This happens to certain Yahoo Groups from time to time--the
moderator just decides he/she doesn't have the time to maintain or
monitor the group and just leaves it alone, hoping it'll run itself
by the people still in it, and eventually it gets overtaken by
spam. This group was already that way when I first joined it a few
years ago, which was what led me to create my own group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pugetsoundchristiansingles
I currently have it set so that new members are automatically placed
on moderation, and once I'm convinced that a new member is a
legitimate person, I take them off of moderation. I've also given
moderator status to one other person in the group (a guy I actually
go to church with), so he can take care of the group during times
when I'm absent.
