bin Laden tape reveals a reinvigorated al-Qaeda”, I am
now even more concerned for the world in general and the United States in
particular.
Bin Laden is still alive and making threats. His threats are not idle or just
the boasts of a beleaguered soul stuck in a cave in a far off land. According to
Mr. Whitlock’s article the threat is very real and becoming more real each day
that passes.
One can see the admiration for this group of murderous thugs and Islamic
fundamentalists in the report by Mr. Whitlock. His distain for American efforts
to bring Bin Laden to justice is very apparent too.
The mainstream media welcomes the words of Bin Laden and his associates
because these words express the feelings of liberals the world over. The fact
that America chose to finally fight against the terrorism of the Taliban,
al-Qaeda and others who hold the Islamic view that all non-Islamic people
deserve terror and death has been a sticking point with liberals since the day
the shock from 9/11 wore off. Now, that was actually the same day. Liberals
began talking about the seven-minute Bush-hesitation and haven’t let up on the
anti-Bush rhetoric from that moment.
The United States’ President is considered the bad guy here. Americans are to
mind their manners and take such punishment as they did on 9/11 without whimper
or woe. Bin Laden is a hero to his people and just a poor schlep being picked on
by a world’s superpower. The United States didn’t have to go to all the expense
of the past 5 years in defending its borders against Islamic murderers.
With Bin Laden reminding Americans that Bush hasn’t been doing anything about
global warming or the battle against terrorism in Iraq, the media excitedly
quotes the Islamic pretender with awe at his intelligence and insight. Bin
Laden’s latest comments are no more than Democratic talking points wrapped up in
a Mohammedan package of dyed beard and soulless asininities.
Osama Bin Laden, Mahmoud Amadinejad, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega
and Kim Jung Il all know what media buttons to push. If you want face time on
American mainstream media you only need to bash President Bush and mention the
illegality of the American war effort against global jihad.
Active politicians like Dick Durbin, Charles Schumer, Harry Reid, Jack Murtha,
Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton have been
sharing the anti-Bush spotlight with the former Intern Lover In Chief and his
democratic predecessor, the former anti-Semitic appeaser of radical Islamic
jihadists; guiding the path to Sunday-talk-show success and CNN-Special glory.
The collective talking points of these liberal-left icons have acted a beacon
for the lunatic world leaders noted above.
The Whitlock report did not deal with the content of Bin Laden’s latest guest
appearance on American T.V. It was a report concerning the renewed strength and
audacity of al-Qaeda. It is that displayed boldness that should be a concern to
anyone caring for the safety of America.
It has been suggested that if America pack up and show yellow-backs to
al-Qaeda, they will declare victory and go home. That thought does not work out
in the historical context of Arab and Persian violence against the American
people!
Islamic fundamentalists have been destroying American lives through terrorism
for the past four decades. It wasn’t until 2001 that America finally determined
to straighten its backbone and declare war against Islamic terrorism.
Are there peaceful Islamists? Yes. The peaceful Islamists are alive and well
and living in countries where they are not blowing up innocent people and
creating general jihad. Many of the Islamists who deal in war, murder and the
other commands of their fundamentalist Imams and a modern interpretation of the
teachings of Mohammad are dead. They have been blown to hell by the homicide
explosives attached to their belts in their shortened searched for a
virgin-filled paradise.
It is good that so many choose to die. It is a shame that so many choose to
commit homicide against innocents while in the act of killing themselves. What
is good for one, who murders in the name of Mohammad, apparently isn’t good
enough for Osama Bin Laden.
I am encouraged though. New tapes, sightings and stories about the heralded
hero of Islam may swell his newly-black-bearded head enough to make him
vulnerable to discovery. If the over-six-foot-tall pile of Islamic excrement
ever develops a real set of manhood, perhaps he’ll do himself a favor and find
his way to the bosom of Mohammad.
   Does that seem harsh?
No. Not for such murdering scum.
