Greetings M lord Myrddin, You don t say what part of the known world you are from, but I think I would suggest doing some basic 14th century tunic and trewsMessage 1 of 3 , Aug 1, 2012View SourceGreetings M'lord Myrddin,
You don't say what part of the known world you are from, but I think I would suggest doing some basic 14th century tunic and trews garb to start with so that as you become more active and the weight comes off, you won't have spent a "Kings ransom" on garb that may not be alterable. You can definitely spend some coins on some fancier trims and a really nice cloak that will still be usable even after you've reached you weight goal.
Have you given thought to some appropriate exercise that you might get involved with? Perhaps archery? You'll need some few items to get you started in a new hobby or sport...
I've found Her Ladyship Caitlin nic Raighne web pages to be especially helpful as she gives thought to how to construct garments using your actual measurements. http://www.caitlinsclothing.com/index.html The following PDF file has instructions as to how to create both male and female garments.
Just a few thoughts to get you thinking.
Hope this may help...
In service to the dream,
Lady Ute Rogge

i have been inactive in the sca for several years due to location and lack of transportation. weight has nothing to do with that part. i moved to San JoseMessage 1 of 3 , Aug 2, 2012View Sourcei have been inactive in the sca for several years due to location and lack of transportation. weight has nothing to do with that part. i moved to San Jose California. august 2011 and am finally getting things arranged so i can start getting active in the SCA again if i can get the transportation kinks worked out. that's mainly dependent of getting my powerchair working properly or replaced so i have more than a 3 mile range and getting things set up with para-transit services.
I am a large person in a power wheelchair though . due to my cronic gout and 2 dislocated knees i am unable to exercise or diet as dieting and burning body fat brings on major gout attacks.. 1 am 6'0" and 387 lbs which means standard patterns don't fit me or my body type. or the fact i am unable to stand or walk at all.. i am looking for court style clothing i can wear that don't require me to loose 200 lbs to get into. obviously tights and such are not flattering for someone my side and shape and a standard T-tunic etc gets caught in the wheels of my chair. I am looking for designs taken from painting or illustrations of someone sitting. period is mid 14th century. location is flexible as my persona is that of a traveling craftsman and merchant who travels all over Europe. the origin is 14th century welsh but there is nothing original for that particular region that i am aware of. . my peasant persona is a 4th century Welshman who's father was an armorer for the roman army who stayed behind when rome pulled out. he is the persona that i use when weaving chainmaille.
