Is that time again! The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) is looking to train and develop the next generation of Latina leaders, committed to being a change agent in their communities, through our 9-day summer leadership development training program in Washington, DC.
Are you Ready for the Next Level of Leadership Training?
Featured in USA Today in 2009 as a program making the difference in the lives of young Latinas, Latinas Learning to Lead Summer Youth Program (LLL) is for college students between the ages of 17-22. LLL promotes and fosters the development of young Latina leaders through training, mentoring opportunities, access to national networks and provides tools to create greater community impact.

The program consists of session topics on effective communication and presentation skills, public policy issues affecting the Latino community, professional and leadership development topics including a Clifton StrengthsFinder session at Gallup University, financial literacy, a technology component, and more. Twenty-two fellows will be selected to participate in the program.

LATINAS LEARNING TO LEAD"After the NHLI training, I now have the confidence and the tools to engage my community to make change happen. I will build a strong and passionate team to help me educate and reach out to everybody in the community," said Aida Nieto, 2009 LLL graduate (pictured right).
LEADERSHIP TRAINING COMPONENTS
- 9-day leadership training in Washington, DC.
- Participation in NHLI’s CyberMadrina online mentoring program, and paired with an NHLI Executive Leadership Program Fellow.
- Fellows implement a leadership project in their communities that impacts at least 22 Latinas.
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and not graduating before December 2010.
- A minimum of 30 semester credits/hours by May 2010.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Between the ages of 17-22.
- Demonstrated strong leadership as indicated by on campus and community volunteer and civic engagement.
- Have a strong commitment to Latina/o issues.
COST IS FREE
With the support of our generous sponsors, NHLI covers round trip airline travel, room and board, training costs and all classroom materials necessary for the program for all participants. Students are responsible for covering their own medical and travel insurance, and any incidental expenses.
