||From Wisconsin to Verizon: Building Labor's Fightback|
||Thursday September 1, 2011|

||2011 has already witnessed revolutions and resistance sweeping the globe from the Middle East to the Midwest. In the US, there have been two pivotal fights in both the private and public sectors that have exposed the level of attacks by governments and corporations on working people, but have also shown the capacity and need of unions and workers to organize to fight the cuts. |
In Wisconsin, public sector workers and their allies fought a vicious assault on collective bargaining, health care, and benefits from the union busting Governor Scott Walker. More recently, some 45,000 members of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) returned to work without a new contract August 23 after an active, militant two-week strike that put the spotlight on corporate greed and working-class solidarity across the U.S.
In the aftermath of these two struggles, workers and activists need to assess the state of the labor movement and how to effectively build a fight back in the US. Join the DC branch of the International Socialist Organization for a discussion featuring speakers from Madison, Wisc. and the Washington Teacher’s Union; local members of the CWA have been invited to speak as well.
