This got my attention, it made me realize how many times I'm asked for ID, I
never thought about it before. Now that I have, I can't for the life of me see
why you'd get upset.

I'm a legal American citizen and Imust show my IDwhen:
1. Pulled over by the police.
 2. Making purchases on my department store creditcard.
3. When I show up for a doctor's appointment.
4. When filling out a credit card or loan application.
5. When applying for orrenewing a driver's license orpassport.
 6. When applying for any kind of insurance.
 7. When filling out college applications.
8. When donating blood.
9. When obtaining certain prescription drugs.
 10. When making some debit purchases, especiallyif I'm out of state.
 11. When collecting a boarding pass for airline or train travel.

I'm sure there are more instances, but the point isthat we citizens of the
USAare required to prove whowe are nearly every day!
Why should people in this countryillegally, be exempt!!!!!
For that matter, perhaps the liberals can answer the question: Why shouldn't we
guard our borders as closely as every other country in the world does?
 GoARIZONA!!!

Only 68% will send this on... Should be a 100%! BET YOU'LL SEND IT!!!

I have recently come across an issue in Pennsylvania that directly affects
Veterans and retirees. I am recieving my pension for my 20 years of service in
the air force. After i retired of course I went and got a job. At the age of 53
I got laid off from that job. I applied for Unemployement and was denied because
i recieve a pension from the military. I have paid in the the UE system as well
as my employer yet because i served my country i am going to be deied benefits
that are rightfuly mine. I have contacted the state of Pennsylvania and my Rep
states its is based on Federal Law and they cant change it. I contact my
Senatopr and he sid it is a state problem. I have gone back and forth and
neither wants to take responsibility. I did find out that this affects everyone
who is retired. None of us will ever get UE as long as we get a pension. They do
this i supect to show less people applying for UE. BoyCott goods fromm PA and
let them know they are unfair . PASS THE WORD

The Law of the Garbage Truck, Well said

I hopped into a taxi to get to the airport. We were driving in the right lane
when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of the
cab. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by
just inches. The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started
yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, he was
sincerely friendly!
So I asked, "Why did you just do that? That guy almost destroyed your car and
could have sent us both to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me
what I now call "The Law of the Garbage Truck."
He explained that many people are just like garbage trucks. They run around full
of garbage: full of frustration, full of anger, full of disappointment. As their
garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. "Sometimes," he said, "they'll
dump it on you."
He warned me never to take it personally. "Just smile, wish them well, wave, and
move on. If you take their garbage with you," he told me, "you will spread it to
other people at work, at home, or on the streets." Wise people will never let
garbage trucks take over even one minute of their day. Life is too short to wake
up in the morning with regrets. Love the people who treat you right and pray for
the ones who don't.

The ink had not yet dried on my last column that discussed the fact that Barack
Obama was woefully unprepared for the presidency and as a result is making
deadly missteps in the execution of that role, when news broke of General
Stanley McChrystal in essence saying the exact same thing to Rolling Stone
magazine.  This isn't just a story to be brushed off.  This is a bombshell.
 
Don't be distracted by the media comically chastising the General for daring to
speak out against "The One" (yes, the same media that hailed military officers
who were willing to "speak truth to power" in criticizing George Bush).  That
isn't the story.
 
The true meaning of the McChrystal episode is titanic, because it is quite
apparent the General was sending a stern message directly to the American
people.
 
For more reasons than I can count, it is beyond obvious that McChrystal's public
criticism of Obama was not a lapse in judgment or a mistake.  It was
unquestionably intentional.  First, four-star generals have not achieved that
rank without knowing the chain of command and the expectation of subordination
to superiors.  Second, all of McChrystal's advisers were touting the same
message, demonstrating this was no fluke, nor an offhand comment taken out of
context.  Third, McChrystal spoke the inflammatory words to Rolling Stone, a
well known anti-war, anti-military magazine.  Fourth, reports are that
McChrystal actually saw the piece before it went to print and offered up no
objections to its content.
 
