I wont dispute that but many programs will not load a GPX file produced by another program.
Those are bugs that should be reported. If the GPX validates and a program won't read it, the reading program is broken. If a program writes GPX that won't validate, the writing program is broken. It's a clear line in the sand.
I don't want to extend this argument, but you did heavy
criticise Garmin's GDB most unfairly as it's a good format.
It's undocumented and changes between versions in such ways that Garmin's own software won't read it. That's how this started. That makes it not a good format for long-term storage or interoperability. IMO.
Finally, don't criticise the OVR format, as clearly you know very little (if any) about it. I do however recognise your knowledge of many other formats.
I intentionally said nothing about OVR as it's irrelevant.
I was just highlighting that GDB is such a mess that Garmin's own software can't even get it right and the irony that they have a reader/writer in Basecamp for a better format - that their own modern GPSes use.
