I'm afraid you're wrong there - it is sporadically on cable and
satellite channel 'UKTV'.

The ABC (Australia's equivalent to the BBC) sells DVDs of it through
their ABC Shop retail arm, suggesting that it has been shown by the
ABC at some point.

> This show has not been shown in Australia and I personally think it is
hiarious. However it would probably have to be sub-titled for the majority to
understand it.

That's stretching it a bit given the amount of British programming
currently on the ABC and the general familiarity of British accents -
even regional ones - to the Australian populace. Considering that
things like Brookside weren't subtitled when it was shown in
Australia, I can't see the need to subtitle OF&H.

Jason.

My family used to speak 'the Queen's English' - or at least very proper.  When I say used to - they still do.  I think it sounds VERY pretentious...I weaned myself out of it at about 12.

My daughter speaks almost disgustingly well.  It's quite annoying, and a little worrying as I'm sure she must be a bit of an outcast at school.  I definitely have a normal voice, and a 'proper/telephone' voice.  I find that when I'm upset or angry, I slip back into speaking like a posh idiot.

I never understood why Only Fools & Horses was funny - but I accepted I was always in the minority.  I've also had to get used to all the ribbing over the years when people ask me where I was brought up and I respond "Chigwell", as you can guess the only thing anyone ever associates with that.  (It was never filmed anywhere near there by the way!)

This show has not been shown in Australia and I personally think it is hiarious. However it would probably have to be sub-titled for the majority to understand it.

I think people confuse Walthamstow/Essex with Cockney. As speaking standards on both Radio and TV have declined, it must be difficult for youngsters to learn English as they only get to hear the Queen maybe once a year.
The Queen's English is very beautiful to listen to.

Has anyone else taken a good look at the claims made on the council website. It is astonishing in that it claims to be taking precautions on main roads - Route Plan on pdf, and also Hilly Routes another pdf (which I provide below)

Here that is. http://www.walthamf orest.gov. uk/beta/hilly_ beat.pdf

Note it is encrypted which means you can't print it or edit it. But you can still read it and study it in depth and make notes. Then you could contact your local councillors to ask why it gives false information about how accurate it is. Why not also cntact the CEO Andrew Kilburn, as he seems to be on our(public) side and is very concerned about wrong-doing in the corridors of power.

You can however, download a full list of the council's Grit Bin locations. Mind you they ASK US to tell THEM when they need re-filling. Makes you wonder what on earth the highway enforcement officers - on 25-35k per annum do to earn that salary?

After the recent fiasco which proved this gritting plan WAS NOT undertaken - I personally witnessed buses skidding all over the place across Hoe Street bridge (Hill Gritting claimed by council map!), local residential roads Hurst Road,Aubrey Road,Tower Hamlets Road also are claimed to be on the Hill Gritting route!

Funny enough the Selborne Walk Mall piazza area seemed to get a truck load when none of the hilly roads got any. Is this a fault of lack of supervision or are managers' scared of the union?

I doubt if there would be room for an 'artic', the parked cars and two-way
traffic along that section of humped road. I wonder if they're thinking of
using the route via the A104 and Oak Hill to get to Hale End Road?

Not sure where it went but I was mid way through telling you about Anne Mustoe

Anyway the old girl passed away in Syria and the Telegraph group posted an

Very inspiring and as I am a keen cyclist it caught my eye.

There is a link from the Billet roundabout along the old north circular road (Wadham Rd)

Hope that makes more sense now.

I wonder how many others have noticed the impossible route description in the assorted plans?
Surprisingly it didn't get any comment from the Chair or Vice-Chair of the Transport Liasion Committee: Midge Broadley & Bob Wheatley.
Appendix B, Part 26 states: "Service Vehicle Routeing is A406, Hale End Road is the assigned route for service vehicles to the site. Swept path analysis shows service vehicles will not encounter difficulties in Hale End Road despite recent traffic-calming".

Since this particular route doesn't join up; ie there is no link between A406 & Hale End Road, just how do the artic truckloads get from the A406 into Hale End Road? Are they more likely to come off the A406 at Waterworks and use Forest Road to Hale End Road? Mind you they would have one hell of a job negotiating the pinch-point climbing the Hale End Road bridge over the A406. Perhaps council are going to remove the traffic island?
This is of essential interest to all the local community, particularly the parents of children to Thorpe Hall School.