If all that is true, then it naturally begs the question: Why did he do it?
 
McChrystal is one of the lead authors of the "counterinsurgency" strategy that,
despite the nay saying of liberals like then-Senators Obama and Biden,
transformed Iraq from a quagmire into a success.  He knows the strategy
works.  But as its architect, he also knows this new military policy requires
two vital elements: lots of troops, and as much time as necessary for them to do
their job.
 
While other factors are important (cultural bonds, regional partnerships,
financial investment, troop morale, etc.), the two most crucial ingredients to
making counterinsurgency work (in Afghanistan or anywhere) is a massive amount
of troops on the ground to overwhelm the enemy and live among the people, and a
commitment to stay as long as necessary to break the will of the enemy.
 
This is precisely why counterinsurgency worked in Iraq.  Over the ignorant
objections of both Obama and Biden, then-President Bush listened to his military
commanders and ordered the troop surge.  And while being pummeled by the media
and Democrat political opportunists for not setting a hard deadline for
withdrawal, Bush committed to stay in Iraq until the job was finished.  The
result speaks for itself.
 
As the Afghan war began to deteriorate, Stanley McChrystal was put in charge to
implement that effective strategy there.  But he quickly found that Barack
Obama is no George W. Bush.  First, Obama – having championed himself as the
anti-war candidate – cut the number of troops McChrystal requested.  And
then, in what has to be one of the most foolish wartime moves in history, he
announced an arbitrary date for the beginning of American troop withdrawal.
 
This may please the ex-hippies in the anti-war crowd that Obama courted during
the 2008 campaign, but it has emboldened our enemy, imperiled our troops, and
created a giant mess of our counterinsurgency efforts in Afghanistan.
 
Having pressed his case privately with Obama's war team in Washington,
McChrystal certainly saw the handwriting on the wall, and as a final recourse,
pled his case to the American people.
 
Were his actions a breach of protocol?  Yes.  Did they rise to the level of
insubordination?  Probably.  Was Obama justified in removing him from
command?  I think so.  But after we're done hammering McChrystal for going
over the President's head, we better give some serious thought as to why he was
so willing to put his career on the line like that.
 
The reason is as clear as it is frightening: our political leadership in
Washington is clueless.  And their incompetence is costing us not only
resources and money, but most importantly the precious lives of brave American
soldiers.
 
General Stanley McChrystal was willing to lose his job to send that message to
the only people who can do something about it.  He was talking to you.

If the issue is a Federal one, then boycotting Pennsylvania is not the way to
go, as it would be beyond the lawmakers of Pennsylvania's ability to affect the
Federal law.  Pennsylvania's Congressmen and Representatives would be able to go
sponsor a bill for this purpose, as would any Congressmen and Represenatives
from any state.

I to, am a military retiree, and feel that the unemployment issue is unfair. 
Does anyone else have helpful information regarding this?

Here's an analysis developed by a friend...it probably will not get printed in
the newspapers...wonder why?










It seems like a miracle that our beloved leader was able to convince BP to
establish a $20 billion slush (oops, escrow) fund to compensate those hurt by
the ongoing oil plume in the Gulf of Mexico. After all, he had no constitutional
power to force them to do so; so had to resort to Chicago-style negotiating.


But, let us take a closer look at the effect on BP’s finances:


1.      BP will establish a $20 billion fund, but will pay only $7 billion
into it during 2010.


2.      BP is a British corporation, but has a very large operating entity
in the US.


3.      By Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), BP must book
the entire $20 billion expense in the year accrued. Therefore, they will book a
$20 billion expense in 2010, reducing their US tax liability by $7 billion.


