Hey all -
I met with the land owner this weekend and have a few updates on the upcoming event. It's starting to feel cooler, so I hope everyone is as excited as I am to get out and camp!Fires and the Burn Ban
The rendezvous will be right outside of Sisterdale, TX. The area has been receiving a tremendous amount of rain (4 1/2" just this past weekend) and at this point is pretty saturated. I don't have the final word yet, but the land owner will be talking to the fire chief this week (he's a firefighter himself) about seeing about a "cooking fires" exemption for this event.
Basically, the idea will be that we can have small cooking fires with the caveats that:
1) anyone with a fire will also have a bucket of water handy
2) the fire must be watched at all times
3) the fire must be extinguished at night
I should be hearing back from him by the end of this week with the final ruling. I will send out another update at that time.Shooting
I heard from Bulldog that there were some rumors swirling that there
would not be any shooting at this event, due to the fire danger. As
those who know me can imagine, we couldn't possibly do much of anything
that involves me and doesn't involve a lot of guns, so we are definitely shooting at the Fall TAB.
have a couple of different scenarios planned depending on the final
weather leading up to the event, so don't leave your guns at home.
I also heard a rumor or two about flashlights, but per TAB rules, only candle lanterns will be allowed for nocturnal lighting (except in the case of an emergency). FYI, I've also posted the TAB rules here, if anyone has any questions - http://www.buckskinning.org/groups_tab_rules.htm
Work weekend (day?) will be on Sunday, October 23 and anyone who wants to come out and help get things ready is welcome to set-up their camp then as well. Events
I have a few folks lined up for events, but could use a few more. If you are interesting in running an event, please let me know! I'll provide all of the required torture devices and assorted documentation. Also - don't forget that we'll be having a primitive fishing contest as well
, so make sure to bring your period tackle.
If you are planning on bringing out some kids (yours, grandkids, random street urchins, etc), please let me know ASAP so that Otter Woman (Melissa) knows to bring out enough craft stuff and the rest of it for each child. One of the events will be a pumpkin carving (or decorating, if they are real little - like Josiah), so if your kid is going to partake, please bring out a "carvin" pumpkin as well. She'll be dutch oven roasting the seeds, too!
I will be out at the event starting on Thursday
, so anyone is welcome to come out and join me. It would be nice if you did, too as the rest of the Laster Clan won't be coming out until Saturday morning and you don't want to hear me crying in the night because I am all sad and lonely . . . :)
Let me know if you have any questions - I look forward to seeing you out there!
