We lucked out and had only light on and off rain during our walk in Marion
County today. We walked Jefferson back in 1996, but I didn't remember it at
all. We had a great walk.

June 2, 2012: For the first time Daffodil Valley Volkssport Assn. is joining
forces with the Rainier-to-Ruston (R2R) race/walk/relay. Daffodil is
sanctioning the half-marathon. So for those R2R participants doing the
half-marathon, they can now get IVV/AVA credit stamped in their books.

The half-marathon will be capped at 350 participants so if you are interested,
it would be a good idea to sign up sooner than later. There is a cost to
participating in the R2R but it does include a T-shirt, bib number, and a
shuttle from the finish to the start of the race/walk.

This is a one-way route from the town of Buckley to the town of Orting. The
route will be on the Foothills Trail which is partially paved, partially uneven,
dirt trail, and partially road shoulder. The IVV/AVA stamp will be at the
finish of the half-marathon in Orting. It is rumored that Sasquatch will even be
on the trail.

For more information go online to the Rainier-to-Ruston website.

You must pre-register! You can signup on the Rainier-to-Ruston website. The
R2R website is: www.rainiertoruston.com. For pre-registration for volksmarch
credit, sent $3 to: Carolyn Warhol, 8718 159th St. E., Puyallup, WA 98375.

We had nice weather. It was coo1, but not cold. No rain. We enjoyed the

I would like to invite everyone to come walk with us. There will be two walks.
One on trails to overlooks of the lake. The other will be around the Marina.

I would like to encourage everyone to pre-register to order the A award which is
a t-shirt with a Possum in German Hiking outfit. Click here to see the design.
http://www.walktx.org/TrottingTexasTurtles/POSSUMKINGDOM.jpg

I had asked a guy that I work with to design the German Possum. He had said he
didn't have time, but he told his teenage daughter about it at home at dinner
and she came up with the design. She is thrilled that her design will be on the
t-shirts.

There will not be t-shirts at the walk unless they are ordered ahead of time.
So click on the flyer and mail in your pre-registration.

The Texas Volkssport Reunion events were held at Fayetteville, TX on Saturday
and Sunday. They offered two events. One city walk and one country walk. We
choose to do the City Walk on Saturday. We came back on Sunday to do the
country walk.

These are the pictures from the Saturday City Walk. Fayetteville was once the
county seat of Fayette County so there is an old courthouse square. Lots of
nice homes and churches. It was an interesting walk.

Hi,

I really did not want to disturb you with this but I had no one else to
turn to. I'm in Barcelona, Spain to see my cousin who lives here. He's
critically ill and needs family support. He was diagnosed with (Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia) - a type of Blood Cancer in 2005 and had been
undergoing treatment since. The chemotherapy treatment was going fine
until last week when the doctor noticed that the disease has relapsed
and the only way he can survive is by undergoing a BMT (Bone Marrow
Transplantation). My sister whose marrow matched his has agreed to be
the donor and he shall be undergoing the transplant soon at the Sant
Joan de Déu Hospital Barcelona. The estimate for the transplant is
¤9,000. I have already spent approx. ¤6,500 towards his treatment. Since
the amount is huge, I request you to lend out a helping hand and
support me with a loan of ¤2,500. Since I don't know your financial
status at the moment, any kind of help whatsoever will be deeply
appreciated. Your help and support will give him a chance to live a
normal life once again. There is nothing called a small help when the
heart giving it is big. Any amount will be accepted with gratitude and
paid back after the surgery. Please let me know how much you can loan to
provide you with the details to get the money to me and I will pay back
  as soon as I return.

I will check my email every 30 minutes for your reply.

Thanks for your help.

For those folks planning on seeing cherry blossoms, the unusually
warm weather has the blossoms opening two weeks early this year. The
cherry trees are in bloom NOW both at the Tidal Basin in DC and in
Kenwood in Maryland.

This would be a great week to do the Kenwood Cherry Blossom seasonal walk.

Colorado by Train 2012!!

Projected dates: September 20-29, 2012 * 10 Days

A new walking adventure featuring rides on 5 vintage trains in the Rocky
Mountain state of Colorado

  dan on the trail

Dan on the trail

Ever since we included the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in our
Southwest National Parks tour back in the late 1990s, we've been fascinated
by the possibility of featuring more of Colorado's vintage train journeys.
Our recent decision to partition the Southwest National Parks trip into
shorter travel programs provides a great incentive to offer this exciting
new combination of great walks, vintage train rides, and spectacular scenic
driving through the Colorado Rockies! We start and finish in Denver and
combine no less than five vintage trains and 3 national parks in a 10 day
program that offers some of Colorado's most scenic vistas! Take a look at
the program outlined below and be sure to send in your $50 refundable Early
Bird if you'd like to join us!