4.      Our dear leader also convinced this massive corporation to show
their concern for the “small people” by withholding dividends to their
shareholders for the last 3 quarters of 2010. This reduces their outward cash
flow by about $7.5  billion, including approximately 40% of that amount to US
citizens. Assuming that the Bush tax cuts will survive through 2010, the US
Treasury will lose another $450 million in taxes on that amount. We won’t even
discuss the effect on the US economy.


Let us put the results into a table easily understood by the small people:


·       BP Cash Flow:


o       Escrow funding                   ($7 billion)


o       Dividend saving                   $7.5 billion


o       Tax savings                          
$7 billion


o       Net favorable cash flow :  $7.5 billion


·       US Treasury Tax Receipts:


o       BP Corporate income tax           ($7.5 billion)


o       BP Shareholders                        
($0.45 billion)


o       Net unfavorable tax receipts   ($7.95 billion)


I guess we really should expect this. After all, our dear leader is the most
inexperienced man in any room he walks into.

If You Went Through Ft. McClellan, Alabama...
... I want to hear from you.
Here's why. I am in the process of preparing a Veterans Administration claim
stemming from my service at the former chemical/biological warfare training site
fondly known as Fort Mac. I want to talk to others who served there. If you
don't know about the toxic secrets that might be lurking inside you, I'd like to
give you a heads up. If you do know about them, I want to hear your story.

If you are a Ft. McClellan vet who is a newbie to this issue, I have good news
and bad news.
The good: The Veterans Administration has granted us a presumptive exposure
status. This means we do not have to jump through hoops to prove that our
bizarre health conditions are genuine. Nor do we have to account for how we
acquired them at such a young age and with no apparent risk factors.
So even if you find yourself encountering human-guised hyenas who burst into
laughter while you are popping the nitroglycerin or are holed up in the e.r. yet
again, the VA understands that you cannot fake a heart attack or other
recognized conditions (such as, winding up with a four inch rod bolted to your
neck).
The bad news: We were exposed. Big time. The CBS program 60 Minutes once called
Fort Mac the most toxic place on the planet. It reportedly is the only chem/bio
facility in the Army where live substances were manufactured, stored, and used
in training. The McClellan Cocktail includes depleted Uranium, sarin gas,
mustard gas, and various other bacterial, nerve and chemical agents. And let's
not forget that old standby, Agent Orange.

This past weekend I talked to an old Army buddy who told me about her freakish
list of health problems. Many of them mirrored mine precisely; but I was the
first to tell her about toxic exposure at Ft. McClellan. I hope she joins me in
filing a claim. It is a drawn-out process. You have to produce more than just
the standard DD-214. I am in the process of filing my own claim. I already have
sent my notification, as required, to the Veterans Administration. My Veterans
Service Organization will pick up from there.

Meanwhile, if you or a loved one went through Ft. McClellan and you have endured
a series of wierd health issues that left your doctors scratching their heads...

It has been the better part of a year since I experienced a bad flash-back to
the days of my military service.
 
I had begun to think that maybe, finally, all those bad memories had been laid
to rest.
 
So, this Fourth of July, I attended the fireworks celebration with a friend –
I wore my Veterans hat as usual.  We got to the park several hours early and
got a great spot.  We enjoyed watching the people as they arrived.  Watching
little insights into their lives, talking between ourselves, enjoying our
picnic, and reading our books while we waited.
 
The families with children were particularly enjoyable for me to watch.  I
wonder, is it so with most Veterans, that they receive a special joy watching
families with children enjoying our freedoms?  Do they revisit that special
sense of having accomplished something very important with their service just by
watching a family with children going by them? 
 
I hope so, because it is one of the several positive things that remind me every
day why I served and why I carry the ghosts of that time in my mind.  I hope
that each Veteran who has served has found something like these small joys to
help appease their own ghosts – especially those who have served in combat.
 
I had thought that this Fourth I would be there just to enjoy fireworks,
friendship, a picnic, ect., but I forgot that the news folks would be there
also.  Not that that is bad, but I have noticed that as I grow gray, they seem
to want to talk to me more and more.
 