I have had a similar complaint from my relies in West Sussex and apparently the
reason there is that they simply don't have enough money to see that the bins
are full and in fact used.

Would you consider paying a higher rate to get more things done?

Ah! those photos brought back some wonderful memories of Epping Forest but alas
I had to do some research to find Jack Hill which was ok as it stirred up my
memory.
I do recall Claypitts and Lippits hill from my bicycle racing days as we used
that pair of gradients for competition rides.

Londoners are so lucky to still have Epping Forest and such icons as Queen
Elizabeths hunting lodge and The Owl Inn to visit, is the 'Water Otter' still
there in that tank waiting to catch the unwary?

I even saw a small herd of deer crossing the A11 road, once near the Robin Hood
roundabout. It was a bit like the kangaroos we have here and just as hazarddous
so take care at night as I am sure they are still around.

And to Norma, yes we can and do often get UK TV programmes in Perth and during
the non rating period they are the only stuff worth switching on for.

The separated twins was a event that was well publiced here and over there too
it seems and quite rightly too as the medical team performed a minor miracle so
they say.

I have just had my first hard bike ride since my own surgery last october and
although not as enjoyable as riding through Epping forest it is still rural
where I live but one has to get out early to avoid the heat as it gets hot
rather quickly, Monday is going to be 40 degrees C. we are told.

Thank you John - lovely photographs, didn't recogize any of the indiviual trees in particular, I am going to transfer one of them as my desktop background.  Hope your Christmas is good, fantastic Boxing Day weather here, bright and sunny.  Am trying to decide whether or not to go for a walk!   Thanks again.

Here's another winter's tale of woe. Last Christmas & New Year the neighbouring allotments with a gate adjacent off the car park, was broken open 4 times during the centre's holiday closure period.

At that time, 2 fixed 'tin-can' cctvs in the car park were un-operable and half the car park's lights were out of order, thus making the allotments' boundary fence pitch dark.

Twelve months later that is still the status quo.

Have GLL staff done anything? Do they venture out beyond their front door except to rush to their cars and drive off home?

The town hall is less than 400 metres away in a straight line - possible because they have keys to open a gate into Chestnut Fields at the rear.

During the daytimes when the college is open, yobs visit the car park with deafening inboard sound systems (bangra music always to the fore), and if they are not giving girlfriends' driving lessons (no 'L' plates), then private driving lessons are given by the "RED" company driving lesson franchisees.
The local SNT do come and check but cannot stay for long.

Is it not time, before the site is demolished, to enforce parking restrictions to non authorised users? ie Pool & Track users & allotment holders only.

Thanks for the smile from Perth.  Hey isn't that good news about the twins!  My cousin has just sent me the latest photographs showing them going home.  Would lift even a whinger's heart, grin.  I'll forward them to you.
Life is good.  Just watched the beautiful Carol Service from Kings Cambridge.  Can you get any UK programmes?
Love, peace, health and hapiness to you and yours!   Norma.

Keith you will never beat them so why don't you just give up or move to Norfolk or Cornwall where I am informed by friends that because there is no work in those areas there are no yobs or muslims or other persons that obviously get under your skin.

Better still come to Perth where we have another sunny 36 Degrees C forecast for Christmas day, on 2nd thoughts don't come here as I do enough whinging for both of us already.

What about that Leytonstone toilet block being used as a prayer meeting place. I have prayed in front of a few WC's in my youth after a drinking session but that is rediculous.

Wishing you all a happy Christmas or whatever you are permitted to say over there now and a Healthy New Year.

As of 3pm this afternoon, these foolish mandarins in charge of the Highway's
section (Low Hall Depot) had 'authorised' some poor erks to, now maintain the
sections of packed ice pavements along Forest Road.

What ensued less than 6 hours later? Higher temperatures & rain, each long since
forecast as was the icy blasts from the eastern seaboard last Thursday.

The ice and slippery conditions had virtually disappeared by 11pm the area
around The Bell, and I would have no doubt much of the rest of the parts in the
borough getting the rain.

Time I think for one, or more than one, of the highly paid managers in Highways
also to disappear.

I trust people will put their tough questions to the panels at the earliest
community council meetings in 2010.
