Hey Austin salseros!
I'm a first year UT grad student new to Austin and a HUGE fan of salsa!! I went to undergrad in Chicago and the salsa scene there was wonderful ... so I was quite amazed (and thrilled!) to see such a big crowd at the salsa festival last night at the Union. :)
I have a couple quick questions for you local experts ... I went to the cityguide link and saw a list of all the places to hit in Austin for salsa nights, but which ones are the most highly recommended? (good music, best dancing scene, primarily salsa tunes and NOT reggaeton or random hip-hop songs, etc.) I kept hearing things about Copa last night, and I heard Oasis is beautiful but, according to the website, the Brew only plays there during the summer, so ... does that mean it kind of dies down during the rest of the year? I also heard Speakeasy is pretty good as well. Which ones do you guys think are worth checking out?
Thanks a bunch and hope to be seeing some of you very soon! :)
P.S. If you guys know of any great dance studios and/or instructors (with reasonable prices ... remember I'm a broke grad student!), feel free to recommend those as well. :)
