Thank you, again, to everyone who emailed me about the problem of my
(Ethiopian) friend imprisoned in Addis. She has been released, due to
the intervention of a more powerful friend of hers. I don't yet know
what is the truth of that case but I am relieved that she is home.
I post for a different reason today.
I am completing a nonfiction manuscript about an Ethiopian foster
mother in Addis, as a way of telling the story of AIDS orphans in
Ethiopia. (Portions of the manuscript have appeared in the NYTimes
Magazine and in Good Housekeeping Magazine.)
Most of the book recounts observations I have made as an eyewitness,
but I must also include Ethiopian history I have gleaned through books.
I am not an historian nor an expert here and your 2.5 million year
history is rather intimidating.
Are any of you historians or students of history?
Would any of you be willing to look over these pages and tell me
whether I accurately have captured the successive reigns of Menelik II,
Haile Selassie, and Mengistu?
THanks and warm wishes,