Happy trails,
  Dan <http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs078/1102026478111/img/245.jpg>

Colorado by Train 2012
Featuring rides on 5 vintage trains!

Georgetown Loop Railroad: This route was completed in 1884, connecting 19th
century gold and silver boom towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume. The
"loop" covers 3 miles of narrow gauge track with an elevation gain of 640
feet, requiring trestles, cuts, loops, and provides a walking tour of the
historic Lebanon Silver Mine at the halfway point.

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad: Transport of gold and silver ore
was the original purpose for building this storied railroad in the early
1880s. Mining gave way to tourism, however, and the magnificent vistas
through which it is routed has resulted in a steady stream of visitors over
its 128 years of continuous operation. Today it continues to carry
passengers and rolling stock behind its vintage steam locomotives.

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad: Hauling silver ore from southwest
Colorado's San Juan Mountains was the reason for constructing this 64-mile
narrow gauge line in the 1880s through the spectacular mountains and valleys
of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. We board in Chama, New Mexico
and travel as high as 10,015 feet above sea level. At one point we ride on
rails fastened to a rock shelf carved from the face of a cliff. Our
destination is Antonito, Colorado.

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad: This railroad is perhaps one of the better
known vintage railroad experiences in the country! The Royal Gorge Route
Railroad grew out of a war over mining in the 1880s between the Denver & Rio
Grande Railroad and the Santa Fe Railroad. The two companies waged ongoing
litigation and armed confrontation, resulting in multiple deaths, for the
right to build and operate a railroad through this deep river gorge. The
tracks are lined in places by sheer walls over 1000 feet tall and require
rails suspended over the Arkansas River for several hundred feet. We plan to
book seats in the 1950s Vista Dome to best experience the breathtaking views
of the Royal Gorge.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway: Truly this is an unforgettable journey with
inspirational panoramas. The highest ever cog railroad (a gear "cog wheel"
meshing into a special rack type rail) in the world was built in 1891
strictly to make the spectacular views available to a wider audience. In
1893, English professor Katherine Lee Bates was so impressed by the views
that she penned the lines of what became one of our national treasures, the
song, "America the Beautiful". Due to extreme elevations (we travel from
6571 feet above sea level (FASL), up to the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,110
FASL), this experience is provided on an optional basis.

It’s me Dolores, I really don't mean to inconvenience you right now. I
made a little trip to Scotland, and misplaced my wallet that contains my
passport and credit cards. Just hearing from me like this, sounds a
little odd, but it all happened very fast. I've just been issued a
temporary passport and also my ticket, but I'm short of funds to pay for
the bills here. I've also been trying to reach my credit card company,
but from the message I just received, I'll need some verifications like
answering my home phone, and that will only happen when I'm home.
Please, can you lend me some funds to secure the bills? I'll be willing
to pay back as soon as I return.

Please respond as soon as you get this message, so I can forward my
details to send the money via western union or money gram, you can also
contact me via the hotel's desk phone. The numbers are, +447024025630
or 011447024025630

Looking forward to your response.

Carol, Ed, and I joined the East Texas Trekkers for a group walk of this YRE.
We had lovely weather. It was an enjoyable event. Lots of history. And of
course, it gave me a new county so that's a plus.

On Sunday we walked the YRE that the East Texas Trekkers host in
Natchitoches,LA. Some of the photo's are of the same things, but do to angle or
whatever it isn't too repetitious. Last year there were more Azaleas blooming
and it was cold. This year it was hot and the sun was shining. Anyway, hope you
like the pictures.

Hi All,

The walk this coming Saturday, the 7th, is a great way to become acquainted with
the county seat of Carroll County and enjoy a great buffet breakfast.

For those collecting stamps for Special Events the following information is
relevant.

The trails consist of two 5k loops, the "College Loop" and the "Hospital
Loop".  Both loops qualify for Special Events, "Hooray for Holly wood" and
"Struttin Down Main St.".  The "College Loop" qualifies for "America's
Bakeries", "Celebrating Golden Cinemas", "Walking America's Murals"and "Honoring
Law Enforcement", also.

Hope to see many of you at breakfast.  There were many very positive comments
about the breakfast and the walk when we last had a walk that started here, so
come out and enjoy.

Chuck
