"The Boat Bar" (a vignette and character study) -By- Richard Kenny

Brandi finished her set and yelled "Next case!" Then she climbed down
from the stage and went to the dancers' dressing room where she
changed into street clothes.
Afterwards, she met me near the bar and we went outside to do a J. A
little further on we met one of the other dancers, Rose, who was
walking towards the bar that we had just left.
"Hi, Rose."
"Hi, Brandi."
"Do you want to come with us?" asked Brandi.
"No thanks. I don't feel like wandering aimlessly."
Wandering aimlessly was my state of mind. Apparently Rose picked up
on it as we approached her. Brandi, always a good trooper, came to my
rescue.
"There's nothing wrong with wandering aimlessly," Brandi said.
"I'm aware of that, but I really want to do something else right
now," replied Rose.
"Okay. I'll see you later then."
"Later."
Rose continued on and we walked to the corner, turned into a dimly
lit residential street and lit the J.
As we were returning to the bar Brandi said to me; "You know, you're
almost normal and so am I."
"Yeah, you're right. We're almost normal," I replied.
"We're more normal than Cindy and Mark," she said.
"They have a lot of catching up to do. They call
discussions 'thinking with words.'"
"Really," she said.
A moment later we were in front of the bar.
"I'm going to the dressing room and lay down for awhile," she said.
"I'll see you later."
We went in, she cut off and went to the dressing room. I continued
walking through the bar and sat down at a table near the stage. 'I
tuned into the 'audience-voice'. I was facing the stage and there was
a dancer there. She danced before my eyes like the flames of a fire.
The peculiar motion tranced everyone in the the audince except me.
All the trancees had fixed stares.
I transacted a beer with a server.- N