The news team walked up to us and asked if they could interview us – but it
was clear to both of us that they were asking could they interview me, the
Veteran.  The news-lady wanted to know what being there on the Fourth of July
meant to me.
 
So I told her that the Fourth of July, to me, was more than the celebration of
our nation’s birthday, it was a celebration of what all our Active Duty and
Veterans were and had sacrificed to preserve our nation, our Constitution, and
our freedoms.
 
As I talked, the flash-back grew, somehow I got through the interview – which
they used on the news-cast – without breaking down.  But I did so with far
past scenes of the horrors of war, the deaths, the gore, showing in a
transparent movie while I saw the reality just past the flash-back movie.
 
I did not see the news-cast – I was still at the fireworks when it showed. 
Several of my friends did see it and they tell me it was done very well.  I am
told that the news-cast started with a shot of my friend and myself, then my
face and hat as I began to tell my feelings, then went to a slow sweeping view
of the crowds as my voice continued to explain my view of the significance of
the Fourth of July.
 
I am told that the news-cast did me well and that I spoke well.  But I do not
actually remember what I said, because; as I reeled off my statements to the
news-crew, I was actually speaking to those I had witnessed die in war, whose
death scenes were flashing before my eyes in my own private movie show. 
 
I was trying to tell them that I was alive because of them, that we all
continued to enjoy the nation of the free and the brave because of their service
– that they had not died in vain, that we still fought to preserve what they
sacrificed their lives to defend.
 
I spent the next hour or so going through waves of flash-backs and intense
emotions.  Some of you may know what it is that I try to describe.  The
transparent movie plays along over the scene of reality in front of me.  For
me, when the waves of the flash-backs hit me, I shake under the loads of emotion
that are more than a system can handle, the tears stream down my face, and it is
all I can do to avoid breaking out in sobs of despair.
 
This was the first set of my flash-backs that my friend had ever witnessed, so;
in between the waves of attack, I tried to explain what it was that I was going
through.  When it was over, she asked what she could do to help me through
those times, and I answered, “Just what you did.  Hold my hand and let me
know that you understand, that you believe in me.  Tell me to hold on that it
will pass.” 
 
Because there are moments in the flash-back when it seems as if this is all
there will ever be – the flash-back and the intense waves of horrible emotion,
horrible memory.  I don’t want to end my life with only that horrible feeling
on my soul.
 
As bad as this time could have become, it did not.  The flash-backs passed, the
shaking stopped, the tears dried, and we both enjoyed an extremely good
fireworks display and were able to kick back and enjoy our time together as the
crowds and traffic cleared out before we left the park.
 
But, once again - as so many of we Veterans are reminded - I was reminded that
it is just when you think it has all come to point of rest that the worst
flash-back will visit upon you.
 
I choose to believe that flash-backs serve a purpose.  That purpose to me is
that I live because they died and that I owe them a debt.  That payment of that
debt is to live as well as I can, experience as much as I can, enjoy our
national freedoms, continue to preserve those freedoms, and to experience as
much in life for those who died as I can – because they did not live to do
these things.
 
I experience for me…  and for them.
 
I hope that each of you had a great Fourth of July, and for each Veteran, I hope
that you found some time of family happiness, peace and joy. 
 
For those Veterans with the ghosts of war upon them, I hope that your moments of
flash-back or despair were few and that you gained some bits of happiness from
observing this celebration of our nation’s birthday and our Active Duty and
Veterans’ service and sacrifices that have kept us free. 
 
I hope that each of are able to shake off some of the horrors of the flash-backs
and try to live a little bit for those who did not make it home with us.
 
For those family members whose Veteran shows such despair, shakes, moroseness,
flash-backs, tears or other signs of their ghosts of war, I hope that you find
it an honor to your nation to stand by that Veteran and help him or her through
their flash-back.  All it takes is your understanding, your belief in that
Veteran, and the willingness to find the way that your Veteran can hear and feel
your support.
 
