Neanderthal in a Lincoln, Innaugural Gala,
Dance Gumbo this Friday. Specs are on page bottom for the uninfirmed.
Zydeco Lesson at 8 sharp. The new format is working well. Laura Rose did a Bachata lesson last Gumbo and Wade Ownley did Salsa prior. We start the dancing 8:30-45 ish.
DJ Wolfy Jack now has a laptop, and to repeat a prior rambling, I feel like a stone age neanderthal placed in a Lincoln Continental. I can steer the beast, but what are all these cotton pickin' lights and buttons about.
For 15 years I have hauled around my Yamaha 5 CD $105 Best Buy CD changer and become romantically involved with this fine piece of equipment, but the good missus and son, have decided to enter me into the 21st century and bought me the laptop.
I bought the new Nero 9 software which my friend DJ Salsa Mike reccomended, but I found Nero too hard to figure and Windows Media Player easier to use, and now Milton is suggesting I Tunes. Any suggestions/help from my savvy technocrat friends would be appreciated. All I really need is ease of data entry and simple spreadsheets. I avoid all the dj antics of matching beats and running music together or changing the tempo just do the song as writ and allow you a 5 second break to ressucitate oneself before the next tune.
Things are in full swing for a big Tuesday January 20 event. If you don't care to go to DC and spend the nights in a 24 hour Waffle House, help us with our Triangle bash. We have a committee going and some money pledged and if you care to help out or dig the loose change out of the sofa, we can use you.
I have become aware of several different events, so I think our distinction will be in keeping something with lots of dancing of all kinds- Gumbo, Latin, World Music, et al and keeping it affordable but nice, for the classy low rollers like we are. We are considering venues at this point, hoping to have at least a 2-300 capacity up to 1000.
So far we have a dozen folks that have pledged time or money. This is something to tell the grandkids about, so come aboard for the Barack Boogaloo.
And even if you voted for the Libertarians, Republicans, or Vegetarian Zoroastrian Trotskyist Party, we are all in this together so come and party.
As to our new executive, Garrison Keillor said it so wonderfully in his Wow! America is Cool piece:
I am a major Garrisonphile
