Oct 17, 2011View Source1998- At 10:06 a.m. the HFD was dispatched to the 1900 block of State St. for heavy smoke from a house. The second alarm was struck almost immediately as the arriving Hill companies encountered a major working fire in the three-story occupied row of houses made into apartments at 1933-35-37 State St . An electrical fire started on the first floor of 1933, then quickly extending thru voids to the loft gutting the entire building. Nos. 1935 and 1937 sustained heavy fire damage to the second and third floors and loft. This was quite a spectacular fire with huge column of smoke that was visible for miles. A third alarm was struck to augment heavily engaged city firemen. Fire department operations very precarious for a time. FF Connie Owens (W4) fell from the second floor to the basement in 1933 was taken to hospital shook up. FF Bob Enterline (W4) pulled her to safety. FF Pat Fuller (T3) suffered 1st degree burns to his head. Lt. Terry Rodenhaber (Sq) suffered an injured shoulder. FF Mick Shrauder (Sq) incurred a back injury. FF Dan Soulier (T1) pulled groin muscles pulling Lt. Rodenhaber and FF Dan Wolfe (T1) through a hole in the roof when they ran out of air. It took over an hour and a half to bring it under control with an overall loss of $100,000. Eight persons were left homeless. A Platoon, third alarm.