“I love you.  I understand.  I believe in you.  This will pass.”  Put
your hand in theirs, your shoulder against theirs, your arm around them, give
them your support in the moment.  Those are small words, small gifts, with
incredibly powerful healing effect.  Offer them with love and respect. 
 
Your Veteran, male or female, has lost more and carries more than you can ever
imagine.
 
They did their service in the hope that you would never have to carry such
horror within your soul,
that you would remain free, that you would have an opportunity to know
happiness…
 
That our nation would remain a Constitutional government of the People, by the
People, and for the People; a nation of the free and the brave.

A punch in the gut to BP relief recipients?

Two national organizations working to reform the U.S. income tax system are
calling on President Obama to order the Internal Revenue Service to forgo taxes
on relief payments by British Petroleum to victims of the Gulf oil spill.

  The groups calling for IRS relief for the oil spill victims are the National
Fair Tax Campaign and the Online Tax Revolt campaign. Ken Hoagland with the NFTC
says taxing these relief payments is like kicking someone who has just been hit
by a truck.

Hoagland argues that "the magnitude of this disaster is so large and the effect
on people's lives across the Gulf Coast is so great and on their economies, we
need to make an exception to IRS rules just as we did after 9/11, belatedly

and too late -- should not be subject to taxation by the IRS as is the plan
today."

The tax reform advocate is hopeful that President Obama puts politics and
ideology aside, and suggests the president make a simple phone call to the IRS
to say the victims of the oil spill have suffered enough and should not have to
endure the additional burden of paying taxes on their BP relief checks.

June 28--A Prince William plan to improve the aesthetics and money-making
potential of homes and businesses along the Potomac River is complex enough on
its own.
But factor in the after-affects of military base closings and the future of this
Potomac Communities Revitalization dream becomes even hazier.


The Base Realignment and Closure announcement of 2005 means 19,300 new jobs will
go to Fort Belvoir and 2,700 to Quantico, according to figures presented to the
Board of County Supervisors at a recent meeting. In 2009, the county conducted a
Sandwich Study--so named because of the location of Prince William to the two
bases.
"Prince William County is sandwiched right in between Fort Belvoir and the
Marine base in Quantico," said David Moss, with the planning office.
The influx of jobs to the bases will bring traffic woes to the county, and that
means certain road widening projects already in the planning stages--to include
the U.S. 1 widening as envisioned in the Potomac Communities Revitalization
study--could demand additional consideration. For example, U.S. 1 should be
widened to six lanes by 2030, Moss said, speaking of existing county goals for
the road.
"But with BRAC, the section of Route 1 in front of Marumsco could need to be
eight to 10 lanes wide," he said, and some portions of the road could eventually
require an expansion to 12 lanes.
The scenario creates an interesting option for commuters.
"As we widen, we actually make it more attractive than [Interstate] 95," said
Pat Thomas, also with the planning office, "and we start sucking the cars off
the highway."
Businesses along U.S. 1, meanwhile, could be forced from the area, leading to
lost revenues for the county.
"Continuing to widen the road is not the solution because you shrink the tax
base," Thomas said.
One option to accommodate increased commuting demands could come in the form of
bus service, Moss said.
Supervisors weren't asked to make any decisions; staff still has to evaluate the
costs of all the options and present the findings to board members at a later
meeting. Staffers also have to solicit input from property owners who would be
affected by road widening plans and to draft actual recommendations that can go
to public hearing.

out this program through NASA. For the last 2 shuttle trips to the International
Space Station, NASA is offering to include digital copies of pictures of anybody
who wants to be included in the project. To sign up - minimum age is 13 but you
can probably sign up on behalf of the children. Please go to this web site for

This is a program designed to keep up childrens' interest in space exploration,
even though the shuttle program is due to cease in the next year or two. There
